Please don't use this company. The opener system I purchased required two trips to install, and they only told me the final cost of the replacement rollers after they were installed. They knew I was installing a wall mount vs. a ceiling mount, refused to run a line, and left the garage opening button at the rear of the garage. They overcharged me for the new rollers. 299.00, and you can buy the same rollers on Amazon for 28.00. They only told me the cost of the rollers after the installation. The installers did not install the light fixture, which caused the MY Q app to malfunction. One is to hope when you hire a professional company that you would. I am going to tell everyone I know not to use this company. read more

I'm not sure where to begin with this review. If it were based simply on service then this would be a 5 star review. I've used A1 Affordable twice now for repairs. HOWEVER: today I had a spring break on my garage door. I called them and they sent the same technician as last time to fix it. Nice guy, good service, etc etc. The issue is that I only had ONE spring that was broken, but their company policy is to replace BOTH springs. In other words, I was told to either fix both or fix none and leave my garage door open and exposed until I could find another company. They basically held me financially hostage. One spring would have been about $400 to replace, but since their company policy is to replace both, it cost me around $800. This doesn't include the $89 service charge just for knocking on my door. In addition to this, they charged me an extra 3.5% for using my card to pay. This is exploitation at it's finest. I'm not sure I will use them again. read more

Plano Overhead Garage Door Repair came out and said that they don't work on Pella garage doors and that our door would need to be replaced. Instead we looked up certified Pella garage door technicians. A1 Affordable was one of the local companies that the manufacturer gave us. When we called, Sara was friendly and helpful on the phone so we decided to schedule an appointment. Then they called again 15 min before the appointment to advise that a tech was on the way. Dakota showed up on time and in 20 minutes and $159 later our garage was working again as good as new. He even programmed a remote and stapled the garage door sensor wire back to the ceiling with a staple gun. 5 Stars for great customer service and a professional job. Wish all our vendor interactions were this good. read more

Our issue was understated by me in my call for service. Our 23 year old "builder grade" door was badly deteriorated in critical areas. Line through the REVIEWS that complain about AFFORDABLE. I learned a long time ago, "Buy cheap, but twice." I was guided the right fit for our need and budget. Our door was in stock. The install was done efficiently and to my satisfaction within 3 hours. Their communication throughout the process was exceptional. I do believe that attention to DETAIL and customer concern is their ethos. In 2019 A1 installed two HIGH dollar double cider doors at a home I bought in 2020. Mar 2021 one of the doors came off where it was attached. The A1 installers attached the metal framing to a 2x4 that was only attached to the house with 3 eight penny nails (just enough to hold the 2x4 in place). The A1 installers attached the metal framing with 1 1/2 inch lag bolts that only went through the 2x4 and about 1/4 inch of the drywall. You can see from the photo why the door fell off the wall because the A1 installers didn't even have the door frames secured to the house framing. I made them use 4" lags this time to insure the heavy 440 lb doors stayed in place. Why one star, because they charged me over $650 to finally do it right. Don't use this company if you want it done right the first time. read more

My wife and I experienced a broken spring on our garage door on a Sunday that would not allow us to open the door and pull our cars outside. We needed to get a company to come out that day and replace the springs. We called A1 Affordable Garage Doors in Plano and Kris was very helpful asking the right questions and giving us a quote to to do the job on a Sunday. I came home from work and my garage door stopped opening near the top. What would most of us do? I pressed the button again, the door started coming down until it jerked to a stop about half way down. Lesson 1: If your door is stuck opening or closing...check what happened first instead of pressing the button again, I think I made it worse. The cable one side that is attached to the torsion spring came off the spool and was now wrapped around the bar the spring is on - probably exacerbated by me trying to close and open the door again. I figured no big deal, if I push that side up I could give the cable some slack and try and feed the cable back into the spool. Seemed to be going ok until one of the rollers on the opposite side came off the rail. I decided it was time to to take to the internets for help and basically every DIY site advised against messing with the torsion spring yourself as it could severely injure you if something goes wrong. That's lesson 2: finding a good place to stop and call for help before you make it worse or hurt yourself. I called A1 Affordable and spoke to Crystal who was very polite and helpful, she informed me that she could have someone out to look at it within 60-90 minutes. She also informed me that the technician would come and evaluate the situation, and then tell me how much it would cost. No fee for coming out, and if I didn't want him to fix it there would still be no charge for him to come out. She called me back in 40 minutes telling me her technician was on his way and would be there shortly. Kevin, the technician, arrived in another 15-20 minutes and took a look, told me what was wrong, and how much it could cost to fix it. I told him to go ahead. He was very professional and seemed to know exactly what he was doing (as he said he had done this many many times). He even took the time to explain everything to me in detail and answer all my "I'm a n00b homeowner" questions. He put the roller back on the track and the cable back in the spool. Reset the torsion spring, tightened everything on the door, and even made sure to tighten everything on the garage door opener itself. Then he sprayed lubricant on everything and gave me some general advise about routine/monthly/quarterly maintenance I can do myself to ensure the door continued to work properly. If everyone who worked here is as good as the 2 people I dealt with last night, I'd recommend this company to anyone. First house and first time I've had trouble with my garage door so I have no real basis for comparison, all I can say is that if I have problems (that I can't fix myself) with my garage door in the future - I'll be giving these guys another ring. read more

