Customer service was excellent at the sales level - at least until they get your money - after that, they could care less. They definitely don't take pride in their work, are slow to deliver, and under-deliver compared to their inflated guarantees (not promises). They say they stand by their work and offer a lifetime guarantee on their work - the thing is they don't - first service call we had took a month and half to schedule then two guys showed up, spend five minutes in the house - said they didn't see a problem and left. I got a bill for an hour service call a week or so later in the mail. This is one of the exceptions to the rule "You get what you pay for." With Technology by Design you'll pay an arm and leg for next to nothing to show for the end result. Stay away and use one of the other local stores for your home automation, security, networking, and/or audio/video needs.

They called the next day with a quote of $18,000-$20000 just to get it online to halfway work. After sticker shock I called another audio company and they were at my house less than an hour and had it all online and working. The cost was $200 plus tax and no new parts. A long ways from $18,000 Another interesting thing is this reference company said the same thing to the previous owners. Everyone, please get a second option.

Evidently the issue was with Mid-American and not Tesdell Electric. Tesdell decided not to charge me for the service call after all. In the end, Tesdell proved that they are an honorable company. I needed a 50-year old dial combination safe opened. After calling a few places that advertised…read moresafe cracking, I finally found Strauss/SEI and they said they could do the job. A few days after dropping off the safe, the gentleman I was working with, Dan, said he had tracked down the company that bought out the original manufacturer, and they could get me the combination if I jumped through a few minor hoops and sent them a form (and some cash!). I got the combination a few days later and went to Strauss to try it out. At least 4 of us tried to get it open, to no avail, but it was great that Dan hunted down this option and offered it up. So, we had to go back to the safe-cracking route. It took a few days for the technician to get to my safe and another one, but he was able to get it open. They don't open the door, just get the lock to release the mechanism and have you come in to get it. I picked up the safe and got my items out. Dan was even nice enough to help me with disposal options for the now unusable safe. Pricing was very reasonable, and service was excellent. Highly recommended!
