I've been having episodes of debilitating and extreme double vision and dizziness for four years…read morenow. For the last two years, my regular neurologist has been refusing to address my issue, saying I need to see a neuro-ophthalmologist first. I waited over 18 months to see another (more qualified) doctor, but I couldn't get an appointment. Six months later I was told about Dr. Grand by a colleague of his. I was able to see him quite quickly because of a cancellation (the only reason I'd give him one star--it was the only thing that went well). When I arrived, a nurse, assistant, or tech saw me first. She gave me a tracking exam; it was quite thorough based on other exams I've had. It probably lasted 45 seconds or so, when my other exams only lasted 10 or 15 seconds. After that exam, Dr. Grand appeared. He asked me what my issues were. I told him I was having double vision and dizziness. That's all I ever had a chance to say about my symptoms. He cut in and started looking at my chart; he looked for about 30 seconds, then said he didn't have any of my MRI images. I told him they were supposed to have been included when my doctor sent over my medical records, and I was going to offer to get them to him. He cut in again and looked around in his system for a few more seconds, saying they could be there, but he may not be looking in the right place. He shrugged it off and said he did have the MRI written report, which he read (all of this took about 1.5 minutes). He pointed out my (nearly) normal results, including the eyes themselves. He tested my depth perception, which took about five seconds. Then he examined my eyes with the prism. He took the longest there, but only because he was interested in the corneal surgery I'd had about 35 years ago. The scars from it are very noticeable, and he was fascinated by them. We talked about the four procedures I had had on my corneas. This exam (including our conversation) took about five minutes. He stopped examining my eyes, and we talked about having prisms in my glasses (I already have them). He told me to keep them and to talk to my regular ophthalmologist about it. This conversation took about one minute. Then he told me that my eyes looked and were functioning normally, so he couldn't help me. He got up and left! This declaration took about 10 seconds. In the end, I spent less than 9 minutes in Dr. Grand's company. I've waited two years for this, and he forgot about the NEURO part of his specialty. I never even got to tell him the history of my condition. I didn't get to tell him any specifics of my episodes. He didn't know how severe my symptoms are because I wasn't having trouble while I was in his office (I had one later in the day) and he didn't ask or even let me talk. He is totally incompetent and does not know how to communicate. I filed a grievance against him with my insurance company.

I wanted a doctor who didn't act like I was a part moving down an assembly line and I found that with Dr. Serdahl and his staff. Dr. Serdahl put me at ease immediately. He was the only one of 3 eye surgeons I have seen who explained that I had Fuch's Dystrophy and why it could cause complications. Surgery was pain and anxiety free. I was not irritated at the staff; I was irritated with the situation and disappointed. I also asked if they would check again to see if my insurance didn't cover it. Barnett came running down the hall accusing me of cussing out his staff. I was blindsided. Didn't see it coming. My words were not directed toward the staff. Barnett told his staff to cancel my surgery. I might add, I haven't been able to see well for 2 years. I was diagnosed back in April. I was also disappointed the surgery wouldn't be for 6 months. Depressed. It was a momentary reaction on my part, and I had no ill-will toward the staff. I tried to explain, but I couldn't. He yelled, calling me a liar! She said," I watched you, heard you, and you didn't do anything wrong." She comforted me and was shocked at Barnett's behavior toward me. I still cry and get stomach aches over the event. I tried to apologize, but I wasn't allowed. Instead, I was called a liar and refused surgery and help. There should be a list of rules on his lobby wall: 1. No having a bad day 2. No irritation, depression, or questioning about insurance allowed. 3. No foul language allowed, not even to yourself. 4. No comments allowed 5. Must stay quiet and obey 6. No speaking 7. Sit down, wait, be treated without a word 8. Check out quietly with nothing said about money owed. 9. No questions...just pay 10. Smile, be cheerful, leaving any trials you're having outside the door. Do not bring them into this office. 11. No depression, irritation, frustration, profanity allowed! If you see Barnett, he'll be nice and apparently he will do a good job. He wasn't to me. If you ask him about this, he'll continue to call me a liar. Make sure nobody close to you died the day before you see Barnett...a husband, a child, a good friend...which might affect your state of mind and heart and being in a sad, depressed or frustrated way.