My Viking Gate Opener broke. Called A1 Garage Door Services and they sent 2-repair technicians out on our agreed day. The office kept me appraised of when they left their last service call and when to expect them. I appreciated this. I showed them the issue, and pointed to a broken part which was a view pulley that broke so the chain was not sliding along it. Their write up shows a very complicated list of things they did not do. I was watching the entire time. Cost $99 for service call- just to drive to my home. Okay. Part was $115. Over priced, but Okay Asked technician how long to repair. he said 20-30 minutes. For their 20 minutes of work I was charged an additional $249 for a total of $463 for less than an hour of work. Not for nothing...but that seems like highway robbery to me. I asked technician how he can justify $348 for less than an hour work, he told me he was certified. From past experience I'm used to the service call fee $99 to be subtracted not in addition to, or if you go over the first hour to pay more. I called the office to discuss spoke with Cary who told me Kevin was the owner. I asked to speak with him and she told me he's not available. I asked for a call back, never got a call back. I just wanted to better understand how Kevin feels $348 for less than 1-hour of time is justified. Have no problem paying fair prices but feel this was a ripoff. My advice... If you have occasion to use A1 Affordable Garage Door Services, Plano, TX at 972-877-5774 ask a lot of questions initially about their charges otherwise you will be very surprised. The tech was very knowledgeable and even gave me suggestions on how to replace the caster wheels and how to maximize the use of my door opener. I moved into my new home on Saturday and I immediately broke the garage door (the previous owner left the manual lock engaged and I, unaware of this, tried to open the door with the garage door opener from the outside). That did it in. Being new to Texas, I don't know anybody or any companies (yet), so I got on Yelp the next day (Sunday) and found A1 Affordable Garage Door Services. They got good reviews, so I called them. I was surprised to find a human answering the phone on a Sunday, and she was pleasant and helpful. She said she could have someone out within two hours. I was stunned. I was expecting Monday if I was lucky, but I'd planned on hearing they'd be out Tuesday... and best of all, there was no additional charge for a Sunday dispatch! The technician arrived right when I was told, and he was friendly and he explained everything thoroughly. He fixed the problem quickly and made the recommendation of a maintenance item and he disabled the manual lock so that I wouldn't have a repeat performance down the road. Without a doubt the best garage door company out there! We originally met them at the Allen home and garden show. A few days later one of the springs on my garage door broken and being a do it yourself person I headed off to their store to get some new springs. Found out they do not sell the springs directly due to liability concerns (totally understandable) however I started asking question after question and learned quite a bit about garage doors. The staff was very courteous and knowledgeable. It was around 4pm and they sent someone out that same day to fix my door! The tech came out and was awesome. I had used their service twice and both time in an emergency situation. We accidentally backed our car while the garage door was not completely open. The first time we called them it was late evening on a stormy evening. As during the storm they were too busy, but the person who answered the phone was very courteous and assured me that someone will show up the same night. They did at the promised time. We found them through the Google Guaranteed portal, and they were awesome. They had an employee (not a contractor) at my house within an hour of calling. Our door had been installed incorrectly, and it unattached itself from the ceiling, and tore a bunch of hinges and was generally trying to kill me this morning, but within a couple of hours, these guys had it all shipshape and running correctly. I don't know how they can call themselves affordable. I had 4 garage door springs replaced, which took around an hour, and was charged $1120.00. I didn't do any research prior to the repair. Afterward I looked into prices. At the most the parts cost $150.00 for 4 springs. Which means I paid around $1000.00 for an hour labor. The repair man was very nice and seemed to do a good job, but $1000.00 labor is outrageous. Do some research before hiring any company so you don't get taken advantage if like I did. Arrived on time, very polite, work was good (not great). Amount charged was OFF THE CHART HIGH!! The tech was on the job about 45 minutes, used about $50 in material, and charged $384.00!!!!!!!!!!! I commented to the General Manger who said they are worth it. I think not. If you use A1 Affordable, I recommend a second quote or opinion before proceeding. I feel then need to take "Affordable" out of their name. 08/18/14 - Garage Doors still stick, little worse than it was before the repair. 09/03/14 - Kris, if you really cared about customers, you would not have responded to my email with a "form type" answer. If the technician was good he would have diagnosed the problem rather than "pad the bill". I now have to remove the trim installed by A1, correct the problem, and reinstall or replace the trim. I have a problem with the fact the doors stick worse than before the repair. I have never been offered by A-1 to "fix the problem" or "make the proper repair". You did offer to "make an adjustment at no cost". That is not the same as "fixing the problem". If I am misunderstanding you than tell me you will have a technician out to "repair my doors" so they will not stick at no additional cost. I only want one thing, the doors fixed. read more

Reply to the reponse for my review: I also got free estimation and life time warranty for the springs installed in my previous home, and I believe tune up comes with spring replacement without saying. The two springs I installed in previous home required more work because they were installed in two garage doors instead of the two springs installed in one door by A1 "Charge More" Garage Door Services. Another thing, the receipt in my previouse installation clearly shows the part price and labor charge --- for the life time warranty, this is important because warranty doesn't cover labor. A1 "Charge More" Garage Door Services receipt shows only total charge --- this will allow them claim most charge is labor charge when you need the warranty service from them. Be prepared to be charged more than a new installation from others when you use their warranty service! read more

I called them after-hours with the intention to leave a message and was instead greeted by a very polite receptionist who took my information and set an appointment convenient to my schedule. I have used A1 on two occasions for repair, door came off the tracks and the original spring broke(two separate incidents). After the spring was fixed the door was hitting the door frame at the top and making a loud noise. I ignored it for several months and finally decided it need to be looked at after a small crack developed in the wood trim. I called on Mon and they were out on Tues to look at it. A small adjustment, unrelated to the previous repair, was needed and the problem was solved, no charge. They are more concerned about customer service than any other company I've dealt with.
