My friend and I crossed the border from Detroit to visit Windsor, our first top being here at A Dog's Breakfast for, well, breakfast. As dog lovers, the name was what drew us in. There was quite a line when we got there, and it was worth the wait! Here's what we got: Eggs Benny with Southern fried chicken, and eggs poached soft. Dog's Pancakes. We chose the lavender flavor. Poutine All the food was FANTASTIC! Hearty and delicious! Just what we needed to get started with our morning. Doesn't hurt that we were served by a super cute and pretty goth waitress who wore black lipstick.

Beautiful ambiance in the midst of a farmers market. The people are all uber friendly and all smiles. They have a washroom (bathroom)! All American breakfast / brunch menu. The wait is 30 minutes on a beautiful Saturday when the Farmer's Market is live and kicking.

Food good, I ordered the smoked salmon poached egg. The salmon is the thin slices not crumbs of cooked salmon Atmosphere is very inviting. The only issue I have with this place is that it has no restroom.

I have to say, this place was amazing. Food was great. Service was on the spot ambience was great, I feel this was a wonderful place to go to in Windsor first time I recommend it to anybody who's in Windsor looking for a great place for breakfast or brunch I can say they had French toast lasagna that's a first for me. I enjoyed my eggs Benedict with fried chicken on it . So I'll be back here sometime in the future

Food wasn't bad but wasn't the best either. We were excited for their cute outdoor seating but they have a huuuge bee problem here which was a big bummer. It was almost impossible to enjoy our meal without constantly getting attacked by bees. We ended up requesting to move inside, which they were very understanding about. Service was excellent and they were all super friendly.

This has all of the great things Squirrel Cage had but with much more seating including outdoor seating. The menu has a handful of genuinely different options. It's not just 3 or 4 variations of what is essentially a single dish. Our table got several and everything was exceptional. My favorite was the Eggs Benny and I got it with the Southern fried chicken because it's such an unusual combination. It was exceptional! The restaurant is painted all white and there are large windows along the front so the entire space is naturally bright. There's free Wifi. Best of all, the service provided by the owner is exceptional as it was over at Squirrel Cage.

I do not have a whole lot to say about A Dog's Breakfast, simply because (for us) it's a standard breakfast bistro with above average food. If you don't like surprises then this is your spot. I'm obsessed with breakfast at all hours of the day, and this place is convenient to walk to if you're staying downtown. I had the egg/bacon sandwich with home fries (yummy stuff) and my wife had an American-style (or maybe Canadian-style?) breakfast with eggs, toast, and sausage links. Everything was buttery and pleasant. Just how we like it. Waiter was cool. End review.

While on vaca, we Yelped like we always do for a good breakfast spot. This place was close to the hotel and had great reviews. The food pics were plenty which is a good sign. It's a small, trendy place with a small outside area as well. The menu was not large but had enough choices. I went with the French toast lasagna! Great choice! Cinnamon sugar and layers of bread and custard. I got the Home fries which you can sub with fresh fruit which was pineapple that day. They were crispy and well done. I also got the pork belly. That was okay as it was just fried with no seasoning. I prefer mine smoked than fried. Husband got a mash up in a bowl with eggs, hollandaise, potatoes and bacon. He's not a hollandaise fan but he ate the entire thing! That means it had to be flavorful. He also stole some of my lasagna. There were lunch items as well with beer choices but they were few.

