In December of 1994 I was driving home on a little two-lane Highway and an 18-wheeler pulled out in front of me. He had no lights on his trailer so I didn't see him until he was about 50 feet away. I went under the trailer and hit the axle at around 45 mph suffering head trauma among other things. My life was forever changed. Assessing the damage still years later it was found I lost the ability to organize things around me and remember what I had. I tended to keep things out in the open so I could see it every day and take an account of what I had. Then I moved in with my entire household of stuff into my grandmother's home which was also full of stuff. To make matters worse I had become a bit of a shopaholic after my accident. I could never remember what I bought so I bought it 4 and 5 times over in many cases. I was tripping over boxes and furniture and my family or friends would no longer come inside to visit. My mom did some research and hired Randi Lyman of A Helping Hand. She couldn't have picked a better person to help me. Randi is very considerate and a positive force even in my life today. She is so supportive and in no way looks down on you regardless of your situation. She is so compassionate and incredibly professional. My house is now organized and de cluttered. She helped me make decisions where my thought processes had broken down. I can't thank her enough for what she did. I was also imbued with her thought processes for making decisions about buying and also organizing what I already have. So as new things come in, old things go out and the new stuff is organized. I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who needs help regardless of your situation. Thanks again Randi! You are one of the finest people I know! read more

Randi is an absolute treat and a joy to work with. She really helped us organize and declutter rooms that have been neglected for years (since moving in). She is so kind and personable I would recommend her to anyone and everyone. Randi is invited to my birthday parties for the rest of my life. read more

I loved working with Randi! She'll be coming back in about 2 weeks to continue the organization and clearing/clean-up of my sewing/craft room and I'm very excited about it! She was so much fun to work with - so personable, not too serious yet still very professional, and was genuinely interested in my actual life. She even wanted to meet my 8 guinea pigs, hee-hee - it was so awesome that she is also an animal lover, and has a big heart for animals (kiss-kiss for Julie from Auntie Jackie!). Randi also made a huge effort even before our first appointment to understand exactly what I was needing, and asked me to send her some photos that were both fun and also pertaining to what I used the room we would be working on for (i.e. that showed what kinds of items I make in my sewing and craft room). I call myself a mini hoarder, especially when it comes to fabrics and crafts, and she was so patient and non-judgmental towards me. It's very reassuring as well to know that she has so many years of experience working with other adults with ADHD. She snuck in some helpful gems of how to stay organized as we were working through our 3 hours without me really realizing it, but that info sunk in. Only a day after working with her, I found myself looking at a few lamps in that and another room and thinking, "I can donate those - I can let them and tons of other things like those go, and it will make my life much easier and less stressful to let them go. We're not even using them or haven't for 6 years!" She was very inspiring and working with her made me excited to do more, not only in that room but in the rest of the house. I would highly, highly recommend her! read more

Randi is compassionate, non-judgemental, patient, creative, and absolutely hilarious! Her approach is 100% tailored to your needs and abilities. She has taken the time to get to know us and helped us create a space and processes that works for our individual needs. Like lots of ADHDers we have tried so many different methods to "get it together." Randi has worked hard to help us understand the difference between environment change (organizing & decluttering) vs behavioral change (keeping that organization & decluttering going) and of course, helped us organize & declutter in the process. Her approach has made this process less intimidating and surprisingly fun (I know, right?!). We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Randi read more

I have known Randi for many, many years and she is the one to call when you need organizing services. As a professional who specializes in hoarding disorders and other challenges, she approaches each project with sensitivity and compassion. Randi's extensive training and experience produces long lasting results for her clients. I have recommended her to so many folks with different organizing challenges & they've loved working with her. Just this week I recommended her to a friend who then called up telling me how thankful she was that I recommended Randi & her company A Helping Hand. read more

Randi was patient and productive. Great personality for keeping things moving while being realistic about progress. Strongly reccomend.

I have had the most incredible and transformative experience working with Randi to organize my home! I have young children and have been feeling overwhelmed with all of the kid stuff I have and haven't felt very good about the functionality of my home. Recently, I've been thinking of how I could use an extra set of hands; little did I know that Randi was going to be the answer to my prayers. She is a wonderful person and she asked all of the right questions and had all the answers! Her services were personalized to my needs and my kids and I are learning a great deal about how to better use the spaces in our home. I highly recommend A helping Hand to everyone but particularly to families. It's easy to collect kids clothes and toys and/or to not make the best use out of the spaces in our homes or to even realize we need decluttering- so it's awesome to have someone as experienced as Randi to come in with an objective and experienced lens and to improve your living space. Randi is exceptional in what she does and I honestly don't have the words to express my gratitude. Not only is she extremely helpful, knowledgeable and experienced, but she is also a true gem and joy to work with! She is a very kind and caring person who truly wants to make a difference in the lives of her clients too! She LISTENS to what your needs are and then works with you to create the goal that you have in mind. Also, she doesn't make you throw out all of your things or tell you to get rid of anything; she allows you to decide. read more

