Came in for the first time from out of town for breakfast and decided to give AJ's a chance. Hands down one of the best spontaneous decisions made. Walked in and we were greeted with a chill vibe - guys working were super friendly and welcoming. Ordered a platter with eggs and home fries (super tasty potatoes that were well seasoned and had a slight crunch on the outside), and a breakfast bagel. The staff were very accommodating and kind. The prices were also quite reasonable. Will absolutely visit again if we're in the area. Overall, it was an eggsellent find read more

A J's Lunch Box - two plates of food - Delis Near Me - West Caldwell, New Jersey

Called and placed an order for Cheesesteak Plain and a Slam Dunk. While running around in Jersey on errands. Really enjoyed the sandwiches from A J's Lunch Box. Something about the bread when it is fresh, soft and chewy. Filled with meat and gives me the feeling of being in Philly for one of their CheeseSteaks sandwiches. Reasonably priced and have been ordering from them for the past two days via the phone and picked up the food. Will be back again. read more

I stopping at AJ's for lunch early in the week and liked it so much, I stopped back in again later in the week. This place has the feel of your old fashioned, small town deli, which I loved. The customers all seem to know each other and the guys running the deli seem to know most of the customers. The first visit, I started off with a grilled cheese with tomato and bacon on rye. It was delicious! Nice big sandwich and reasonably priced. The next time I went for the tuna melt and loved that too! Coffee was good also. Prices are great. Parking is on street, may have to walk a little, but not bad. People working here are extremely busy but friendly. Being able to play lottery here is very convenient. You can also call your order in which saves time. read more

A J's Lunch Box - Grilled Chicken Wrap - Delis Near Me - West Caldwell, New Jersey

Great homemade local food local family sausage peppers eggplant meatball vodka sauce say no more check it out you'll love it

I've been here a few times. Mostly for breakfast on the go and to grab lunch on the go when in a hurry. Service is quick and the food is very good (even during peak hours in the AM). Unlike some other spots, I see the care they take in prepping their food. I have never had a breakfast sandwich or sub from here ever miss the mark. Prices are fair as well. What I appreciate the most is when I also pick up for a classmate or friend too that they label the sandwiches. No place near me does this even when requested. Even though the items may be different in the bag, it emphasizes they put the effort in as opposed to stuffing your brown bag full and yelling next. Will come here from now on for all my morning on the go needs. read more

Great hometown deli , good food and sandwiches ! had the chicken bruschetta sandwich, Will definitely go back !

Was working on a customers house across the street, figured I'd check this out for a good ol deli sub. It's your typical local deli atmosphere. Walked right up and order a 6in sub, an Arizona, and a bag a chip all for $9 which is extremely fair. The sub itself was a quality sub. Tasted fresh and juicy. If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely come by again. First time here so I haven't tried anything else. When I was there, saw some other men who were on the job and stop by for a quick bite. It's definitely your grab and go type place. But they do have a 3-5 seats if you did want to eat there. read more

A J's Lunch Box - Turkey provolone sub - Delis Near Me - West Caldwell, New Jersey

Another place I've been meaning to check out forever now and finally got around to it today. I ordered a turkey and Swiss sloppy joe with fries. The prices are great here, it's only $1.50 to add fries to your order so for the generous sized sandwich and good size side of fries it cost $8.55. The place is dark and looks a little run down inside but I liked the old fashioned look to it. The fries were really good, I love crinkle cut fries and they were done to perfection with a great taste. The sandwich was pretty good, wasn't crazy about the bread because it had an odd taste to it. I would definitely come back and try other sandwiches! read more

A J's Lunch Box - Menu since it's nowhere to be found online - Delis Near Me - West Caldwell, New Jersey

This is a hidden gem in Caldwell. The building is not much to look at but it holds a lot of character from many years ago. Inside, it's counter seating or take out. It's best to call ahead to place a take out order. There is a pretty extensive menu, all at very reasonable prices. The best thing about this place is the food and the atmosphere. Everything I have ever ordered had exceptionally good taste. Some of my favorites are the Reuben sandwich and the chicken fingers. There are several flavors of coffee to choose from and they are all full bodied but not overbearing like Starbucks. Also you can buy 2 cups for what Starbucks charges for 1. I think the one aspect that keeps me coming back is the owner. Allan makes you feel like one of the family. He seems to really enjoy what he is doing, never complains and always has a smile. I highly recommend A J's Lunch Box. read more

Friendly place with great sandwiches. Parking is tight but we'll worth the effort. We will be back.

