This was a cute little shop in Bucktown. I stopped in as I was leaving another business down the street. The proprietor was really friendly and welcoming, even as she was very busy (she was the only one in the shop and there were a few customers that came in during the short time I was here). There are three sections to the store and I thought it was just the front, so make sure to head back. She has lots of shoes but she also sells some other accessories too, like jewelry and gloves. It's unfortunate for me that my feet are huge, so it's very rare that I find shoes in a store like this that would actually fit me. However, she does carry a line (at least sometimes!) that sells shoes in sizes 11-13. They even had a few baby shoes and a handful of baby onesies. Cute shop in Roscoe Village that has great and friendly service. They have good deals when they have sales and a pretty good range of prices. I've been in here two times (both during sales....) and have had wonderful help even though I was looking at sale items. This is great, because I've been in shops before where the staff ignores you if you even approach the sale rack! During their last sale, folks were lining up to try on shoes and it got very hectic - but people were still really friendly and brought out extra sizes, shoes, etc. read more

I recently bought a pair of shoes from A Pied, and due to a fluke in the manufacturing, they fell apart the second time I wore them. We live in an amazing city and if you want to look modern, cute and flirty and be able to explore Chicago on foot (without looking foolishly in pain) - check this store out. I just bought a pair of super comfy, sporty, yet feminine looking flats that actually have substantial, built-in insoles - at a great price (cheaper than I could find them online). The shoes are unique ... to describe the styles, I'd say, feminine, a great variety of colors and textures from deep red patent leather to two toned muted suede - they're a little bit hipster, some bohemian-ish (but streamlined) styles, some younger, yuppie styles (the kind that can be for work or weekend); and contrary to one reviewer's opinions, they are not clunky "mom" shoes. They're sexy, smart and fun. I was very surprised at the number of small sizes they carried since I have a tiny foot (but the owner told me they even carry size 11). Every shoe in the store is hand picked to be great for walking. I think this is the beauty of boutique shopping - there isn't one standard size group or style they are forced to stock and a lot of care goes into picking each item. read more

I should have gone to Nordstrom but I thought I should try local shop. Big mistake. I bought a pair of suede Toms shoes for $86 two weeks ago. I wore them once and realised the material is so incredibly hard that it really REALLY hurt my feet. So I went to the store today asking if I could return those. The girl at the counter was having her lunch and did not greet me or anything, I found this quite rude considering there was nobody else in the store. She told me the store does not accept returns. WHAT? I was never told this when I bought the shoes. The website doesn't say it either. Ridiculous. She said, they can do an exchange only 7 days after the purchase. So I couldn't do anything with this pair. What can I say? I am NEVER going back there. read more

Here's the thing....I'm going to shop. Now it's just up to the retailer to get my money. Shopping, for me, is entertainment. So if you are offering Irish Coffee on Chicago St. Patrick's Day (Sat before the real day) AND a buy one get one free offer before noon I say "all right!". I have never been to this store and went to breakfast down the street and saw the sign for the sale so stopped in after my meal. When I arrived I was the only customer - and by the time I left the place was packed. Not only was the shoe selection great - I like the brands they carry and the selection is big but very well chosen - the other customers were so nice! I usually shop alone but ended up sitting next to a very nice woman who was buying shoes for a vacation and it was fun to share comments on the shoes we were trying on. I even had another customer (who seems to be a regular) walk across the store to say she liked a pair I had tried on and was thinking of getting them too. Yes, the store was very busy but I never felt ignored and it gave me a chance to try on (almost) every shoe in the place. So a very entertaining atmosphere! I don't want weird shoes (no German art pieces) but I also don't want boring shoes (no comfort soles or what everyone else is wearing) and A Pied hits it right in the middle for me. Easily one of my favorite shops in Chicago. Their selection of stylish shoes that don't kill your feet is the best I've found...and we're not talking stylish/comfortable as in what your 65-year-old mother-in-law would wear. This is stylish/comfortable along the lines of people stopping me on the street to compliment me and then staring in disbelief when I tell them I've been wearing them since 5am, have walked the respective lengths of both Chicago O'Hare AND Boston Logan, and am on my way to a cocktail party where I'll be standing in them for another three hours. I've always said that when it comes to shoes, sofas, and executive assistants, you tend to get what you pay for. This isn't an inexpensive place to shop, but the quality is good and the prices certainly aren't over the top. I've never walked out and felt I paid too much for something. Their selection has gotten even better over the past 6-9 months. I used to find myself frequently walking out of there with a pair of shoes I probably couldn't afford. Now I'm now walking out with two. Of note: for the bargain hunter, they have a "last pair" rack where you can score an outrageous discount. I've always received excellent customer service, and Kim (who seems to be there every time I walk in) rocks. She's great at understanding what you're looking for and pointing out other shoes that are worth adding to your consideration set. When my husband is with me, she makes sure he has a Heineken to keep him occupied while I do my thing. One final note: this is a woman-owned business, which I'm always a fan of supporting. So much better than Curves!! Not that I don't like working out, but shoe shopping is so much more fun. You burn calories trying on heels, right? The owner of this new Roscoe Village shop has made an effort to stock comfortable and fashionable footwear. Her efforts really show. The staff is friendly. The prices really vary depending on the brand, so it's worth a look. Right now, she's stocking Born, Merrell, All Black, Jeffrey Campbell, and others. They also have some La Canadiennes, which will be a must have come boot season. Can anyone say washable suede???? Not only does the owner have a great shoe sense, she's also really friendly. She owns Kickin' down the street and promotes other R.V. businesses. She'll be adding purses and scarves to her inventory, but not jewelry. I really like this place. The first time I walked in, I was surprised about how few shoes there were. But once I started shopping I realized that in this case, less is more. With less shoes, I noticed the high style and quality of every pair and there ended up being plenty of choices. The employee spent a lot of time with me to help me find the perfect pair of boots. They could not be more cute and comfortable, so comfortable that I did not want to take them off on the first day. When do you ever find shoes/boots that feel so good the first day you wear them? I got lucky that these boots are so amazing because I was a little worried about their return policy. They give you 14 days to return your shoes but only for store credit. I get that higher end places often do this, but this may prevent me from buying there in the future. Especially when there aren't tons of choices to exchange them for. I often need to take shoes home, make sure they fit well and try them on with different outfits. I don't have the kind of money to buy pricy shoes that I don't love in every way! read more

