They take good care of our grandchildren's band instruments. I would recommend here for anything related to music.

Finally found myself in Akron with time, so I dragged The Fambly into Guitar Department. Now THIS…read moreis more like it. Every inch of wall has something playable hanging therefrom. Nearly every inch of floor has drums, amps, cabs, amps on top of cabs, cabs on top of OTHER cabs. I had only been in the store about ninety seconds when I overhear a guy nearly buying a Kay Speed Demon guitar. Now just having one to look at is pretty great, but this one was also for sale. You could, given a couple hundred, just walk out with that baby and be cutting a demo before dark. (They really respect the mongrel, here, by which I mean the instrument as well as the customer. Dan "Loving Ohio From a Distance" Auerbach used to wander around the shop hoping to get noticed... I mean "shopping." Yeah, shopping. He's one of those snobbishly anti-snobbery guitar guys, who fetishize the crappy guitars their blues gods played, while playing them through a quarter million dollars worth of effects and electronics.) But enough about success. Found a vintage Fender volume/tone pedal. Well, that just had to go home with me. Bought a couple other things. Time was, there was a great shop like this every ten blocks or so in every city in Uh Murh Cuh Now? "Bro! Just buy that on-line." Right. Buy a guitar, without playing it? Buy an amp, without hearing it? Good luck with that plan, Mr. Malmsteen. They do consignments, too, which is a great way to either upgrade or downgrade your studio, bandroom or man cavity. These guys deserve your business. They sure helped me, and I'll bet they will help you. While we were there, I overheard a drummer, tired from being ridiculed by other musicians, decide to change instruments. Guy goes up to the sales counter and says, "I'll take that red trumpet over there, and that accordion." After a second, the store clerk says ,"OK, you can have the fire extinguisher but the radiator stays."

I'm writing this in response to some of the negative criticisms I just saw on here. Mike can't compete with GC or the other chain store volume discounts but what had was professional knowledge of the products. Yes he criticizes a Taylor 400 series guitar their tops are thin they wand to get as many tops out of a slab of wood...there is shortage of luthier grade wood you know. That guitar had the binding coming loose it belonged to someone famous... I owned 5 Taylors: 955c Florentine, 65512, 612c, 612 Km Blackie, 312ce got rid of all five no mid range liked my Martin guitars more hands down. Electric players like Taylor's, they improved them years later somewhat but I still don't like them. He was right anything and everything he said is spot on. And the affordable brands he chose were great for harder time making it possible for people to have an instrument that was in their price range. I was once in retail photo my boss told me we are sales person we advice and educate the customer for the best sales outcome...We not are sales clerks that ring you you up or say I don't know about this or what this is...zero service, to get quality service you pay a little more...your neck moved Mike adjusts it for you free... I've seen him do that...tube guy that was bitching about prices maybe they were the repair techs tubes that were on consignment? And most capos are 20.00 you didn't mention the brand or model number. And the guy that wanted a military break...you could have found a lefty and he would have set it up, or ordered one. I rarely see any lefty's anywhere. Special order even at Martin. My dad was Eastern Orthodox priest and he always said "you catch more flies with honey than with Vinegar"...Try some kindness all of you whining spoiled entitled complainers...God I wish Mike was with us...the world was a better place while he was alive!

Stopped in a couple of times at the previous location…read more Prices a bit high, bought a couple of 12ax7s anyway. Prior to that I was sending guitars to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and had a request for a lefty acoustic. I had plenty of right handed guitars to send, but no lefty's. Did a right hand to left conversion and needed some nut material to make a left handed nut. Even after explaining what I was doing and where the guitar was going and to whom it was going to, Mike still charged me his exuberant price for the material. Being in a bind I reluctantly paid his price. Finished the guitar and sent it to an FOB in Iraq...,.no thanks to any generosity from Pekar Music.

Having just purchased a new phone, I had been looking for a suitable case for it. An on-line search…read morefound one from the phone manufacturer, whose website indicated they were available at Best Buy at Chapel Hill. I made the drive over, and when I entered the store I was immediately stopped by a guy asking what I was there for. When I told him, he "escorted" me to the phone cases and pointed out the one I had shown him on my phone. I asked if I could see it, as pictures on a website are sometimes deceptive. His answer? "You can look at it all you want once you buy it"! Okay then. Well, I was pretty sure it would work since it was from the phone manufacturer, so, in spite of the steep price, I went ahead and purchased it. Once out in the car, I found that it didn't protect the camera lenses (?!). Given that, I turned around and went back into the store to return it. I got through the front door without being stopped, but when I got in the return line, the same guy came over and started harassing me for returning it. I've been considering getting a new television, and my experience with returning a TV to a Best Buy while living in Arizona had already made me put Best Buy at the bottom of the list for sources. This experience with something as minor as a phone case confirmed my opinion. There is no way I would ever even consider buying a TV from this company. I will never again even pass through their doors. Best Buy has a motto that "the customer is always wrong". Why deal with such an organization?
