I won't name the complex, because I am really upset at the decline of the quality of living there over the past 11 months- but basically I asked a bunch of companies to get me estimates for moving on Friday night, and I ended up going with Tote because they sent out an estimator right away, and also the price was reasonable. Luke reached out to me Friday night, and we texted about getting someone over quickly. First thing Monday morning he was in my apartment, COVID aware and safely estimating the cost of my move. They were not the cheapest, but from the professionalism and thoroughness of walking through my entire place- his estimate wasn't that far off from the final bill. Monday I chose to move, they came today. Two days. This morning Tyson and Dexter called me on their way to my apartment to give me a heads up. We walked through the apartment and the clock started around 9:40. Within 2.5 hours they packed up my entire place and loaded it. I had many items already packed and they did an amazing job getting it out of the apartment so quickly and professionally. Literally world class workers. Zak called me and wanted to check in on how things were going. We discussed insurance options, and I let him know I was very pleased with the team they sent out. I moved about 13 miles. On the way here I bought lunch, and we provided drinks as a courtesy since these guys were CRUSHING it today. They were done about 30 minutes after the 5 hour estimate- but that's not a big deal in my book. All in all- they moved a 3 bedroom apartment in 5.5 hours. The unloading was also Championship level because there are three levels in the house and they were accommodating to the places we needed items moved. My parents had several boxes from their move. The movers gladly offered to take them out of the garage and also the boxes of packing paper. It was tremendous, the extra effort they made to make sure we were happy. I can't thank Dexter and Tyson enough. I was VERY happy that my family was happy. I want to give a special thank you to John Magruder, who is the head of operations there. I had one item damaged, and he resolved it about 5 minutes ago personally to my satisfaction. It's 10 PM, and he answered my texts (I was expecting to talk tomorrow, but he was going on vacation and wanted to get this resolved ASAP). Sincerely, a great person to offer to talk tonight and get this completely resolved so he can enjoy his vacation and I can move on with my unpacking and settling in. AWESOME person. Tote handles local and national moving. I am going to recommend this company HIGHLY to anyone that needs a hand with their move. Support small business owners! Let me preface that I hate giving poor reviews to small businesses...I understand that reviews can…read morebe much more important to them than they are to large chains... that being said, moving is typically a high anxiety enterprise and you need to know as much info about who you choose to move with as you can. I also feel that all actions have consequences, some good, some bad...this is the latter. I recently had an out of state move with a full pack that I had set up with Tote Moving & Delivery months prior. I called in frequently to make sure everything was on schedule and was always told by the owner that it was. They called to inform two days prior to the move that they were going to outright cancel the move as they had 2 employees out sick and one other who had a family member pass. I understand that things happen and I can be sympathetic but to have no backup prepared for an out of state move and/or to not even offer to move the date back was unacceptable and put me in a terrible, stressful bind. This ended up costing me thousands of dollars extra to procure a last minute mover. I was also not pleased that I had spoken to the owner all throughout the process but when it came time to give me bad news, that job was given to another of his employees. I asked the owner to contact me and he told me he was too busy covering for the workers that were out. My total move was to be over $8000 and that did not even warrant a personal call back in the owner's eyes? *I will say they did offer to have another company that they had a relationship with try and assist me but when I read reviews of the other company, they were flat out scary. They were rated extremely poorly and many reviews mentioned fraud and theft, so I did not consider using them. That did not even seem like a viable solution based on what my research came back with. If you use Tote, perhaps you will have a better experience...but just know that the potential for the whole thing to fall apart is there, it happened to me.

The guys started packing, owner corrects how they are putting the boxes together and taping. Thought ok we are good. I walked them through the rooms that needed packing, what to pack and what needed to be left alone. Roman left at that point. Asked for 3 hours but since a friend and I had gotten a lot of stuff done that morning I ended up needing them for an hour. They hustled and got stuff packed. That's about the only good thing I can say. First, the way they assembled the boxes was horrible. There was no stability. They didn't have the common sense it took to discard a box that was too beat up or torn to use. They didn't tape many of them on the bottom, instead overlapping the corners in hopes it would stay (Spoiler alert: It didn't). On the ones they did tape, they used a single piece despite the abundance of tape I had available. Man of them were only half assed taped. I told them both to please be careful how they did it because I didn't want boxes collapsing when we picked them up. Both claimed they understood. I had to leave while a friend stayed behind because I had to pick up the moving truck. They got done before I got back. When I got back and saw the job they did I wasn't happy. There's a few pics from it attached. Once again they half assed closed things, barely taping them. Boxes were used that should not have been. They completely ignored what I told them NOT to pack. I literally found a tub of butter in the bottom of a box because it had been sitting on the counter. In a group of things I specifically told them not to pack. A glass bottle of alcohol was in the bottom of a box with a bunch of stuff piled on top of it. Again, something I specifically said not to pack. They literally tossed anything and everything into a box haphazardly. I had a bunch of boxes that weren't even full, just partially full with no rhyme or reason. Mind you, there is limited space in a moving truck and this was an out of state move. Coming back with another truck not really a thing here. So I called, voiced my concerns. Roman was nice, apologized. Said their pay would be docked. Not what I wanted as I think everyone deserves to be paid for their work. But whatever. Honestly I spent the next several hours trying to redo what they had done. So hiring them was