My honey and I had our last meal in Miami here on our honeymoon trip in January. Winter is the low time as the beach is quite cold and the tourists limited, which made for a lovely, quiet date night at the rocket bar at a fish called Avalon. We sat for about 2-3 hours enjoying cocktails, oysters, mussels and paella, and chatting with the bartenders about everything over the sun. The food was fantastic and the portion sizes humongous. We were so full after our appetizers but wanted to stay and chat so ended up making our way completely through every dish. We will absolutely be back the next time we want a fancy fine dining experience on the beach!

We came here like we always do while staying in Miami , twice. We got the Bronzino on Wednesday and it was fabulous. Marbin was our server. He was right there when we needed him. We always get the bang bang shrimp. It was wonderful. Then we came back the night we are leaving Miami . We got the bang bang shrimp again because we love it. This time my sister got the seafood pasta. She said there was seafood in every bite. And she commented that octopus was cooked appropriately and was not rubbery. and was fresh. I got the macadamia nut incrusted fish. The topping was so good and it was placed in a yummy berry sauce. Marbin was our server again. He is so good at his job, very attentive and friendly. We had the famous key lime pie. It was perfect . We will be back the next time we are in Miami

We came here for cocktails and dessert. Once the waitress heard we were only here for that, she stomped off to the maitre de and had us moved! Extremely rude! Once at our new table, we had a lovely waiter who was more than happy to serve us. The table they moved us from never had customers the entire time we were there. We did have a reservation and no where does it say whether to indicate if you are there for a meal or just dessert. That being said, the key lime pie was delicious and the live music was awesome! Perhaps that waitress was having a bad night? Certainly should not have been rude to customers. We come down every year, but will think twice about returning.

Took my beautiful wife to This restaurant for Valentine's Day and it was amazing. The hostess were very polite and got me to my table immediately, the manager was helpful and our server Richard was just the best! Food was 10/10, I literally have no complaints or anything to critic about. Sitting on the street was cool cause I overheard several people walking by say "I want to go here" "it's that one restaurant from the movie" and such so that cool. Definitely recommend A Fish Called Avalon and suggest it to anybody who wants great seafood right on Miami Beach.

Amazing experience! Service, from the maître D to Enzo, was exceptional. Ambience fantastic. Very good light entertainment. But the star was the food, no question. The bang bang shrimp was excellent. Highly recommend. Not traditional, very unique and delicious. The beet salad, yes... perfect. My wife cannot eat gluten, the waiter was knowledgeable and work closely with the chief to protect my wife. The branzino was special. For me, I loved the crab encrusted grouper. Generous crab served on a tasty bean and spinach. Highly recommend! The cream brûlée top was a little too charred, but we had such a great meal we peeled it those pieces an enjoyed.

OH.MY.GAWD! Best oysters, Paella, key lime pie, Aimee and the rest of the staff service! I'd fly back here for all of it. You'd think I was a celebrity the way the staff treated me. Highly recommend.

Miami Beach is considered a paradise for those in love with the culinary arts, dining at a Fish Called Avalon Brought out the feeling of classic Art Deco South Florida while delivering delicious starters and appetizers, the Baked Escargot was light and buttery soaking in just the right amount of sauce when it was served, I also decided to try the Octopus as an appetizer as well, tender and chewy with a fresh taste of the ocean, The atmosphere is very lovely here especially during later in the day when the sun sets, I would recommend visiting for anyone

Sidewalk seating was entertaining with people watching and live music. Food was on point and server was amazing.

Roasted beet and crispy goat cheese salad. Macadamia encrusted snapper with spinach risotto. So good!

Their orzo paella is one of the best seafood dishes I've ever eaten and I think about it all the time. May have ruined all other paella for me to be honest. The fish was fresh and so delicately cooked and each piece of orzo melted in your mouth along with the that decadent sauce. It was so filling and yet light at the same time. My husband and I had a lovely meal there and everything from their cocktails to dessert was delicious. It's been a little bit so I think their menu has changed but we also loved the dessert - a bananas foster type of dish. So good! Great service and loved the ambiance - was the perfect setting for a romantic date night.

