Lori's still rocks. I was coveting a new pair of black leather boots, but hadn't found them yet. I tried Amazon (no), DSW (cheap crap). I was almost going to give up. Suddenly, I remembered!! Why am I wasting my time on shoddy shoe stores when Lori's exists! If I can't find boots here, they don't exist. Rolled up to Lori's. Same setup, same gorgeous shoes on display. A bit more selection of clothing, but I was single minded BOOTS today. I spy a pair of tall black leather Ángel Alarcón boots. HELLO, LOVER. Super helpful and friendly salesperson, Mimi, appears. Because I wasn't tempted enough by these boots, layer a dollop of great customer service over this as well. Think I decided in 5 seconds, yep, these are mine. Made in Spain? Bueno! Mine. Love these boots. I'll be stomping all over Chicago in these. just add a pair of fishnets - FIRE. What I love about Lori's is the selection of clothing, accessories and shoes - you can tell it's intensely curated. There's nothing dull, boring or dowdy - and there are shoes there from comfortable sneakers and flats to sky high heels, and in between. Sadly, I can no longer wear those sky high heels, but I do love gazing at their beauty. And I'm still thinking about a pair of bright orange Vagabond sneakers I also tried on. Hmmmm..... I'll likely be back sooner than later, 'cos I love me a good pair of stylish sneaks. Was there with the BF and he even picked up a cute sweatshirt for his daughter. This store has the worst customer service I've ever experienced. My grandmother purchased a pair of $150 ballet flats for me, and after just one wear, the leather on the back of the shoes ripped and became heavily scuffed. Given the price and poor quality, I returned to the store hoping for a refund or store credit. Unfortunately, the staff refused to offer either and were extremely condescending throughout the interaction. For a store selling expensive products, I expected much better quality and customer service. I will not be shopping here again. read more

I am a Lincoln Park resident, and I have been in this store only 2 times. It is extremely overpriced, underwhelming and disappointing. This business needs to shut down and give way to a business that has an inkling as to what people actually want. In addition to just being a bad business, they are also awful neighbors. Their truck consistently blocks back alleys and sidewalks, and the driver is never to be found. Emergency vehicles have been blocked by this truck! Just awful. read more

