Called this company on 6/13/26 for a weekend AC repair since my regular HVAC company doesn't work Saturdays. AC repair itself was fine, but the technician then insisted on a "safety inspection" of my furnace (installed 2013), scoped the heat exchanger, and claimed he found pinholes and a crack. He shut off the gas, placed a "repairs needed" red tag on the unit, and immediately pivoted to a sales pitch for a full furnace/AC replacement, including financing rates. He also said he was required to report the finding to a state gas regulator -- not accurate for Oregon. Unconvinced, I had Deluxe Heating & Cooling (the company that originally installed my furnace) come out the following week for a second opinion. Their borescope inspection found zero pinholes and zero cracks. A flame displacement test and combustion analysis also came back completely clean. I'm filing complaints with the BBB and the Oregon Construction Contractors Board (CCB). If you use this company for a diagnostic, I'd strongly recommend getting a second opinion before authorizing any major repair or replacement work. read more

Called them for a furnace tune up. The technician showed up at the door with barely a smile followed by " where's the furnace"? OK, maybe he was having a bad day. An hour later after working on our 25 plus year old furnace, what a change came over him! All smiling and chatty, sharing stories about his family, health etc. Well this cheeriness was all about that old furnace downstairs. And the commission I suspect the company pays if his aggressive sales pitch​ for a new furnace prompts my call for an estimate. Aggressive sales pitch I did get along with a red tag on the furnace. Apparently there was a small leak in the heat converter but no carbon monoxide was detected. He informed me that he had to turn the gas off due to this finding but I could turn it back on myself. Fine. Towards evening I turned the gas back on but no heat. He'd flipped off both the main power and a switch for the blower located by removing the cover to the burner compartment. Turned on thermostat. Still no heat. ​ I called A Temp customer service and told them the problem. The guy said nope...we can't come fix it because you have a red tag. I start losing it and he puts me on hold. After consulting with someone he says he can send an estimator out the next day for a bid on the repair work. Now I really lose it. I get put on hold again. Now I'm finally offered a tech in the morning for repair. By the way, the night temp was in the mid 30s. Next morning the tech shows up and quickly finds the problem. Wiring to the blower had been disconnected. The wire was hanging conspicuously in the air....something that couldn't possibly have happened by accident. Wow. It's hard to imagine the ethics of someone who tampers with your property and leaves you in the cold that night. I noticed several nice reviews citing "oh its a wonderful family owned business"...well, the Mafia is a family business too. read more

Technician came for regular service, checked furnace (5 years old) and a/c unit. He forgot to plug in the power bar when he was done so I had to figure out the issue after he left. And he suggested we needed a furnace upgrade and a different sized a/c unit. Had to remind him they had replaced our a/c unit recently and the furnace was fine. They charge almost $200 to give you an estimate for electrical work, even when it could easily be calculated if given pertinent details (15 electrical fixtures to replace, 1970 home, 4 light switches, 4 outlets). This can only be to obligate you to any number they pick for the estimate. I decided not to proceed with an estimate and went with a different electrician who provides the industry standard - free estimates that don't essentially obligate you to pick them regardless of the quality of their estimate. read more

We have used A-Temp for heating and cooling for years and have absolutely no complaints. We are on the semi-annual service program For both AC and furnace.. They call and set up the appointment and show up on time. It is well worth the money to know we shouldn't have any issues. But if we do, No charge for labor or parts. All of the technicians have been thorough, knowledgeable and pleasant. One of the things I appreciate is not having to "talk" to an automated AI or robot (I hate those things). read more

During a yearly furnace check up their tech "red tagged" my furnace, they said it had a crack in the combustion chamber. That meant the furnace couldn't be used. He setup an appointment for someone to come out and give an estimate on a new furnace. Luckily it was the end of the heating season so I didn't need to jump on it, but I got their estimate. I got more estimates and went with a company other than A-Temp for a new furnace. A-Temp's estimate was by far the highest. During the new furnace install I asked the installer to show me the crack in the old furnace, there was no crack. I would have been far more upset than I was because it was 25 year old furnace and it wasn't running very well anyway, but a cautionary tale for others about A-Temp "red tagging" their furnace. Get another company to verify it or better yet don't have A-Temp check it in the first place. read more

However, we did not receive any reminders of appointment and/or confirmation of appointment by A-Temp back office team and were surprised by Berch's visit first thing in the morning. Female customer representative was a bit rude and adamant they had done their jobs. Never saw message, text and/or vMail from a-temp. We will re-evaluate our annual contract going forward. read more