So I have to say that this is probably my fave seafood restaurant in the US!! Big statement but have eaten here twice in Miami and the food is absolutely outstanding,great service,nice atmosphere. Right in the heart of the Art deco district and part of the famous Avalon hotel I miss this food. Their octopus was the best I have eaten and have had it in many different countries and still this was the best. My family from the UK all enjoyed their dishes thoroughly when we went on a cruise out of Miami. Great cocktails and good value for money. We took an Uber here so can't comment on parking Go you won't regret it if you like seafood!

Decided to eat on the strip and we were not disappointed. The hummus and bread were a great starter. We had poke for appetizer and enjoyed the flavor. Portion is small but to be expected. The sea bass was cooked perfect and had a few dumplings that came With it. My friend has tarragon lobster tails that were very fresh and cooked perfectly. Not overdone and chewy. The food was good and a little pricey but if you decide to go there you'd already know that! I'll definitely be back to try something else. read more

If you follow me, you know I seek out great places to eat, because I HATE spending good money and time on average food and service. Anyhow, this little gem on the southern end of south beach in the vintage art deco hotel Avalon is worth your time and money. One of the great things about this restaurant is the staff. They are career professionals and have been there for years, not months. You can tell because their pride comes out in their work. Which in this case is the food and service. Obviously by the name you can guess the fish is a hall mark. I warmed up with the tuna tartar, super fresh, super tasty. For dinner I went with the macadamia crusted snapper. The manager, Brian, suggested a nice white to pair...a really great night. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed! read more

One of the best meals we had in South Beach. Located at the Avalon hotel, they have been open for thirty years serving fresh fantastic seafood abs steaks. Amazing service, great location right on Beach drive. They have a nice patio out on the street as well as a beautiful dining room. They have live Latin-Caribbean music on their patio nightly. We went to the bar first for happy hour specials then were seated at our table. Decided to sit inside. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. We started with the lobster bisque and a Caesar Salad. This was the best lobster bisque I have ever had, so creamy but you could taste the lobster. The salad was fresh and light. For our main meals we had the Macadamia -Crusted Snapper with Spinach risotto, Raspberry Beaujolais Beurre Blanc and my boyfriend had the Black Grouper with asparagus and sweet potato mashed. Both meals were delicious, the fish was perfectly prepared. My Spinach risotto was to die for! What a great combination. For dessert we had the creme brulee which was fantastic. This place has been serving fabulous food for 30 years and I'm sure it's not about to stop. Definitely a wonderful recommendation for a nice dinner when in Miami. read more

Good food, excellent service. The picture I added is tuna tartare, it was very tasty. 2 things for minus a star: wine glass is 4 oz (please count this comparing to a bottle price when ordering). Also the stone crab claws were not what I expected: I thought about claws only taken the way to leave the crab alive, but instead it was the full "hand" meaning 2 crabs were dead for my plate. Husband and I came here for a small bite and drinks. The food was great and the drinks were good. And I wouldn't have complained about the service... Except I overheard the host tell a new server to intentionally mislead people about the service fee (gratuity) to get 40% tips. FYI the service fee is to make sure visitors from non tipping countries tip their servers. To the servers: If that money is being distributed unfairly, take it up with your work. I would have added some to the tip if I hadn't heard that. And the server was noticeably grumpy after which made me feel like I needed to share with others so they don't feel taken advantage of. Please do tip the live music guy though. He is great. read more

Lovely setting for dining and people watching on Ocean Drive. We dined outside at night. Beautiful. Service was exemplary and contributed to a wonderful evening with our visiting relatives. The entertainment live music was nice but combined with the street noise made it a bit difficult to share dinner conversation. The food was nicely presented and flavorful. Plates were high quality ingredients and presented perfectly. Flavor could have used a boost here and there. Drinks (perfect), Bread (divine), Shrimp appetizer (delicious), chopped salad (great and enough for 2), surf & turf w mashed and asparagus in sauces (ok needed flavor notes via sauces) and award winning key lime pie with pecan crust ( needed more lime) ..the takeaway, probably the best restaurant in the area and location location...We would recommend for a special evening. read more

I came here with my mom and we did the tasting menu. They had options for sitting inside or outside, and we sat inside with the air conditioning. This place seems like a good spot for date night or a small, intimate group. The service was charming, prompt, and very attentive. The food was SO good. We came here on an off night (Tuesday) and towards the end of the evening, so there were barely any people there. It has that old Miami vibe, much of the art inside was from the 60s or 70s, which felt a bit outdated but was charming. We did the tasting menu and there were multiple options for the first (appetizer), second (entree) and third (dessert) courses. The portions were generous and we were able to take home leftovers, which kept well. I would come back! read more

