The office by the long beach airport needs to train their personnel at dmv services to understand how to answer a question instead of trying to sell services that we already have. I would agree with Holly T on AAA's travel and roadside services, but beware of their insurance services. Here's why. We have had AAA auto insurance for 13 years. My wife was in an accident two years ago where another AAA insured driver plowed into the back of my wife at 45 miles per hour while she was stopped at a red light. She was pretty messed up. She couldn't work for 6 months, ran up 10's of thousands of dollars in doctor bills, totaled a Volvo station wagon (let's you know how hard she was hit to total a Volvo). Police report taken, stupid kid driver on cell phone cited, a no brainier right? Wrong. We were expecting to be made whole as a result of the accident. Payment for my wife's lost wages, having to buy a new car (the Volvo was paid off), payment of doctor bills, etc. AAA makes an offer to settle that would have resulted in a $30,000 loss to us. They contested every aspect of our actual losses from my wife's lost wages to the medical bills to the value of the totaled Volvo. Final result was we had to take them to court where they spent an estimated $75,000 to settle the case at 1/3 of our actual losses. Because of this experience, we no longer have insurance with AAA. Our Attorney said that insurance companies are now spending more money fighting cases than paying an obvious claim for the appropriate amount. We were not seeking a "Chateaux in France" settlement. We were seeking to be made whole of our actual monetary losses. No go. After being on the receiving end of how they treat someone when one of their insured is 100% at fault, we in good conscious could not continue to give our money to this organization. The last 3 times I've had to use AAA was terrible. I even contacted AAA via email about the poor service and was completely ignored. No reply or anything. Wait times are longer and longer, from 20 mins to 1 hour. All the subcontractors they use for their roadside service could care less about your problem and will depart as quick as they can. Their diagnoses using their hand held reader is defective each and every time. They get paid by how many call they complete and won't stay longer than they can. If you accidentally leave your interior light on over night and drain your battery, all they will do is use their little hand held battery jumper. I told them it has to be charged up for 5 mins or less and not just "jumped" and every time they tell me it's the alternator. He said we only jump a battery, and won't charge it up to make the alternator start charging your battery, I had to spend the cost of the yearly fee in gas to drive 100 miles to connect up my jumper cables to her car, waited 4 to 5 mins and it started immediately, we turn the engine off and on 4 times and it started right away. He left a teenage girl stranded in an out of the way desert road rather than put some thought into it. The only reason I use AAA is to renew my tags. The DMV is starting to look more attractive and there are lots of roadside service companies with better service. The only thing AAA roadside service is good for is a quick tow, during the day to your mechanic a mile away. But plan on waiting 20 mins to an hour for them to arrive. So sad that a once valued company has become a mediocre service. Lastly she asked if she could be towed from the Hesperia desert back to Los Angeles. He said it would cost $1,000! That's a thousand not one hundred. Good bye and save your monthly life insurance junk mail for some other sucker. read more

My breaks went out on my way back from Las Vegas with my son down Cajoun Pass (sp) scariest thing to ever happen. I called AAA not knowing what to do my son was with me freaking out I was freaking out no parking break no emergency break nothing. I got off the freeway went until my car slowed down. They were more then helpful so polite on the phone and the tow truck driver was beyond the best. I am over and over gratefully I have had this service for 12 years. And with out out doubt each time the call center is polite and kind and show the most outstanding customer service skills as well as polite and genuine trust worthy tow truck drivers. read more

