Headline: The Insurance Math That Makes Absolutely No Sense: A Warning to Everyone on Auto-Pay Let me tell you a story about how "trusting" your insurance company can quietly drain your bank account. If you have your insurance on auto-pay, I highly suggest you stop and look at your statements right now. It all started smoothly. On May 5, 2024, I insured my Genesis GV80. My monthly premium was a reasonable $233.67. A year later, on August 5, 2025, I added a Kia Sportage to the policy. Naturally, the premium went up to $372.34. Perfectly fair. But here is where the nightmare begins. On November 5, I sold the Genesis and cancelled its coverage. You would think my premium would drop significantly, right? Since I was on auto-pay, I didn't look closely at my next statement. When I finally checked, I was shocked: they were charging me $229.60 for just the Kia! A vehicle worth half the price of the Genesis was costing almost the exact same amount to insure. When I went to their office demanding answers, nobody could give me a logical explanation. Magically, right after my complaint, they dropped the premium to around $150. Against my better judgment, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I thought, "They are a reputable company, surely there is just a misunderstanding." So, when I bought my newest vehicle, I added it to the same policy alongside the Kia. On May 5, they charged me a combined total of $169.14. A few days later, on May 9, I sold the Kia and promptly cancelled its insurance. During the cancellation process, the agent explicitly promised me two things: 1 I would receive a refund of $169.19. 2 My monthly premium for my sole remaining vehicle would drop to a clean $59. Guess what actually happened? No refund ever arrived. Instead, they sent me a new bill for $64.28. Today, on May 29, I went back to their office to look for answers. An employee named Xavier told me something completely mind-boggling: "If we issue your refund, your policy premium will go up." Even when I said, "Fine, do it anyway," his response was, "We can't do it today." No refund. No correction of the inflated bill. Just a wall of excuses and vanishing money. This has been an absolute nightmare of deceptive practices and shifting numbers. They are quick to take your money, but when they owe you, they lock the doors and change the rules. Please, think twice before trusting this company with your vehicles. Check your bank statements, question every dollar, and protect yourself--because they certainly won't. read more

After my husband became temporarily disabled we stopped in here for a temporary handicap placard. We were able to park by the door and a AAA employee ran over and opened then held the door for us. Extremely Rude and disrespectful behavior from one of their employees who said her name was Dee or Dee Dee which I believe may not be her name and she want hearing a name tag. She's dark skinned Hispanic with curly hair and glasses. Extremely disrespectful when I asked her for help about information that was instructed to me be a AAA manager at a different branch. I had to request the manager don't remember the managers name but it started with a C. She was extremely helpful and willing to fix the issue Dee made. One of the perks in having AAA insurance is paying your car registration there to avoid the negativity and long wait at the DMV. I visited today and I felt it's starting to be like DMV. What happened to quick service. They now check you in and tell you it's a 1/2 hr wait. There were only 2 people working the counter. A lady next to me was waiting for an hour. Only to find out the previous lady who supposedly checked her in did not put her down. Luckily they put her on the top of the list. For me I wasted a 1/2 hr wait to find out paying by credit card one has to enter a PIN number. The lady assisting me wearing sports gear was not helpful at all. She kept insisting she picked credit card. What card system asks for a pin when running a payment as a credit card instead of debit. Btw they don't takes checks only cash or credit card or debit only? I really miss when they had the location in San Mateo. Staff there seemed friendlier and helpful. RWC really needs to revamp their customer service because in no time it will be a DMV with long waits and unhappy staff. read more

