After 15 years of owning a Miele Vacuum (that finally showed it's age beyond repair) that I bought from a different A1 Vacuum dealer I was more than excited to buy a new Vacuum system, and Sebo was the one I wanted. The model was the D4 Airbelt Premium. I saw Patrick's YouTube video and he seemed very genuine in his presentation. Months later I called him to make the purchase. Patrick is the owner of the shop in Reno. He was easy to deal with, no sales pressure and gave me a deal, although I did have to pay for shipping, which was absolutely fair. Here's the issue. I'm a new customer and I told him I was pretty excited about getting this new vacuum. He shipped it out fast and I when I picked it up at UPS it wasn't inside a shipping box, but rather Patrick shipped it in the factory carton the vacuum was packaged in. The carton (as you see in the pictures) had a tear in the label and the box looks old and worn with a small gash in the box. I tried to give some blame to UPS but the box looking old with a tear in the label wasn't something UPS could've possible done. This is the exactly why I expected it to be shipped in an actual brown shipping box. Afterwards I called Patrick to ask him about the accessories I purchased, such as the Kombi Premium floor brush and the vacuum bags. The floor brush was being shipped separately (directly from Sebo) and he said he opened my vacuum's carton and placed the bags in there. I said, "You opened the box?" I honestly didn't want my box opened by anyone but me. It simply doesn't feel new, especially since he also opened the box of the bags and threw the bags inside and kept the box to the bags. Hmm. Interesting enough, when I received the Kombi Premium floor brush directly from Sebo it was in a perfect condition shipping box and well-packaged. Aside from some broken styrofoam inside, the vacuum was in good condition. No scratches or damage. The handle grip had an obvious squeaky sound to it. Rather than calling Patrick I called Sebo and they sent me a new hose/handle. They thought it was odd when they heard the creaking on a new vacuum over the phone. I slightly suspected that Patrick had opened this vacuum long before I purchased it. Overall the vacuum works perfectly and I have used it nearly everyday. Up to this point I have only owned the vacuum for under 10 days. Yes, less than 10 days, but things got worse. Okay, like any customer I had a bit of buyer's remorse, but only on the color choice. I bought the white vacuum, but changed my mind and wanted the Onyx Black model. I did not want a refund. So on Saturday I called Patrick and asked him what would it cost me to send the white one back and get the black. I was perfectly willing to pay all shipping. He asked me had I tried the vacuum yet and I said, "Yes, almost every day, it's a great machine". He said he couldn't take it back because it would be considered a used vacuum and he couldn't sell it as new anymore. I would get that if it was beyond the return period but I haven't even owned the vacuum for 10 days and that's before it got shipped. As a business owner he should be handling my request before thinking about himself. I have never heard of such shady practices from an authorized dealer. "You Buy, You Try, It's Yours, No refunds/Exchanges". Patrick never disclosed the return policy to me and that is something he should've absolutely done, especially if you can't try the vacuum without being stuck with it. I called Sebo and they said their policy is 30 days return/refund and the customer is welcomed to vacuum as often as needed. The issue is the Onyx Black color is only available through an authorized dealer. This experience is poor from start to end, and today is my 14th day of "owning" the vacuum (that includes the day of purchase, not the day I received it). I am also a YouTuber representing kitchen appliances and my customers are very excited about buying these expensive products and I take care of them every which way, and I don't dodge them if they have questions or need to make a change. Patrick cares only of today's bottom line and not future customer referrals. You certainly won't get future business from customers you don't treat well after they spent over $1000. That's a big purchase for me. The excitement is gone. I am thinking of reaching out to the Better Business Bureau, and I am certain they would side in my favor on this easily because a zero return/exchange policy simply because the product was tried out is unprofessional and unacceptable of a business who is an authorized dealer, and perhaps Patrick should not be selling Sebo products moving forward. Patrick seems to think it's okay for the dealer to open the customer's sealed box from the factory without their knowledge. How do I know this wasn't a "used vacuum"? DO NOT BUY from A1 Vacuum & Sewing (Reno) unless you simply hate your money. It's a pity that some consumers have to go through the pain and inform others. read more