I just had a horrible start to my morning. Just received a parking ticket from the city of Long Beach that was incorrectly given and to top it off I had a broken handle on my car and had left my keys inside with it running. I had locked myself out of my own car. Just my luck! Not only that today my bf had heard of his moms cancer being gone but having received a new form of cancer. I was already down and depressed and these things had to happen. These parking enforcements are horrible but not AAA, they fuck*** care about people. They're not evil , they don't give tickets, they help people. I called my triple a card and they came within less than 4 min. WOW WHAT SERVICE! I felt cared for. Like they actually wanted to help me , not take my money. I truly recommend AAA to everyone ! But the best part of all this was the employee who helped me, he was friendly , knew exactly what to do and did it in seconds. I was in my car again in no time. He was even apologetic about my situation and showed true care for a person. He did his job with no complaints a big smile and with so much kindness I felt my day would get better just because of him. I am so grateful that Anthony Yankee (employee) was the one who took care of me. I would want him to help me every time! Waited 45 mins with not many customers waiting and could have been more, I notice customers were being help 1 after another and I went back to the front desk and ask her how long is my wait? I beleive I was there 350pm and didn't get helped till 430pm and it was not busy at all. Anyways after I ask she checked her computer and told me I wasn't checked in. So I obviously was upset and she denied even seeing or checking me in. I was like you looked at my paperwork, slide my card and told me to sit and she told me it was another lady that might have been her manager, so I asked for her manager and she said she'll get her but of course she didn't and send me to a teller that help me. It would have been more professional and less of an issue if she admitted to her mistake instead of making the customer seem like an idiot. if i could give them zero stars i would. i have never had to deal with this insurance company before but after this week, i pray i will never ever have to again! first of all, if you ask a patron which day is suitable for them and they answer with friday, saturday, or sunday -- that does not mean you schedule an appointment on monday-thursday when they have school full-time and it is nearly impossible for them to meet up with that appointment. luckily, i just wanted to get things done with so i accommodated to that appointment during the week and left my car at the body shop at 8:30AM for the adjuster to view for estimates. well low and behold, they never showed up. i contacted the adjuster i was working with and he said "i'll set a note to resend an adjuster out to the body shop" but, OOPS... "they won't make it there till tomorrow." WONDERFUL. well now that the manager in charge of assisting adjusters with the estimates is not available and i asked the guy to reschedule till the next day and the nerve of this guy... he goes "what kind of business is that?!" with an attitude... really? well excuse me, what kind of business are you to set appointments and not follow through with it? and by this time, he's making threats that he isn't going to pay for my rental because i want to reschedule to wednesday which is more convenient for me and the owner who will be there in person to check the estimates with the adjuster. what kind of "professional businessman" THREATENS a patron to not cover for a rental when it was HIS FAULT for not following through with his appointment? all in all, the worse claim adjuster ever. and by the far, the worse branch. it's an honor for me to report you guys to the california department of insurance. read more

Deceptive about the impact of canceling the policy early. If you buy from AAA, believe nothing that isn't written down clearly in a formal legal contract. 0 stars!! Hands down the worst customer service! My daughter was involved in an accident with a person insured with this company. Since it was the fault of the woman who was insured with AAA, they accepted liability. When I went to the body shop that AAA recommended in my area to drop off my daughters car, I then went to the rental car place of their choice to get a replacement for the week, which took 2hrs. I received a phone call from the AAA representative assigned to the claim, Belinda Hardy. She informed me that they would be replacing the bumper on my daughters car. I said ok, and what about the giant dent above the bumper? She told me that damage was not part of the accident according to her "investigation". I said, what investigation? No one had come out to see my daughters car prior to accepting liability for the accident. She told me since I wasn't there that I didn't see what happened and that she determined the damage according to her measurements on her insured car to that on my daughters, and with quite an attitude. I asked for her supervisor and she told me that there was no one above her and that if I didn't agree that I should take her insured to court. Wow, really? Not only are they not taking care of the damage directly caused by the accident, but they are not taking care of the person that they are insuring. Horrible! I have since filed a police report to get a subpoena for the video surveillance at the gas station where the accident occurred and will indeed take their insured to court to prove the damage was a result of this accident. Shame on this woman at AAA and her supervisor Cathy Perry for not handling business! read more

So I was in a car accident and the person at fault who hit me has AAA as her insured. She was at complete fault and I've been dealing with AAA claims Representatives. I'm revieview this location only cause they share the same 562 area code. However, I work 2 jobs and have school full time. Never have I ever been treated so rudely by a representative until today! And the main claims department woman acts like she's been disturbed. I've worked for customer service for over 2 years and always treated and spoke to people with proper respect. I was the one hit and the adjuster spoke to me like I personally did something to them. So just a word of advise, if someone that causes an accident and has AAA be aware to feel bad for something you didn't cause! I have AAA for roadside assistance and the people in the Huntington beach and Costa mesa area are very nice people. read more

