I usually don't write reviews but I had to. A plus nails is a nail salon that was the closest to my previous house in Winnetka. Since I moved, I must admit that I come back all the way there just to be treated by Natalie. She is the youngest among the staff but I assume that professionalism doesn't only come from experience but from the heart. She is super gentle, talented, clean and communicative. Used to love coming to this nail salon with my sister. I only stopped going there because I have done most of the colors and wanted to try out some newer ones. My gel mani would stay on for an entire month and my pedi would as well. These ladies are amazing and Vivian (the owner) is a really great person. I went here cuz they have really good reviews and I got short, almond acrylics. They came off in less than a week, then when I got them retouched, they didn't shave them down so they were thick and chunky and Rushed. However, they did not cut me or make me bleed like other nail salons do. Overall, the nails looked good, they were inexpensive and the customer service was great. Gotta love ViViaN , she's very sweet and always welcoming. You show her a picture and she will do it how you want it. She will tell you what would be best for you and give you different choices and ideas. She also does waxing, very good at it. This has got to be the worst nail salon I have ever been to. This place is literally down the street from me, and I was looking for a place to do my nails last minute because the one I normally go to was going to be closed by the time I got home from work. I called and got an appointment, and when I got there, the place wasn't so busy, so they were able to seat me right away. The water in the spa was too hot. So I had to ask the lady to cool it down. I decided to go with a french tip. This lady gives me a job that looks like I had band aids on my toes. Literally, the strip of white was so thick that when she finished, I thought she was barely about to start working on getting them thinned out and designed properly. I actually kind of thought she was joking when she said she was done. I told her they were too thick and if she could thin them out. She mutters in Vietnamese, then thins it out microscopically. Like seriously?? I told her I didn't want them too thick and that she needed to thin them out more. She started muttering in Vietnamese again (I have Viet friends, so I am pretty familiar with their intonations) and bangs on the little drawer that she has on the side that stores her supplies, grabs a bottle of acetone and literally dumps it all over my feet. I guess she was too lazy to just "edit" my toes like they do at other nail salons and would rather just start over. I also noticed that my nail shape on one of my toes was crooked. So I asked if she could shape them out. She literally grabbed the filer, and filed it once, then looked up at me. I told her it's still crooked. She repeats. One file...looks up. I had to hold myself from not walking out. I told her it was still uneven. Same routine again. File. Stare. I finally gave up and just let her finish. What the hell did I just spend my hard earned money on?? Worst customer service ever experienced. And seriously, what nail salon artist doesn't know how to do a simple french tip? I came here expecting something positive because they had good reviews on Yelp, but then again---they only have 7 reviews. Too bad I can't give no stars at all. read more

