Lots of home cooked favourites to be had. We both had the Big Al burger platter. Delicious homemade patty lightly spiced and freshly cooked, bacon, cheese and the works. The platter comes with fries, rings and coleslaw. A very substantial meal I must say. They have a daily special so a couple days later I dropped by with my son. He had the Big Al platter and I had the special which was a chilly cheese dog. The dog was sloppy so Al brought me a fork with it but OMG it was good. Homemade chilli too. The decor is diner style with lots of antique radios, cameras and old house hold items on the shelves. Al built and raced cars in his youth and there are lots of pictures of old cars on the walls, one with him and his wife beside his 74 AMX. A great spot for breakfast and lunch. Closes at 2pm. I got away with Chorizo, some lean ground beef and some beautiful olive oil. Is this place cheap? No! But, I pay for quality without batting an eye. Especially foodie stuff. Next round was a Tuesday aft. Ahhh. Better. I could see everything, not so packed. It was just after a long weekend so some things were sold out but I grabbed more lean beef, a chicken parm portion, a beef Jamaican patty and a stuffed potato. All were good! This Foodland also includes a deli and bakery, and the vastness of the store is really great for a Foodland, which took over the building where Price Chopper use to be. It is open 24 hours a day and has hosted a drive in youth event in the summer. Next to No Frills, Foodland is the other grocery store in Bancroft. It is located beside the Canadian Tire.

There's no signage to indicate they sell sandwiches, but reviews on Google said just ask the lady for "the sandwich" which is what I did. I got 2, one for my husband and one for myself. The sandwich comes with whatever meats they have at hand, whatever cheese they have at hand, lettuce, pickles, mustard and mayo. I asked the lady to hold the mayo and she did. The Sandwich is $6.50, which is a pretty good deal nowadays. The cheese was a delicious smoked Swiss and the meats were a salami and 2-3 different types of ham. It was delicious! The bread was a bit harder and chewier than my preference, but it was still good. They had some exotic Fanta and Schweppes drinks that I had never seen before. They also had lots of packaged (shelf-stable) cookies and candies from Eastern Europe. Service was friendly and efficient. I would definitely return for another sandwich if I was in the area and craving a sandwich. Lots of free parking in the Commons of Kanata Lakes, the plaza where this deli is located.