RIP OFF- Contacted A-Temp because they serviced my A/C in 2019. When making the appointment they acknowledged my past repairs and stated that it would be $189.00 to come out. Tech arrived and went to work. He found that the refrigerant charge was low, but because it was R-22 refrigerant he couldn't recharge. He stated that R-22 was being phased out over time and A-Temp will no longer charge. R-22 is still readily available from any HVAC supply house in Portland. A-Temp should have stated that they would not service an older A/C unit that requires R-22 up front when making the appointment. Contacted another well-known Portland HVAC repair company and they had no problem servicing my A/C. read more

Our furnace was old, we knew it, but were giving it care to keep it working as long as possible. During a regularly scheduled maintenance appointment, the tech stated he found a small breech that would mean it would need to be replaced. Not exactly surprised at this news, but confused the tech quoted the unit as being seven years older than it actually was. Set up an appointment to get information about a new unit the next day. When the tech left, he gave me instructions about how to restart the unit as he was not able to do it himself since he found the leak (basically flip the breaker switch he said). After he leaves, we are unable to restart the furnace. I contact the company, they give suggestions, unit still won't work. It is winter and we are cold. We have another company come out to give us aid and they let us know that A-Temp actually disconnected wires and red tagged the unit so it would not be functional. Why lie to us??? We got several bids for new equipment and the A-Temp salesperson was very pushy, wanted a decision on the spot. However, as the bid was over $10,000 more than any other company and our poor experience with their dishonesty, we went with another business. Watch out for this crew! read more

I had an appointment with an A-TEMP salesman to come out and give me a bid to replace a 20-year old furnace. Mico arrived at my door promptly and made small talk with my family, even introducing himself to my young children. Took him down to look at the furnace and told him that we had a company diagnose an issue and provide bids for repairing the unit, and replacing it in whole. Repairing the 20-year old unit turned out to be cost prohibitive; now we are collecting bids for replacement. In response, salesman says, "Well, I will not be shopped. I have been doing this for five years and if I am here, it will be to get a yes or a no. Otherwise, what am I doing here?" Perplexed, I replied, "Great, then I guess we are done." I escorted him upstairs and we said our goodbyes. I called and notified A-TEMP that one of their salesman is apparently averse to providing bids for jobs and that I will not be using their service again. It was one of the poorest customer service experiences I have ever had. What a terrible way to do business. I would recommend not contacting them for your heating, cooling, or electrical needs. read more

One star is a whole star more than deserved. In 2014 they installed a furnace in my home using a sealant not approved for indoor use. Why am I still sharing reviews a decade later? Because the exposure they caused gave me chemical skin damage and permanent painful immune responses that I will deal with for the rest of my life, not to mention the neurological damage the exposure caused my dog that my vet said led to her early death. Every time I see their commercials or see their vans around town I have a repeated reminders of the changes they've caused in my life, the money I've spent trying to diagnose and treat what seems to be permanent. I am reminded how they belittled me, and refused to work with me even though they admitted all the things they did wrong. Yes I did sue, it went to mediation, they said since I've always had hay fever (nothing like the immune responses and sickness I have since the poisoning) I couldn't prove my reactions were due to the direct indoor exposure they caused by installing my furnace with Vulkem 116. I am lucky I didn't heat the house a couple more degrees to where it would have likely become volatile, but also incredibly sad and regretful that I trusted this careless company who changed my life, wellness and future. I think we got really lucky with ATemp. I meant to call the folks who installed our furnace, but for some reason, the penguin stuck in my head, and I called Atemp instead. Turns out the penguin is named Tux. We were sent Philiop the first time we had a problem with our furnace. It turned out really lucky, because we have a Trane unit, and Philip used to be a Trane tech. I guess they're a persnickety sort of furnace/heat pump, so a lot of techs won't work on them. So we lucked out. Philip was extremely thorough, and a great, personable human being. My wife and I liked him enough to request him back when the AC unit went on the fritz and he spent a lot of time trying ot dignose the problem. In the end, since the problem wasn't clear, he gave us detailed instructions on how to monitor for problems, potential things we could do to help allieviate the problem (AC unable to keep up), and told us to call and ask for him specifically once we'd gathered data, and he'd be happy to do all he could. Then we moved into September, temps dropped, and everything's fine. Go figure. So unlike a lot of folks, we've had a good experience, even if it didn't result in a fixed heat pump/AC unit, and we always ask for Philip. read more