I hate to do this, especially because of how pleased I was with my first few visits but after maybe my 3rd or 4th visit, the quality of work and customer service just went down hill. Vivian did my acrylics and they looked beautiful, I received A LOT of compliments. But after my trip to get a fill I did not receive a single compliment, and for good reason, they looked hideous.Before I sat in her chair I showed her a photo of what I wanted and mentioned that if she couldn't do it, that would be fine and I would choose to have the acrylics removed and get a gel manicure instead. She said it was cute and she could do it. After she shaped the acrylics, I told her they were very crooked and the shape did not look like it did last time, to which she replied that my fingers were crooked and that's why they look like that. I became so angry I didn't know how to respond without getting completely out of line myself,so I didn't. I just thought she'd attempt to fix them. She didn't. Then when it was time to do the design I showed her in the beginning, she said she couldn't do it, that it would be too hard. Now, I'm even more upset, I showed her another photo of a design with a little bit of glitter, she said she could do that one and proceeded to dump glitter on the nails, and stated, "Look that's so cute!". I did not reply. Mind you, she never fixed the misshapen, crooked nails I pointed out. Grrr. Wait, it gets better. I left in such a fuss I forgot my keys(my fault not hers). I walked there because I live about a mile away. I arrived home and realized I didn't have my keys. It was over 100 degrees that day and I had made a couple of stops on the way home at CVS and a taco restaurant. So I called Vivian because I wanted to make sure theyw ere there before I walked back. When I asked her to see if they were in one of the two chairs I sat in during my appointment there, she told me she was too busy and to come back and look. i explained my situation further; her reply was the same. Of course my keys were in one of the chairs I sat in. In fact they were in the chair at her station. The friend that referred me to Vivian saw my nails, had a good laugh and asked if I paid for them. I told her that I did. She said I shouldn't have. My philosophy behind that is that if I perform less than average at work one day or make a few mistakes, my hourly pay isn't docked so why should I be able to do that to someone else. Now I do have the right to tip less or more, or not at all. I still gave Vivian my standard $5.00 tip(I'm not sure why, I think I was just kind of shocked and unfocused). My friend went back to see Vivian and brought my dissatisfaction to her attention. That weekend I received a text message from Vivian apologizing and asking me to come in so that she could fix them. I was hesitant as I'd already made up my mind about not going back...free of charge or not. I was prompted by my boyfriend to give her a chance to redeem herself and accepted her offer. I explained to her that I had already cut off the majority of the acrylics and if she would instead remove what was left and do a regular gel manicure that I would come in(I paid for gel polish and a design on the acrylics anyway). She said okay. When I arrived for my appointment she was apologetic. She was chatty and polite like she always is. I was happy because her shop is so close to home, it really is very convenient for me to get my manis and pedis there plus I love Sue(she does my pedicures), so I wanted to remain a customer. I asked for a heart on my manicure. The gel polish could have used another coat and the hearts, well they don't look great but I wouldn't complain. I'm not paying this time so I felt awkward and I'm not really a complainer by nature. When she finished, she said, "I put two top coats to make it extra strong, that's $22.00.". I asked he if she was serious. She listed the services she had provided and their prices, "nail removal, gel polish, design....". I explained to her that I paid for a fill with gel polish and a design last time and that I was under the impression that she was giving me a complimentary service because the services I received last time were given so poorly. She said, okay. $20". My response to her was that if she truly felt I owed her money today then I would pay her but I also let her know that had that been made clear from the get go, I would not have come back. It really is a shame because she does a wonderful job on two other women I know personally who have been long-time clients of Vivians' and I really don't know why the service level i've received has been so poor; I never tip poorly. I always tip at least 20% of the cost of services I receive anywhere I go, and at the nail shop it's usually slightly more. read more

Horrible experience, I went in for a pedicure and left with a sore, red, swollen toe. After I complained about the pain the owner came to check on me and my lady said I came in swollen? ?? WTF?? Why would you work on someone who is swollen? She lied and that pissed me off, they use all the same implements in every customer and don't sanitize! I went back, I don't know why, but I did. I guess I believe in second chances? I liked the way the lady did my pedicure and I found my favorite color nail polish there! :) The second time I went, they remembered me, the owner made sure to point out that they now had plastic covers for the foot tubs. Very quick response! She didn't ignore my concerns, instead she took action. This place is cheap and close by too. So I'll keep going until something better comes along.. read more