Around 955 am I arrived to renew my vehicle registration. I checked in at the door. The office wasn't busy. I saw one individual waiting ahead of me in the waiting area. I realized I didn't have my wallet so i informed the employee at the door I needed to get my wallet in the car. This process only took about a minute since the parking lot is immediately outside of the door. Upon my return, I sat down and noticed a woman, who I saw enter the building when I went to retrieve my wallet, go to the window. I thought how could she be next when I checked in prior to her. It didn't bother me so I didn't say anything. However, when an individual who I saw check in, sat down, and have his named called to approach the counter I was upset. This was not acceptable. I had another appointment to attended so I left but I did informed the lady at the door. To be fair she was apologetic. Maybe the process needs to be changed to be fair. I recently had Achilles repair surgery and am in a boot for walking, which is difficult to maneuver. My doctor gave me a temporary placard form with diagnosis and signature but forgot to complete the duration part. He verbally told me three months. I check in at the AAA and wait thirty mins to be called and when I get to the counter, they freak out that the duration wasn't completed and insisted that only the doctor can do it. The form was signed by the doctor and this part could have easily been filled in by anyone and they would never know. Rules are rules, but this seemed like a minor issue given that they all expire at six months anyway. Now I have to make a trip back to my doctor's office on Monday to get the date included and then back to stand in line. Maybe the check in person could check that forms are completed to their satisfaction before sending me to wait for 30 mins? read more

The ease in scheduling an appointment online, the reminder texts, the warm welcome at this branch, the quick service, the friendliness the efficiency... Let me tell you - no more dreadful thoughts of knowing you have to pull a number at DMV. AAA has my back! I scheduled an appointment a few days before for a 10 am appointment. I arrived at my appointment around 9:45 am and was able to check in. I came prepared to wait for my appointment with a book when lo and behold, I was called earlier than my appointment time. I had everything already prepared, documents completed, signed with all my i's + t's crossed, which made the appointment run so smooth (COME PREPARED YA'LL - DO NOT MAKE IT HARD FOR THESE GOD SENT ANGELS). And I was out and about by the time I was originally scheduled to be seen. Neat, right? I recommend scoping their site before you head over for any necessary supporting documents needed in order for them to process requests. Came on a Thursday lunch time. Not many people. It was quick and easy to get my IDP-- SAME DAY! Parking spaces are definitely very tight... the only negative. Otherwise you walk in and check in with the person and she directs you. They take your payment then wait at another section to get processed. Overall, it took about 20 minutes. My local AAA was torn down to put up some pretty, new condos so I had to find the next closest branch. Lo and behold, there was an unassuming one nestled off the Main Street in Redwood City. Twice I missed the entrance and when I finally turned into the right place, it was heaven from there. First, parking is super easy with lots of space all along the side of the building. Entering the building, I was faced with a surprise. It's huge inside and so clean. I barely had to wait at the DMV window before I was greeted by a cheery and very efficient woman. She took care of my problem lickety-split. It was one of the most wonderful DMV experiences I've ever had in my life. And I could see other happy people sprinkled throughout the office. I write reviews when I get extraordinary service, however, I think it's just as important to share why a company deserves praise as it is to assign them a 5 star rating. It's tax time, and I could not find my DMV registration renewal form so I could claim a vehicle license fee (VLF) on my tax return. I looked everywhere. Then, I checked the DMV's website. It is not an intuitive platform, and after trying a couple of different ways without success to access the info I needed, I decided to drive over to the local AAA office in Redwood City. Just by happenstance, one of AAA's staff, Louisa K, was walking by the front door when I entered. She asked if she could help me and led me to workstation. I explained the problems I was having getting the last piece of info I needed to start prepping my tax return. Louisa was very, very professional and helpful. Initially, she ran into the same roadblocks I had encountered when I tried to find the VLF. She went above and beyond, and although it took several attempts, she finally located the information I needed and printed it for me. Louisa expertly diagnosed the problem and got me exactly what I needed... and she did so in a friendly and sincere manner... that's great customer service. I sought out the station manager, John Hennings, and shared with him what a great job Louisa had done while helping me. In my view, a verbal "atta boy" is a good way to acknowledge superior performance, however, this time... it was important for me to put it in writing. read more