My go to place in the neighborhood when I need shoes for a very specific occasion. The family who runs this place is amazing! They give the best suggestions on shoes and are excellent on meeting your specific needs. I've bought 3 pairs from these guys so far for important trips/occasions and I haven't been disappointed so far. This place was disappointing... horrid service on a Sunday afternoon, for shame. Shoe brands that you can purchase at Nordstrom's cheaper, and certainly lacking selection. I like the name, the location, and the store's decor, but it will take more than that to keep 'afoot' of the rest of the much cooler (Traipse on Lincoln is my fave) shoe boutiques in Chicago. I've been a customer for years but only recently joined their mailing list (which I highly recommend). They have great sales/specials especially when they change stock at the end of the season...so I always take advantage and stock up. For a relatively small store they carry a great selection of comfortable and stylish shoes. The shoes are not inexpensive but they are very high quality which means they will last you for years if you take good care of them. And as mentioned - if you watch for sales - you can get some great deals like 30-40% off or buy 2 get 1 free. The staff is also extremely helpful and friendly. They will point out good alternatives to what you are trying on and which ones are on sale. They have also offered to special order some items not in stock (like Frye boots in extended calf). read more

In fact, my last visit I really adored this pair of shoes and they were out as they sold quickly. Trudy called her local/national contacts to find me my size with no luck. A week later Trudy called me and sharing the solution to the shoes I walked away thinking I would never wear them with my jeans, I once visioned. Service at A Pied is sub-par at best and every time I've gone in they do not have my size in anything. When I finally did find a pair of shoes I liked, I purchased them not knowing the NO RETURNS policy that they have, which turned out to be more of a pain than anything. Nice shoe selection. I have purchased couple of pairs from the store and most of them have been great. I love Trudy, the owner, and always enjoy going to the store when she is there. She provides great advices when trying to decide on a shoe. However, the new sales lady is not "my cup of tea." She is really pushy and would say anything to have you buy the pair of shoes... even if the size is not right. :) Why would anyone pay $200+ for a pair of shoes if they do not fit? If you ask her, she will most likely make up some kind of an answer. I find it insulting and disrespectful...does she think the customers are stupid? In any case, this store has been a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT as of late. While I am a regular patron and supporter of all Roscoe Village businesses, I refuse to support a business that is disrespectful to its customers. read more

I just moved to Roscoe Village and strolled in one day with my daughter to browse the selection. I will never go back. I've worked in sales before and I now work with pediatric patients. My philosophy is that my patients or clients come first. The man there was already with a customer when I walked in. But a few minutes in, I still did not receive a greeting or even a glance my way. I continued to browse thinking he'll eventually make his way over to make me feel welcome and still NOTHING. This is rude and unacceptable. If I were the owner I wouldn't tolerate this because it's sales people like this who hurt your business. Needless to say, I'll be taking my business elsewhere, which is a shame, because there was a nice selection and I could of walked out as a regular customer. As for the salesman's name? I love love LOVE my new boots that I bought here, and shopping for them was such a delight! My poor, wide, flat feet don't usually fit into anything pretty and stylish, but that doesn't stop me from hoping when I go shoe shopping, and boy was I hoping to find something that would actually fit me when I saw the lovely collection of shoes and boots here! The owner herself brought me several pair to try on, and did a great job of assessing what I was looking for vs. what would fit me. She and her husband considered their stock and brought me the perfect pair of boots to try. So perfect that I didn't take them off until I got home! I have bought both my winter boots, spring flats, and summer sandals here for a damn good reason. A Pied is located in the central roscoe village area, just steps away from Victory's Banner (after shoe shopping lunch, mmm). The owner, Trudy, is a passionate and excited person. Being in Retail myself, I feel like a good indicator of a reputable and concious buisness is when the sales associates themselves truely believe in their products. I'm a very careful/concious buyer, especially if it is an item I'll be wearing all season. Trudy definitely followed up with my annoying questions and phone calls, even offering to order certian shoes in for me. Yes, they do carry items that Nordstrom carries, but they also are concious of smaller brands that are unacessible to department stores. Plus, can you get a one of a kind jeffery cambell shoe at nordstrom? Nope. Can you get assistance that is personal and accomodating? I don't think so. A Pied is definitely worth checking out. It's a buisness that I will definitely miss when I leave this city. read more

I have been shopping here since it opened and the selection is super unique and fresh .. trust me you do not find last seasons shoes here, unless they are on the sale rack! Every time I walk in, they have new merchandise. If you are looking for a super trendy selection of flats you will definitely find them here.. they carry all the cute styles like All Black and Jeffrey Campbell (2 of my favs!) and loads of others. And in the winter the boot selection is tres magnigique! The shop is very simple and elegant, and the sales people (especially Megan ;-) are lovely and really helpful. Seriously the first time I walked in I walked out with 3 pairs of shoes and a new friend! There is nothing nicer than walking into a new shop and being treated like an old valued customer.