I stopped in to buy a vacuum. I was immediately greeted as I walked through the door. I sort of did my homework on which vacuum I wanted. The guy explained to me his take on different vacuum cleaners and why. No pressure sales. I even had the pleasure of testing a couple of their vacuums. I liked the performance on it and ended up walking out with a German made Sebo. He was very knowledgeable on vacuums, I liked their customer service, and even though it was an expensive vacuum cleaner, I sort of liked their pricing. Brought in an embroidery machine for service, was told they were two weeks behind, and that it would cost $150, when we brought it in, they changed the price on us to $190, moved the machine arm even though there is a big warning label saying DON'T DO THAT. 3 weeks later still not done, came in to pick up the machine, and there was dog pee next to thousand dollar machines on the floor, heard them talking about charging someone labor that would have been covered under warranty. They were incredibly rude and unprofessional, I could not recommend them less, what a joke. read more

Funny thing Patrick when you call the Official Meile Company they told me you are not an authorized to fix them with the guarantee. They do not support you as a Meile distributor-- I saw enough in the store to see you were not the pro you held your self out to be. I went to another actual Meile Dealer who had permission to perform warranted work and they informed me that you forgot to change out the circuit board that goes with a new hose. No wonder my vacuum did no suck when you attached it. I will never do business with a liar like you. I intend to run away from a business like yours. read more

I had originally called and spoke with Patrick. I've got an old Kenmore that I've brought back to life a few times. Needed a bobbin wheel. "Bring your old one in to make sure it's right." I did and it was. PLUS I brought in 2 empty bobbins and asked if they could refill them for me just in case the wheel wasn't right. Very friendly and very comfortable. read more

I am fairly new to the area and needed repair on my Brother sewing machine. They are an authorized Brother repair shop and did a great job fixing the problem and had my machine back to me in a week. The owner was really nice, honest with the appraisal for repair and saved me some money by telling me how I could do a little maintenance on an accessory for my machine that I brough along to ask about. He could have taken in the part and charged me more for repair, but didn't. Very refreshing and his honesty was appreciated! The staff is friendly and on the day I visited the owners cute little dog was there in a vest as a very spiffy greeter. I love to visit places where people have a welcoming pet. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Patrick is rude and uncaring, I called 3 times over two weeks to get a quote for the vacuum Ieft there...which quote was extremely high any only addressed half of the problem (needed two parts, they only had researched one part). I told them never mind. I picked up my vacuum, and they had re-installed the bad motor (for some reason) and broke the head off one of the screws, so I could not then remove the bad motor. I brought it back for them to fix what they broke and Patrick told me I could do it myself with pliers. I said I'd leave him a 'nice' review, he said 'see ya later.' What began as a a simple attempt at self-repair of one internal screw on a sewing machine I had purchased 6 years ago led to the classic "me" move of not being able to reassemble the thing, I reached out to a seamstress pal who immediately suggested A-1. She noted that they offer both repair services as well as used and new sewing machine. I'm not typically the customer looking for a catered business sale; I consider myself quite thrifty and rarely seek a product at full price. That being said, I first inquired about either fixing my existing machine, or purchasing a used machine. At that time, only one or two used mechanical machines were in the store for sale, and the cost to reassemble/diagnose my machine started at $50. I told myself we had a good run, and I confirmed with Jeanne (who assisted me right off the bat) that I could be swooned to buy a new machine. For the next hour, I learned that the future of sewing machines was HERE...and to be fair, probably had been for a decade. Electric machines that thread your needle. Machines with touchpad screens. Machines that stitch with the push of a button and no foot pedal. Essentially, robots. I equate my mixed emotion of both horror and delight at the time as an elderly person may now view the internet. Once I established that my price range was well below the $1300 mark of some of the more exclusive models, Jeanne brought me into more familiar territory in my established price range. She demonstrated, step-by-step, setting up and using both mechanical machines and hybrid mechanical/electrical machines. I was even coaxed to load bobbins, create stitches, and otherwise *feel* what each machine I was considering had to offer. It was a highly personalized