    LUWA Luxury Appliance Repair

When you buy an expensive appliance one of your biggest concerns is having it serviced or repaired…read moreand it's even more complicated if you live in a relatively small town Our Miele built in expresso/ coffee machine was not working- wouldn't grind the beans. One call to Miele customer service and we received an email with a link to schedule a repair technician I was on hold with Miele for maybe five minutes, I got a phone call from the service company in less than four hours and they scheduled the service for the following weekday The service tech was on time, super knowledgeable and had us up and running in an hour. LUMA, Miele's authorized repair company is a well managed company and we were extremely happy with their service.

On the 27th of June we had a service technician out because our MIELE dishwasher had died. Turned…read moreout it was the main board, and he didn't have the part, so we needed to order it. The part came in and on July 16, the technician came out to install it. Everything was going well until I happened to mention that the standing water in the dishwasher from when it died mid cycle, had caused a foul smell, and that after mopping it all out, I had wiped the inside of the dishwasher out with bleach water after removing the filters, as well as putting a tiny bit in the drain. Once I mentioned this I was berated by the technician until I was literally in tears. I have never been made to feel so stupid in my life. Obviously I didn't realize it was such a mistake and one that certainly won't be repeated, but I was told that I was poisoning my family, I was told that there was no way to fix it, that it was going to be in the machine forever no matter what I did, I was told repeatedly that he'd never heard of ANYONE putting BLEACH in their dishwasher, only baking soda or vinegar, and that he couldn't guarantee that I hadn't ruined it. He also demanded to know if I had put bleach in my steam oven (excuse me???) and told me that he now HAD to "report" that I had used bleach on the inside of my dishwasher "because I told him about it" as if I was being reported for a crime. Then after all of this mistreatment, I was expected to cough up over $300 for the visit. I get that it may not have been the best choice. But I have to wonder if this technician never makes mistakes in his life, and if he does, if he expects to be berated by complete strangers in his own home, like I was berated during this service visit. How would he feel if it someone had done the same to his wife? Chlorine takes no more than 5 days to dissipate from standing water. This tiny amount that I used was weeks ago and long gone, especially after the 2 empty cycles we ran after he left. Given that we have chlorine in our drinking water, and that we use chemical detergents to clean our dishes in the machine, I am hardly "poisoning my family", and I hardly think this simple error deserved the level of berating I received today. I have to wonder if he treats all his customers this way when they make a mistake with their appliances? I have reached out to the company about this experience twice now and have been completely ignored. We will not be using Luwa again. Not a happy customer.

Tuesday evening our refrigerator died. We called Metropolitan Appliance Wednesday morning,…read moredescribed the refrigerator we wanted. They had several that met our criteria in stock--though it turned out only one would fit. Our salesman, Kevin was very patient, and ultimately we said let's do it. For a some extra fee he was able to arrange next day service. The two installers who arrived today, William and Anthony were amazing. They measured carefully to ensure that the refrigerator would fit before they unboxed the refrigerator. They were gracious and efficient and even suggested a way we could solve a problem with a drawer really close to the refrigerator. This was not our first exprerience at Metropolitan Appliance, and it won't be the last. The professionalism of both the sales staff and the installers was outstanding.

I can obviously only speak to my personal experience, but this is the second time I've made…read morepurchases from Metropolitan Appliance, and if I need appliances again this will be my first and likely only stop. For the appliances I was looking for, they were exactly the same price as the largest retailers were advertising. I can't speak to a comparison of their install prices, but the dishwasher delivery/install/haul-away cost was well worth it. The showroom in SoDo is clean, uncrowded, and staffed with knowledgeable people who are ready to help you. I worked with Kevin, who was not pushy at all, and generally was happy to just talk about what they had to offer in my price range. The big key for me is the service, especially after the purchase. I've had pretty poor experiences from the larger retailers who subcontract out the delivery/install. Metropolitan Appliance handles this portion of the experience only with in-house employees. This is a huge plus for me, especially if there are issues. And for someone who lives in an older home, there are ALWAYS issues. In my case, the range was perfect, but the dishwasher was not. What I ordered wouldn't quite work in my space. I was able to speak the technician about what the issue was, he noted his advice in their system, and I worked with Kevin to find something that would work given the new information. I also had to reschedule the second delivery the day before due to a change in my work schedule, and even though it was Kevin's day off, another employee answered the phone immediately and was able to give me alternative dates. Which were only a couple of days later, not a month out. Today I was able to get the dishwasher installed. The same team showed up. Ned and Jacob were great both times they worked in our home. They were polite and genuinely good people to talk to, and seemed to enjoy their work. They took me through what they were doing in the install at my request for some future changes I had planned. They also realized early on in the day that they were going to be a bit later than the delivery window I was originally provided with. Ned reached out immediately, kept me updated, and I was able to make use of that time instead of sitting at home waiting for no reason. Long story short, despite my moderate purchases here, I felt that my business was actually appreciated. The appliances didn't cost anything more than they would have elsewhere, and the install team was courteous and upbeat, even after a long day.

During that…read morevisit, the technician showed me the failed part -- the main control panel -- and explained it would need to be replaced. After receiving their estimate, I was shocked. Appliance ER quoted me $1,935.02 to replace a part that I was able to purchase directly from Bertazzoni for $249.95. This is not a complicated repair. The control panel is a plug-and-play unit. The installation instructions are straightforward and publicly available: Turn off the breaker, unplug the unit, take a photo of the wiring, swap the panel, and reconnect. That's it. No sealed system work. No refrigerant. No special tools. No advanced labor. Yet the quote reflects nearly $1,700 in markup for a part swap that takes minutes. What's most concerning is that the technician physically showed me the panel during the diagnostic, so I was able to verify exactly what part was needed and how simple the replacement is. This felt far less like a repair estimate and far more like an attempt to take advantage of a homeowner who doesn't know they can order the part themselves. I understand companies need to make money. I do not understand a 7-8x markup on a plug-in component with minimal labor. If you use Appliance ER, make sure you price the part yourself before approving any work. It may save you thousands.