This is my local Auto Club, but my review will apply to the Auto Club of Southern California (ACSC) in general. When most people think of AAA, they think of one of two things: roadside service, or discounts on hotel/travel/restaurants etc. But AAA is much more than that! Something I take advantage of all the time is free maps. Go to any AAA office, show your card, and you can get free maps of anywhere you want to go. Say you're doing a road trip from LA to Portland, as I did last year. I went to my AAA office, and got the following stash: CA map, OR-WA map, Portland city map, CA tourbook (includes hotel listings, etc.), OR-WA tourbook, and a Northern Califoria wine map (as I hit Napa-Sonoma on the way back). AAA also offers a full suite of insurance. I've been very happy with my AAA auto insurance for many years, after sketchy experiences with other auto insurance companies prior to that. When I had an accident, everything was taken care of smoothly and efficiently. In the past I've also had their renter's insurance, which was very reasonable. Another AAA service that few people take advantage of is their travel agency. Now with the internet it's so easy to make your own travel arrangements, but there are times when you might want some expert assistance or advice. AAA travel agency is free to members and is really great for vacation planning, not to mention that they have all kinds of special deals on travel packages, etc. If you like road trips, they have lots of pre-planned road trip ideas (Route 66, etc.), complete with the above-mentioned maps. (FREE!) And you can also get your passport here, as well as traveler's cheques, etc. In addition to roadside assistance, AAA also offers other automotive-related services, such as car buying research, etc. The roadside service is indispensable for all the times you run out of gas, break down, or simply lock your keys in your car (doh! Did this 2 weeks ago!). They also have some DMV services in the office; I've never used these, but I am pretty sure you can take care of some basic DMV needs (license/registration renewal) here at the AAA office instead of going to the DMV. Last, but not least, there is a good reason to be a member of the Auto Club of SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA as opposed to anywhere else in the country, and that reason is the magazine Westways, which is mailed to you free with membership. This is a really good magazine, full of interesting SoCal restaurant reviews, road trip ideas and travel articles, and automotive information (reviews of new cars, etc., and a rundown of any changes in California automotive laws). If you moved here and still have your AAA membership in another state or in NorCal, change it to ACSC immediately! My dad lives in Arizona but maintains is AAA membership here so he can still get Westways. Oh yeah, and you know they offer a lot of discounts! Hotels, rental cars, dining, entertainment, etc. But you knew that. When you stop to think about it, it's really funny that we belong to an automotive "club." It implies that we are car hobbyists or something. Actually, that's exactly how ACSC started out. Did you know that ACSC is older than AAA? The Southern California auto club has a long history, going back to 1900, preceding its affiliation with the national AAA. SoCal has always been home to a lot of car drivers, so it fits that we have this century-long obsession with cars, roads, highways, traffic, etc. If you drive a car, you need roads, you need maps, you need travel info, you need insurance and safety precautions, and so it goes from there. Makes sense. The ACSC did a lot for California in its early days in terms of improving roads, creating maps, and creating uniform signage throughout the state. Nowdays a lot of new cars come with free roadside assistance from the dealer. (For some info specific to this location in Long Beach, it can get a little busy, but for the most part I've found the service to be fine, including at the reception desk, the travel agency, and the insurance department. I wasn't looking forward to dealing with the ordeal that is the DMV without having an appointment, and the soonest I could get one would be in 3 weeks. I couldn't chance riding around without a registration that long. Thank God for AAA. I went to the the office and $19 and 19 minutes later I had a replacement registration card. had a 36 year honor membership, than it was reduced to 1 year by a clerical error (there fault) and going up the management train there was nothing they could do much later they cancel my insurance on my truck because it has a ladder rack, the woman on the phone told me that the ladder rack was conclusive proof that I was a Mexican Gardner and they wont insure Mexican Gardner's, even though i am Anglo their was no gardening equipment I am handicapped their was a handicapped plate on the vehicle and there was driven less than 500mi a year on it my guess is actually the handicapped plate is the real reason (but that would break the Americans with disability's act laws so they come up with the ladder rack, by the way I ask if I took it off would it have any effect auto club said no because now they know about my secret Mexican gardening truck so the will never insure it no matter what i do (100% clean dmv record) by the way --I swearer this pure insanity is true the auto club has turned into an autocratic nightmare of bean counters with secret agendas and illegal and immoral backroom policy's 36 years and I have witnessed them go from great to absolutely horrible read more

Technically, This is for the LESS than stellar service, and the attitude I got from the customer service agent AND Locksmith who took my call. Trust me, when they call me for the customer service survey, I will sock it to them again. Here's the back story (so you understand my immense anger)... I called yesterday after 5 pm 4/18/12, and after renewing my Premier Membership that had lapsed, I couldn't find a hardware store at lunchtime that had a blank key to remake a broken key (also a spare key, made from a blank) to my 99 Land Rover Discovery. I was excited to finally get this taken care of. When the customer service agent came back on the phone, she told me it was going to be $200 plus, that AAA would cover the first $65 of it. I tried to explain to her that my key snapped in two because of my fault, that my car key was a spare that another AAA locksmith had made for me when I had to have the key extracted from the ignition. She argued with me, I said I wasn't paying $200 for a key to be made. She got the locksmith on the phone, and he tried to argue with me too, saying the key broke because....blah blah blah. I told him I paid about $200 before to have my key extracted from the ignition, AND a new key made from the broken pieces, and that price was justifiable. Bottom line: AIN'T PAYIN $200 FOR A DAMN KEY that isn't a Land Rover Duplicate. I hung up and immediately called a local locksmith that came, and the most expensive thing I had to pay was $65 because it was afterhours. He came right to my car parked on the street, made my key in less than 10 minutes, no fuss, no griping, and he saved the day. He didn't try to gouge me. AAA Customer Service Skills: 1 (and that's being polite) AAA value for your dollar: 2 (never hurts to have an ace in your pocket, but I'm seriously upset with AAA right now, and would not recommend anything over standard membership. There's a reason I paid $110 for my Premium, and that's not to have snotty conversation with some customer service agent) Overall Grade: D- note: It doesn't matter how well you try to explain the situation, once they've got an idea in their head, they stick with it, and there's no turning back...be warned. read more