NOT WORTH IT! Found TWO HAIRS in our paella, manager didn't offer to comp our meal or anything - barely even offered a "sorry." Didn't know that one of the ingredients in a $98 paella was hair. Was so excited to eat before we found them. Food looks great but for the price of this restaurant this is not the service OR quality that we're paying for. We also got their ahi tuna which did not look super fresh and was just okay. Will not be coming here again. Update: after looking at A Fish Called Avalon's Yelp page, I see they have 15 health and sanitation violations. If we found two hairs in our food, I don't even want to know what else was in there that we didn't see. Very disappointed. read more

This place was incredible! I'd seen it many times over the years but never tried it until recently. I went during Miami Spice and expected the menu to be "ok". In my experience, when ordering off the Miami Spice menu, its not the best quality of food but this place was different. The macadamia-crusted snapper and spinach risotto was amazing!!! I was never a fan of risotto but this one was so creamy and tasted so good! The fish was cooked perfectly and seasoned so well! I had the escargot as an appetizer and they were fantastic! For those of you who like them, then you need to try them from this place! The service was also great! Our waiter was extremely accommodating and made sure we were happy with all of our selections! A magical evening for a special occasion. Sat outside, which provided great ambiance - the guitar player was super talented. Our waiter was very attentive without being annoying and he was so sweet to bring us Prosecco on the house to celebrate. The orzo paella is well worth the price - chock full of fresh seafood and a whole lobster! Incredible! I'm visiting from Toronto, and was attracted by the live music while walking down Ocean Drive. We sat on the balcony (great for people watching), the food was fresh and delicious. We loved this place! Honestly the best food on ocean drive imho. The seafood is so fresh and perfectly prepared and the drinks are delicious! They have a fabulous happy hour and I love the vibe, very bright and pretty and next to the restaurant is the cutest tiny bar! The outdoor patio is very chill and more inviting and less chaotic than the rest of ocean drive with live music that is actually good and not just loud. I think this restaurant has been in the game a long time and it shows in all areas including the attentive and quick service and knowledgeable staff. You absolutely can't skip the key lime pie which is the best I've had in a very long time. The thick pecan crust and homemade whipped cream put it over the top. My partner and his girlfriend and I went for dinner on a Sunday night. We had reservations at 7 and were promptly seated. It was not too busy when we arrived but by 8 the restaurant had filled up and the atmosphere improved. I had the bang bang shrimp which were HUGE and so tender. They melted in my mouth. For my entree I had the snapper in a raspberry beurre blanc with asapargus risotto. The risotto was amazing. Crunchy asparagus and creamy risotto. What's better than that? The snapper was delicious as well and the portion was HUGE. They do not skimp on their Miami Spice menus like some places. They had a special on a bottle of PN for $40 as part of the spice menu. Our server was very attentive and kept our glasses refilled. He answered all of our questions and gave some great recommendations. I had a great time last Saturday at A Fish Called Avalon. I picked it because the Maitre D' wasn't pushy like the other restaurants and it seemed like the most elegant sophisticated place on Ocean Drive, also it's there since 1989. I love fresh fish and seafood, specially right by the sea. My friend had a really great steak from a selection of three (aged prime meat). The Bang Bang Shrimp app is one of their signature dishes and we loved it. I'd get it as an entree next time! My Grouper was fantastic as was the Tuna Tartare I had. The wine list was large and very well chosen. Desserts were phenomenal. Service on Ocean Drive is usually not good, but here it was very attentive and professional. The manager was great, he came by the table to make sure everything was going well. As a special bonus, they play live music every night. That really sets the tone. Dining at A Fish Called Avalon was an unforgettable experience! We had the paella, lobster, and Mediterranean platter, and each dish was perfectly prepared and bursting with flavor. Our kids enjoyed the experience as much as us, and there is such a vibe sitting on the patio and being amidst their live entertainer (he takes requests!). The paella was rich and savory, with fresh seafood that melted in your mouth. The lobster was succulent and cooked to perfection, and the Mediterranean platter offered a delightful variety of fresh, flavorful bites. We also had the tuna tartare and it was EXCELLENT - just needed more wontons! Our martinis and coffe (with dessert, also delicious!) were all on pointe. The service was impeccable, and the oceanfront location added a beautiful backdrop to the entire meal. If you're a seafood lover, this place is an absolute must! read more