I have bought shoes here many times. Last week, I bought two pairs and I bought a friend from out of town who bought two pairs. Today, I wore one pair a second time for a work event at someone's house and noticed the blue elastic part of the shoe had discolored. I took them in to show them and they told me to talk to a guy named Matt. So I tell Matt what happened and his response was s condescending "Well, I can assure you it didn't come out of the box like that." So condescending and so offensive. Who's ever saying it did? I wouldn't have bought them if they had. I was just trying to see what the problem was. And he repeated " I can assure you it didn't come out of the box like that." Then he said "Well you must've walked through a dusty street." This is the second time I had worn the shoes. They were discolored and I was just trying to figure out why. Why not say, Let us try to clean them up and see." But he wanted to harass me. So I talked to two other people in there who I know as I have shopped there for many years, but never met this jerk, Matt. He came back and told me they were clean and continued to be aggressive to me and it turns out he was Lori's son. Matt, the owner treats customers this way! Treated a customer like this. Apparently he thinks his mom doesn't need that many customers. I turned to walk out and he stayed right there harassing me further with a snotty "Have a nice day ma'am." Here I thought Lori's was a small hidden gem. That is not the case. Holy shoe central! After walking past this spot many times when I lived nearby, I finally decided to stop in after a yummy lunch at Taco Joint. I needed a pair of pointy toed nude heels and Lori's did not disappoint with the selection. They had shoes EVERYWHERE! They have their sale section sorta lined against the wall but I found the way they had it sized kind of confusing and a lot of their shoes were just on sale kinda spread around the sales floor. I think their sizing could be more apparent on the sale section. What also drove me nuts is it was almost like every customer took their shoes off in any walking area to walk around and try every other shoe on. I mean seriously, this place has shoes in every spot. I have shopped here for 20 years almost exclusively for shoes. I was nine days outside of the policy. The girl at the front desk was short, didn't offer to get her manager had a death in the family. The shoes are unworn. All I was looking for was an exchange I was on the phone with my wife, talking frustrated none of that directed towards the sales associate. I assumed there was no manager there since she didn't offer to get one. I ordered a dress that came in defective. I decided to return it and wasn't sure that replacing it would correct the issue. It was poorly made. They have a return policy to charge you $10 if you don't get a store credit. I would understand that if I simply didn't care for something but my dress was defective. I've never been a girly girl, growing up I was always more of a tom boy. Even my mom teased me saying that I could look better, and would say looking like that you're going to be single. Never was one for dressing up, didn't care much about purses or shoes either. Well I guess a switch flipped with a few things, especially shoes. Maybe all these years I needed some inspiration. It started a few years ago, each time I went to NYC I came home with a new pair. In Chicago, it takes some patience to find a store with some unique shoes and boots. I do like many of them and pricing is reasonable. For instance there was a pair of thigh high leather boots at one of those big department stores that I loved, the price 2K turned me off quick. Here they had a similar pair on sale for 150.00, swoon...heart beats a little faster. FYI, the staff does not work on commission which is nice to know, so if your person isn't close by anyone can help and they do have enough staff available to assist you. No one wants the same old stuff, and for the most part I'm still not a girly girl, generally still my Levi's and a simple shirt. However, I do like my accessories, such as what I put on my feet. Lorie's has the footwear to do that, they also carry a selection of clothing, handbags and sunglasses, some of that fun stuff that allows you to personalize your look. DO NOT ORDER ONLINE! I ordered a pair of shoes online. They didn't fit and were very cheap looking. I sent them back for return on the same day I received them. A couple days later, I receive an email from Lori's stating that they will not accept this return as the shoes have been worn. !?! And they will be sending them back at my expense! I called, and received no response. I emailed and told them that I did not wear these shoes anywhere - I only had them for an hour! Both a shoe-lover's paradise and a klutz's worst nightmare. Since I'm both I'm not really sure where that leaves me... I've heard about Lori's wonderful selection for years and purposely avoided visiting until recently. I'd checked out the website a few times and always found some fabulously cute shoes, which were also fabulously out of my price range. Last summer I got into a bit of a shoe rut; I injured my knee and somehow my shoe collection became primarily comfy/marginally cute flats. It was time for a change, I came to Lori's in search of some smokin' hot patent leather heels. I had spied a few on the website and hope I'd be fortunate to find some in my size and price range. Walking in here is very overwhelming! There are literally shoes everywhere; they're stacked box upon box in an intricate, narrow little maze. Sale shoes are along the wall, but tend to creep onto the floor making some rows even narrower. Walking in with my big bag I felt a bit like a bull in a china shop, nervous that I'd bump something and knock shoe boxes everywhere like dominoes. I found about 20 pairs of shoes I was meant to have, but sadly my budget only allowed for one, but it was a pair of fabulous red patent leather heels. In addition to shoes Lori's sells handbags, some pantyhose, Spanx and various pads, inserts, etc. to get that perfect fit. Lori's carries a great selection of brands and shoes, but they're not cheap. However, I have tried and failed to find a lower price on several pairs of shows I've spotted on their website. Attention Claustrophobics: This place is packed on weekends, it just might send you into a panic attack! read more

I have bought several pairs of shoes at Lori's in Highland Park since moving back to town this summer, which is why it disappoints me to share this big customer fail. Last month, I purchased the L'idea (store brand) lug boot at $378. I loved them and wore them for one week. That's when the problems began. The "leather" began peeling off the right boot in two different places. I promptly brought the boots back. The store salesman was very helpful. He said they couldn't just replace them but would send them out for repair and that it would take one week. Nine days later, no word. I called to find them. The boot came back clean and buffed, but you can't do anything about "leather" that has peeled off. At this point I asked for a new pair or a full refund. Again, the very helpful salesperson said he was not authorized to do that, but I should call Matt at the downtown store. I did, twice. And left two lengthy voice messages. I have not had a return call. #CustomerFail $378 boots should last more than a week. Actually, any boots should. I think a store should stand by its product (L'idea is Lori's house "brand") and work with customers to do the right thing. It's too bad. I'd much prefer to buy shoes at a local shop than on Zappos or at a large chain. But, I won't shop here again. read more

It is the worst online shopping I ever experienced. The shop looks so nice, because it is somewhat a well- known brand. So, I really trust them that they will provide a good quality and nice design of shoes as what shown in the picture in their site. But when I decided to take my order online, I was so disappointed with what I receive from this shop. It is so, different from the picture when I saw it with my own eyes and touch it personally. Purchased 3 pairs of shoes over the last year from here. They always have a fantastic selection (young woman in her 20s). I shop at their Lincoln Park location and have never been disappointed. Who ever is purchasing their inventor is doing a great job- I don't have to spend hours in Nordstrom or get ripped off at Free People, Lori's has it all! Granted their shoes are marked up a bit from maybe Nordstroms or Macy's but the mark up is worth it in my opinion for all the time I save hunting down a pair of go-to shoes. read more

I love supporting a local business and they have a really nice selection of shoes, some you won't find anywhere else. Service in the store was excellent. I purchased a pair of boots in the store and later that day saw that I could have bought online and been given a 10% discount. Super disappointing to see I was paying more to go to the storefront. I sent an email to their customer service address and never heard back. From other reviews, it sounds like that's common. Another important note - if you buy online, you can return for a full refund. If you buy in store, you can only return for store credit. I guess the trick is to try on in store and buy online. read more

