When we stopped in they were doing an Easter egg hunt where children could find one egg each and it had little treats in it, and my daughter was delighted to find her very first easter egg and get a little ring and piece of chocolate. No, it's not on 63rd Street--that's an homage to when the owner first made soap as a girl whilst living in Chicago. But of course though they have cute little events going on here, they also have some nice products. Lots of hand soaps, handmade, with varying scent profiles. They have other bath and body products like bath bombs, lotions, oils, and so on. They also have some accessories--I bought another headband for facials and they had some sponges and the like. I also heard her telling another customer that they offer classes, though I'm not sure if it's for soap making or one of the other products here, but definitely something to check out for something different to do.

This small shop caught my eye as we were moseying down Third Street in Geneva last weekend. Any shop using the word "apothecary" tends to pique my interest since they often carry more niche brands, or higher end skincare, and as someone who loves exploring skincare I am quick to stop in; this was no different. I was a little surprised to see as much Dr. Hauschka here as they carry since that's a line you can get at Whole Foods. It was also a surprise that as a shop specializing in makeup and skin care that they didn't appear to carry a sunscreen--and I mean an a product that was solely sunscreen, not a foundation or lip color with SPF 30 or something. Sunscreen is probably the most important thing one can use in their routine, but you wouldn't guess that at a shop focused on skincare? They have a LOT of scents here. It's a small shop and it can quickly become overwhelming, as well as hard to tell the perfumes apart. Both of us customers in store quipped about the lack of coffee beans, and learned that they had them once and when they spilled they stopped using them. I was curious about one but I wasn't able to tell what it truly smelled like since one of the other folks in the shop had sprayed several already. The person working gave me a little tester to take home, though, which I appreciated. I would give this store another whirl if I was in the area. But overall I was a bit disappointed in their skin care options and lack of detail (the missing sun protection). They have a lot of makeup here too but I didn't really look at that much (it was somewhat dark in the shop so I wouldn't have been able to see a true color anyway). The building is not accessible; there are several steps to get into the shop. It's street parking only.

Imagine my surprise to find the store had relocated to Fox Valley Mall! I spoke with the owner and learned that her natural products were born out of necessity to treat eczema and psoriasis. I loved the backstory, friendly customer service, and warm interaction. I bought one of the many lotions and a couple natural haircare items. I used the lotion and can honestly and happily say that it is the most nourishing lotion I've ever used (I've gone thru many) and it smells good. It doesn't just sit on the skin, but absorbs for all day moisture. You know it's good if your hands still feel moisturized after handwashing in public bathrooms! It helps with my chapped lips during winter. Same thing with their hand balm, it has literally has saved me this winter. My left hand usually gets super red on the knuckles, which hurts a lot, and sometimes get red tiny dots. With one day of reapplying the hand balm, the pain was gone, and the redness went down tremendously. Once I run out I am stocking up on both. Can't wait to smell their different scents i've read online!! I'm not a big bar soap user but has been wonderful on my skin and smells great. I'm very grateful I received this as a gift, I was able to discover such amazing and natural company for essentials!!
