Avoid this locksmith at all costs. I paid over $800 for a lock, and within a few months the door stopped closing properly. When I called to report the problem, the owner didn't try to fix it, didn't listen, and instead started insulting me. The behavior was shocking, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. I see that most folks have a great experience with this company. Unfortunately, I did not. At a home where I was dog sitting, I was locked out of the home due to a stupid mistake on my part. The owners have a keypad lock on the door and don't use the doorknob. Without thinking, I engaged the lock on the doorknob and couldn't get back into the house. I partnered with the owner who called A Locksmith & Key Company. A gentleman named Osworth arrived at the home and made an attempt to open the door using a plastic sheet to depress the doorknob. When that didn't work, he said he would have to cut the doorknob off. He said the doorknob was defective because there was a piece of adhesive tape over the keyhole. I told him I doubted the knob was defective, that the tape was merely a reminder not to use the key. When I asked if he would try picking the lock he seemed surprised and said, "Oh. You want me to try that?". What on earth?! Of course I wanted him to try that! He quickly tried picking the lock without success. At this point, I really questioned whether it truly didn't work or he was looking to rake in extra for a new doorknob. He said it would be $100 to cut the doorknob off plus labor. WHAT?! Already, he stated that his basic service would be $225. However, when he got the homeowner on the phone, she indicated that she'd been told the charge was $150. By this point, he had cut the doorknob off and the homeowner was not happy. Understandably so. I did not have a good feel about Osworth from the very beginning. He seemed to me to be someone who saw a mark. He may not be a true reflection of the company's values or standards, but unfortunately, he WAS the face of the company that evening and he was someone who smooth talked while taking advantage of a customer. I hope not to need a locksmith in the future, however, if I do, I will not contact this establishment. read more

I had recently moved into a new place in Forest Hills and needed to have my locks changed. I initially reached out to Abba's Locksmith through Yelp, and received a prompt message from the owner Riaz discussing what was needed. I sent him a picture of my door locks and he was able to give me a couple of lock options and quotes for each option immediately. We confirmed date/time, which was on a Sunday evening and I was pleasantly surprised when Riaz arrived on time. I'm always so use to the "Your tech will arrive between the hours of 1pm-5pm", and was thinking this would be another one of those situations where I'd have to wait long for them to arrive (stupid Time Warner). I was wrong. Riaz was courteous, knowledgeable and very quick. In addition to changing my locks, he helped with securing my loose knob and pointed out to me that one of the springs inside my door was broken which is something my management co. would need to change. All in all, the appointment took about 30mins. Prices were fair, and I gave additional tip to Riaz for being an all around swell guy. This locksmith is a real pro. I tried finding someone off of google and was redirected through a chain of lead gen companies that farm out the job to random "locksmiths" on the road. My first failed attempt with one of the lead gen locksmiths was a disaster. Not only did they charge me for coming by to tell me they couldn't do the work (install electronic latch lock on a mortise door), they tried pawning me off to another colleague if theirs, who told me it was "impossible." I called a locksmith on a Sunday night when I locked myself out going to the laundry room. They said 15-20 minutes to arrive it took closer to 40. He said depending on the lock it will start at $65. Somehow my lock was so special it cost $225 to get in and of course had to be replaced which he charged me an additional $185. The person who had installed the lock two days prior did it for $85 all in. Now I realize it was off time and an emergency but I do feel the price was very inflated. Update: owners of this place contacted me right away to make this situation better. He said he would return my money but I told him I don't want it back as they did the work. He said he would come out today to see if he can finish the job. I was going to update it after his work today but I just really appreciate that the owner was very involved and honest with me. Anyone who is looking to get good courteous and professional service should follow Riaz and see how he deals with his customers to keep them for the long run. Abbas locksmith responded the fastest with a quote and schedule so I decided to use them for my installation. The owner messaged me a price after I had told him my door was metal and I wanted to install electronic lock and new door knob. I had told him that tbere will need to be new holes drilled, if not i could have done it myself. I asked him if the total was without tax, which he told me it was so I had went and grabbed exactly that plus 20 for tip. He told me that he would come around 730 or 8 same day but ended up sending one of his technicians instead because he was tired and wanted to do a good job on my door. Understandable but since I won't be home the next day I asked him for his technician. The technician showed up 30 minutes later than promised. He came and dropped his tools everywhere on my hardwood floor and left scratches. He kept saying how tough this job is etc etc. He threw around my new locks that I had purchased enough to worry me. Then he told me that the door knob was completely wrong set and said he couldn't do it. He wasn't trying to mean but I could tell he did not want to do the job. In the end, it took him 90 minutes to install half of the job that was promised between the owner and me. But whatever.... I can deal with it Cuz I bought the wrong door knob set. The real problem arises here: before the tech left, he wrote me a receipt. The owner and I had agreed on 150 for two different installations and the technician decided to add a 90 dollar service charge. I told him that was not the promise and he said, fine I'll cut it in half. Then when I said I don't have cash to cover all of it if he wants tip, which then he agreed to "waive" the service charge. Not only this but my door was quite damaged during the process of installing. The lock also doesn't run smoothly but I can deal with that. I'm beginning to think that I should have actually asked around before just simply trusting Abbas locksmith. Something about this tech was off and made me quite anxious throughout the process. I went from being locked inside my own apartment to having a brand new lock and set of keys in about 30 minutes! (And for a very fair price.) Omar answered the phone and was knowledgable and professional. He sent Riaz over, who arrived in 15 minutes with a brand new lock. I had a choice between having my old lock repaired or getting a new one. In a few minutes Riaz had the new lock installed, and I got to keep the old one in case I want to repair it and switch it back out when I move. Of course on this super cold day, I locked myself out of my car. Luckily I had my phone in my pocket and was able to find myself a locksmith who arrived within 25 minutes which wasn't bad, considering it was during rush hour and he told me it would be within that time frame. He advised me I should wait inside a local shop and he would call me so I would not have to wait in the cold. (Great idea on his part since I thought I would have to wait by the car.)