I had the amazing privilege of teaming up with Randi Lyman this past week on an organize and unpack job for clients. Randi's energy was contagious. She took command of the job, which for some, could have been overwhelming. There were tons of boxes to be unpacked and organized; numerous contractors to be coordinated around; and clients to be communicated with. She did it all with grace and a sense of humor while getting the job done - well. Randi deserves more than 5 stars in my book! read more

If you're looking for an organizer, look no further. This is a PROFESSIONAL operation. When you invite someone into your home to organize your personal belongings, this is exactly the type of experience you would desire. Organizing requires decisions to be made at a rapid pace and it seems Randi makes the right call every single time. Not only is she the consummate professional, she is a very personable and fun person to be around! Randi has the credentials and experience that are probably unmatched in the industry. Do yourself a huge favor and let "A Helping Hand" tackle that nightmare in your home that has haunted you for way too long! read more

After several years with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and as the mother of young twins I was feeling at wits end. A friend suggested I think of what I could do to make my life more manageable (her suggestion was a personal chef or an au pair) and as I thought about it I realized that what I wanted was a more organized, easier to manage house and some serious de-cluttering. So I looked up professional organizers in the Austin area, and I decided to call Randi first because it was clear she was professional and knew what she was doing. When I called her it was immediately clear that she is very very good at what she does, she is a consummate professional, she is a warm and fun person, and one with a deep and true compassion. She will make you laugh, she will listen to you---*really* listen---and she will never, never judge (even when you are sitting there judging *yourself*!). Our process was slow because I could only do a bit at a time, but she transformed our house by helping us make decisions about what to keep and what to donate, where to store what we kept and so on. She also helped me become better at managing my own stuff (and my kids stuff), learning to get less attached to some of my things and learn to let go, but also accepting of my foibles (there are some things I just *can't* give away, even though I no longer use them. She taught me innumerable things as we worked: to store things near where they are used, that you don't need to spend a ton of money to get organized (though I *do* love the Container Store); that you should be more compassionate towards yourself, that clutter is the result of decisions postponed. She also helped me be more punctual (still a struggle, but I have improved----she is impressively punctual), and helped me with time-management (which is essential for people with CFS). Is my house spotless and super-organized all the time? No, it comes in waves based on my work and my illness, but the underlying logic and order is there, as are the skills that she taught me. I am now working to consciously teach my kids how to organize their own rooms. When we were going through our books prior to selling our old house I made a flow-chart to help my husband and I decide which to keep and which to donate which was actually a great tool for us. And it was all thanks to Randi! Another thing that I like is that Randi will never sell you any products to organize your house, or suggest you need to spend a ton of money on cabinets or containers or closets. In fact, she usually was trying to talk me *out* of buying something that I was convinced would make my organizing much better! And I know that she's always a quick phone call away for a quick visit to "tune-up". I am actually planning to have her come this summer once or twice to help me with the fall-out from our house sale and move. But thanks to the skills she's taught me I can do a lot on my own that before seemed overwhelming. You really can't go wrong with Randi! read more

I am from out of state. I came to visit my sis in Austin, and over many years, my sis was unable to make progress on reducing her clutter. I knew we needed reinforcements. Randi helped my sister with organizing and sorting through a garage full of "stuff" in the heat and never missed a beat. She kept us focused and we all worked very hard. Randi has great organizational skills and a gentle but firm way of helping people see that their stuff takes away from their quality of life. She is great at motivating people to work to attain their goals in a patient and positive way. We are very pleased and thankful for her help, and will continue to use her for tune ups and keeping on track in the future! read more

So my husband and I were having to do a quick move into our new home and we were both needing a "good friend/relative" who could come in and just help us organize our home and in particular our master closet and kitchen. With Randi we got that and more. Randi completely cleared her schedule to come in and help both of us who were both exhausted and overwhelmed. Randi showed us how too make the most of our space and did nothing but encourage us, made us feel capable and capable during the entire process. Our home is so much better off because of Randi and so are our lives. We both feel like we gained a friend in the process. read more

Randi was very energetic and jumped right in helping me get organized. We walked through my house to see what was working and what was not working. She gave me ideas on how to better organize things. She didn't just tell me what to do, she jumped in and helped me get it done. She was very helpful and I will continue to use her to get my house organized. read more

