Akin is the best. Based on Yelp reviews and elsewhere, we started our search for a new bed at his…read morestore. He has a wide selection of mattresses and frames in the store, at various price points. He took time to listen to us about what we were looking for and suggested starting with three different mattress brands. We spent a lot of time trying out various beds, and at the end of the day, compromised between us. I wanted something softer, my partner wanted more firm. So we settled in the middle and put in our order. Akin was very responsive and patient. He kept us in the loop about delivery and dates. When the day came, he and his assistant made the delivery, and set everything up. After sleeping on the bed few weeks, it seemed more firm than we wanted, so we gave Akin a call. He was very gracious, as always, and we agreed to test the bed for several more weeks. Ultimately, we did decide to exchange the bed and frame (which we had only seen in a catalog). Akin was great. We went back to the store and chose a bed that we thought would be better for us. Akin was wonderful and made the whole transaction seamless, and even figured out how to make a few adjustments to our order to save money. We are beyond thrilled with the bed and frame now. Akin went above and beyond to make sure we were happy sleepers. I highly recommend Mattress Barn!

My fiancé and I recently visited the Ashley Furniture location in Fairfield to purchase a bedroom…read moreset. We initially came in, found something we liked, and informed the salesperson, Jordan, that we would return the following day to complete the purchase. When we came back, our experience quickly became frustrating. Throughout the process, Jordan repeatedly attempted to upsell us on items and services we clearly stated we did not want. Every step of the purchase seemed to involve additional charges or add-ons we hadn't asked for. One specific issue involved a Stearns & Foster mattress that was displayed on the sales floor with a price of $4,000. Jordan informed us that the online price was actually $4,400, and said he would check with his supervisor about honoring the displayed price. When he returned, he told us that since we were paying cash for the furniture and financing the mattress, the manager approved an $1,800 credit, which we felt was fair. However, things continued to go downhill when we began the financing application for the mattress. Jordan initially encouraged us to apply for about $9,500 in financing, even though we had made it clear we were only financing the mattress. After we were easily approved, he then pushed us to request even more credit, which felt unnecessary and inappropriate. While waiting for the mattress financing, my fiancé asked if he could go ahead and pay for the furniture with cash. When we reviewed the receipt, we noticed multiple protection plans and additional charges added to the purchase that we never agreed to. When we questioned this, Jordan insisted that these protection plans were required with the furniture purchase. From our experience buying furniture in the past, we knew these plans are optional, not mandatory. At that point, the situation became very uncomfortable. Jordan continued to push the additional services and even began mentioning personal reasons, such as needing to support his daughter, which felt like an attempt to guilt us into accepting the extra charges so he could earn a commission. To make matters worse, another employee at the front counter who was assisting him verified our information but laughed and joked about the situation rather than helping resolve it professionally. The entire interaction felt dismissive and extremely unprofessional. Because of this experience, we chose to leave the Fairfield store without making the purchase. Fortunately, we went to another Ashley Furniture location in Concord, where we worked with Mohammed, and the experience was the complete opposite. Mohammed provided excellent customer service, clearly explained everything, confirmed that protection plans were optional, and still honored the discounts we were previously offered. In fact, he helped us receive even additional discounts, and we ultimately purchased everything we originally wanted at a lower price than Jordan was advising us of. The contrast between the two stores was shocking. The Fairfield location provided the worst customer service experience we have ever had, while the Concord location demonstrated exactly how customers should be treated. Ashley Furniture should seriously review the sales practices happening at the Fairfield store, particularly with the salesperson Jordan. Customers should never feel pressured, misled, or forced into services they did not request.

I never thought I would be writing a poor La-Z-Boy review. I always thought they were supposed to…read morebe the gold standard. However, their poor business practices are indefensible. We needed a replacement bolt (the one that connects one sectional to another). If you know our model, there is only one possible bolt that would serve this purpose and can't cost more than 10 or 20 cents. Customer service happily offered to send us the bolt... After a month or two, we reached out to the Fairfield store to see where our part was, they said we needed to pay $75 for a tech to come out and $125 for labor just to identify the part. They would ship the part later. After months of back and forth emails (16) and clear descriptions with several clear photographs from various angles and annotations to explain a quintessential piece of hardware that makes their furniture work (no ambiguity left), they still demanded a tech come out, and we cover the cost. I can afford the $200 and have moved on (I rigged up a DIY solution)... But this is a matter of principle and I won't sit silent and put up with businesses that don't have integrity. This approaches Trump-level-shit. After looping in regional and corporate level slime, it has become clear that short-term revenue from nickel and diming -- would be lifetime customers -- is all a part of the business model. I mean, meeting next quarter's forecast is so much more appealing that long-term customer retention, right? La-Z-Boy has lost our family's business. I will evangelize this lesson from the highest mount and as loud as I can to all who are willing to listen till the day I die. All for ten cents... and so Taylor Luebke can hit target this quarter.
