I called my insurance Customer Service number and explained that I was having a problem with my eye. They gave me the name of this group and I called and made an appointment. I clearly explained my concern to the individual that took my call. If my case was not in their field of expertise, that was the moment to tell me. I had a 10:10 am appointment. At 11:15, one hour and 5 minutes past my appointment I was taken to a room to get my eyes dialated and go over my symptoms. I was told to wait at another area. At 11:50 I was called to the exam room. Dr. Huang came in. She seemed mortified, that she was wasting her time with me. She said in no uncertain terms that she is a retina specialist, meaning she didn't see why I was there. After a two minute conversation, she walked out of the room. That was it. No thank you for waiting so long, no nice to meet you, nothing, she walked out before I had a chance to ask her some basic questions. The nurse stayed with me and gave me instructions to treat myself at home. She was very nice. Everyone but the doctor was nice. I had explained my situation to my insurance rep. I had explained it to the person that made the appoitnment. Yet I felt like the doctor thought it was beneath her to treat me. Yet I am sure they will bill my insurance. read more

Not the best way to start off the day being irritated. The staff here need to work on their people skills in being cordial. As well as informing their patients in what to expect for their appt. BEFORE the actual appt. it self!! I've been here 3 times & I was never informed of my eyes needing to be dilated both my initial appt. & today my 3mo. I actually asked myself for the procedure day to ensure if I needed a driver. Considering that I could barely see as I drove away from my 1st appt. Now here I am for my follow-up appt. & they inform me when they're taking me back to their 2nd waiting area. If I knew what to expect I would've made better arrangements in either scheduling not during the brightest time of the day and/or getting a driver. Now I need to slowly drive myself to work in bright glaring sun! Additionally, I asked when is the best time to see the Dr. w/o the longest wait. So I sched. at 7:45am; so tell me why do I see the Dr. just now coming to see his patients at 8:14am?! He finally arrived for my appt. at 8:30am (45 min later) & it took 2 minutes. Ridiculous!! Our time is just as precious as yours! Then upon checking out there were 4 people at the front desk. The person who checks I wanted to pay my balance w/ my HSA. The girl that was checking me out didn't know what my balance was; guess billing is done at another location. So another personal the front desk calls & finally talks to the billing dept. to get my balance & then asks me "Do you want to put a $150 deposit down?" What?! So I inquire what hat was & read more

I've seen Dr. Tsai and Dr. Pearlman. I had a successful eye surgery. It will take several months to fully restore my vision. My only complaint is the long wait. It can take more than an hour to be seen by the doctors. read more

I have been going to Retinal Consultants since I was in elementary school and I am now in my 40's! I take the 6 to 8 hour drive from northern California to Sacramento for regular check ups. The staff have always been very professional and kind. The doctors are the experts in their field. They have saved the vision in my left eye and are monitoring my right eye for any changes. read more

Dr. Reed seems very sincere; some assistants act bored or disinterested. If you don't like to help people, go work with a computer somewhere. Finally, the website used to provide passwords and billing is truly Third World. Pathetic, locks you out despite proper password, forces you to call an outsourced number where they can't speak any English. Need to do better on billing side of things. Dr. Reed=GREAT! After two bad appointments, I am looking for a new retinal specialist. The receptionist is rude. The girl doing the initial vision tests would rather be somewhere else. The girl who gave me a dye injection must have been new, because she left a large bruise on me. And the final straw was that after an eye injection Dr Reed left the room without setting the reclined chair back up, or even handing me a tissue for my dripping eye. I'm over 60 and had to maneuver my way out of the reclined chair! Very Rude! read more

The doctors and staff are fabulous. They take the time to explain everything and are more than happy to answer all your questions. One person on the staff in particular stands out. Savanna went out of her way to make sure my husband understood the importance of following the doctors instructions. We really appreciated her caring and kind manner. Why make a scheduled appointment when they make you wait over 30 minutes? The lady up front has no customer service skills. She is one of the most rude people I've ever come across. Not just to me but I'm all of her conversation. It is a terrible experience here. read more

Shame on Doctors who overbook and have disregard for a patient's time. It does not matter how good Dr Tsai is, it is inexcusable to have a patient wait two hours and then spend 6 minutes with them. This has happened twice in two weeks. Find another practice. read more

Dr Margaret A. Chang is one of the retinal consultants at the Greenback location. I have know her for about 8 years now! Ever since coming to her, she has always been such an amazing doctor! She is super respectful, sweet, caring and the list goes on! Dr Margaret A. Chang was the one that figured out the problem I had with my eye. She will give you advice that works best for you and not for her. I feel so comfortable around her and I trust her so much! We ate truly blessed to have found a great doctor like Margaret A. I have a procedure upcoming this week and I just found out that a pre-auth is needed. I contacted the Surgery Center for Retinal Consultants and was patched through to Shaylynn in the pre-auth dept. She assured us that all was in order, which gave us much peace of mind. Her professionalism, attention to detail along with the most pleasant personality made the whole experience very enjoyable. Dr Wendell is absolutely amazing. They have recently remodeled the office. The staff is very friendly and for those that have an eye condition the care and compassion administered by the staff is outstanding. Highly recommend this office. read more

Retinal Consulting is not a medical office but a retail business selling anti-VEGF shots with rude and incompetent technicians and bored doctors who don't even know their patient's names. They give you little or no information and just expect you to get your shot and get out. The Sacramento location is the worst by far. For my second shot the technician didn't bother to give me enough anesthesia so I felt the intense pain of the needle going into my eye! It caused me to flinch and I had increased eye pain, headaches and visual distortion for weeks after that, worse than when I first started the treatment. Because of it I decided to stop the shots and also because the uncaring doctor said they wouldn't help anymore anyway after the first one. The people working here have no caring or compassion for people who are facing vision loss, possibly permanently. Unfortunately in this area the only other option is UC Davis which is a teaching hospital, so you could end up with an intern. In addition the first RC doctor was sexually harassing me by leaning on me (his arm was on the back of the chair pressed against my shoulder) and repeatedly telling the technician to leave the room so he could be alone with me. I switched to another doctor right away and when I complained about it they blew it off because again this is not a medical office but a business to sell anti-VEGF shots. They don't allow anyone to accompany us to our appts probably because they don't want witnesses to the dreadful treatment we receive here If you feel like you're on an assembly line at Retinal Consulting it's not your imagination. read more

The eye doctor at Kaiser referred me to Dr, Tiny Tsai, a retinal specialist, because when I went to have a cataract removed they discovered that there was something else wrong with that eye. Dr. Tsai diagnosed the condition as the wet kind of macular degeneration and started his treatments about 6 months ago, and prescribed a particular kind of medication to be taken daily. Today when I saw him I was told that things are much improved and all I need to do is continue taking the medication and see him again in a month or two. The treatments he gave me before were a bit painful, but well worth the small amount of discomfort! I consider Dr. Tsai to be a miracle worker.
