It only took two days between calling and my appointment which was wonderful! Bethany gave me a great massage, the right pressure and she worked on exactly what I told her was knotted up. I walked out being able to still walk (some places worked me so hard I could hardly walk and felt worse after I left). I told her I didn't really want to chat, and she was fine with that. We ended up chatting anyway, cause I am a talker, and turns out so was she! We knew a lot of people in common and I was very comfortable with her. She gave me a nice break on the price and I would certainly recommend her. The room was lovely, the place was quiet, it was clean and comfortable. NOT PROFESSIONAL. If I had two words to describe this business, it would be those. However, since Yelp allows me many more words, here are a few more. A WASTE OF TIME. Okay, now let me explain. I am a transplant from California and all the well-known pampering and odd beauty treatments, like the Brazilian bikini wax, that we love. Well, apparently the Brazilian wax is an "odd" treatment here in upstate New York because it seems practically no one does it. Well, at least, that's what my Internet searches came up with. So when I found A Touch Above Wellness Spa offered this service, and at a reasonable price, I was ecstatic. It started out nicely enough. I called and booked an appointment for the following Saturday. Being a class of the instant-gratification-generation, I was slightly disappointed that I had to wait because they only book Saturday appointments, but I was pleased I was able to get booked for that Saturday. Saturday comes, and I drag my butt out of bed for my EARLY appointment. Okay, it was at 10:00 a.m., but that's early for me. I print out my directions and am literally taking the exit and am but a 1/2 mile away from the location when I get a call on my cell. It's the manager, I believe Lindsey (?), and she's all apologetic because she has to CANCEL my APPOINTMENT and it's ONLY 15 MINUTES BEFORE . She just found out and the girl who does the Brazilian is their only one and just called out because she was sick. Okay, I get it. It happens, and that's just what I said. Lindsey was nice and offered 50% off my next services. She explained they were training new girls and she would book me again right away once she found out what was going on with her one girl and these others. I wasn't exactly happy, but was PLACATED with the apologies and proffered discount. Then NOTHING. Not a further response, call, or anything. And that was more than three weeks ago. So, based on this initial experience of them canceling when I'm literally a minute away and then never following up as they promised, I say don't let them WASTE YOUR TIME. I've since, found other places that offer the service, and at slightly less. read more

I've been to several massage therapists. The one in particular I tried here gave me a relaxing, glorified backrub. This was the first time a new therapist didn't check in at all about how her pressure or temperature was in the room during the massage so she could adjust accordingly. Yes I could have told her I wanted more pressure, but I get too relaxed to speak, which is nice, but I left with muscle tension still. She did get points for being silent and letting me have my own time instead of trying to have conversation. It was weird she didn't ask me to book again at the end, from a business standpoint, because when I came in I said I get massages regularly and was looking for a new therapist but she didn't try to retain me as a client or ask what I would have liked more of or any type of feedback. If you want to be in and out and have no personal relationship with the person, this is for you. It's on the cheaper side, probably because so many practitioners share the rent space. The walls were kind of thin and you could hear conversations in the hallways. I also learned that I need to ask for lotion instead of oil if I go back because I was sliding all over my floor when I get home on my feet, knees, you name it. Funny image but not practical if you have things to do that day before showering again. The other thing that struck me was none of the covid regulations that my previous practitioners practiced were in effect. I was used to having a bin or place to put clothes that could be easily washed down between people, seat covers that could again be washed, temperature checks, and limited soft things in the room such as rugs and curtains for ease in cleaning. Previous therapists have redecorated to eliminate those things and restructure but basically all there is here is a sign to not come in if you have symptoms, and the therapist says she's vaccinated and asked if you are okay with her mask off. Yes, things are opening up more and there are less regulations but it still seemed very relaxed and I didn't get the impression they did much extra for cleaning. All in all, I think I'll give it another chance with another provider in the office building but was not impressed with the first visit. read more

I have been to this spa before and had a great experience. So I called and booked a facial. I was by far the best experience! I was relaxed the setting was just right the esthetician asked all the right questions. When it was time for payment I was told From my previous Yelp review that I would get a service 50% off. It was never noted in my account. She offered me the deal of the day, so I walked out satisfied I just wish it was noted like how I told it would be. I most definitely be returning here for service due to the professionalism of the staff just wish it was a little more organized so I didn't feel awkward when it came time for payment. read more