experience, and it gave me more clarity on my ultimate goals with sewing, and what each machine could do to fit those objectives. I selected a hybrid Brother machine that came with some bells and whistles (like dozens of embroidery stitches, button-holes, and the option for monograms), but still gave me the option to use a foot pedal and have the control I have been accustomed to. All of the machines I was shown were being sold at a discount, and Jeanne even offered extra savings at the last minute, which removed a portion of the sales tax and really put this purchase at a 'sigh of relief' level for me. Going even further, Jeanne got my email and connected me with a series of YouTube videos she had created from her quarantine time specifically geared toward using this machine I purchased. Truly truly an above and beyond person and overall company model. I never felt pressured to commit, and though my stitches were awkward under observation, I think it is incredibly valuable to 'test drive' whatever thing it is you're about to invest in. So, a HUGE thank you to Jeanne (and the other folks at A-1) for helping me make an informed purchase, taking the time to make sure I knew what I wanted, and for the extended offers for virtual or in-person support. I stopped in because my bag-less vacuum kept overheating and I was in the market for a new one. I was more than impressed with the customer service and how direct the Pat the salesman/owner was with me. He definitely narrowed down my needs with two pets in the house and 90% carpet coverage in my home. He then catered the needs of the vacuum to the price point and longevity I was looking to get out of the new vacuum's lifespan. He then offered a trade in value and discounted price, but never pressured me into anything and never sounded gimmicky or insincere. I ended up not pulling the trigger that day, but narrowed down exactly what I want to purchase. Pat was able to teach me about the vacuum industry without sounding snooty or too industrial/technical. I actually left there excited about vacuum cleaners, which I never thought would have happened in a million years. They've been doing this for over 40 years and I always try to support independent retailers, as I am a small local business owner myself. I was a bit worried that "vacuum"comes before "sewing" in their name, but all my fears were put to rest when I walked in to the business in an unassuming strip mall off Virginia Street. The generous and well lighted space had all the things I needed for purchasing and learning about my new serger. Jeanne, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. I told her exactly what I wanted and she didn't try to upsell me or interest me in things I didn't want. I got a great value. I have since taken two zoom classes to try to use my new machine, and Jeanne has been very helpful. The only complaint I have is that the business has been so busy every time I've been in. 2-23-18 Update. I'm still happy as can be with both my Simplicity upright and canister vacuums. I would definitely buy them again. But very nice that I don't have to because they are both working good as new! --------- Before I found A-1 Vacuum or contacted Peter I bought a Dyson from Costco. I tried it out at home and was happy with its suction but I did not like other things about it...the bag-less operation requiring me to play in the dirt to empty the container for one thing. It was fun to see stuff swirl up out of my carpet but that seemed like a fad that would be less fun with time. It has Onboard tools that I found clumsy and inconvenient. I returned the Dyson to Costco. Then I had to make a trip South so I went to the Oreck store in Riverside California and tested the Oreck Magnesium. It is a sleek simple and fantastically light weight machine, but didn't seem as powerful as the Dyson. The store manager told me the Magnesium actually did not have as much power as the Dyson because it didn't need it. His logic was that the Magnesium has better brushes than Dyson so it doesn't need as much power. I was not impressed enough with that argument to pay hundreds of dollars for a less powerful machine. I had owned an original Oreck decades earlier and was happy with it. But I wanted more power. I wanted the clean simple design and light weight of the Oreck and the suction of the Dyson. But that seemed like an impossibility so I decided that I would buy a cheap used Oreck to hold me over till I had time to really research good vacuums. I found Peter on Craigslist because he had refurbished Orecks advertised. I emailed him some questions and he replied to my email the same day in the evening. I always appreciate quick replies to my emails! He seemed helpful so we went in to the store to see his used Orecks. They looked good for used vacuums and came with 90 day warranties. I was ready to just buy one. Luckily he suggested I try the new SIMPLICITY FREEDOM upright. I listened to Peter explain all the great features. I really LOOKED at its DESIGN...clean and simple. It turned