Ok. Now why did it take me 35 years living a block away from this place to not go here? I've been complaining to friends you can't get a decent sandwich anymore... just chains like Mike's or Subway...or overpriced sandwiches at Calandra's Italian village....And today on my walk I decided to pop in. Place is meticulous, service great, sandwiches hearty and reasonable. Good menu. I can see why there are lines of cars parked at lunchtime. I will be back. Yum!!! After my next sandwich, if everything holds true, I will up to 5 star. read more

A J's is a great deli! I have had the opportunity to eat there many times during my visits to NJ. Several times I have been at events that we had A J's Lunch Box cater, and the food was always very good, and presentation for the events were great. Allan is very helpful when planning the food for events, on recommending how much to order based on the quantity of people, event time, etc. Go there and enjoy a great meal! read more

So I can walk here. I can pull up in my car. I love it. Great owner. Nice staff. Best coffee around. I stop in the morning and it makes my commute complete. The tuna is excellent. A J's Lunch Box - Delis Near Me - West Caldwell, New Jersey

Ok so here's the deal. I can't go there for food anymore. I wanted a bagel and the guy at the register took my order and I watched him make the bagel with cream cheese WITH HIS BARE HANDS. Never washed them. Then he came back and took cash from me and used the register. All i could do was imagine how he had handled money ALL Morning and then touched my bagel. Total grossness. I had to throw it out when I Walked out. I just couldn't get myself to even think about eating it. To top it off the place smelled like body odor. Probably Because it's the go-to place for construction/electrical/plumbers in the area. Yuck! Sorry guys but I'll only come to you to grab a soda or bag of chips now. read more

So disappointed the past couple of times I've ordered! Our order was wrong the past couple of time with the breakfast. No muffins in stock no rye toast and to top it all off the toast I did get was burnt and not edible! The drink I ordered was not in my order and the eggs were so salty I couldn't finish them. What I loved in the past about this deli was the freshness and the consistency with my orders. I can't say they are worth me going back again. read more

This sandwich place is awesome and far from ordinary. Its family owned and even mom works there too! The decor is adorable, with all the old school lunch boxes decorating the place. We haven't been disappointed in the last two years that we've been going there. The roast beef is made on premises and is delish!! The daily specials aim to please as well. They are moderately priced, which is not par for the course in this town! So...if you're looking for a great place for lunch you can't beat AJ's!!! read more

I eat here all the time. If it was closer to my office, I'd eat here every single day. The food is great, the staff is respectful, courteous, and kind. The prices are lower than most other delis in the area. I call for pick up and its always ready when I get there. They have a great menu with a ton of choices. Awesome town landmark within walking distance from me. with the liberty deli, four seasons deli, tuccis deli, and ciccones deli all long gone in one location near my house which is now the cigar emporium these days, to the best of my knowledge this is the one true old school traditional deli left in west caldwell. come to this place for all your sandwich and munchie needs at very reasonable prices. Free good amount of street parking with only a few seats so eating here can be a stretch the only flaw here. Staff is extremely friendly especially the owner Allen who takes care of everybody like family! Want a bag of chips and a soda can for a measly $1.50 and a sub for $7 or less not including tax??? Come here early for lunch let alone breakfast give em a shot! :) read more

Awesome local deli. My coworkers and I order here a few times a week for lunch. The specialty sandwiches are great, especially "The Munson."

There is nothing particularly special about AJ's. It is a simple deli/newstand, doesn't really stand out. The sandwiches are standard fare, I had a turkey and provolone sub. The size is pretty decent, but flavor wise it is nothing special. They had a very limited selection of chips (just Bugles I think) when I was there. read more

Ok , so today is my second trip to this place. Wanted to be sure before I wrote a review. Firstly, one the best Italian Hot Dogs in New Jersey. They offer a wide range of lunch options. I plan on trying most of them over time since the first 2 I tried were excellent! The above mentioned hot dog and a sandwich they call "The Munson" was #2. Both were awesome!! Prices are good. Service is friendly and fast. Highly recommend this place. read more

Love their sandwiches! Cute little local spot with very friendly staff.

Love AJ's. The sandwiches are fresh and delicious, made however you'd like, and reasonably priced. The staff is always pleasant. We regularly get sandwiches from here and recently ordered platters for a party. They platters were fabulous. I had asked for a variety of sandwiches and was very pleased with what we got.