I was looking for someone to help my organize our home in a way that is useful to us. Not just that looks good on pintrest. I love working with Randi and so does my husband. We talk thru hot spots where clutter seems to "happen" and then work on a solution. She is just great! read more

If you are looking for a personal organizer, you can do no better than Randi Lyman. She is fantastic in so many ways. We originally hired her to help a family member in organizing and de-cluttering her apartment, which she was superb at doing. But other personal issues arose, and Randi helped in too many ways to count. To say that she went above and beyond her range of expertise is a true understatement. This family member had a lot of emotional issues, and Randi dealt with them beautifully. She is incredibly compassionate, understanding, and caring, yet also firm, professional, and upbeat. Since we live hundreds of miles away from this family member, I can't imagine what we would have done without her--particularly since we could not fly in the age of Covid-19. Randi re-adjusted her own schedule more than once, as well as the schedules of professionals who were hired to haul away things to be either thrown out or donated. If this site had ten stars, I would readily give them. If you want someone dependable, experienced, and superb to help with your projects, Randi should be your number one choice, hands down. No question. read more

Randi is a godsend. I needed so much help and was feeling very overwhelmed by a move and downsizing I was facing. I needed to make decisions about what to keep and what to let go of and help organizing it all. Randi was so kind and compassionate. She was punctual, easy to communicate with, and professional. After just a few hours of working with Randi I began relaxing and not feeling so stressed. She is so creative and resourceful. She thought of things I would have never considered and it ended up making my life a lot easier. Plus she is sweet and very fun to work with. She never once judged me or my piles (and piles) of stuff. She was also willing to work at my pace and nudge me ever so gently when I needed it. Her timing is perfect for helping you get through the tough decisions. I also felt like she listened to me and cared so much. She was kind to my pets and always patient with me. I loved working with Randi and would highly recommend her. read more

Randi is great to work with whether you need a little help or a lot! She really works with you to figure out what you need and how to accomplish it. I wish I could hire her for a whole week to help me weed out and then organize what's left. Instead I hire her as needed and when my budget allows because I feel it's worth the money. I get so much more accomplished when she is there than I could do on my own and she is very sensitive to the fact that clearing the clutter can be emotionally taxing for some. Whatever your needs are give her a call and I think you will find that she's adaptable and has seen it all. So be not afraid fellow packrats! read more

If you have more things than will fit, and you don't know where to start, Randi is the best! I was really just sort of frozen about how to go about organizing my belongings to create a pretty and functional home. Without Randi, I truly don't know where I would be. She is a lifesaver. She went above and beyond to help me move. She has taught me so many good skills! I am in her debt. I could not recommend her more highly. read more

Randi came to my aid after my husband passed away and helped me go thru records and personal items. She did an amazing job! Several years later, we called her back in to help purge the house for remodeling and a potential downsize in the next several years. She is a true ally in moving people forward!! read more

Randi is a pro. Delighted to have met her. Received her name as a referral from an old friend of mine. When I first contacted her, I actually was calling for a potential customer and needed a bid on services. We talked a while and I realized she could help me too! She emailed a questionnaire over and inquired about the job prior to arriving. On the day of her service she showed at my door with her "tool kit" and I was delighted. She literally brought tools to help me organize my office better. We improved upon my filing system then discussed ways to pace myself to be more productive when the day gets slower. I will keep her info for referrals for my clients. She is on point, sharp, helps with talking out strategies for organization and self management. Best of all she's easy to get along with and great to work with. Delighted to refer her. read more

I've worked with Randi for several years and she is simply amazing. Not only is she a leader in her field and does an incredible job she is one of the nicest and most caring people you will ever meet. Cannot say enough good things about her. There are not a lot of people that's specialize in her line of work which makes her services just that much more valuable. I would recommend her to anyone in a heart beat. read more

My Huband and I hired Randi to help us with organizing, minimizing and rethinking the use of space in our home. After starting a business and having a child, we had created closets and cabinets full of "stuff". He and I eventually became frustrated with a) not knowing where any of our things were b) not having a the purpose for specific spaces. We have ( time and again) tried to take on this project on our own, but ended up frustrated with one another and still disorganized. The disorganization began to bleed into the balance of our day to day life. Decluttering, purging, relocating, re-organizing and beginning to understand our organizational habits is so cathartic.... yet it is extremely overwhelming to do alone. Randi has done an outstanding job helping us figure out where to begin, how to prioritize, how to get rid of things and how to reorganize our home based on our lifestyle. She has also been incredibly sensitive and humble when entering our personal space without judgment. We are grateful for her time and guidance. read more