I had to come to do some DMV services and recently found out that it can be done at AAA. I had to wait about 15 minutes, but got everything I needed done fairly quickly once it was my turn. Comparing this to waiting weeks or months for an appointment at the DMV, or walking into the DMV and waiting hours in line, this was a great experience. Trish was the person who helped me remove the old car from my policy and added the car to the new owner's policy. You're probably seeing a trend here, Trish was also knowledgeable, efficient, professional and friendly. The insurance portion could have been done together, but I requested that we do it sequentially. I wanted to make sure the new owner was able to register the car in their name and also insure it before removing it from my policy. All of this was done efficiently and accurately in less than twenty minutes, If you want your auto insurance and DMV services handled by professionals in a very efficient and friendly manner, the Redwood City AAA Office should be your choice. The staff is amazing and goes above and beyond to help. I was transferring a title and there was a 20-minute wait (much shorter than the DMV!) I was happy to wait but had my two dogs in the car on a hot day. The receptionist allowed me to wait in the car with my dogs and called me when it was my turn. On April 30, 2023 I completed the online application of the DMV to renew my Parking Placard. I was led to believe that I would receive a new Parking Placard in two to four weeks. After 81 days and three frustrating trips to DMV offices, I finally went to my local AAA office and had a new Parking Placard in fifteen minutes. DMV'S Directions Won't Get You There: Finally, at approximately 2:00 am, this morning I completed the six year renewal of my Handicap Placard required by the California DMV. The adage: When all else fails, follow the directions.did not apply. The directions given at dmv.ca.gov to complete their online form to renew a permanent handicap placard will only get you part of the way. As I completed the renewal form I checked, both, the box to enter a new address and the box to receive an electronic/email certification of completing the renewal. Then, on a whim, I checked my email. After I completed the DMV'S email, only, then did I receive an acknowledgement that my application was complete, a temporary placard and their promise that I would receive a permanent placard in the mail. As others had observed, to use all capitalized letters when entering your name was essential. The DMV never mentioned that to complete their online renewal process would require responding to an email of any kind. Thus, I completed the required renewal by a three step process: 1) Endure the abuse of deluded public servants who should be terminated for cause. 2) An inordinate investment of time while subject to the abuse of DMV staff. 3) Accidently complete the process performing tasks not mentioned in any of the directions provided by the DMV. Small wonder why there is an increasing level of friction in our society that provides the illusion of benefit only to those seeking to ventilate their frustrations onto others. In a most un-American fashion, I must add. This can only serve as a good bad example of what a young man or woman does not want to become or to knuckle under too. In the end, the DMV failed to send the twice promised Parking Placard. On Friday July 22, 2023 I went to the AAA Office in Redwood City California with my DMV paperwork and, of course, my AAA Card which resulted in my leaving with a new Parking Placard, along with twenty maps for my cross country inspection tour, in fifteen minutes. I think, after waiting 81 days for the DMV to keep its promise was sufficient. Thus, allowing me to observe the comparative inefficiency of government compared to private business motivated to survive by providing actual services rather than merely demonstrating a bad attitude. read more

Don't waste your time trying to use their registration services in the rain. For two days, two appointments I tried and they REFUSED to provide an advertised service performing vehicle verification simply because it was raining a little. When I asked about the rain being an issue, I was informed they considered it unsafe as the technician would have to "walk around my car" and the parking lot was too dangerous. There was NO explanation as to how the primarily empty parking lot differed in hazardous conditions between drizzle and sunshine. They even had the audacity to direct me to a local CHP to have them perform the verification. Increased membership rates for zero quality service certainly has me questioning a 20+ year membership. Instead of going into the DMV where the lines are long, the employees are sloth animals, and where life moves by the seconds hand AAA has the ability to do this for me. Be wary, and check my photo to see how long the line is, if you're just six minutes in from when they're open, EVEN ON A WEEKDAY!!, the line will be at least 10-12 people long.
