Being vegan in Saranac Lake is tough. When I saw China Jade offered vegan options, I was grateful. But the woman behind the counter taking orders was startlingly rude when I tried to ask questions about the menu (trying to figure out what, exactly, was vegan). I'm used to unfriendly, but this was a step below that; it was humiliating. If you're craving some mediocre Chinese that's what you'll get. A couple friends and I do an annual trip to the area, and this year decided to support a bunch of local business' on main for lunch, and do a buffet style lunch. One of my friends and I decided to go to China jade to get some simple chicken, rice, broccoli, etc. dishes. Food was done nice and quick, the place was dead. Customer service was terrible, worker was incredibly rude to us, ignored us initially when we entered. I even tried calling a few hours before we stopped in, and when I asked to place an order for pick up they just hung up. After that they just did not answer the phone. Love this place! My go-to Chinese takeout in town. Measures up well to any other takeout Chinese place I've been to in the country. I liked my basil chicken on white rice. It was flavorful and delicious. The lady at the front brought it over to us. How nice! It was also served to me on real dishes, not paper plates with silverware. Amazed am I. My hubby ordered orange beef, and it was pretty crispy. The portions here are huge! I was so full afterwards. I especially liked the view outside when the town was covered in snow. When I got here, there was a teen hangout, but nevertheless, the food is awesome. I thought it was fun to read my fortune. Didn't feel like cooking, didn't feel like going out to eat, and had already gotten takeout from Little Italy this week, so I decided to try China Jade. The szechuan tofu was tasty, but could have used a bit more heat. Egg foo young was pretty good although somewhat lacking in flavor. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 general T'sos combo plates with chicken lo mien. When we picked it up we got a chicken lo mien with fried rice combo plate and a general T'sos with fried rice combo. We both are highly allergic and can't eat rice. They refuse to admit to the mistake and refused to fix the order or give our money back. I highly do not recommend China Jade. As you as you walk in the door, you get barked at for your order -- no time to look at the faded pictures of food above the counter nor read the printed menu. Some food is just average, but some food looks like no effort was taken. I ordered a noodle dish with a thick sauce. The noodles sat on shredded lettuce (no mixing) and the sauce was glopped on top of the noodles. Again, it was not mixed. As I ate in (as opposed to take out) which was a mistake, I tried to mix in the thick sauce which was nearly impossible given the ultra cheap plastic utensils. We tried this place after our main staple for Chinese food (No. 1) had a fire and was temporarily closed. It was not very good at all. It did not taste good or normal for chinese food. We went in the middle of winter and it was FREEZING. They had a child in a snow suit (in doors) meaning he needed to wear a snow suit inside to be warm. He was playing in the middle of the floor with tons of toys. The woman behind the counter said something and the little boy grabbed a broom, 3 feet taller than the boy himself and started sweeping. Eaten here countless times. This place is as good as casual American-style Chinese food gets. I ate at China Jade for many years. And I didn't realize how good it was until I moved across the country, even living in a west coast Chinatown, and didn't try it again for several years. It's not gourmet. It's not going to taste like whatever you ate on vacation in wherever for two weeks that suddenly made you an expert on other cultures' food. General Tso's isn't Chinese cuisine. It's made for Americans with a mild hangover and here it's neither mushy nor over breaded. Instead it's fresh, made to order, and glazed perfectly. Is the counter service curt? Sure. Usually. But go to any Chinese fast casual spot in New York City and you're not going to find more pleasantries or better food. I'll be back next year. read more

Amazing Chinese food in the most unassuming space! As recent transplants to the North Country from NYC we have been longing for good Chinese and finding China Jade has filled that void. Good food. Decent prices. Quick. It's the "good" Chinese food place in town. They have the best crab rangoons around. Their General Tso's chicken has the perfect amount of tangy-ness. I recommend if going for a quick, tasty dinner. read more
