He and his wife Jo moved to Mammoth three years ago. When asked why they opened a wine bar featuring Italian wines, he replied "We've been to Italy a bunch and we wanted to do wine. Italian wines". They have a small selection of food: Cheese plate, duck and liver pâté and canned mussels. I had the Delirium Tremens beer, my friend had a glass of the Barolo Serralunga red wine. Both were tasty! She hand picks the selection of wines and sakes she serves, and she updates her selection every few months so you can come back and try new things she's found. The cafe may be small and cozy, but their coffee is definitely big on flavor. It's such a cute and beautiful spot, with a tempting selection of pastries and plenty of delicious coffee options to try. I didn't go too fancy this time because I was really craving a cortado (macchiato), but when I saw they had lavender, I couldn't resist adding it to my double shot. Such a good combination! The coffee was excellent--creamy, smooth, and full of flavor. No other business does this on Reddit. First, service is very slow and pretty haughty. I had to wait 30 minutes for a simple pesto chicken crepe. It tasted disgusting. I got the apple dessert crepe. It was full of little cubes of raw apple that just fell out of the crepe. There was barely any cinnamon or sugar in it. I also got the pesto crepe. There was a splash of pesto and a couple little pieces of chicken. 90% of the crepe is the bread or galette or whatever. The rest (which isn't much) is just thrown in there. At $16 each, this was a complete ripoff, even worse than the usual Mammoth ripoff. The ambiance is pretty good though and they have a nice wine bar area. I could see this place being good for breakfast, but it's not worth spending any more of my money there.

As a cabin resort, the beds were comfortable with good blankets, the kitchen was well stocked with pots and dishes, the fridge was big. The views from our cabin were beautiful, and we had a campfire in our fire pit. The staff, both in the General Store, and Cafe, and administration were all helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We took day hikes along the JMT and PCT. Loved Red's Meadow!

Some staff are great, exceptionally helpful to hikers and backpackers... others do little to warrant mention. And as a crucial resupply point for JMT and PCT thru-hikers, it's invaluable... although if you don't have supplies shipped in, you're then subject to the prices they charge, which are quite high-- and yet make sense, considering everything has to be trucked in over a narrow mountain road. Food is pretty meh, but whether or not you've just finished a couple of days in the backcountry, or a couple of hours, it is nice to have a cold drink and a slice of indifferent pie with store-brand ice cream for the king's ransom they charge. I don't know what that should equate to, but averaging it out is... rough.

Once it was ready in lightening fast time I dropped a huge squirt of honey and a splash of half and half. An excellent dopio espresso.

Although the platforms explicitly state an 8:00 AM opening time, the establishment was locked and empty when I arrived at 8:30 AM. It is very upsetting to plan your morning around posted hours only to find a business closed. Accurate public information is essential, and this experience was highly inconvenient.