These guys are crooks. They charge $185 to perform a diagnostic and say that the only additional cost to repair any issues found will be the cost of the parts. However, they tried to charge me over $300 for a $20 part and said they won't install the part unless I purchase it from them at that insanely overinflated price. read more

Ten years ago, A-Temp replaced my failing furnace. The New furnace is very quiet and has significantly lower operating cost while keeping the house warmer in the winter. The A-Temp crew did a great job. The installation is neat and orderly. And they left my garage cleaner than they found it. But, at the time, I decided not to include air conditioning. Since then, A-Temp has come once-per-year to perform preventative maintenance. They always arrive on-time, do a through job, and leave the area clean. I'm glad to have this important equipment kept in good order. After this last summer, I decided to add air conditioning. This 26 year old house has never had AC and I've made do just fine without it. But this last summer was too much. I knew what to do: Call A-Temp. The salesman came on Friday. The crew came on Monday. And they did a typical A-Temp job, throughly competent, entirely professional. The AC selected is the correct York unit to go with my York furnace so they work together perfectly. I was surprised when I recognized the salesman who sold me the AC. He's the same gentleman who sold me that furnace ten years ago and he's still with A-Temp today. That speaks volumes about A-Temp as an employer and a business. The lead installer is also a long-term A-Temp employee. His assistant is a recent trade school graduate starting out. Everyone was clean, polite, and considerate. It's really a pleasure to work with them. And the new AC? Well it's amazing. It's so quiet. It's the latest and most-efficient technology available. Add on my new air cleaner, and this house is now comfortable year-round. A few days after my installation, the building inspector came to check everything over. As he arrived, he looked at his paperwork and said, " A-Temp job? I never find anything wrong on their work." Remember, this gentleman sees a dozen or two installations every day from every contractor in the area. So that's high praise. As expected, no problems found. Of course, A-Temp will be coming by annually to keep everything running in like-new condition for years to come. We've been using A-Temp for about a decade. Found their yearly program with free inspection and it's been great. Last year they found a crack in our furnace and had to red tag it. No heat. I can tell you that is a lot to absorb, but it's part of life. The heater we had was low end, 18 years old and LOUD. We knew when we bought the house we'd have to deal with the heater eventually, if not sooner. Our tech was very professional. I am certain telling people you're locking out their only safe means to heat their home isn't the best part of the job. We went over our options and within days we had a new heat pump and added AC to our system. They ran the power, lines etc, and it's super quiet, costs us less electricity and we got rid of the window AC units and chasing heat. Really great deal. Life comes at you fast, and it's always more expensive than you'd like, but, if you look for the good you will find it. Thanks A-Temp. You made a difficult time easier, and likely saved our lives at the same time. I can't thank you enough. The yearly inspections make a difference. I have nothing to say but good things about A-Temp. I've had them install a new water heater, perform regular furnace maintenance and install AC. I also am part of their "Comfort Club". Every repair person we have had come by has been courteous, professional and fast. Have not found any of the prices out of alignment with competitors - I priced out the AC install and unit with two other installers with very little difference. I get that one bad experience during the spells we now have each winter in Portland can lead to poor reviews and perception. But IMO A-Temp customer service has been top notch throughout my years of dealing with them. read more