A Fish Called Avalon is one of my new favorite seafood restaurants in Miami! You need to discover this historical gem nestled on Ocean Drive and 7th - with the freshest seafood & high-quality dishes, delicious cocktails, impeccable service and attention to detail. I loved every moment of our dinner. The restaurant has such a cozy ambiance overlooking the beach. I really appreciated the artwork, vibe and everything you feel when you eat there. My favorite dishes were the Bang Bang Shrimp, Tuna Tartare and the Snapper - so fresh, plated to perfection and visually appealing. Make sure to try the key lime pie, it's out of this world! The service here was excellent! The waiter was supper friendly and knowlegable about the whole menu. We had the Asian Calamari, and it was a huge portion. I was so good I devoured it in less than 5 minutes. By the time our main course came around I was so stuff I couldn't handle another bite. So I took it to go and ordered some more drinks instead. Four hours later and chomping away at the take away, it's still as amazing! Yes, it's a bit pricy, but really worth it! The food is great and so are the portions. We recently dined at Avalon Fish and had the lobster cocktail for an appetizer and their special seafood mixture with lobster, scallops, clams, and creamy risotto. The dish was outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The lobster was tender, the scallops were seared just right, and the risotto was rich and satisfying. The atmosphere is chic & lively, perfect for a special night out. Service was attentive and made the experience even better. If you're in South Beach and love seafood, Avalon Fish is a must-visit. This place really wasn't all that great. Maybe it's a great tourist spot, on Ocean Drive, but there are way better places in South Beach for seafood. They hard sell and upsell and you're stuck with a whopping bill equivalent to some people's paychecks. Fish is over-sauced to disguise it's age, I'd guess. Service sucks, but that is usual for Ocean Drive as well, since they always tack on auto-gratuity. When there's auto-gratuity, you can be assured of crappy service. They certainly know how to upsell their $200 shellfish plates though! read more

Very disappointed. The food is highly overpriced for the quality we received. Worst mojito I've ever had. We ordered a side of asparagus and received 5 spears for $9.00! Steak had to be sent back because it was overcooked. Second time around it was still overcooked but I didn't want to be a pain and kept it. Ordered the creme brûlée for desert-which is usually my go to at other places. It was horrible and had the texture and consistency of a rice pudding. Food was pretty solid, had the grouper topped with crab meat. All components on the plate were executed well. Service started of strong but as the meal progressed I was completely ignored until I stood up and asked for the check. Wasn't a deal breaker but also served a very dirty glass with my beer. Thought about tipping below 20% for the first time in my life but "for my convenience" 18% gratuity was automatically added to the check left me no choice. read more

Food was very good. We were just in Miami for the evening and wanted all of the seafood we could get our hands on. We're disappointed there. Service was also excellent. The issue we had was, going off of Yelp reviews, we didn't realize that the building is under a reface renovation. Loved our dining experience at A Fish Called Avalon. We were seated promptly. Our waiter, Orlando, was thorough, patient, and attentive. Second trip to A Fish Called Avalon and it was as good as ever. Fantastic service and I love the fact that this is a classy restaurant on South Beach that does not "hawk" the people walking by. Sit on the patio and not on the sidewalk. lobster bisque is a must, we also had a pecan crusted ono. Great choice for a romantic dinner, with great food and service. read more

My wife and I had a fabulous dinner here. The food was delicious, service by Marvin & Michael was outstanding. Our appetizers were artichoke & fish chowder; main courses were Chilean sea bass, tuna and a side of asparagus. The award-winning key lime pie tasted terrific. The food is okay. there's two main problems though. The service is absolutely terrible. That goes for several places on Ocean drive, but Fish Called Avalon is especially bad. There are people that call you out when you're trying to walk by to get you to come in their restaurant and it's pretty annoying while you're eating and walking. read more

A friend suggested us this place. We are local and we barely go to Miami Beach, but we gave it a try. Food is fresh. Portion are old school and the taste is delicious. Table cloths to all tables make the experience outside even more comfortable. Live music is a huge plus and you MUST try the key lime pie. read more