a waste of time. While I was trying to tell Roman about the issues I had, he kept trying to push me to use his financial services as well. Seriously?! I'm telling you that your people did a crap job and you're trying to sell something else? What makes you think I would trust you with anything when you can't even teach your people how to pack a box properly? I thought it was done. Then a debit card of mine suddenly started getting used. Or attempting to. This debit card was a card I had not used in more than a year. It was sitting where I usually put my keys etc. it was sitting in a small basket with the things I put in my pockets for work. now, the reason I know this card hadn't been used in a year is because it was the FSA card I got from the previous job, which I had not been at in over a year, so the card was actually inactive with no balance. The first round of charges came in less than 24 hours after they had been in my house. The second round came the day after. They tried using the card more than two dozen times in the end. I called the card company, let them know it had been stolen and made sure they had not had a data breech. They had not. So clearly one of them took a pic of the card, which was laying on top of everything by the end of the day and not where it had been but I dismissed it as them having shuffled stuff around. They tried the card at multiple online merchants. THEN I realized that the CBD oil I had for my dog to help control seizures had also been stolen. I waited until I had unpacked all these boxes before leaving this review because I wanted to make sure they just hadn't done something stupid with it. As they clearly don't know how to pack worth a crap. So for a job that only took an hour, I was charged for 3 hours. Had a debit card stolen. And had the dog's CBD oil stolen. I have not contacted the company since realizing things had been stolen. I don't want another pitch for services I would not hire them for. When I called after I realized how horribly the boxes were packed, I got a story about how hard it is... and it is for small businesses. ESPECIALLY POC businesses, which I like to support. Which is why I had chosen not to say anything... until I realized my card and meds had been stolen. I don't want anyone else to have to deal with this.

Disclaimer: Long, but honest review…read more (Downgraded to 1 star after the response from John. See below. Not worth me being back in touch "to chat". This is the first "apology" and it's not even that. He has made his position clear and I will assume he speaks on behalf of the "company".) This is a small family business, and while I am not satisfied, and will not personally use them again or recommend them, it bears noting because it was one of the reasons I chose them. I read a lot of reviews and compared with larger more commercial companies before choosing Home Run Moving Experts ("HRM"). Either the reviews are lies or AI generated or paid for or we got them on a bad day. Whatever the case, the 5 star experiences I read about were not at all my experience. HRM may be a moving company, but they are not experts or professional movers. They lack the basic business communication skills, efficiency, organization and overall logistical competence required to do this kind of work well. This is the company you hire for a 1-2 bedroom apartment. You do not hire this company for a 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath house. Things did start off well. "John" was prompt, polite and professional at the first meeting and walk through. He wore a shirt with the company logo. He listened to my needs (though, wrote nothing down) and told me he would get back to me with a quote. And he did. I was quoted for a 4-6 hour job with 3 movers and packing (HRM to provide packing supplies). I was very clear that I did not plan to or want to pack the kitchen, but that some things may be started or done before the movers arrived. All was agreed a full month and 10 days prior to the move day. The day before the move I reached out to John to confirm because I had not heard anything from him. I text and got no response then called later in the day and John answered. He confirmed then asked if his team could come at 9 am instead of 7 am. That was agreed. On the morning of the move he text AT 9 am to say they would arrive at 10 am. They arrived after 10 am. John and 2 relatively young men - "Freddie" and "Jose". No one was wearing a company shirt. They had a large Penske truck, boxes, tape, and tools - no mattress covers. John and I walked around the house again so that he could see what needed to be done. Everyone got to work. 5 hours later I asked John to wrap up what they were doing and head over to the new house to unload so we could try to stay within the 6 hour window. I did not know all that had not been done at that point (I tried to upload pictures here and could not. Spoiler alert: the kitchen was not fully packed.) Long story longer, I go back to the old house while my husband helps direct them at the new house. He cuts them loose at about 6:15 pm. At the same time that I am realizing all they didn't get to (kitchen cabinets and drawers, pantry, bedroom closets, laundry room). But, it gets worse. They damaged the dinette table pushing the screws in too far when they put it back together and didn't say a word (also, it did not need to be taken apart) and they took the screws to the dining room table with them (also did not have to be taken apart) and they lost the screws to the dresser mirror (these we never got back or compensated for) for one of my kids' rooms. We spent 3 days chasing John with texts and calls. He was mostly unresponsive or he was vaguely responsive. And I was livid. My husband took over communication. John finally showed up on Sunday, after no show and no call on Friday and Saturday, with the screws. He and my husband agreed that $400 for the table was fair (it was originally $800 and over a year old). John said he would talk to "his brother" and get back to us. The next day he sent $200 via Zelle and would not respond to texts or calls about the other $200. We have not heard from him since. Other fun facts: They used my tape and my boxes in addition to their own so when I had to pack what was left at the old house I had nothing to pack with. We asked them to pack the second refrigerator last so we could clean out the smaller and condense. When we were ready to do that we were told the refrigerator was already on the truck. And the payment did not go to a business or LLC. It went to a personal account. We were communicating with John, but what he was communicating to his team was obviously not the same. Overall, a super fail. I feel quite disrespected and disregarded. But, it is a good lesson. We will always go commercial for movers from now on. And I will share this experience on every platform I can find. Not that I think HRM cares at all. (I was right about this.)