Expedient, Professional, Courteous. My only complaint? Exploded cost! A simple repair cost me a service call, which is expected, but then charges for roughly 10 times the actual cost of each part installed, on top of the service call. I didn't realize it of course until after I had a chance to look up the cost of the parts on my own that the very friendly tech explained he actually replaced. I suppose this is common for the industry, but I do feel taken advantage of. It's the middle of summer, and no AC. I can either accept it without having the chance to research, or shop around for something better. Didn't make much sense, and I'm sure that's what these guys expect, and why they get away with it. On the receipt (that I don't see until a day later after it is emailed to me), there is no itemization of the parts or the costs. A little slick, in my opinion, as I expected there to be an itemization of the labor cost, and the cost of each part. There is none on the receipt. It is what it is, I guess. I appreciate the fast service. But I don't appreciate their over-aggressive pricing policy. I think when it comes time to replacing the units, I'll get plenty of estimates. We've had A-Temp out 3 different times. Once for a water heater in 2016. Quick, painless, affordable. Great service. So, who did we call when we needed service on our gas heater? A-Temp. The heater was about 23 years old, and it came with the house when we bought it. Off brand, nothing special. But, today, you can't usually replace the heater without being forced to replace the AC unit. So, we agreed to the install. Cost 10K and took 2 days. During this, the kids installing it couldn't figure out where a cable/hose/line combination was originating from to replace it, so, without permission or telling anyone, they decided to jackhammer drill a new rough hole in our garage cement foundation, into the crawlspace. We had to tolerate that noise for over an hour. Not only that, but they left the old piping/line/wire under the house, and didn't tell us that either. But hey, everything worked. They came back the next year for the annual inspection, and all seemed to be ok - always pushing their comfort plan to save money down the road. Fast forward 3 years and we wanted them to re-connect or replace some ductwork under the house. A couple of the ducts had come undone. We were told we would get a quote and they would show us pictures of what needed to be done. Few days after they left, we hadn't received anything. First phone call and we were told they didn't have our emails. Gave them the email, and the quote that was sent showed all 3 of our phone numbers and both emails..... no pictures, but another call and we received the quote. It said that two of our 20+ foot ducts needed to be replaced as they were worn and had come undone. Total would just over $4,000. I've been in the crawlspace, this couldn't be THAT hard... so I called, texted, got onto chat, used their contact sign up sheet, spent days trying to get someone to tell me what the $4,000 consisted of - finally, got them through facebook, where the marketing person responded and had the Service Manager, Lee, call me back. He explained to me that they have a flat rate price of about $2,000 per duct that they book regardless of how much time it takes, because every house is different. Personally, I think it's ridiculous that they charge it that way. The fact that we had to chase them down for two weeks to get this information, like it's a big secret that no one we spoke to knows about. Not marketing, not the installers, not customer service. We asked for someone to call, email, text.... could have saved a lot of time waiting. I don't hate them, and for the most part, they do decent work, but they really really need to work on their communication. I'm still mad at the hole in my foundation. That was absurd. Best advice I can give you is to shop around and find someone you like. read more

A-TEMP Heating, Cooling, and Electrical - And we got a sign! - Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC Near Me - Clackamas, Oregon

I have used another company for many years because it's just the one that my parents used. Recently I saw system tuneups on a friend's page and I asked what they were doing, he said that just like a cars carburetor, as they age they sometimes need adjustments to keep the system as functional as it should be and told me about ATemp. I have been having trouble breathing inside my house over the past couple of years and didn't know what was causing it... So I call, set an appointment, and Brian shows up, takes my system apart like I've never seen, sends a color scope up inside my exchanger and he and I are looking at rust holes, and delamination in the walls, part's almost looked like wet corrugated cardboard while other parts of the same wall looked normal, and rust stains running down the walls. I asked about replacing the exchanger, so he calls my other company on speaker phone and asks them, they tell him with the remaining balance of the warranty it would cost me 2300... Okay, so then he shows me my burners, they look rusty and have had plenty of water dripping off of them. That's more money, then we go to my heat pump, which I just had filled in August, it's bone dry... I have a much larger leak than my other company let on. I chose to go with a new system with a warranty... that was yesterday, today they are here installing my new system. Could I afford it right now, no, but I don't want to be uncomfortable in my own home either (lung problems from leaking gasses) and ac during the summer. They have a very nice payment plan that is reasonable. If you suspect that your system isn't working correctly call ATemp and ask for a system check, you won't be sorry. read more

This was the most unprofessional experience that I have had trying to obtain an estimate. The gentleman showed up on time, which is where the positive experience ends. He proceeded to tell me how lucky I am to live where I do and that I should be grateful to whoever helped get me in my home. I even let that misogyny pass.... He then began picking up and touching my personal belongings and making jokes about them. Seriously. Finally, he went to look at the furnace and without asking a single question or taking a single measurement said the job would run at least $25k. I couldn't hold my laugh in when he spouted that non sense, as this was at least 2x what should be the cost. This clearly upset him... He said that people like me often get sticker shock. After I pushed back on the absurdity of his claim, he continued to defend it. So I asked him to write up his proposal and then he said that he wouldn't allow his men to do a job in my house, regardless of cost, and refused to write an estimate. Keep in mind, he didn't do any digging in my house just a 5 second glance at a furnance. At this point I asked him to leave and thanked him for the wasted time. I went on to get two other estimates from reputable companies. Guess what, they came in less than 50% of what A-temp spouted. It's almost like I had a clue and this guy was out to scam. Shocked there are good reviews here. First off the purposely confuse a repair with a diagnosis and then they offer to fix the furnace for $1000 when the price for the item is $100 on Amazon. This has to be some of the worst service I have ever had. I was made to feel like an idiot for not spending $1000. Give me a break, I'm lazy not an idiot. Let this be a warning during COVID when no employees are to be had and most companies take a few days to come out or a week. First of all they charge $189 to come out. My furnace stopped blowing warm air and so I called A-temp. The technician said I need a whole new furnace that costs around $7,000. I had another company come out to get a second opinion or to find out how much their furnace cost. Instead they got it running, it had something to do with the gas valve. They didn't even charge me anything. A few weeks later, it stopped blowing warm air again, the tech came out and did something to the gas valve which eventually will need to be replaced. Again, didn't charge me anything. Basically, I didn't need a whole new furnace which A-temp said that I do. A-temp tried to pull a fast one on me saying I need a whole new furnace. DO NOT USE A-TEMP. Instead, use Cornel's Heating and plumbing, they seem to be honest and reasonable. read more

