I'm headed to Lisbon later this month where I will be renting a car. I stopped in to AAA to get an updated International Driving Permit. Yes, they're a very good idea to have if you're planning to drive anywhere outside of North America. Some rental car agencies will require you have one and certainly you need one if you have an encounter with the local gendarmerie, carabinieri or the garda. (And oops, I did not realize that they're only good for a year so my last one was expired when I stopped in Düsseldorf in October!) The process was quick and painless. I stood for a photo, signed a page or two and swiped my AmEx for $26. I now have a document good for the next year. I called for a quote to get a part replaced and brought it in. When they called me, they recommended other services to fix my car. I figure they know more than me so I pay a few thousand to get it done. I get the car back and the check engine light goes off for the same problem. I bring it back twice to check why it came on when they guaranteed that everything should be fixed. They wanted to charge me another couple thousand this time to do the fix I originally asked for. I decline and when getting my car back, they wanted to charge me a diagnostic charge because another code was present as well. Despite the original problem that they were supposed to fix was the focus and not fixed. One of them gave me a nasty attitude and told me to not come back. Not once had I raised my voice or try to be rude. He basically accused me of declining the service I literally went there for and accused me of trying to get diagnostics for free. Had a 1PM appointment for a tire rotation. Even arrived early. They finally brought my car in around 1:40 after I told them I couldn't wait much longer. It's now 15 minutes later and car is still on lift. Ridiculous. A 1PM appointment means 1PM. A tire rotation should take 10 minutes once car is on lift. I'll never come back. I typically come here to get my oil changed. They send coupons so you can get an oil change and tire rotation for $20 which is a better deal than I can find anywhere else in Charlotte. I always make an appointment and they're usually running on time, but sometimes I still have to wait for a bit. They have been flexible about squeezing me in when my battery died and I needed a new one at the last minute. They have a nice waiting area and store if you wait while they are working on your car. They are also friendly and helpful. I will continue coming here since you can't beat their prices. read more

My daughter brought her car in for a transmission fluid change and because of rough shifting under load. They did not change the fluid but charged her $150+ to diagnose that the car needed new transmission (Over $3500). She left a bit poorer and quite down. She brought the car to me and I test drove it. Issues - popped a check engine light and ESP light. Turns out the car was running poorly under load because of a broken ignition coil. Replaced and the car is 100%. I've been with AAA for 10+ years and other sites have done much, much better work with an eye towards fixing the real issue vs a) blowing off a 26 year old female or b) trying to fill their coffers. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Mad as he!! would be more appropriate. Please keep one hand on your wallet when going to AAA - especially at Steele Creek. read more

Recently I got an oil change here and I use them all of the time. Two weeks out my car had slowly leaked out the oil and the light came on. I took it back to them and they admitted that the oil plug was slightly ajar. They replaced the oil pan and did the oil change again for free. They dropped me at work and picked me up once it was completed. I was impressed by their admission of responsibility and the way that they made things right. I created a yelp account solely for the purpose of stearing anyone else away from going to this establishment. I had a terrible experince here. The staff was friendly! The service was ineffective and charged 100$ worth of labor without fixing the problem I asked them to address. They said they "cleaned and adjusted the breakdrums" which had no effect on the chief complaint of my breaks being squeaky. When I first walked into the place and talked to the manager at the front I TOLD him I needed new break pads and roaters in the front. They called saying that this wasnt the issue. I trusted them and went back to pay and retrieve my vehicle. 3 minutes into my drive home I heard my breaks sqeaking just the same! I was late to my nursing school class so I had to go home. When I brought my car to Good Year the following day they said that I needed new break pads and roaters in the front. HUH. who woulda knew.... waste of time and money. read more

I went yesterday because a cop gave me a ticket because my rear running lights were out. Also, my lights had stopped flashing when I used my key fob to unlock my car doors. The AAA serviceman took my car, inspected it and told me the problem wasn't any of the bulbs or a fuse. He said the problem was electrical and it would be $100 to start and increase from there depending on the actual problem. My husband was skeptical and took it to his mechanic today. They have been servicing my cars for some years now. And since I'm an AAA member. There's alway 20% off the services.. They're easy to get in. From minor things line oil change to brakes replacement.. I feel very easy talking to them.. Not a place you as a female feel like they're talking to you like you're dumb and can take advantage of you.. They used to take care of my Jeep SUV til it was time to retire her. Now they take care of my Sasha aka 2012 Mini Cooper.. I feel at ease.. HOWEVER, from time to time.. There's little carelessness. Like instead doing the right thing of replace my signal light. They use glue to secure in place which didn't last long. And just recently when I have all my brakes replaced. They never close my hood all the way.. Here I am flying down the highway with my hood shaking vigorously.. I was NOT happy.. But overall this is still the place to go after I fuss at them about the minor carelessness! read more

