We used A OK Chem Dry out of Huntley, IL. The person who cleaned our carpet was very polite, friendly and considerate, HOWEVER, I do feel we didn't even remotely get what we paid for. It took him about as long to "clean" all the carpets as it takes us to vacuum them. He also did a allergen/bacteria treatment that I'm not convinced did anything except charge us extra. I think it is just an upcharge that doesn't really do anything. And, all the carpets were stiff and crunchy after the cleaning. There is absolutely no noticeable difference in the way our carpets look. Especially the area rug which is a light cream, does not look lighter or cleaner. Our carpet doesn't look any different that it did before he came, with the exception of it being crunchy. A very sneaky way of pricing is that they measure the rooms by laser and charge you per square foot. However that is extremely deceptive, since all four of our bedrooms have queen and king size beds plus furniture, so the amount of square footage carpet area he actually "cleaned" was probably the equivalent of one large bedroom. It is a very sneaky way of overpricing. And they don't tell you how much it will cost till they are standing in your kitchen. The Valpack coupon for $99 for 3 rooms is a total farce. Don't expect that to be your price or even close to it! Our bill came to just under $557!! I feel cheated and bamboozled. The biggest shocker was when he handed me the credit card device which I was expecting to sign. But instead of a signature line, the screen was requesting a tip. This page couldn't be bypassed until you marked something, handed the device back to him so he could see what you tipped him, and then he forwarded it to the signature screen and handed it back to you to sign. I didn't know tipping carpet cleaners was a thing (it's not). The tip page had pre-filled percentages: 15%, 20%, and 25%! At the very bottom there was an area where you could put in your own tip amount. With a bill of greater than $557, I was shocked that he was expecting such a large tip - preinstalled in his payment device with the lowest being $83.55 and going up to $139.25! I didn't buckle under pressure to check one of the percentage boxes, but I did feel pressure to tip him something, so I reluctantly gave him a $20 tip, which I felt was totally undeserved. He was standing right next to me as he gave me this and looking at me and the screen while I was trying to decide what to do, so I felt immense pressure to give him a tip when I really wanted to put $0. I 'm mad at myself for tipping him because it was absolutely not deserved for the following reasons: 1. There's no way he could have done a thorough job in just over an hour -- which also included the time he needed to perform his extra "allergen treatment". He was to clean were the stairs; the 4 bedroom upstairs floor; and a 10x13 area rug in the family. When I expressed surprise that he was done already, he said "Yep, I'm all done." He never broke a sweat the whole time he was "cleaning". Usually you can tell that they worked hard and normally it is two techs who work together for several hours to get a carpet cleaning job done right. Nope - this was 1 guy for just over an hour! His ad says his treatment is a "10 step process that will blow you away!" Ten steps in one hour??? The only thing that blew me away was the price and the fact that nothing was cleaner than before he started and I was out over $500! 2. I think his "allergen treatment" is a bunch of BS and doesn't do anything and it was an upcharge he pressured us into when he got here. Fortunately we didn't fall for getting the extra "pet odor removal". 3. Requesting a tip was incredibly brazen with subtle pressure tactics Afterward, I researched if it was customary to tip your carpet cleaner, and everything I found went along this line: "It's not customary to tip carpet cleaners, but if you feel the job they did was exceptional, a small tip is always appreciated." Note the emphasis on SMALL and on "exceptional". It wasn't optional for us to show appreciation for a job well done. It was EXPECTED! And for a job poorly done, if even at all. I think we paid a bunch of money for a glorified vacuuming of our carpet. He did spend a lot of time having a friendly chat with us, however he was the one that kept the conversation going, and other than being friendly, I certainly do not feel the job was exceptional, or even adequate for that matter. He spent about the same amount of time (an hour or so) talking about his kids as he did "cleaning" our carpets. I certainly don't feel I need to tip for friendly conversation which was initiated and continued by him. So beware! Take Aways: The actual service does NOT do much in the way of sanitizing, allergen treating or actually cleaning the carpets. The add on services are bogus hype. And, be prepared to get pressured into give an unnecessary and unwarranted HUGE tip. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY!!!!!!! read more

