Got a cake for my husband's retirement party here. I went to the shop personally to order at least 3 weeks in advance. I called Monday before the scheduled pick up on Saturday to change the size of the cake. They couldn't find my order...after several hours I called back and they had found it. The place inside was cool seeing the wedding cake decoration on the left side and other cakes on display. They had great looking cakes and pastries on display as well and it was hard to choose from but eventually I settled with an eclsir and it wasn't bad at all. After looking at some reviews for this bakery I decided to check it out while I was in town. The shop is a part of a small shopping center located right off of Washington Road. It was early afternoon with plenty of parking. From the outside the sign, etc looked a little dated and once inside of the bakery space I realized it was indeed dated. There were two other people in the shop besides us. It's a small space with a cash register on the same area as the display case. The cookies didn't interest me so I decided to try a slice of cake. I settled on the lemon buttercream as the employees didn't make any recommendations or ask if it was my first time. The cake was average with a pretty good buttercream frosting. The lemon filling was more of a thin layer of custard between the layers. It was pre-cut in plastic wrap.The size of the cake fit in the palm of my hand. It was around $2.50. Overall, not a bakery I would revisit in the area with the abundance of options available. read more

It's no secret that I love sweets. I stopped at A piece of Cake to get a box of cookies for a client. It was the week before Easter and they had plenty of Easter type goodies. I did a box of 2 dozen cookies, and included chocolate chip, chocolate with chocolate chips, Reese's PB cookies, and Easter Sugar cookies. When I dropped them off my clients were VERY excited. I was certainly not going to leave without getting something for myself! My bag included a lemon square, a snicker doodle , and a chocolate chip doozie. I planned to snack on them over the course of the next 2 days. AS IF! That Lemon Square was in my mouth before I'd pulled out of the parking lot! It was delicious. The snicker doodle went next. Good flavor, but just a tiny bit to done. Those cookies must be super soft. Some how before I got home the doozie was gone too..... Two chocolate chip cookies sandwiching frosting. Yes, that is one of my favorite things! YUM! I spoke to the lady in the shop about pre-orders. She said just doing 2 dozen or so cookies was no big deal, but for larger orders to call ahead so they don't wipe out the cases. I ordered a cake for my mother's 90th birthday surprise party. I had a design I wanted and also had a picture similar to what I wanted, 2-tiered with cherry blossoms (she's Japanese). I also ordered a few petit fours. Most of this was done over the phone after I had stopped by to talk with them a bit and put a deposit down to hold the cherry blossom decoration since it was the last one left. I called Tiffany and went ahead and ordered the cake and petit fours, asked her for buttercream icing and almond cake. My sister picked up the cake on Saturday, 3/18/2017, the day before the party. It was beautiful!! They had also done cherry blossoms on the petit fours to go with the theme. We were EXTREMELY pleased and the cake tasted delicious!! I wish I was able to post a picture of the cake! I simply cannot recommend them more, especially for a specially designed, or custom-ordered cake. The cost was also extremely reasonable. Smells great inside! Beware! I've seen sooooo many cakes and various desserts that this bakery has produced and I recently experienced greatness! When I pulled into the parking lot, I won't lie... I did a happy dance. The sign read "Open" and it was swarming with people. I walked in and was greeted by the smell of baked goods. The staff didn't greet me right away, but that was fine because I was too busy trying to figure out what I was going to buy. They were all immersed in decorating an elaborate cake, which looked like it was for a Sweet 16 party. After snapping out of the trance I was in- I was ready to order. I recently moved into a new decade of life, so I promised myself I'd cut back on the sugar. So instead of ordering a dozen cupcakes like I did in the past, I ordered two cupcakes (pats self on back). This chocolate chip cupcake spoke to me. I know this flavor isn't out of the ordinary, but it sat there topped with a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie, how could I say "no?" Then there was a beautifully decorated holiday cupcake and I ordered that one too. The cupcakes were affordable, and even if they weren't I still would have purchased them. The staff was nice and it was great to see that they all worked as a team. I mean someone was set to receive one special birthday cake. On the left side of the bakery were tables draped in linen and napkins. It looked like the place where they did dessert tastings for private events like weddings. Back to the cupcakes. I'd just eaten lunch and I usually follow any meal with a dessert. As soon as I got on the highway and stopped at a red light, that chocolate chip cupcake was all mine. It was great! The light was kind of long and someone in a Pick Up Truck next to me was staring in judgment or envy as I devoured this cupcake (shrugs). I saved the other for the next day and it was awesome too. Great bakery. Try it. The bakery is located in a plaza off Washington Road. It's pretty hard to get to around the lunch hour, but if it takes you a second, the wait is worth it. read more

