Found this place along the St Clair River and decided to stop in. It's not fancy, but it's got a relaxed vibe, and a great view of passing freighters from their deck. I love that, that's all I needed that day - a cold beer and a chill place to kick back. I wasn't super hungry when I stopped, so I just ordered some clam chowder and a side of fries. Both items were very good. Prices are very reasonable, too. It's so effing expensive to dine out anymore, so I'm happy when I find a place like this. Service was prompt and friendly, no issues there either. If you're in the area, it's worth a stop especially if you like to see freighters like I do :) read more

Great location , right on the water. We sat outside and watched the boats come in for lunch and ship off again. Best Long Island I've ever had, but the 2cnd wasn't as good. The poor bartender who was the wait staff and the bartender really had to run around, but did it with style and grace and a sense of humor. We would return here in the future. Tried this place for the first time tonight since my family and I were in the area. Place is kind of hard to find. Sign is off the road but the restaurant is right off the water. My family and I sat outside on the patio on one of the last few warm nights of the summer. I loved that the table and chairs were outdoor patio furniture. Very homey! The view of the water was very pretty. Was nice to watch boats drive by. I ordered the Turkey Bacon Melt, minus tomato and onion. It came on a fresh ciabatta bun. Loved that all the sandwich was piping hot. Bun was very fluffy and bacon was perfect. Not too chewy and not too crispy. Lots of flavor. I tried the french fries and they were one of the best I ever had. Freshly seasoned and homemade. Large portion of fries when you order an entree. An additional $1.50 when you make your sandwich a deluxe with fries or cole slaw. Service could have been a lot better. Not many people dining in and service was slow. Food took awhile but tasted delicious when it finally arrived. Inside dinning had plenty of tables, a bar, keno, and a jukebox. Lots of TV's as well. Women's bathroom is tiny!! You are kissing the door when trying to do your business. I'm warning you. I have a tiny frame and am small and my knee's were touching the door. Also, sink is after the stalls. The blackened grouper is amazing and fresh! They often times have live music and the staff is usually pretty attentive. They are slightly overpriced, but such is the world we live in now a days. The restaurant is a tad dated, but the view is great if you're inside or out on the deck. I can't speak to the bar/pricing, as we don't drink, but looks like those who do enjoy it and haven't heard complaints. We live about 20 minutes away and like the "country" drive along the water, good food, cheap entertainment! read more

Love their outdoor seating! We got their grouper sandwich, which was cooked perfectly & their Caesar salad with blackened shrimp which was also yummy. Service was fine & our food was cooked perfect. Only negative comment I have is the women's bathrooms. Very tiny stalls; something I'd be extremely leery of using if I was consuming LOTS of drinks & had to use more than once! My husband and I have been here a couple of times and witnessed the owner yelling at customers. Not a good sign. After reading several reviews about the behavior of this guy, it appears this wasn't an isolated incident. He was nice to us but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of his hairpin trigger and anger issues. For that reason alone, we won't be returning. There are several other fun restaurants on the water to choose from and you don't have to worry about being threatened by the owner of any of them. in addition, the staff seems almost depressed and very slow, there are a huge number of flies on the patio and the food is a bit lower than average. if you're looking for a nice meal out, skip this place. read more

Great View of the river. It's been a great spot to eat for years but things have changed. New waitresses are not trained and they are left to fend for themselves without a manager. Just like our previous visits we Ordered a plain old grouper dinner with no seasoning (which included a side salad). Not the upgraded pontchartrain dish that comes with a lobster sauce. When the order came it was highly seasoned and with the pontchartrain sauce. Sent it back. It was replaced with a half cooked piece of grouper. To top it off we were charged for a full size Caesar salad. As much as we liked this place we're taking it off our list of places to go. We complained, but as I mentioned earlier, there wasn't anyone with the authority to address our issues on site. read more

Stopped in today for the first time for a drink, we sat at the bar in the almost empty barroom and waited about 5 minutes to be spoken to. The attached tiki bar and deck were nearly full so we assumed the bartender had to serve the indoor and outdoor bars. Turns out the Manager schedules about half the amount of staff he should. They were out of clean cups and the tables on the deck were coming inside and waiting for the one bartender (who was very pleasant)to give them drinks or refills. As we were leaving a dishwasher was arriving. My sister said the restroom was a dump. Under proper management this place might be nice. read more

Pretty much as advertised the service is a tad slow, expect to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged. I ordered blackened grouper and clam chowder. Chowder was decent, prolly a basic store bought type but good none the less. I was pleased to see Atwater on draft, bonus for sure. Unfortunately the refills are far and few between. Blackened grouper was pretty good, not prepared exactly the way I like "blackened" fish cooked but thats more my taste. Overall not a bad place to eat, service seemed average to me dispite some of the bad reviews. The view of the water was nice, the patio was pretty busy with several waitresses dedicated to them. I imagine you would need to get there early or wait for a good table, at 7:15 on a Sunday it was pretty busy. read more