out to be the QUALITY vacuum of my dreams. NO clunky Onboard tools hanging on it. Lightweight. The EASIEST bag changing system I have seen on an upright. And the little thing is MUCH MORE POWERFUL THAN THE DYSON!!! It came with a free little canister vac that also has fantastic suction and all the best tools. For me, having this little LIGHTWEIGHT powerful "SPORT" canister Is a much more functional system than lugging Onboard tools around every time I vacuum. I had never heard of Simplicity vacuums. Then Peter explained it's the same company that makes Simplicity DRESS PATTERNS! Well of course I've heard of Simplicity! And their vacuums are MADE IN AMERICA. I love everything about both Simplicity machines I bought. Anyone needing a new or used vacuum should check with Peter before buying. If you are not familiar with the POWERHOUSE little SIMPLICITY vacuums you should try one out before you buy something else. I like to save money. But I have learned that "price" and "cost" are often very different. I would rather pay a higher price for one quality machine that will perform well for many many years instead of buying several cheap machines that will end up COSTING me more over the same amount of years. When I buy the best I am never disappointed. Go talk to Peter. He seems to really want us to get what is best for us and be happy with our choice. And 90 day warranty on a used Oreck? That still seems like a good deal if you want a used vacuum! read more

Worst sewing repair shop I have ever been to. Should be -stars actually. Twice Ive had my embroidery sewing combo machine in there and neither times did they fix the bobbin winder let alone anything else. He will tell you they don't need the embroidery attachment for repairs. Yes, you do. 6 inches of sewing stitches does NOT mean your embroidery machine is fixed. Sometimes you need thousands of stitches before it shows an issue. I have never had anyone fix my embroidery machine and not give me an embroidered sample to show its fixed properly. If you you are desperate enough to take your machine here, demand a list of fixed issues upon pickup. He (or Michelle who "worked" on my machine last time) will lie and say they are fixed when they aren't (my bobbin winder for example) If they cant even fix that properly I wont trust my machine there again. Sierra Sewing is far better!! Remember good places are always hard to get to/schedule. This place is a joke. read more

My wife and I went in to look at a small sewing machine for her sewing club uses.one that is light and portable My wife does quilting and embroidery and had a large Brother Quattro 3 machine .peter made us a deal to upgrade the Old Brother to a new model Baby Lok and included the smaller machine for us Peter and his wife were very helpful and my wife is looking forward to the classes. Initially, we recieved excellent customer service from Peter. However, this last time we took in our vacuum and carpet cleaner, Peter was not at his best. My husband told him the carpet cleaner wasn't working right, and it wasn't cleaning the carpet, because the soap wasn't coming out. Peter was VERY short with him, and told him it was working fine, and didn't need any service. He also told my husband that the vacuum had lost a motor, and he would fix that, and he did. However, we took our carpet cleaner to another service center, and they found the soap wasn't coming out because the holes were clogged! Peter was supposed to have serviced the cleaner last year, and clean out the holes, but obviously, he didn't because it hasn't worked right since we picked it up last year. The new service center also told my husband how to use the machine, and it was nothing like Peter told us when we bought it. He said we could leave the soap in the machine, and they told us not to do that, it's why the holes were clogging. My husband picked up the cleaner, and we will not return to A-1 Vacuum & Sewing again, too much bad information and attitude. Oh, Peter only carries a few vacuums now, and has turned most of the shop into sewing machines. Maybe he doesn't want to service vacuums anymore, which is why his attitude was so bad. Peter and John are two of the best customer service people in Reno! We have purchased a vacuum, carpet cleaner, and sewing machine from Peter, and all have performed beautifully, outperforming our previous models tremendously. We've dealt with other vacuum "professionals" in Reno who were absolutely horrible and unprofessional, but Peter is a pro, and I'd recommend him to anyone. I took the Serger Binding Class at A-1 on Friday, March 22, 2019. It was a 2-hour class and I was able to bind a 12" x 12" test sample and a small lap quilt that was 45" x 60". I finished well before the 2 hours was up and had time to shop. I bought extra fusible thread spools and got 20% off as a benefit for taking the Serger class. Jeanne M. , the instructor, demonstrated and provided great tips and techniques for this Serger class. I also learned some additional tips from fellow class participants. Yep!
