I loved working with Randi! She'll be coming back in about 2 weeks to continue the organization and clearing/clean-up of my sewing/craft room and I'm very excited about it! She was so much fun to work with - so personable, not too serious yet still very professional, and was genuinely interested in my actual life. She even wanted to meet my 8 guinea pigs, hee-hee - it was so awesome that she is also an animal lover, and has a big heart for animals (kiss-kiss for Julie from Auntie Jackie!). Randi also made a huge effort even before our first appointment to understand exactly what I was needing, and asked me to send her some photos that were both fun and also pertaining to what I used the room we would be working on for (i.e. that showed what kinds of items I make in my sewing and craft room). I call myself a mini hoarder, especially when it comes to fabrics and crafts, and she was so patient and non-judgmental towards me. It's very reassuring as well to know that she has so many years of experience working with other adults with ADHD. She snuck in some helpful gems of how to stay organized as we were working through our 3 hours without me really realizing it, but that info sunk in. Only a day after working with her, I found myself looking at a few lamps in that and another room and thinking, "I can donate those - I can let them and tons of other things like those go, and it will make my life much easier and less stressful to let them go. We're not even using them or haven't for 6 years!" She was very inspiring and working with her made me excited to do more, not only in that room but in the rest of the house. After several years with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and as the mother of young twins I was feeling at wits end. A friend suggested I think of what I could do to make my life more manageable (her suggestion was a personal chef or an au pair) and as I thought about it I realized that what I wanted was a more organized, easier to manage house and some serious de-cluttering. So I looked up professional organizers in the Austin area, and I decided to call Randi first because it was clear she was professional and knew what she was doing. When I called her it was immediately clear that she is very very good at what she does, she is a consummate professional, she is a warm and fun person, and one with a deep and true compassion. She will make you laugh, she will listen to you---*really* listen---and she will never, never judge (even when you are sitting there judging *yourself*!). Our process was slow because I could only do a bit at a time, but she transformed our house by helping us make decisions about what to keep and what to donate, where to store what we kept and so on. She also helped me become better at managing my own stuff (and my kids stuff), learning to get less attached to some of my things and learn to let go, but also accepting of my foibles (there are some things I just *can't* give away, even though I no longer use them. She taught me innumerable things as we worked: to store things near where they are used, that you don't need to spend a ton of money to get organized (though I *do* love the Container Store); that you should be more compassionate towards yourself, that clutter is the result of decisions postponed. She also helped me be more punctual (still a struggle, but I have improved----she is impressively punctual), and helped me with time-management (which is essential for people with CFS). Is my house spotless and super-organized all the time? No, it comes in waves based on my work and my illness, but the underlying logic and order is there, as are the skills that she taught me. I am now working to consciously teach my kids how to organize their own rooms. When we were going through our books prior to selling our old house I made a flow-chart to help my husband and I decide which to keep and which to donate which was actually a great tool for us. And it was all thanks to Randi! Another thing that I like is that Randi will never sell you any products to organize your house, or suggest you need to spend a ton of money on cabinets or containers or closets. In fact, she usually was trying to talk me *out* of buying something that I was convinced would make my organizing much better! And I know that she's always a quick phone call away for a quick visit to "tune-up". I am actually planning to have her come this summer once or twice to help me with the fall-out from our house sale and move. But thanks to the skills she's taught me I can do a lot on my own that before seemed overwhelming. You really can't go wrong with Randi! read more

I am from out of state. I came to visit my sis in Austin, and over many years, my sis was unable to make progress on reducing her clutter. I knew we needed reinforcements. Randi helped my sister with organizing and sorting through a garage full of "stuff" in the heat and never missed a beat. She kept us focused and we all worked very hard. So my husband and I were having to do a quick move into our new home and we were both needing a "good friend/relative" who could come in and just help us organize our home and in particular our master closet and kitchen. In December of 1994 I was driving home on a little two-lane Highway and an 18-wheeler pulled out in front of me. He had no lights on his trailer so I didn't see him until he was about 50 feet away. I went under the trailer and hit the axle at around 45 mph suffering head trauma among other things. My life was forever changed. Assessing the damage still years later it was found I lost the ability to organize things around me and remember what I had. I tended to keep things out in the open so I could see it every day and take an account of what I had. Then I moved in with my entire household of stuff into my grandmother's home which was also full of stuff. To make matters worse I had become a bit of a shopaholic after my accident. I could never remember what I bought so I bought it 4 and 5 times over in many cases. I was tripping over boxes and furniture and my family or friends would no longer come inside to visit. My mom did some research and hired Randi Lyman of A Helping Hand. She couldn't have picked a better person to help me. Randi is very considerate and a positive force even in my life today. She is so supportive and in no way looks down on you regardless of your situation. She is so compassionate and incredibly professional. My house is now organized and de cluttered. She helped me make decisions where my thought processes had broken down. I can't thank her enough for what she did. I was also imbued with her thought processes for making decisions about buying and also organizing what I already have. So as new things come in, old things go out and the new stuff is organized. We originally hired her to help a family member in organizing and de-cluttering her apartment, which she was superb at doing. But other personal issues arose, and Randi helped in too many ways to count. To say that she went above and beyond her range of expertise is a true understatement. This family member had a lot of emotional issues, and Randi dealt with them beautifully. She is incredibly compassionate, understanding, and caring, yet also firm, professional, and upbeat. Randi is great to work with whether you need a little help or a lot! She really works with you to figure out what you need and how to accomplish it. I wish I could hire her for a whole week to help me weed out and then organize what's left. Instead I hire her as needed and when my budget allows because I feel it's worth the money. I get so much more accomplished when she is there than I could do on my own and she is very sensitive to the fact that clearing the clutter can be emotionally taxing for some. My Huband and I hired Randi to help us with organizing, minimizing and rethinking the use of space in our home. After starting a business and having a child, we had created closets and cabinets full of "stuff". He and I eventually became frustrated with a) not knowing where any of our things were b) not having a the purpose for specific spaces.