So my Mom and I get off the Carnival Paradise in Long Beach and go to her car and turn the car on and nothing. We ask a couple of people if they have jump cables, no such luck. We go down to the toll booth and ask if they have anything, no such luck. On our way back we spot a AAA truck.. actually an angel.. Tino was his name. He came over and told us that he had another call and for us to call in and he will be right back. As soon as we were off the phone was there. He checked everything and jumped us. This Auto Insurance company should change their name to DDD; Delay, Deny & Defend. That's the tactic car insurance companies are taking if one of their insured cars hits you. They never return your calls, so don't bother leaving messages. Just press zero. Or better yet, call your lawyer and have them start making the calls for you. My best advice to everyone who is a safe driver, is to install at least a couple of dash cameras in their vehicle. -To protect yourself from insurance companies and also the police. -To protect yourself from the other driver changing their story. -To protect yourself against scams. -To speed up the process of your claim and increase your chances of winning it. Police reports don't work unless the cop was present and witnessed the incident. This is why they are usually not used in court. Police reports are not evidence. You have the right to record in public places, so don't let others tell you otherwise. read more

I came in to pay for my vehicle's registration. I checked in with the receptionist and she sent me to the end of the room to stand in a line. Well, there were about 20+ other people waiting too. I stood in that line for close to an hour because they only had 2 or 3 people working. I used to work to AAA, so I do understand that they can get very busy, but I do think they need a better method or even hire more people that can do DMV services. All in all, the employees were very nice and I was able to renew my tags. read more

Based on my experiences over the last year, It's my opinion that this AAA has some management issues. Understaffed for several of my visits, not knowing some basic DMV processes, and hearing supervisors speak very condescendingly with other customers, I can safely say that there are management issues here. Wish there was a different AAA in the area. Next time I may just make an appointment and go to DMV. read more

First off, these guys need to get out of the dark ages. For DMV renewals they only accept cash or check which is amazing because I was at the DMV recently and they accept debit atm which is basically the same thing as writing a check. They provide an ATM in the lobby for your convenience. Line took about 15 mins which is still better than the DMV. The cashier was very helpful and nice. Come on AAA the only people writing checks these days are women over 65. read more

Took me from 8am to 3pm to do anything... the first lady I talked to told me she couldn't call me a tow.. than put a note in the system so the next one wouldn't either... she did... the tow truck driver parked my van on the street instead of in the parking lot of the shop I was going to, so I called back to get this issue resolved.... the first lady hung up, the secound cold transfered me to the tow company that didn't answer, the third said he resolved the problem and called the tow, than the fourth informed me that the tow was not called so she actually called it for me... wow. Than to top it all off, the aaa shop i went to rrefused to take my truck, so the tow driver had to park mw back on the street, resolving nothing. What a juge waist of time. I just wanted to take the time to write how helpful Colleen in the DMV section is. My boyfriend and I went to register a motorcycle we just got that was a out of state bike. We went to the Huntington Beach location yesterday and they said without the engine number they couldn't even proceed with the process and it was blocking them out and that we'd have to go to the DMV no matter what. So we decided to try it out at the long beach location because we live right near it just to see. And Colleen hadn't even seen the bike yet to get the engine number and she was able to proceed and give us the cost tags registration and new plate. Then we went out so she could verify the engine and vin number of the bike. She was so completely helpful and kind. She is retiring in 112 days so sad she will be leaving. This is the closest location to me, and I really do not like coming here. The parking is terrible, there is always a line, especially for Dmv services. The wait for a notary is always over an hour and customer service is pretty basic. We bought travelers insurance from here which turned out to be another insurance rip off. I have got to find a better location for all the membership money we pay every year. read more