Zero Stars. Called them to schedule and specifically requested plastic tarps to protect our hardwood floors under the area rugs. First tine the driver came out with no tarps. We rescheduled, they sent a driver who called to say he was on the way. When I asked him if he had the plastic tarps, he said he had cloth that would be "just as good." I called the office and told them cloth tarps absorb moisture while plastic tarps do not, and canceled the service. I have never dealt with a company with such inadequate internal communication. I've used A Ok a few times over the past few years. For the most part the finished product was great. This time I had an issue of my 5 year old carpet loosening up after cleaning and becoming rippled in a hallway. To correct the situation the carpet had to be re stretched. I'm not sure why this happened as it didn't seem loose prior to cleaning but I did some research and found that this can happen due to age of carpet, multiple cleanings or it just pulling off the tack strips from the cleaning process. Andy, the manager, was very helpful in correcting the situation. He promptly found someone to repair and we split the cost. I was also willing to take some of the responsibility for this situation. It's nice to see a company stand behind it's work and not just blame the customer! It's refreshing these days and I'm happy to give them a 5 star review. read more

Unfortunately a carpet cleaning company I previously hired didn't take care of a cat urine odor problem, so I needed someone who WOULD get the job done. My local circular had an add for Chem Dry, with a guarantee that pet messes and odors would be eliminated. That was the selling point for me. Making an appointment was easy and I was able to get the date I wanted, except for the fact that the woman I spoke with (seemingly at a call center and NOT local) did not understand that there was no coupon on the advertisement (at least none that would apply to me). I told her that I had seen an ad about the pet mess guarantee. She asked me repeatedly over the course of conversation "what the coupon stated." I responded (repeatedly) that there was no coupon with the ad. Oy. Anyhoo, Tony and Joe "#2" arrived 15 minutes EARLY to the 11a-2p window, which was great. (I mean, when does that ever happen?!) They were friendly and answered my questions. I really liked that their cleaning involved equipment (like a shampooer) that rotated on the carpet. It was obvious that my carpet was getting clean! They treated the cat mess with an enzyme solution to break up the crystals causing the odor. It definitely worked - it's been a few weeks and the "sniff test" pans out: no cat odor! And it just SMELLS clean: just leaving/coming home, I could smell the difference. The carpet, with the exception of the area treated with the enzyme solution, dried in about 1.5 hours. The treated area was dry about 24 hours later. I would have liked if they gave "booties" because it was annoying to walk on wet carpet. It was $265 to clean 2 small rooms and treat the cat mess. While they use the laser to measure the room areas (which purportedly came out to 1.5 rooms), I feel like it's a bit of a stretch since my bedroom had very little carpet exposed due to the amount of furniture. I considered giving 4 stars for that reason, but I was thrilled with the timeliness, service, process, and outcome, so am rounding up. The bottom line is that Chem Dry successfully removed the cat urine odor that another company failed to, so I am very pleased. I will absolutely use them for any future carpet cleaning needs. read more

Chem Dry charged double the price that anyone else would charge to clean a 7-foot sofa. Say nothing of what they would've charged to clean a sofa-chaise combo, which they priced as a sectional. Wes came out yesterday and cleaned our wall-to-wall carpets. They had not been cleaned in 4 years. They now look amazing and the house smells better too. The price was reasonable (I used a "3 room special" coupon, then added an extra room and stairs for an extra fee). He managed to get glitter glue out of my daughter's carpet that I thought would never come out. He explained all the fees upfront, offered extras but did NOT do that annoying "salesman hard sell". I appreciate that the square footage calculations include only the carpet that they can reach, so for example they didn't charge for the space taken up by our king bed. Great job Chemdry. The technician's were great but the actually cleaning...meh. We have beige carpet on our upper level. We do not have pets, we do not smoke, we do not eat upstairs or wear shoes on the carpet. We have normal wear" but after the cleaning it looks EXACTLY the same. Seriously, it looks no different than before they came. It doesn't look "fresher" or "brighter" nothing. I am so disappointed. It wasn't cheap. We have a few very small stains in the hallway and...they are still there. On the website and over the phone they advertise that stains were "no problem" and they advertise "superior cleaning". The company couldn't even get our 2 mud stains in the hallway! This company has excellent customer service. We had two area rugs cleaned and weren't completely happy with how the larger one turned out after being cleaned. I posted a less-than-stellar comment on Yelp and I was contacted by Chem-Dry immediately. They came and picked up the rug, cleaned it again and we were satisfied. I appreciate that they responded so quickly and took care of the issue. Therefore, we only had a problem with the pricing. We had a BOGO coupon for 2 area rugs which due to their size had to be taken to their warehouse to be cleaned. We were quoted a price over the phone but when the tech came to pick up the rugs we were told it would be $50 more because the rugs were wool. I have no problem with the fact that wool needs special care but we should have been told that from the get-go. read more

