The restaurant is in the middle of town within a few blocks to the main town square. The menu has pictures of the nunnery attire, maybe how they brewed their own beer? They only had it in Dutch, no English menu. Food: 3/5. Bland food, which is not uncommon for Flemish cuisine, but meat was also quite tough. We tried the 2 most popular dishes, Brochette Oud Clooster, and Rundsstoverij met Westmalle Dubbel, and were not impressed. Both bland. The brochette was supposed to be medium rare but came out well done. Dry and tough. The dipping sauce has a hint of curry but wasn't enough to carry the whole dish. The stew has a yummy base, I could pick out the beer flavors (Belgians truly have the best beers in the world). Meat pieces were tough, which is a shame given this is a stew. They should have use a fattier cut of beef like chuck. Meme Gusta has a similar but much more flavorful Flemish stew. The no-bake cheese cake was light and refreshing. Good for 1 person, small to share between 2. Service: 2/5. They had no English menu. At this point I have come to Belgium enough to pick out a few familiar terms, but I would have liked to be able to see what other dishes they had. Had to aggressively flag down waiter whenever we needed something. they also charge €1.80 for tap water. This place is popular enough even for locals that one can't get in without reservations. We were told they only have 2 slots: 6-8 or 8-10. We picked the earlier one. The restaurant was only half full until about 7.

wow, what is there to not like about this place…read more first, let me tell you their service is exceptional and very friendly to tourists which is hard to get sometimes in the area. we put our name down an hr before our requested time and they were very accommodating to save us the table. we originally came for the famous moules frites. found out it was all sold out for the night and we were very disappointed. we still decided to stay and try Georges4 due to the glowing reviews. thankfully, we were not let down twice! my bf and i ended up ordering just a bowl of fish soup and the waterzooi which is a specialty at Georges. i've had waterzooi previously in Boston and wouldn't say i was a fan.. but wow, Georges' waterzooi definitely changed my impression on the dish entirely! the bowl came with 3-4 types of fish fillet accompanied by other small sea critters like baby shrimps and musles. the dish delivered such a fragrant ocean breeze and the flavors were spot on! the fish were not overcooked and simply to perfection! the fish soup was very delicious too! a little pricey but really worth it to try! it will set your benchmark for fish soup very high for future bowls lol overall, i would recommend georges IV if you're in gent! the seafood is super fresh! tip for travelers: they offer free wifi!

The contention in the furniture and the warm intimate lighting make it friendly and cost. EXTRAORDINARY FOOD Soy, chimichurri, vinegar, lemon, basil, 5 spices, salt, this place is a celebration of accuracy in the use and combination of flavors. This is clearly staged in the food, without ever saying it with words. The first aperture is just a tiny ball that melts in your mouth liberating two difficult to combine flavors -the saltiness of soy, with the acidity of a vinaigrette. Their dialogue becomes the entire course. Nothing else is needed, and it is amazing. But then it all starts, as a journey, that takes you to the spectrum of food today. The lamb, the squid or the fennel dessert are just formidable. Adding to this, the service is impecable. The chef is personally taking care of each customer, and that makes the team be happily engaging with everyone in both a respectful and elegant way, and warm. Close to perfection. Don't miss this one.

He was the sous chef there for a number of years. Restaurant Vrijmoed had already received one star within a year of opening. Reserve early because it is not easy to get in. The restaurant was minimalistic but had the charm of the historic building. The elegance and relaxed feeling of the restaurant felt like we were dining at someone's home. We picked a bottle of Jean Javillier Meursault it was modestly priced for the quality. Having visited Meursault after the lunch, we came to learn that this was from a boutique vineyard in Meursault and had a chance to chat with the winemaker. We could not even get a bottle of Meursault from him. So trust the sommelier at the restaurant. We had a beautiful afternoon at the restaurant enjoying a chef tasting menu. Each course was well thought out the use of beautiful striking colors, exotic ingredients and flavors, it was masterful. The first courses were inspired by Asian flavors pickled daikon noodles in a delicious sauce. The green triangular shaped dumpling or ravioli in a green sauce just brought all kinds of curiosity it was so balanced and full of umami flavors. He also made green keropoks to dip in another course. One of my favorites was the mackerel citrus and aubergine it was just sublime. We were treated to the shavings of black truffles on a perfectly prepared chicken dish. Yeah, the meat courses were modest ingredients but with 3 stars execution! The main course was a full size pork chop with sunchoke and red beets. It was the best pork chop I had tasted. Even the palate cleanser had such a twist, a very well executed turnip dish. Chef Vrijmoed is a master of sauces. For each course he prepared a sauce that was balanced, flavorful (from hours of stock reduction) and of vibrant colors. Not heavy and greasy. You should see the size of the kitchen the chefs worked in. Overall it was a really good experience including the service. Highly recommended!

As of November, 2018 the place has been open for two years. The energetic and kind host welcomed us in, and we sat at a pleasant two-top with a view of the boulevard and passers-by. Eggs Benedict was listed as a house specialty, so we gave it a try. At €9, it was a little small (only half the size of a typical Benedict. More aptly named "Egg Benedict," it comes with just one egg, a single strip of bacon, and perfectly sauteed spinach on a single hearty piece of toast) - but the flavors were excellent. Instead of the usual hollandaise used in the US, which I find a bit bland, Bodega's serves a richer bechamel. This worked wonderfully. We also shared a €7.50 Greek yogurt and granola. Note that granola in Europe means a slightly different cereal- more like what we call muesli. Toasted and nicely flavored rolled oats with nuts and a bit of dried fruit, but without the clusters we typically see. It's quite tasty and similar to granola, but less crunchy. Good value. Coffee was typical European excellent. We had cafe con leche (coffee with milk). One of those will wake you right up. Total cost was €22. Not much more than we'd pay at a cafe at home, but far higher quality. Four stars; a great score by my standard.