The first time my wife took her van to have tires balanced and rotated. No time estimate was given (which is fine). After about an hour, my wife received a phone call saying her car would be ready in 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, she walked through the doors only to find her car wasn't ready. No big deal. She ended up waiting another hour for her car to be ready The second time, I took my car for a standard oil change. I made an appointment for 11am. I had somewhere to be at 12:30 so I was hoping it wouldn't take long. The gentleman at the counter told me about an hour so I walked over to Rivergate to get some lunch. I walked back into the shop after 45 minutes only to find they haven't even gotten to my car. I told the man at the counter what I was told about the wait time. Second visit, different department, worse review. I stopped in to obtain some travel services..... another Member benefit. Upon arrival the woman agent at the travel desk said... (bad associate) "ahem.. can I help you?!?" (as she stretched her head in an uninviting and awkward pose). (me) yes, are you open. (In response to her awkward pose). (bad associate) uh... ah... no, we are not.. (with rude attitude) (me) oh, the door was open, how was I to know? (it was a few minutes past 6pm, I did not know their hours of operation) as I turned to walked out I said "how rude... this is my second visit here, once with bad service from the Auto department, now with bad service from the Travel department". (store manager) "oh, let me lock the door so nobody else makes the mistake" (as he pulls the door closed and in a very animated way locks the door). This place is in need of serious training on how to treat clients/Members. I stopped on the way driving out and asked the familiar kind service man I spoke with on my first visit asking who the boss was, told him my story briefly, he apologized and informed me that the man who locked me out on my way out was indeed the Manager. Poor choice, not very effective Manager. (frankly the "service man" should be the Manager, he was kind each visit and appeared to be a key employee). The current person who is managing is in need of serious re-training/demotion. All I wanted was travel info. a Membership benefit... I've been a Member since 1974. read more

UPDATE: A few days after I posted my review the manager of the car care center at AAA reached out to me and offered to refund the diagnosis fee as long as everything checked out with my receipt from Lakeview Auto Parts. I sent him the receipt proving that they totally missed the ball with the diagnosis on my car and I was able to get if fixed somewhere else for almost $300 less than they quoted me. After confirming everything the manager did indeed refund me the $62 for the diagnosis. read more

This was my first time visiting this location. It is convenient and well maintained with a nice waiting area for customers. However, I had an 11am appointment for an inspection and tire rotation that I was told would be completed in under an hour. I sat in the waiting area for over an hour and my car had still not been taken back. At 12:10 they finally pulled my car back and began the work - that's over an hour late. What is the point of making an appointment if they don't honor the time? To make matters worse, as I watched the workers through the glass window in the waiting area, they appeared to spend a lot of time talking, laughing and fooling around - while customers wait - and wait some more. If you're just going to drop your car off and come back later, this location may work for you. However, if you're pinched for time don't bother. Disappointed. read more

Not going here again. I have been bringing two cars to this location very consistently for oil changes and state inspections over the past 6 years. The service has always been prompt, courteous, and "not pushy" unless they had a true safety concern! I watched a team of employees, whom I had not seen before, basically shame people into the Premium oil change (me being one) because we came in after 3000k miles for an oil change and that is what we needed to do. Um, no thanks! I will stick with the same oil change I have ALWAYS gotten based on my mileage and needs. I was sitting there watching all of this only to get to the counter to be told my inspection failed over something they had passed at least 3 times in the past! I get the inspector is certified and has a job to do, but I was just not happy with everything else I witnessed and then to get this outcome. BTW, an elderly couple was unnecessarily being up-sold to the premium oil change right next to me at the same time. :( I just drove up the road and got my inspection elsewhere....and it passed. Hmmmm....SMH Yeah, yeah, yeah - the inspector did nothing wrong and I was told he was hired because the last guy was doing it all wrong. The mechanic even came out and talked with me after the oil change as a physician would come out to speak with the patient and family after a surgical or procedural service was provided. He gave me an opportunity to ask questions as well, and he answered all of the questions I had very nicely and professionally. I made my appointment online and requested they tell me if it was a busy time so I could get in and out on schedule for other appointments that day. I arrived early and while sitting in the waiting room the counter guy came back and said they had to order the oil filter as my 2016 Santa Fe was so new that the filters were difficult to find. Two year old car. I showed them that Advanced Auto up the street had tons of them in stock but he said they had to get them from NAPA so we were waiting on the delivery. Because it was such a "rare" filter they had to charge me $19 although the most expensive one at Advanced Auto was $12. So I paid ~$50 for an oil and filter change. I wouldn't trust this place with my lawnmower. Our son took his car here to have a full brake and transmission service performed. A very hefty bill. When he drove the car out, one of the calipers was locked up solid. They then tried to charge him to repair the caliper. After they tried to tell us they didn't touch the caliper (to replace pads) they finally admitted fault. Next came the clutch and flywheel rattling (again, they serviced this). Today we pick up the car and after pulling out and across the street, the clutch fails. They are now coming to get the car. The saga goes on. read more

I received a $40 gift card for a AAA Car Care Center and decided to use it for an oil change. They told me I had to have a $160 differential oil flush to keep my warranty intact. I decided to research first and found that's only for manual transmission. I thus told them to only do the oil change and anything else they "found" I'd take to my mechanic. When they asked who my mechanic was I told them they didn't need to know. The guy then snidely asked why I didn't go to my mechanic for the oil change. I told him it was because I had the gift card. It was not worth it. After a bad experience at a AAA Car Care Center in Columbia too, I think I've finally learned you can't trust these places. read more

Great place for quick oil changes and inspections. But after 30,000 miles they started insisting I needed my CVT, Diff, and Break fluid changed. Break fluid is recommended at 30,000 per my manual but the others are not. Feeling something was up, at 42,000 miles I serviced at the dealership where they told me that CVT fluid is 100,000 miles!, Diff fluid is 50,000 miles, and he wasn't overly concerned I didn't want to do the Break fluid yet. My big concern about this place is their recommendation on the CVT fluid - which could actually DAMAGE my CVT. CVT (unlike a regular transmission) is a closed system and not meant to be opened needlessly. I wonder what type of fluid they would have put in it had I let them??? Buyer beware. read more

The manager Mike Alexander was extremely helpful, no nonsense, & will definitely get my business again and I will recommend to others in Steele Creek area.