I used this franchise of Chem-Dry and was charged about $400 for 275sq ft of carpet cleaning. They charge $50 per 200 sq foot room but charged me for 2 full rooms. The Technician then said he needed 3 gallons of pet odor remover at $90 per gallon for an area urine that he found with his black light. After agreeing to and paying for it, I was curious as to why he needed 3 gallons; I randomly called another chem dry (not in my area) and asked approx how many gallons of PURT (this is their pet odor remover) was needed for 2 area, I explained that 3 gallons were used & he said, "oh, you must have used A OK". He said that they heard complaints from several other customers that A Ok does this. With that, I contacted corporate & spoke with a customer service person, all she kept telling me was that each chem dry is independent & can set their prices however they choose - no guidelines. She only continually reminded me that bottom line, I agreed to the price and it too bad that now I had "buyers remorse" Apparently, the "mother company" is big enough that it does not care if customers are lost due to overcharging by some of their franchises, A Ok Chem Dry gave a good estimate without letting me know how much "PURT" they will be using to get me to have them come out & by the time they are there - on my only day off before company was going to come - it was too late for me to not use them. They told me the name and said they would give me a discount when I mentioned the complex name. I was stunned by the price and decided to call AOK Chem Dry for a second estimate. The price on the phone was substantially lower and I checked the reviews on yelp. I scheduled an appointment and the two gentlemen, Andy and Sean, were extremely polite professional and thorough with my carpet cleaning. They offered extra services when they got here which I expected but I cannot say enough about what a fabulous job they did. Completely pet safe cleaning chemicals, in and out quickly, drying time fast! Look no further when you need rugs, carpets cleaned. I will be referring them out to all of my friends. A+++++ read more

Used the A-OK carpet service in Campton Hills. Rick who did the work was great but the products itself are a waste of money. I was recommended to use two of the pet shampoos to get rid of the urine smell and stains. $80 each extra. They did get the smell out but now the stains seem to be more noticeable. It was never explained the product may not get rid of the stains. I would never have used two of them. They did come back a second time but it did not improve. The drying of the carpet is not quick either. Took about 24 hours for some of the areas and longer for where it was treated for the pet stains. When asked for a refund on at least some of it they never returned my call. Please do not use them if you have pets or expect the carpet to dry quickly and to remove stains. read more

About A-OK Chem Dry: Their method is excellent for cleaning the carpets, and they don't leave them wet for hours or days like steam cleaning. However, I asked in advance if they move furniture, and they said that they did. When they got here...they were willing to move almost nothing. Moreover, they proposed to go around all the furniture and not even move any of the beds in our four bedrooms. I moved all the furniture myself to get a thorough cleaning. (sigh) If you're going to clean the carpets, then, clean the carpets for goodness sakes. ***STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS*** Here's the story. Came out to clean a double mattress (not, queen, king or California king) and gave an estimate of $110 over the phone for a cleaning and treatment. My wife was here with two young kids. They showed up late (beyond an already 3 hour window). They told her there was 0.5 to 1 gallon of waste (which based on their charges should be $80). The charged her $160 for that portion alone, bringing the total to $268 to clean a mattress, nowhere even close to the initial estimate. The whole time they were trying to up-sell other cleaning services, but not even focusing on the one that we asked for. I then discussed this with the owner of the company, and he said, quote, "We are a small business, we presented a price at the end and she paid it. Can't control what you pay if you agree to pay it." By that statement alone, you can tell they inflated the charge. I also asked him to confirm with the workers that they told my wife it was 0.5 to 1 gallon and why did they charge for 2 gallons. He said he would not check and didn't care. Finally, I asked if he held his employees accountable for being late. He again said he was a small company and said there was nothing he could do. I am frankly amazed that this company is still in business, would recommend anyone and everyone to steer clear. They lie to customers and add incorrect items to the bill to push the bill up. Interestingly, I asked for the owners name - and he actually gave me a fake name. Based on BBB, it is Tim Dodaro. He gave us a courtesy call before arriving for our 8am-10am window (which was much appreciated being early in the morning), arrived promptly, explained everything that he was going to do, offered us some additional services due to our dogs & a baby on the way without being pushy and gimmicky, and was in and out in under 2 hours. One week before the appointment, the office called and said "Minimum of $199". I was shocked and cancelled. They promised carpets would be dry in 2-4 hours, and 10 hours later still soaking wet. Carpets look.....eh. We'll need to call them back as there's a 30 day guarantee on stains and guess what's there! Techs were extremely heavy on trying to upsell. Do yourself a favor and use somebody else - this is not worth it. We've used Howell's in the past and they are just as expensive and do a much better job. read more