Don't waste your time or your money, plenty of other places with a river view along the road... I would not go back. First it took forever to be greeted. They let people smoke at the tables outside along the water that's great if your smoker but not if you're trying to eat your dinner and you don't want smoke in your face from the table next to you. First time and possibly the last. Service was a bit slow and fogetful. Had to ask a few times for refills on drinks, never received the bread basket. Ordered the grouper and one was stone cold, had to be sent back and the others were mushy, luke warm with zero flavor. At $14-16 a plate, it's pretty disappointing. The fries looked good but were ok. Tried this place for the first time. Looks ok on the outside and unfortunately the weather didn't permit outdoor sitting. The restaurant is in desperate need of cleaning and new everything. The view is spectacular though. Although I had a dead fly smashed right on the window where I was sitting. I had the grouper and it was very good. The redskin potatoes were good too. My husband had a burger with a steamed bun. The bun smelled like cleaning products. Service was good but I don't think we will ever go back. This place needs a serious makeover. We had an 85th Birthday Party here with over 100 people attending. Everything was PERFECT! Andy guided us in choosing the buffet menu, including appetizers. He even made a quick phone call and was able to hire a guitarist when we struggled for weeks trying to get one. On the day of the party the staff brought in decorations from our cars, and helped us decorate. When guests arrived the drinks were flowing, and the buffet always full and attended. My family was visiting from Florida and we took them to AJ's to see the boats, the view was beautiful. We sat by the windows with a view of the water, it was 90 degrees outside, and felt about 85 degrees in the restaurant. It was almost too hot & humid to eat. 3 out 4 people in our party got the Icelandic cod, with fries and coleslaw. Their French fries were awesome; fries are real sliced potatoes that are fried to perfection. The fish on the other hand was horrible, it tasted like we were eating the worm that caught the fish. We actually sent it back once, and the next batch tasted just as bad. I was very disappointed in our experiences, and felt embarrassed that my family had to endure this while on vacation. Management did nothing to arrange a resolution with us on this matter. read more

Came here for new years with my boyfriend. Order the chicken wings, steak and mushroom appetizer, and fries. Fries were actually pretty good, good seasoning and seemed home made. The steak and mushrooms were over cooked and covered in oil. The chicken wings were honestly scary, they smelled and tasted rancid, took one bite and became too scared to take another. The service was alright, unfortunately this place has a TON of potential that is going unused, this place could be all around great up it is well below average. My second time here... The outside dining and freighter watching is awesome... But the service was sorely lacking. We arrived at 7pm and didn't receive our meal until nearly 8:45pm. We waited for drinks, waiting for appetizers and then STILL had to wait for silverware. The inside of the restaurant didn't seem to have working air conditioning, and today was a 90 degree day. The ladies room had the main door propped open for ventilation, and the stall door didn't lock, and had the graffiti one would expect in an inner city middle school. The food was good... This horrible establishment gets 0 stars from us but you have to put one to get your review posted. Where do I begin to describe the horrible experience we had at this place? 1st clue should have been when we were walking into the building and a very unhappy couple were leaving being followed by a Sammy Hagar wanna-be who was saying "this is why I hate Michigan!" We asked to be seated outside and we were seated in the section of a very young girl who obviously had very little serving experience and may even be too young to serve alcohol. Mind you the place was not very busy. Maybe 10 cars in the parking lot and a couple boats docked. We each ordered a beer which were not cold. We ordered a simple fish sandwich and fish & chips dinner within 10 minutes. We noticed that a family seated near us who had the same waitress were unhappy. They had waited along time for their food with empty glasses and when their order came part of it was missing. 10 minutes later the rest of their order came out but they refused it and then waited another 20 minutes for the item to be taken off their bill. They were clearly unhappy when they left. Our waitress never looked our way when she came out of the building and my husband had to go inside to order another beer. While inside he went to the men's room which he described as disgusting. The stall has no door on it. A young man with an apron on came out of the stall and left without washing his hands. My husband followed him and saw that that he was a busboy and didn't go into the kitchen but never the less disgusting. The ladies room was a disgusting dark hole that had no hand soap nor even a dispenser. I did tell someone about it but got the impression that it was the least of their problems. Good thing I carry hand sanitizer. As we sat waiting for an hour we noticed that people around us who came in after us, who also had different waitresses, were being served their food. Our waitress had been M.I.A. for several minutes so we motioned for the young man who sat us to please find out what was taking so long with our order. He asked if we wanted to talk to the waitress or the manager. We assumed that at that point there was no use talking to the waitress so we asked to see the manager. That's when the real problem began. At that time the Sammy Hagar wanna-be who had been slamming beers at the tiki bar came over and rudely demanded that we relax and would look into where our food was. The young man hurriedly ran to our table and dropped off 2 more beers and ran off. Sammy Hagar wanna-be walked over and rudely told us that our food would be out in 5 minutes and to relax and enjoy the "entertainment". There is no entertainment but a bad radio station. He walked back 10 seconds later and started berating us for being impatient and said that he hates people from Michigan and that people in Florida will wait 2 hours for their food. I told him that this was our first visit there and that we were not impressed with the service and that he was rude. Instantly Sammy Hagar wanna-be turned into Hulk Hogan on steroids. Turns out this unhinged man is the owner. He was clearly inebriated and started screaming obscenities at us and demanded that we leave and never come back to his restaurant. As we stood up to leave he got nose to nose with my husband and threatening him physically. He told us that our problem was that we needed more sex. He literally stalked us out the door screaming and threatening us. He than came back to the door as we were getting in our car and said that if we left without paying our tab he would call the cops. We said no problem but we hadn't even gotten a bill and were literally running for our lives. My husband through a $20 on the bar which more than covered the 4 beers we drank and left. We then understood why that angry couple was leaving as we were coming in an hour earlier. We only wish they would have warned us. This man has serious mental and anger problems. He lost 3 patrons in 1 hour and who know how many others who watched this debacle. We have since read all of the reviews on this place and this man's bizarre behavior on yelp, the yellow pages and menupix and found that this has been going on for a long time and he runs people out regularly. It probably was for the best because I'm glad we didn't eat the food. Bottom line, don't patronize this crazy man's business. There are better restaurants in the area that treat their customers with respect. read more