I understand sugarfree is hard to make, since I'm an accomplished Baker myself. I just didnt want to make my own birthday cake so my sweet husband went on the hunt for somewhere that could help. This was the nastiest cake I've ever put in my mouth. Everyone had a bite of their slice then it all went in the trash what a waste. You know what ruined it the most, besides the flavorless yellow cake mix? The Canned frosting. I'd be able to pick that nasty sugarfree frosting from Walmart out of a 50 taste line up. I bought it ONCE. Their chocolate is 100 times better. I dont buy it anymore now that I know how to make my own but you really shouldnt have a bakery or sell cakes under false pretenses. If you cant make it, and have to buy the mix from Walmart, just admit it. I was raised to not say anything if it was rude but I didnt want my husband thinking I liked it and continuing to return here for other special occasions so I told him how I really felt, that it was DISGUSTING. read more

Prior to going to this bakery, my colleague and I went to others to see if they can decorate our teams logo on the cake. The other bakeries were not as confident they could do it so we decided to go to A Piece of Cake. After we decided to stay with A Piece of Cake, the ending product was absolutely spectacular. I visit this place frequently, since a large part of my job consists of delivering goodies to our colleagues for birthdays, thank-you, etc. They have everything: cakes, cupcakes, cookies, pastries, cake pops, petit fours, etc. and they are ALL great! The cake is so flavorful and never dry. I love the service that I get here - they didn't take long to get to know me and my needs, and often offer suggestions for new and creative goodies for my next "run." Worst cake ever and spent $$$$ for it unfortunately. I ordered a cake that would need fondant (as many do to get the look they want)...but little did I know this meant I would get a minuscule amount of true icing. It was terrible. I wish I could provide a measurement for the thinness of the icing but it was soooo small. Everyone at party commented on it and I told them where it came from. The cake (vanilla) is also not worth it. Could have made it myself nothing special about it. SO DISAPPOINTED and Huge waste of money for what was supposed to be a special event. read more

I went to the bakery today to order a cake for a party we are having in a week. I prepaid since my daughter was planning on picking it up. When I got home we realized that we needed to push out the date of our party a few weeks and called to ask for a refund. They said they would charge a 10% cancellation fee (something I was not aware of) for a cake I ordered less than 2 hours before. Probably a blessing because after reading some of the other reviews probably saves me the aggravation. Hopefully these folks will realize how to treat future customers, but we won't be back. read more

Had a birthday cake here for my dad, it was his 60th birthday. I did the picture on top of cake called the edible image. Ok well when I picked it up it looked like a 6 yo cake with swirls on side with the picture on the top and name around base of cake. Not what I was expecting for a 60 yo man. I thought the cake was dry and the decorations horrible. The reason that I had this type of cake done was because I have had this done before with edible image and it was the best cake ever!! Same specifications for the second and it was a sure disappointment. I did receive a credit for the cake but as you know it's the experience of that day that wasn't the best since the cake is normally the center of the celebration. I've ordered three cakes from here and they each looked good and tasted great. So I figured that maybe I would order some pies from them since the cakes were really good. Well, I ordered a sweet potato pie and an apple pie. The sweet potato pie was horrible. The filling was lumpy and bland. I threw it away and made my own. The apple pie tasted and looked good; however, once I sliced it, the filling was runny and the crust crumbled. I placed the apple pie in the refrigerator for almost 24 hrs thinking maybe it had to set and we still had to scrape the apple pie onto our plates. At $15 per pie, I expected way better than what I was given. Don't order their pies only their cakes. read more

Went in and showed the girl twice what I wanted. It was even a picture from their website and went to pick them up and hour before the party when they said they would be ready. Not a commercial bakery, which is a good thing. It's good that they have so much wider of an offering than GiGi's or such. I walked in and was looking for cupcakes for clients. I walked out with cake pops, chocolate covered pretzels, petit fours, cookies, and a few other goodies instead of their cupcakes. I told the clients where they were from and they were giddy. I bought myself a petit four for the drive to my client as well-AMAZING! So moist and good! Only thing I didn't like was that they didn't have stickers saying where it was from-I didn't want my clients to think I made them myself. So disappointed in a baby shower cake picked up on Saturday. Ordered on Tuesday of the same week, paid in full $$$. I couldn't pick it up so my daughter picked it up for me, they tried to tell her it was not paid for. Finally found confirmation I had paid. When putting in the order, I showed the lady the exact sheet cake I wanted on Google, she printed out the picture. I din't change any colors, just the name. Basic white background, blue letters and red airplane. I wish I had told my daughter to take a pic before leaving the bakery. The letters looked like BLACK icing and the extra $15 to draw an airplane was sloppy. The border was sloppy, they did not even change the tip on the airplane. Who wants black icing on a baby shower cake? This cake was made in a hurry and they just lost a customer. read more