My furnace broke (draft motor was running and no heat), so I called the guys, they came in tested it, found no issues charged me $170 for diagnostics and left. Well the furnace is keep having the same problem, so I called them again, and they said that since it's been three weeks they would have to send a technician and do another diagnostic for $170, or I can replace my entire unit then they can wave it. So no warranty on the work they have done, the issue is not fixed and instead of performing the repairs they are trying to push 10K worth of new equipment read more

I contacted a temp through the Internet per their request on their ad. It's about 16° outside and my furnace stopped working. I left the request for an appointment early on Sunday morning. It's Monday night and I've still not heard from them. I'm sure they're busy but they're ad very clearly says they'll get back to me right away which they never bothered to do. Don't use this service. You're better off not doing anything and being cold. horrible service, horrible company. Rating of one is a gift for them, don't use them in any circumstance. read more

HVAC went out so i called the business that has substantial reviews. They were able to come out within a few days. Charged a lot more than the other businesses to come out ($170) so i thought it was worth it. They said the tech that comes out has everything in their vehicle to repair the system the same day. When he came out on Friday, he did all the tests to make sure its still safe and said the inducer motor went out and that he would have to order it. This would also be a $1000 plus cost of parts to fix and I might want to buy a new furnace. When he called the vendor, he said their system was down and would try next Monday. So I waited, and when i didn't hear back from him I called. They said they were still looking into it and would call later. A few days later i still didn't hear and called them again. AGAIN they said they weren't sure and were looking into it. I finally called the vendor myself and they said their system wasn't down and they couldn't sell me the part unless I was a business. I finally found the part locally and was able to replace the motor myself only costing me $150. A-Temp has finally called me back 4 weeks later wanting to schedule an appointment. Great service guys. I gave 2* because they were the fastest to come take a look at it. read more

My third experience using A-Temp for the summer basic first aid for my heat pump was superb. Billy earns an A++ for extraordinary customer service! Arriving with protective booties and ready to take on the job with a positive attitude and authentic enthusiasm was a welcomed experience. With each indoor visit, he slipped into the booties from his back pocket. He accomplished the assigned tasks while removing several rusted screws with shiny galvanized replacements with a smile. Billy explained two setting that will require installation for improved efficiency. I am selling my home this fall and will use this example for the new owners of a worthy company and purchase; we can negotiate the expenses. Working with a true professional, with old-fashion manners and professional skills is worth gold in my opinion. These guys are awesome! Their technicians are honest and hard working. They try to help you get up and running again with as little disruption as possible. I unfortunately had to replace my furnace and AC and they made it somewhat painless - at least as painless as that replacement could be. We also participate in their annual maintenance program which makes taking care of filter changes, system cleanings and recharging very much more affordable. Any time you might need something, if you're part of that program they discount home visits and parts. I highly recommend them to anyone who might need help, especially when it's really miserably cold outside and your furnace has decided to take a break, because they definitely jump in to help as quickly as they can, any day of the week, without extra charge for weekend work. Today I had my ducts cleaned as a completion of the furnace project. Joshua M was my technician. He took his time to tell me very clearly what he'd be doing and how long it would take. He was careful when removing covers to protect paint finishes etc., and he joked needlessly at the end of the job that his goal was always to leave a house cleaner than it was when he arrived. I can tell you that he was true to his goal. All around a great experience. Feels good to get the dust, pet hair, and lots of icky stuff out of our ducts! read more