I stopped by to see if could get a quick pedi , they usually have cheap slip on flip flops to wear out of the salon.... Not today!! BEWARE! Look up info on line before you walk in!!!!! A freind of mine reccomended Vivian - and since I was short on time - I thought I would check her out for a fill for pink & white... Well, First the pros........Vivian is great with t he drill. She is gentle - and knows what she is doing. my white tips are perfection! She is also very sweet. BUT................ the cons are - that the workstation is not clean. I have random glitter on my pinks. only because the station has alot of cross contamination of other product. Not good. Since I was so concerned by the appearance of Vivian's workstation ( dirty bottles, etc, dirty baskets ( hey you can go to dollar tree and get clean ones) I thought I would venture on the to the State of California Website..... Turns out that A Plus nails has NOT RENEWED THEIR LICENSE SINCE 2008! That's right, they are not up to code...so no one is looking.....With the 30 bucks I dropped - Methinks - that Vivian and her husband could take a drive downtown and re new - Why are you NOT Renewed???? I won't turn them in. I figure - Yelp is good enough. I am praying that my fill will be safe in the next three weeks - until I get to my regular fabulous nail lady again. This is an ok place. I got a mani and pedi. Pedi women fixed me feet and they feel wonderful. Lisa did an ok job. Seemed rushed not the best mani I had. But was really relaxed. Felt welcomed by everyone. Nails and toes look amazing. But BIG tip they do charge to use credit card. They forgot to mention to me no buggy but just a head up. Also if your a big germ freak maybe you should pass. To me it's didn't seem so clean like at other places I have been to. read more

I normally love this place. I decided to bring a friend for a pedi and this place made me look terrible!!! We sat down at the same time, the girl rushed through my pedi to get to someone else whom which she didnt mind taking her time with. My friend had her pedi stopped mid process and was told to wait because she had requested acryllic toenails for her big toe. Of course she didnt mind waiting because we were told 10 minutes. 45 minutes later we asked the owner what was taking so long... she replied "oh!!! jus 10 more minutes". After waiting an additional 15 minutes and my toes were completely dry we were tired of waiting. We asked wat she would like us to pay since we had waited and been there wellllll over an hour, she wanted full price. Mind you my friend had not been polished or anything on top of the wait. I was recommended to A Plus nails by one of the women that goes to the same hair salon. Her nails looked beautiful and she had not had them done in three weeks. I tried going there today and it was the best looking fill I have had in the Valley and I have been to many places. The employees are personable which I find to be unusual. I also had a pedicure and my toes look very good. Vivian did my nails and Lena my toes. I will go back, it is very conveniently located for me. More like F plus. Went for acrylics and it took 3 ppl to do a 1 person job. First person glued the nails and did the coffin design and filed them. When done she told me to relax and her sister will help me shortly. "Shortly" took into 30 min. Second person, Vivian did the fill and was 3 nails filled before she told me hold and went to finish another ladies job. Came back to me after a few minutes finished filling my nails and also filed them. Third lady painted my nails and did the gel. It normally takes about an hr to do acrylics but it took 3 ppl 2 hrs to get the job done. Nails came out descent but definitely Not going back. read more

This place is awful, they cut my toe which is terrifying because the salon is dirty and gross! They seemed to be frustrated that I had short nails. Talking about me and making my gel manicure a lesson for one of the other technicians. The gel chipped 3 days later. Will not go back. read more

I had gotten pedicures with callous removal in the past and they had done a decent job. Not so this last time. The lady (Toa??) doing my feet used a dremel to remove the callouses and went overboard with it. She removed layers of skin on top of the callouses, as my foot had about a half dozen cuts that were bleeding. One spot was so bad there was a hole that was deeper than the rest of the skin around it. My wife took one look and was ready to go there and cuss them out for the horrible job they did. I could barely walk for two days after. I ended up going to see my doctor because I was afraid it was infected. Fortunately it wasn't, but he prescribed me antibiotics as a precaution because it was on the verge of being infected. He couldn't believe what my foot looked like after a pedicure and recommended I not go back here. Needless to say, I will be taking his advice. read more

I took my two 5 yr old grand daughters for a pedicure and manicure. I wanted a particular person. The owner tried to get me to let someone esle do it and one started. I had to constantly stop someone. The shop advertises credit cards.When I got ready to pay Vivian the owner wanted me to pay cash. I said, no, I was going to pay with card. Vivian wanted half cash, I again said no. I also stated to her that she didn't ask other customers for half cash. Vivian said, she always does, this is not true. Then, she quoted $44.00. When I got my bill, it was $44.50. Vivian and her husband don't even advertise or state they charge $.50 for card services. read more