I had A OK Chem dry clean 3 rooms of carpeting for me. While the carpet cleaned up fairly well; there still is a couple of darker spots on the carpeting which the technician said they probably would not come out. I used one of their coupons for $40 for 3 rooms, which should have been about $120.00. By the time he added on a fee for this and a fee for that plus a disposal fee, the bill was more than double what the coupon was. And when I made the appointment, I was not told about these other fees. Their coupons are quite deceiving for sure! And chem dry is about triple the cost of steam cleaning and it still took at least 24 hours to dry. I can really say that I won't use this or any other chem dry again. It's way to expensive and a lot more so than steam cleaning. read more

I called to have my father's fabric recliner cleaned in his assisted living facility. The secretary, Gretchen, told me that they charge $110 or something like that to come out and that the chair would only be $60. We discussed cleaning the carpet too so that I got my money's worth which I appreciated. I didn't really need the carpet cleaned and the assisted living place would do it for free, but if I was paying for it, I might as well get it done. I also told the receptionist that the chair was the only thing I needed to be cleaned several times. I explained that his room is on the first floor of an assisted living facility and she said that it would not be a problem. The guys that cleaned the room called and said that they were unable to clean the chair because they dd not have enough hoses to reach his room. They said that the facility would not let them take hoses through the hallway. They said that they cleaned the carpet though and that I would still need to pay the full price. I told them that the only thing I needed cleaned was the chair and if they could not do that then I did not want the carpet done. They said they did not have those instructions. After 3 phone calls, I got a manager and told him that I was not going to pay unless the chair was cleaned. He said that he would call the cleaning crew and see if they could move the chair outside, clean it, then return the chair. After 3 more calls, he said that the cleaning crew went back to the office and got a portable cleaning machine and cleaned it in the room. Why didn't this happen in the first place before I got a call to say it was not possible, sat on the phone for 6 phone calls, and displaced my father from his room for the entire morning? There was no explanation as to why that did not happen. I ended up paying the full price for the cleaning without compensation for the ordeal. I will not be giving them my business again. The only reason I gave them two stars is because the manager and the cleaning crew were very friendly. I used A-OK Chem-Dry back at the end of October 2016 and the team of "Joe/Will" did an awesome job on my two Lazy-Boy Recliner Couches. The couches are 8 years old and were in dire need of a thorough deep clean as there was some pet urine odor in them too. They did a full deep clean along with their pet odor removal process and it worked 100%. We are extremely pleased with the cleaning results. Joe & Will were very professional and there was no over selling as we got exactly what we needed and a great price too for the two couches to be done. Our couches now are free of the pet hair and the urine odor and feel and smell so clean now. I will recommend A-OK Chem-Dry (Joe/Will) to anyone who needs to have their furniture cleaned. I also am 100% pleased with the Chem-Dry pet odor removal process too and recommend it. The Lazy-Boy couch material did not get harmed in any way and it feels good to sit on the couches now even 2 months after the cleaning!! I even have a spray can of Chem-Dry Carpet Stain Remover that I use for some spot cleaning here and there as needed and it does a great clean too. read more

This company is no different from other carpet cleaning companies, and the customer service I received from them was very disappointing. I chose this company because of their claim to use environmentally friendly chemicals and less water (hence a shorter drying time). I did't appreciate the attempts to sell me additional services upon arriving at my house, like a deodorizer and stain protection. Most troubling was that my carpet took over 20 hours to dry--which isn't even close to the 1-2 hours of drying time the website claims. When I called the office to inquire about the length of time my carpet was requiring to dry, I was told that the office was closing for the day and they would not be coming out to further extract my carpet. The woman on the phone said that even though the website says 1 to 2 hours, they always tell customers to expect it to take 4 hours to dry. Why advertise 1-2 hours then? When I talked to someone in the office, about a week later, explaining my disappointment in the service I received, the company took no steps to amend the situation, even though I told them I would not be a returning customer. I paid more money for a product I did not receive (faster drying time) and could have received elsewhere for less. Save your money and use another company. read more