This is my first review, only because of my terrific experience I feel compelled to write this. I feel so grateful I came across this spa! I came in and signs directed me to the waiting area when my massage therapist greeted me. I wish I remembered her name... she brought me to a room that was very relaxing. It had soft music playing and candles glowing. She gave me instructions and asked me what kind of work I wanted done. She left the room for me to disrobe and get on the table. She then comes back in and starts the massage, in which my full body was so relaxed I fell asleep. When I woke up, the hour was done and I felt AMAZING! So amazing that I slept for 14 hours from when I got home into the next day! Lol. Thank you magical massage lady! Can't wait to come back! I still feel great!! read more

First prenatal massage I had here was excellent. The pedicure was mediocre (chipped within a week). The second prenatal massage was mediocre, therapist did not massage anything other than back, essentially. It was disappointing. And while the staff is friendly, they need to work on their operations. My first appointment they called two hours before to ask if I could move my appointment up and hour. My second appointment they were having issues with their credit card machine. Not exactly a "zen experience." read more

We booked a couple of the special packages- the stress relief with the facial and added the just feet package. It was supposed to be a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes of pampering. The massage was great- Except it was advertised as having essential oils and a sacrum stone or hot packs- it was missing both of those. It would have certainly been enhanced with essential oils. The facial lasted maybe 10 minutes and then the lady leaves you with a mask on for 10 minutes. It was nothing special. Then the Just feet package was also advertised to have essential oils and a hot stone massage- those were both missing. It also only lasted about 15 minutes when you pay for 30 minutes. So our total time of pampering with being moved between rooms and waiting in between services was maybe 2 hours. This past year was my first Mother's Day, and I was given a certificate for a 60min relaxing massage. The best present ever (take note gentleman). My mom got one too, so we decided to call and schedule it as a couples massage. The ladies we had were very professional and were excellent! I had a similar experience to that of the last post. My husband was coming home from Afghanistan for his 2 week leave and we were going to go on vacation so I booked bikini wax (not Brazilian) for about 5 days before he was due home. I received a phone call that the waxing person had an emergency and wouldn't be back as of the date I was scheduled so they had to move my appointment a day later. The next day the salon calls to say they have to move it another day later because the emergency required the waxing person to be gone a little longer than originally thought. I had no problem with any of this- I try to be accommodating and emergencies happen, no biggie. I was the first appointment of the day and only the waxing person (I cannot remember her name, this was a few months ago) was apparently the only person who is present when the place first opens. She ran late and finally opened the door about 10 minutes late. Again, no biggie.The lady is very chatty and starts talking about the trip she just got back on- her vacation! Um.... so now we cancel appointments because of prolonged vacations? I was not happy with being lied to by whomever called saying she had an emergency, but still, I was already there and needed to get the waxing done. As we start the waxing I repeatedly tell her that the wax is way too hot. Then she starts going over the same areas repeatedly- a HUGE NO-NO! The pain was harsh and I was fighting back tears. I again ask her to turn down the heat and she does but then, as she turns around with the wax she just got out of the bottom of the wax heater (I later saw it was basically on empty so that is why it was so freaking hot) she SPILLS THE WAX ALL OVER MY "PRIVATE PARTS." The wax was all over the place- all over the remaining hair, all over my actual lady parts. EVERYWHERE. By that time I was in enough pain I was done with the visit. She offered to give me basically a Brazilian but I refused, and left with the wax still everywhere. As I left, SHE CHARGED ME! I was in shock but just paid so I could get out quickly. Once I got home I saw that I was totally raw on the areas that she had gone over repeatedly and had to take my husbands beard trimmers to the wax lodged in the remainder of the hair. I had burns that required a weeks worth of medicated treatment (yep, had to actually see my doctor for this embarrassment). Needless to say, I called back to get a refund. Big surprise- the refund never appeared on my bank statement. And by the way, the prices they charge are about twice that the salon I have used since then. Absolute nightmare. read more

