Eric, was very nice and understanding. Took my tacoma in for weird noise, worried it was the transmission. After diagnosing they determined it wasn't the transmission but the front left bearing. They fixed the bearing and the noise went away. These guys really know what they're doing and won't rob you. Another shop would've probably sold me a new transmission. read more

July 4th I blew the tranny coolant line to our 2001 Chevy Lumina . Engine was covered in fluid and i had no idea what was wrong. Fearing the worst my imagination took hold. I brought my truck here a while back and they never were able to diagnose what was wrong with my truck. I took it to another mechanic and they were able to fix my transmission for a good price. I thought to give them another try, so I called beforehand and they said they could take a look at my truck the next day from being backed up. Granted I told them that I was noticing my coolant leaking.Then I bring it in the next day and they said they don't even work on coolant leaks. Their website and the other worker said they did? Had to make an appointment because they where all backed up. So I made one for next week for transmission oil change. I told the guy ahead of time that I needed my car. Went to my appointment he tells me they are backed up and my car won't be ready until tomorrow. What a waste of time bad customer service. So after taking my Infiniti QX-50 to a friends personal mechanic who narrowed down my problem to an electrical issue with the transmission, but could not thoroughly pin point the problem. Then I took my vehicle to Nissan who is the car company that produced that vehicle and after paying the diagnostic fee of $200 was told I needed a new transmission assembly that would run me a cool $7500. Which didn't sit right with me. At which point I decided to take it to Aamco Transmissions and TOTAL CAR CARE on White Ln ..which is very important to note. Jose who worked at the counter who had initially spoke with me on the phone and informed me that the initial diagnostic was at no charge and listened throughly to what my dilemma and explained that they've experienced scenarios like mine and were able to find economical solutions to them. This gave me confidence and piece of mind to have this longstanding establishment be the next and appropriate place to look at my car. Eric the technician then called me a day or two later to tell me that no codes were coming up and that unfortunately he would need to do a deeper inspection and possibly acquire assistance of a mobile tech with more diagnostic abilities, which would run me an additional $360. Being down several hundred dollars already i was starting to consider other options like possibly getting a used transmission and cutting my losses. Frustrated and concerned I made back into town just before they closed and picked up my vehicle, but before I left Eric let me know that he felt strongly that it was not the transmission slipping etc and that I should really let him look at it a little longer. I left with my vehicle, thought things through and returned Monday to have him do his thing. Im am so glad I did because he found the problem and it turned out to be a faulty tow wiring job that I had installed a while back. Eric from the beginning was sincere with me and ultimately figured out what others couldn't. I don't normally leave reviews because of my terrible punctuation and grammar (I feel) but I nearly spent thousands of dollars for a simple solution that Eric at AAMCO figured out. The first mechanic "Joe" over at Chuck's Automotive (they were awesome as well) sent me to see the mechanic at AAMCO on White Lane. They were awesome. They worked with my warranty company and made sure I was covered before starting the work. Carol who is in charge of customer service was amazing. She explained everything that was happening and what type of transmission I have (A CVT). My car was a pain because of the CVT transmissions are in constant demand because they are constantly breaking down (do not buy a car with a CVT transmission FYI). I highly recommend them. Late May this year, I called and specifically asked if their techs were trained to do transmission repair work on my 2005 Volkswagen GTI. They said they were. After they charged me a $179 non- refundable diagnostic fee, they tell me their tech is not trained to work on the transmission internal mechanical components and instead, recommend a new transmission be installed for $5K. They just told me their tech is not trained to work on this vehicle's transmission. So why in the world would I trust their unqualified tech(s) to do a transmission replacement job?!? A perfect example of an auto shop that's in the business of ripping people off and up selling. Hold on to your hard-earned money and avoid this place at all cost. You'll be glad you did. read more

Aamco offers free check engine light diagnostic, well that's what the website says...This place charges $40 for it because they're not a "participating shop". there is a reason shops offer this free service. it takes seconds and brings people into the shop. if they do nothing it cost you nothing and they might come back in the future(if you treated them well). if it comes up with a code that needs attention you have the opportunity to get them to let you check it out further for a fee and possibly a repair. the guy was not even nice about it in anyway and didn't even get up from his chair. my vehicle is under warranty and I just wanted to check it out before taking it in. if it was not under warranty this would probably be a $1500+ repair. read more

Transmission on my son's 2006 RX330 blew out about 40 miles south of Bakersfield, on way from home in SaN Diego to drop him at Berkeley. We called this store from the road and they were totally professional and helpful. After reviewing the car almost immediately and researching the availability of parts, they gave us three options and recommended car rental places. We rented a car and continued on our way, as it was a multi-day repair (not easy to quickly get parts or whole transmission for a 12-year-old car). They finished the work a day early, and accommodated us in picking up the car on our way back, well after business hours. Very thankful and appreciative. read more

NEVER GO HERE!!!! Towed my van to this location bc we thought the transmission blew out. Johnny called me back the next day and wanted to charge us 11k+. He had the audacity to offer to pay me $500 to "take the van off your hand." This seemed a bit outrageous so we decided to take the vehicle for a 2nd estimate. When my wife arrived to retrieve the vehicle, they refused release the vehicle and was extremely hostile to my wife, borderline violent. Finally, we had it tow to a mechanic a few blocks down the road (Over-time Automotive) and had everything fixed for $700. All that was needed was to change out an axle and replace the oil pan. Please do not let these people scam your hard earned money!!!!!...We highly recommend Over-time Automotive as they are a small locally operated family-run business that is honest and highly dependable!! read more

Went there to have transmission fixed only because a friend borrowed my truck and it went out in Bakersfield. I live in Pasadena so it was inconvenient. They 'fixed' it, so they said but had issues after getting it back to Pasadena so took it in to the Pasadena shop, THREE TIMES, and it still didn't run right. So when it went out completely this month, they say warranty has run out, even when I told corporate back when that it was not running right. Went to Pasadena shop to gather info for lawsuit and manager there said he would call corporate to see what if anything they could do and get back to us by end of the week. Never heard back from anyone. Paid them $2,200, having it rebuilt as we speak for another $2,000.00. Would rather walk than have aamco work on my truck again. POS read more

This rating is based on customer service alone, because that convinced me to go somewhere else. Oh my word, the lady at the front desk is RUDE!!!! I called this shop and politely asked a question about their transmission diagnostic. This lady proceeded to rudely demand that I tell her, in mechanic's terms, exactly what type of diagnostic I wanted. She didn't offer me any help or indicate what the choices were. I'm not entirely ignorant when it comes to cars, but I certainly don't know the specific types of tests they run. After she asked demandingly about 10 times, I confessed I didn't know what type. Then, smugly, she says they offer a free test but that my problem probably isn't transmission, but come by anyway. Huh? I thought your job was getting clients for your business? My check engine light came on about two minutes before my car pretty much ground to a halt. Assuming that it was a transmission problem, I brought it to AAMCO. They ran a diagnostic on it and it was informed that the problem was not transmission related, which means that they would be unable to help me. The owner gave me the diagnostic code of the problem my car had and did not charge for the diagnostic. Although I did not have any service done here, the staff was very nice and helpful. read more

HUGE RIPOFF They do not do a proper diagnosis. They do a full rebuild when not nessasary. They left a hose disconected, and then told me to go somewhere else to have the resulting check engine light diagnosed. They did not put all the fasteners back on the car, leaving sheetmetal parts loose and flapping. Dangerous. I paid thousands. HUGE RIPOFF Unsuspecting people don't even know they are paying too much.