I went here on a trip to Chicago and was so intrigued by all the nice shoes and ADORABLE jewelry... I bought a ring and a pair of earrings. Later that night, the ring broke (a small jewel fell out of a circle of different colored jewels). They do not take returns, so I was forced to go and get the exact ring, which will probably break again! Five days later, after I have left Chicago, the earring broke as well! Another small diamond fell out of the earring. To sum up, I spent $70 at this store on jewelry that was poorly made, overpriced, and essentially a ripoff. DO NOT BUY JEWELRY HERE, NO MATTER HOW CUTE IT MAY BE, AS IT WILL JUST BREAK. I could not express my disappointment or regret more. UPDATE: received a new ring from my aunt who had to go and exchange the old one out for this one... they said that they had never had a problem with the ring losing stones, but after wearing the ring for 5 days two stones fell out!!! I am one who never will post, especially during the pandemic but this was such poor customer service. My wife purchased a purse 3 weeks ago from Lori's in Northfield. Last weekend she took it out of the bag and while transferring her items noticed the stitching had a knot in it. I advised, since the strap and bag are Separate (they sell the as separates) to just leave it and we would go back and exchange the strap. Again, we are in a pandemic so she has left the house once before today with it. When she went today to make additional purchases, the manager explained that there wasn't anything she could do about it because it wasn't in its original packaging. Walk into the store, they are hanging on a wall without packaging. They lost a customer forever today and as a family owned retail establishment who relies on word of mouth, I will make sure my word gets out. read more

Why can't I ever find shoes here! I really love my shoes...and I usually need to be held back from shoe departments. However, I've managed to shop at Lori's at least 10 times and I have never found anything to buy. I'm not sure if it's the random organization and general haphazard-ness (word??) of this store. I often have to climb over people to even look at things. Once I find something that I like, it's usually not available in my size. Yes, it's true, I have a moderately unique size, but I usually have luck everywhere...not here. I want to like Lori's! I keep going back, yet nothing seems to work. My daughter purchased a pair of the Dolce Vita at the Northfield store. The wedge part of the shoe started splitting after 12 days. We went to return and Pat the manager acted like she was doing us a favorite by helping us. Never apologizing for the problem. It was a "O" in customer service. She said their shoe guy could glue repair. Of course we took the store credit because being Lori's Shoe's they would never refund our credit card. It also seems like they are purchasing cheaper shoes. I purchased a pair of Vagabond tennis shoes that were so uncomfortable. When we walked out my daughter said I'm over Lori's Shoes and I agreed. Reading Eyewear You would want to buy a pair even though you may not need them ... because they are ... well ... just too sexy not to indulge. I love me some Lori's. I hate me some Lourdes. She's the pushiest, most aggressive saleswoman I've encountered in a while. She pounces on you, then stalks you around the store, making comments on everything you pick up. Whatever you take a shine to just happens to be her favorite thing in the store. And -- not coincidentally, I'm sure -- if you touch anything that's less expensive, she's right there to tell you why it's not as nice as the item you initially lusted after. God forbid you put something back or say you need to sleep on it. She'll argue with you, asking rudely what you could possibly be missing from said item. My last three visits have been soured because of her, and now I'm just done. The shoes, bags and tights are gorgeous, with many styles you can't find elsewhere, and at prices that are usually 5 to 10 percent less. But the return policy sucks, and so does Lourdes. Both have made it so that I shop at Lori's but rarely buy. Honestly, I'd rather spend a little more than reward her with the commission. read more

I went through the process of resetting my forgotten Yelp account password JUST to write this review. I have been to Lori's twice within the last 6 months; both times I have been completely ignored by the staff. The first time, two associates were loudly ranting and complaining about a customer that had just left. It was so incredibly rude. Both times I have ALSO seen associates enthusiastically helping other customers (one even shared with a customer that she was NOT working on commission, inappropriate?), while ignoring me. Just to make things clear, there have been associates present that weren't preoccupied with other customers. Today I timed my visit. 10 minutes in the store with absolutely no customer service. I even lingered by the Frye boots (that I came in to buy) where a sales associate was standing and she did not even look at me. This was extremely hurtful and infuriating. There is no excuse for this; and quite frankly I feel discriminated against. (I know what discrimination feels like, I am a 20 year old African-American woman.) I bought my first pair of Ugg boots from Lori's in 2006, so it has always been a top choice for shoe shopping in the city. Unfortunately I will never return. Enough is enough. I will not put up with the elitist attitude that is evident of the entire staff. read more
