The Courtyard Bistro - Roses for Valentine's Day - thank you Courtyard Bistro and Amber

Absolutely delightful. The ambience was warm and inviting…read moreas were the staff. There is a lot on the menu. We started with the cheesy potato soup topped with bacon bits and we enjoyed every delicious spoonful. While waiting on our food to come Amber brought us some popcorn and we devoured it, she brought us more :) I've never had gourmet popcorn in a restaurant before our dinner was served. It was way better than bread which would have been very filling. We both had beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon with potatoes and veggies cooked to perfection. The mushrooms were perfect and not swimming in oil. Our steaks were grilled to perfection and Amber did a sneak peak to make sure mine was as I had ordered it. Ron and I shared a crème brûlée and we both decided it was the best we had ever had anywhere. I never leave reviews but this place was so deserving. Amber was lovely and amazing. She is so kind, thoughtful and she had a great sense of humour. Amber made our evening at the Courtyard Bistro so much more special. We are from Ottawa and we both decided it was worth the trip to come back. Vicky and Ron Elias

Shrimp were tasty and cooked well but the risotto was a bit bland. My girlfriend loved her wrap and peach salad though. We ate in the courtyard which was lovely. Servers were very attentive and friendly. It was not a great meal for me but based on previous experience I'll give them another try.

The smoked turkey and Gouda sandwich was excellent. It had cranberry mayo and spicy Dijon, which added extra flavor interest. I also had a slice of coconut cream pie, which was my first bite of it in years. I need to make this soon at home! How could I have forgotten how much I love this dessert?! Anyway, Alice's was fantastic. If you're nearby and don't go to Alice's, you're missing out!

It was quiet empty when we spent our time here, so it made for a calm, relaxing experience. Shared a french fry with the baby and the hubs shared a chicken finger meal with my other (big) baby :) Super cute and relaxing interior. After hanging out inside here for a bit my kid said she wanted to move to Carp, so we can come to this cafe everyday! Seating outside or inside. Pay when you order and then they bring you your food! Friendly and welcoming service. I was intimidated before stopping in being with two kids, but this cafe is 100% kid friendly! After checking out the unisex bathroom, the kid and I discovered a rack of toys, games and blankets. So fun and adds extra charm to this restaurant. So coming back here!

The food was GREAT!! The soup of the day was potato bacon. Homemade. Came with garlic bread, also fresh made bread. Got the hamburger to share!! Again great!! Would have liked French fries instead of the home fries. The reviews giving 1-2 stars are NOT ACCURATE. It's an older building could use a few upgrades and fix ups, but overall a very good experience.

It's a large place inside but the tables were set up a bit oddly. It wasn't the most efficient use of space, but maybe that's good because the kitchen could hardly keep up with the few tables that were here. Let me start by saying though that the people who work here are really nice. Very friendly! It took about 25 minutes for anyone to come take our order and it was another about 35 minutes to get our first appetizer.. I ordered a salad. So I was a bit frustrated with the wait. The salad was heavily dressed but at that point we were so hungry I don't think we cared much. It took some time before we saw our mains. I think we were there for just over an hour before one of our main dishes came out. I was a little annoyed that they didn't apologize or even check in on us. I will say too, don't expect anything spectacular in terms of the food. You're at a motel style diner in the middle of no where. My partners pasta was completely over cooked to mush and sadly my burger was burned... We really didn't want to send it back and end up waiting another hour though so we just ate what we could. I didn't expect much going in, and I wasn't much disappointed. But the people seemed really really nice.

So, looking for another option we droves to Maynooth and found Sun Run. It was very busy! There was seating indoors as well as outdoors. With it being a rather chilly morning, we got lucky and snagged one of the tables as another party was leaving. You place your order at the counter and they'll bring it out to you. They have many baked goods like homemade Pop Tarts, Cupcakes and Honey Crullers. But they also have breakfast and lunch sandwich options. The 3 others in my party got breakfast sandwiches, and I got a sandwich from the lunchtime menu. I opted for the grilled cheese. I'm so glad it did- it was great! The bread was baked in house and you could really taste the quality. Then where was 2 types of cheddar with thinly sliced apples ham and some honey. It was delicious and wasn't too greasy or decadent. Everyone else at my table raved about their sandwiches too, including my sister-in-law who got the buckwheat gluten-free option and loved it so much, she made an inquiry as to if she could buy some of the bread to take home. While they don't sell the loaves, it says a lot that she was moved enough to even ask. Overall a great experience here. Sun Run saved the morning- there's a total lack of breakfast restaurants open on Sunday in these parts, so we were really happy to not only get a meal, but impressed by how delicious it was!
