If you are in a rush, I'd recommend skipping out on this location. I got the rice pulao, biryani rice, 6 naan, 6 samosas, jumbo shahi paneer, medium daal, and a medium channa masala. I was told it would be 20 minutes, but I'm still waiting for my food 40 minutes later as the line is growing. To be fair, I had a pretty big order and I think their samosas are fried to order, but it would have taken me only 10 minutes if I went to my regular place and at half the price ($56 for all that...). When I finally got the order, the lady told me to order ahead next time. Food wise, it was really good but there was barely any pieces of paneer in the shahi paneer as it was mostly gravy. Not a huge fan of the samosas, but I think that's because I'm used to a different kind. Not sure how clean that container is. The samosa was fat, very lightly spiced potato. It tasted like potato, salt and green peas. The outer shell was not crunchy and was very thin. This is one neighboured business that I've regularly patronized ever since it opened its doors in Oakville And for 2 reasons: 1. Their food was finger lickin good 2. I wanted a south Asian restaurant to survive and do well in my town Then this happens... 2 weeks ago I ordered 2 Papri Chaats and 1 Bhel Puri and went across picked them up and when I get back home and open the packs I discover: 1. There was NO Papri in the Papri Chaat 2. There was no sauce or chutney with the Bhel Puri I call and speak to 'Lisa' and she tells me that I could come back anytime and she would give me 2 papri chaats and 1 bhel Puri to make up for the error So, a couple of days ago I go there and ask for Lisa I was told she no longer works there I speak to the owner who tells me that since there is no record of my complaint she couldn't give me what Lisa had promised but would give me 1 papri chaat I had to respectfully decline I wasn't there either because I had nothing better to do or because I was looking for a free papri chaat I did try really hard to support this local business ... but they've made it almost impossible for me to go back Good luck A1. Sat here had a meal after a long time. The last time we sat there was when A1 would let customers buy a Thali and let you eat at the restaurant. From the time they started buffet we just do takeout. So this time we took 2 two item combos and 1 one item combo with a Samosa Chaat. This not only prevents us from eating mindlessly but also eat as soon as it served rather than eat at home within containers and also perhaps be a little more economical. The family had Palak Paneer and Malai Kofta, a Mixed Vegetables and Mutter Paneer and the third one with just Cumin Potatoes (one of the four item that is marked as Vegan) The 2 two item were with Naans and the one item with Rotis without butter to make it vegan. The Samosa Chaat also without the Green Spicy Chutney as it has yogurt to make it Vegan. The Cumin Potatoes were too dry to eat and gets to you after a couple of bites. Will stick Chole or Daal the next time. The items fresh and perfectly spiced - not too spicy and not overly seasoned as many Indian Restaurants are. The naans were soft and hot. The way family likes it. The Rotis came out nice and hot and were soft. Did we like the food, sure. Did we save some money? A bit. Could have paid a few extra dollars and had a larger variety of food, however on the downside would have gained a couple of pounds and regretted at night. I was here during lunch hours on a Saturday and found the place quite crowded. The folks seemed to be unclear about how to manage stuff efficiently and the service gets slow. The food is good - they have have chaats as well as the buffet and there are several options. The prices are reasonable and that draws the crowd to the place. Seems like they have a constant flow of regular customers and don't care to address the service issue. Overall, it's a good place if you are wanting Indian vegetarian options. read more

I went to A1 Sweets recently with my brother. We were craving paranthas so this was the only choice we had in Oakville. I have been here before for their samosas and they are really good. Although this time the quality of food was very disappointing. We ordered Aloo and Mixed Paranthas; both with medium level of spices. Aloo Paranthas tasted like they had only put boiled potatoes (aloo) in them and nothing else. There was no flavour at all. On the other hand, mixed parantha didn't had anything in it other than way too many spices. We ordered Mango Lassi as well which was supposed to be discounted as part of a meal (written on the menu) but they refused to do so and it was $5 each again with disappointing quality and quantity. As long as service goes, it has been bad both times. Expect to be ignored and served slowly if you decide to visit this place. Tip to the owner: You have a wonderful opportunity to make it a Indian food hub since it is at a good location with no other Indian places nearby. I wouldn't mind paying more than what I pay in Brampton if the quality is good. But the last visit made me determined to never go back. read more

