If you're a shy, introverted or anxious person, LOM will support you and help bring you out of your shell. You'll get out of your head and shake off self-judgment with ease. As an anxious person it can be difficult to stay present, but LOM keeps me engaged. Not to mention, improv is a great skill to have. Connecting with other people and making new choices is good for the soul! You don't need to have any improv experience for a drop-in class or Level 1. You won't be the only one and you'll make new friends! Nothing cures a bad day or a bad mood like hanging out with like-minded individuals playing games and laughing til it hurts. Everyone involved with LOM is so welcoming and so unique. It's a beautiful community of artists and it's honestly changed my life. I can't say enough good things about them (truly!)!

My friends and I were at a bar randomly talking about improv and Googled classes in Brooklyn, and to our surprise/delight, LOM came up. Plus they're nonprofit, so classes are free if you sign up in advance! One class and we were hooked! Each "season" of classes is 4 sessions, and each class has a different theme. Add it all together, and you've got a hell of a base for future improv experiences. Nolan and Scarlett are the main teachers, and they're amazing. Their weekly icebreaker exercises are always fun and low-pressure, and they make everyone feel welcome. Well, as long as you're an adult. There are some NSFW language and themes not meant for kids. Speaking of work, they also do corporate events. I've been trying to get my company to bring them in for some team building and presentation skills classes, but we'll see. I should also mention the space. Classes and events take place at the Gemini and Scorpio loft (aka G&S) in Gowanus, which is beautiful. Beautifully adorned, air conditioned, with a rooftop area. I've also been to one of their Swordraiser shows, which was an excellent time. These guys sure know how to party! I'd give them a million stars if I could!

Awesome experience and, as a friend so eloquently put it, so very "Brooklyn." I was gifted the…read morepuppet sculpting workshop for Christmas from a different friend who knows me all too well. She didn't come with me, she merely put the session within reach and nudged me along my way. I'm so glad she did because it was such a unique enjoyable experience! For a cool $60 puppet (and a whole bunch of Muppet) enthusiasts get together for an afternoon of learning how to sculpt a puppet from foam. This idea may sound simple enough, but it includes sturdy foam blocks, knives of various sizes, scissors, sand paper, permanent markers, pastels, and some creativity on behalf of each participant. Come with an idea (a photo or sketch) in mind and Kevin (the master artist and creative director) expertly guides you through the rest. The session is slated for 3.5 hours, but time flies when you're having fun! In fact, I would have preferred another hour with time to decorate my creation - being able to add fur, hair, etc. would have been a bonus. However, I'm confident I can spruce up my Jersey girl puppet BrookeLynne with an old Snookie Halloween wig and some false eyelashes. I'm strongly considering going to another session and being a little more creative with what I sculpt. The animals all turned out fantastically! Go. Register for a workshop now.

He's able to impart a lot of knowledge in a concentrated period of time - offering tangible skills and approaches that you'll be able to apply toward future projects. Kevin's also very giving of spirit and will thoughtfully refer back to your sketches until, together, you coax the unique puppet that you've envisioned from out of its foam block. As a novice, I was so impressed by the balance that his workshop struck between scaffolding the necessary supports and empowering participants to trust their own ability. Also, it's just plain fun :) Put more succinctly - YOU SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
