Yelp is an interesting platform because everyone's expectations, tastes and opinions all come into play. I read some of the reviews on this place, scratched my head, and had to chime in. This Chinese take-out is better than any other takeout I've had within a two hour driving radius. The rice actually has flavor, the vegetables appear and taste fresh and the cost is very reasonable - to be more precise - this place is less expensive than any traditional fast food joint. We regularly order a couple special combo platters to go (top of the menu, includes pork fried rice and an egg roll). Two platters feed a family of four and there are normally leftovers. We got A+ Orange chicken, general tsos chicken, and shrimp w garlic sauce. Ask for white rice -- doesn't include or gives fried rice unless you ask. I love food from this takeout. I don't know what the other reviewers are on about. The rice is fluffy and fragrant. The orange chicken is sweet, blazingly hot, made to order, and even included delicious orange zest. Veggies are always fresh. Ridiculously huge portions that can equal two meals. Cheap and reliably delicious. Always order when I'm in Potsdam. This American Chinese takeout is a godsend. read more

I bring my mom whose 73 there and I've had good service til the last 2 times the mother of 2 kids there wasn't around. She has a very polite young son full of energy and always helpful to me. The mom is the best in understanding the English language and speaking it. Sad thing is the others don't seem to know English as well but I didn't have problems til I asked for a smaller portion of food from a list that they could have made for my mom and I was stuck with enough to last her 3 days. I asked for it in a to go container and they put it on a plate anyway. The young woman with kids there understands since she's the owner. She put my moms food in a to go container but not the others on a previous visit. The language barrier is a challenge for these people but thankfully I can understand them. I gave them 3 stars for quality, quantity and variety. As far as communication and getting the order right when the owners and their kids aren't there I give no stars but the food was as good as any other time. My local restaurant was closed in May so coming from Massena gave me as good of a quality food for a price that was comparable. I wish the folks well at A1 Kitchen and hope to better understand and communicate with them in the future. I'm not eating in when there's no AC anymore. It's gonna be takeout from now on. read more

Have ordered from here a couple of times for delivery and each time the service was so terrible. The person taking the orders has always been so rude and occasionally hangs up on myself or my friends. Food takes up to an hour plus to make and be delivered to us Food is not terrible, but the service overall is a total turn off for ordering in the future. read more

I almost died. I ordered the Pork with garlic sauce and was served the shrimp with garlic sauce. After I explained to the "waitress" that I have a shellfish allergy and I couldn't eat the shrimp she took it back and brought out the pork in under two minutes. I can only assume that they pulled the shrimp out and tossed some pork in seeing how I ended up in the hospital an hour later in anaphylactic shock from an allergic reaction. I returned the following day and explained the situation. The owner was incredibly rude and didn't even give me a full refund. I was in the middle of explaining the severity of the situation and she started talking to her employee. Needless to say I won't be going back. read more

Tried again- we went here 11 years ago & it was awful. This time we tried new entrees - bean curd with garlic- passable but not nearly as good as the A1 in Canton. Tried the chow fun noodles - came with bait shrimp no veggies and no flavor- our egg rolls were dripping in grease. Will not be back . I have been getting takeout from this business for many years. They have amazing egg rolls, and also spring rolls. Some other items I would recommend would be their steamed dumplings, breaded chicken wings, and garlic chicken. Since the end of Covid, they no longer offer dine-in. I recommend you call your order in ahead of time. Delivery is available for Potsdam and Norwood areas. My only wishes would be two additional items, Shrimp Toast to return to the menu, and shrimp shumai. read more

Standard issue Chinese place when you walk in, everything you would expect, but... The food here is just terrible, as in the whole menu. I have been here several times, just because of its location in Potsdam, and ordered something different each time, it all tastes bad. If yelp could allow me to give no stars I would. Absolutely horrible service, delivery took over one hour. We received only one of the things we actually ordered. In my life I have never had chow mein that had rice and just a bunch of lettuce. It was absolutely the most horrible meal I have ever had. The lady when I called back to check what I had actually ordered was incredibly rude and put the entire blame on me. I have been to so many Chinese restaurants and had chow mein and not one of them was with rice. Just to check if I was wrong I searched up what chow mein and lo mein was and here is the first thing on the internet and I quote "The main difference between chow mein and lo mein is that different methods are used to make these stir-fry noodles. Both chow mein and lo mein use wheat-flour egg noodles. More authentic chow mein noodles are fried to crispness, while lo mein noodles are boiled to softness." The A1 Kitchen is definitely ideal for Potsdam takeout - especially if you don't want pizza. The food comes fast, and the service is good. They have a variety of dishes that are very good. If you're going to stop by, check out their soups. The place itself is decorated like a pretty standard Chinese takeout place, but it's nice. The restaurant is definitely more for takeout than sitting down, but A1 does have tables to sit down at. read more

Talked to a rude woman who spoke horrible broken English, and even though I was being patient she was acting annoyed that i couldn't understand her Chenglish. This place honestly is not that great and the customer service sucks. The food itself is mostly subpar and the orders are often wrong. They include chopsticks as other places do and more often than not, don't even put them in when you ask for them. Recently, when a friend and I had ordered out from them, they forgot to include an item which we discovered later and despite an overpayment on the bill due to confusion, they said they wouldn't do anything because it wasn't on the receipt even though it was specifically asked for. Absolutely the most DISGUSTING, TERRIBLE, EXPLICITLY HORRENDOUS restaurant in Potsdam. The food is OVER PRICED, and of ATROCIOUS quality. A typical delivery takes an hour and a half. I had to WAIT OVER TWO HOURS to receive my meal once. When I asked for some sort of compensation for the inconvenience, the owner responded, "No free food." This is after the delivery person involved in the issue gave me an attitude about the situation. I am so fucking sick of this place. I have ordered steamed mixed vegetables with the clarification that they not be cooked in a pan in contact with meat, and have found chicken in the vegetables SEVERAL TIMES. None of this even considers the fact that the owner is (most likely illegally) delegating her young (about 10 years old) children to work, likely for no compensation. You will never talk to an adult on the phone. You will only ever have your order taken by ten year old children who should not be responsible for running their parents' fucking business.