Serendipity... from California Burrito... what? One night after work, I had a craving for some Mexican food and stumbled upon California Burrito. Coming from California myself, I had to give this place a try. But what I didn't realize was that California Burrito apparently is on California time and was closed before 8 on a weeknight. LAME! So I decided to give A1 Sweets a try. Like other reviewers mentioned, there are about 8-10 cafeteria bins of vegetarian Indian food. I chose the Paneer Tikki Masala (nuclear orange colored - like butter chicken but w/ cheese) and the Aloo Gobi (orange potato-y stew - spicy potatoes and cauliflower). Both were super tasty and had more that home cooked quality that results from cooking in smaller quantities. Entree came with rice and roti and was more than plenty of food for a single person, I think the Thali plate could probably feed two. We started going to this restaurant about two yeard ago for Saturday or Sunday for Gobi Prantha breakfast special. Pranthas were made with TLC with all the typical spices, ginger corriender eyc. The Gobi stuffing was plentiful. One Prantha with yogurt would leave you totally satisfied Alas! Like most Indian Restaurants, success usually leads to quality deterioration and significant increase in prices. Pranthas are half the size and about 50% more expensive. Last time we went, there was no ginger or corriender in Pranthas. But still their vege buffet is pretty good. read more

This restaurant specializes in North Indian Vegetarian cuisine and Indian sweets. This is not an easy area to assess quality as this is a cuisine near and dear to my heart. On the whole, the quality of the food is good and some dishes can be exceptional. We've found the Channa, Aloo Jeera and Kadhi to be very good. I'm not a paneer fan so ymmv. The mooli-ki-roti (radish stuffed roti) made hot is an exceptional dish. It captured the true flavors of the dish. Pakoras, Samosa tend to be good. Sweets are generally of high quality by Indian flavors but are very sweet so ymmv. Note that the sweetness is characteristic of original flavour so it's a question of originality vs customizing to contemporary tastes. Recommended. read more

My girlfriend and I purchased food and drink from this place a couple of days ago at my suggestion. The last time I visited this place was 3 years ago...so I suspect that there has been a change in business ownership, philosophy, or both in this intervening period. I wish I had not suggested this place. Half way through making an order for two thali combos I noticed a posted sign that stated that thali orders were for takeout only. As I was making the order I did not sincerely believe that eating inside their dining area would pose a problem as I trusted that human compassion and reason would prevail in the end. As I was soon to find out, my trust and belief in positive human nature was sorely misplaced in regards to the ownership and staff at this place. After we had received our order, I politely asked if my girlfriend and I would be allowed to eat in their dining area. The answer to my inquiry was no. I responded by politely informing them that in business, rules need to be flexible as dictated by the situations and the people involved, and would they please reconsider. They were not willing to back down from their rule. In response, I informed them that I would not be purchasing anything from them in the future. This knowledge didn't seem to bother them at all. In fact, I now believe that they don't really care about their customers--it's only about the money. This situation is unfortunate because my girlfriend and I are from out of town...not from Oakville at all...so we had no warm place to eat our takeout on a cold winter's night. And while I respect the fact that they have rules and recognize my own responsibility in this situation, the fact is that we had to eat in my car on a cold winter's night which was not nice at all. Really, their thali rule is about money. A thali combo costs $8.99 and is considered worthy of only being takeout, while a more expensive buffet meal costs $11.99 per person which allows you to eat inside their dining area. Why not just allow ALL of your customers ALL of the time to use your dining area? You CANNOT impose rules that convey first class and second class customers in this country, you just can't. But I guess it was worth annoying me and providing me with a lousy customer service experience just for the sake of imposing your rules? In business, ALL customers must feel that their orders are equally valuable to you. Please change your rules or more customers like me will go elsewhere. Service, is GOOD, they do try, they still are not comparable to your Canadian customer service at a food chain BUT they are very friendly and they cater to the customer needs. the place is CLEAN however, their shelves are very cluttery although it does not really affect the customer satisfaction, just for their own organization, I suggest to either organize the shelves or add a door to make it a close cupboard. In my 19 years I have never experienced worse customer service. Incredibly rude manager. I brought back a dish (kheer) that was prepared awfully, and simply asked for compensation of some sort. The man managing told me "it's not his problem, and that's how they make the dish". I am from pakistan, and have had this dish many times, what I bought from A1 sweets was NOT kheer. The manager spent 15 minutes arguing, and being rude with me infront of all the other customers. I've gotten better customer service at crappies fast food joints. Samosas veggies are often raw inside (consistently disappointed). They keep pouring in new food and mixing it in the buffet pans that contain the old food and so sometimes you get the taste that the food is rotten. i have given this feedback quietly to them but they refused to listen and denied it - even though I am the customer actually tasting the food.