My husband and I like the couple's massage here. But I have to say that the place is a little slovenly. The waiting room is messy and not picked up, receptionists are not dressed professionally, the beauticians are lounging on the stairs drinking coffee and gabbing. We got a couples massage today, the staff is so respectful and professional. The building is relaxing right when you walk in especially after driving through Syracuse. We had Nicole and Bethany Jude as our masseuses, they did a phenomenal job. I was kinda tentative getting the massage as it was my first massage ever. I was given a gift certificate to this place and decided to check it out. As you walk into the building, there is a receptionist desk to the very left. It's sort of out of sight and easily missed, but there was a friendly smiling face that greeted me and grabbed my attention. The greeter asked me if I was checking in for my scheduled appointment and I said yes. She made me feel very welcomed and led me up a small set of stairs to a waiting area that was very cozy. There was a fireplace in the waiting area, and I sat comfortably as I filled out some forms she handed me. As I waited I enjoyed a hot tea they had available on a small snack bar. A few minutes later, a younger girl came over and greeted me. Another smiling face! She led me up a staircase to the second floor of the spa and into a room that was very comfortable. There was little tea light candles that had lit the way in the hallway up, and made it feel very peaceful. The room felt very relaxed and she instructed me how to prepare for the massage. The massage was so wonderful. Definitely one of the best I have ever received... And I have had quite a few along the way. I fell asleep towards the end! Next part of my visit entailed a Facial. After I changed into the robe they gave me, my therapist took me back through the candle lit hallway to another room. The esthetician greeted me and after a quick change, we got started. The Facial was so relaxing, I fell asleep again. It's so not like me! As the facial ended I touched my skin, and it felt so soft! (And my skin STILL feels great as I write this review) I then changed into the clothes I came in with, and the esthetician led me back down the stairs and she led me into a footsoak room. They had foot spa tubs prepared for me, as well as fresh fruit and chocolate! I was blown away with how hospitable and accommodating the service here was! I could have stayed at the spa forever! Lol. When I left I didn't make a second appointment only because I wasn't sure of my schedule. But- I will definitely be back. Very unprofessional and rude. First off, I called last week to schedule and appt and no one ever called me back. Called again today, the person answers "hello"... it threw me off since most businesses have a professional telephone greeting. I say I'm trying to reach A Touch Above, the person responds snotty, "This is". No "how can I help you" nothing. I say I'm trying to schedule an appt for a Double Take Deal that unfortunately is expiring 6/1 that I misplaced. The only 2 appts they have I can't make so I ask if the paid value can be applied to something else because the certificate states that the Promotional value expires on 06/01/14 but the paid value expires on 06/01/19. This person tells me that what is on the certificate means nothing and that when it expires it expires. Then continues on to mother me saying, "You've had how many months to use it and didn't..." Even though I explained that I had misplaced it and forgotten I even had it. My biggest issue is that I didn't need to be treated that way and if you are going to be a snot, don't answer the phone. My second, is what horrible customer service. A company that cares about its image and customer view would have done something to try to meet me half way. Instead they just took the money and ran. The ratings speak volumes for this place. Never have I ever witnessed a so-called professional hide the alarm clock , to get out early. Excellent , management! But don't expect a refund of your money from this place. It's atrocious. I would be ashamed to even be associated to this place . They will make the changes to cover themselves via webite, but have zero customer service. Disgusted . Especially because I had been there so many times before. I wish I never stepped foot in there. Unlike the last two posts, my experience at A Touch Above Wellness Spa was not unpleasant at all. Besides waiting a little longer than I expected (in a cozy room with a fireplace, as well as Keurig coffee and teas-my favorite), I found my time there to be worthwhile and enjoyable. I visited this establishment after purchasing a groupon for a skin tightening treatment, and was able to see and feel results immediately after. When the owner came in to assist the aesthetician with my treatment, my first assumption was that I was going to be pressured into purchasing a pricey package to "truly see any real results." She did nothing of the sort. She was kind and professional, and merely explained to me what I could expect, what the procedure would feel like, and what the benefits were for my skin type. No hassling, no annoyance that I was there only because I wanted a good deal on an otherwise expensive beauty method...just happy to have me it seemed. The treatment was painless, and did not irritate my skin whatsoever. I am going to be getting married in September, and because of the positive effects I have seen from only one treatment, I plan on buying 3 more...without any pressure whatsoever. I will be returning to A Touch Above Wellness Salon in the very near future. :) read more

I'm a bigger girl and I think anyone is intimidated by the idea of a brazilian wax, but being a bigger girl I VERY self conscious about being nude from the waste down in front of a total stranger. The woman currently doing waxing at A Touch Above is fantastic. I would recommend her to anyone I know considering getting a wax. She takes the time to explain to you what she's doing every step of the way and moves quickly and efficiently. She's very professional and leaves me with minimal pain. My only complaint is the times I have gone to see her she's almost always late from a prior appointment, this is understandable because I know how long my appointment takes, but its still frustrating. My only suggestion would be to bring a book :) read more
