Lafayette has a MEATER chili, meaning they don't skimp on quality ingredients. My best friend and I used to skip school in the 80's just to eat here. And the bathroom is COOL! It's like an adventure! The other main difference is American Coney has open seating because REAL Detroiters don't eat there. When interviewed there's a real character difference between owners. Grace Keros, the 3rd gen owner of American Coney likes to talk sh1t. You don't need to do that when your product is superior. Every interview she gives is sour grapes. Monday thru Friday there are excellent specials, but I'm particularly fond of Wednesdays. Every Friday night they stay open late and have jazz performances. In a town where new restaurants pop up every day offering the same stuff and close a few months later, I'm happy that Top Dog has been around my whole life.