I am from Austin, Texas and a visiting Fulbright researcher in Windsor this year. I've been checking out many amazing food places in the area and across Ontario and reviewing their awesomeness. I decided to visit this place with my husband for Saturday brunch. My food was delicious. I had the French toast lasagna. Our waitress was also fabulous and very patient in helping us with a very uncomfortable situation that transpired. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. Unfortunately, his chicken was raw (it was red inside and still pretty cold). I stood up to kindly tell the waitress, but as I reached the counter, the cook was close by the register, and quickly turned to me, and so I told him instead. I showed him the cold raw chicken on my husband's fork. He quickly took the chicken piece and immediately argued that the chicken's raw-looking color was normal. The cook, instead of apologizing, and listening to what I was explaining, became visibly angry and quickly got defensive. I tried to take the chicken piece back, so I could show my waitress, but he refused to let me show my waitress. Instead, again of apologizing, he became angry and commented that "if I wanted a dry chicken instead." I was taken aback, because that should have never been his response. A cook should never actively argue with a costumer. But this cook continued clearly being on the defensive, continued arguing with me, and continued arguing with by mansplaining that "the chicken was a thigh, and that therefore it was normal that the meat was pink." "Thighs" he kept adding "always look raw like that, but aren't. I was trying to tell him that it was not just pink, but raw-red, and still cold, but to no avail. The cook was extremely inappropriate arguing back with me (a customer) even when the awesome waitress was telling him to just cook another chicken portion for my husband. My husband felt terrible (given he is a line cook) and did not want to escalate the situation. My husband stood up and apologized and told the cook that he was going to go ahead and eat it, because maybe it was just that one bite. However, upon taking the next bite, my husband could not continue eating the raw chicken. The next chicken bite was not just a little raw, but factually frozen cold. At this point, my very embarrassed husband asked the waitress if the cook could just cook him another, since that chicken was inedible. I want to stress that our waitress was FANTASTIC in every way. She asked the cook prepare another chicken portion. The problem became worse, however, when the next portIon arrived because it was completely charred!! It was so burned that it was utterly inedible. It is clear the cook purposely burned the chicken portion since he was clearly upset & belligerent that I complained about the raw chicken he had initially cooked. As a cook, he should have never argued with me about how the raw-looking chicken was normal, and he should have just cooked another piece the right way. This bad experience was not totally terrible, thanks to the fantastic waitress. We will return again at some point, but only because of her and her phenomenal service. I hope the cook receives some much needed customer-service training and learns to never argue with customers who point out raw chicken.

Stopped by here after staying in Windsor overnight after a concert in Detroit. The street parking in front was free on Sunday which was nice. We were a bit confused on where to enter as there are 2 different doors. There was a sign that said to see a server to be seated but there were none outside and for some reason we couldn't get the doors to open. Eventually a really nice server came out and got us seated outside. I don't love eating outside but it didn't seem like there was an option to sit inside. I had an iced coffee and their pancakes which come with home fries. The pancakes were really nice but almost too large of a portion! I could only eat 2 of them. The hash browns were soooo good and crispy. We had a little bee friend that was bugging us (no pun intended) our whole meal which is why I don't love to eat outside. About halfway through the servers started offering indoor seating and I kind of wish we had been given that option as well.

My fiancé and I had a lovely Sunday breakfast yesterday at A Dogs Breakfast!! I just had the classic two eggs, bacon, toast, home fries! Totally delicious and fantastic service! Everyone there is very friendly! My fiancé has two autoimmune diseases that trigger food allergies, it's hard to go out ESPECIALLY for breakfast, no egg yolks, no gluten, no dairy. Well we called ahead and this was no issue! We got there and ordered, he had four egg whites, gluten free toast without butter, peameal bacon and home fries! We had a wonderful breakfast and it's so nice to find a place he can enjoy!

Excellent food. Wonderful staff. Bravo! The breeding on their chicken was unreal, and the eggs Benny.... Wow.

We are from California and found this place on yelp. What a great breakfast place. I had A Dog Breakfast which was eggs, bacon, rye toast, and potato's. The eggs were excellent so were the the potatoes. My girl had chocolate chip pancake and bacon, the pancake was light and fluffy, excellent. They serve breakfast all day. It is a really cute place. Grab breakfast here is really good. read more

While visiting Windsor, we were looking for a brunch spot so we chose this place. First of all, the service by Eric was absolutely spectacular. He was very attentive and kept the mimosas coming. They were so refreshing. The food that was prepared by Dino was cooked to perfection. See photos. This place was very laid back and clean. Had breakfast this morning. Food & Service were terrible. Young woman who waited on us not around , took forever to get food, not warm or the 2nd cup of coffee. young man brought our food, she did not ck on us quickly. My vegan companion did not eat either of her entrees, when asked she said too much cumin, waitress offered tomatoes, okay. Mine came wrong, no jelly for toast. Then when we were ready to leave had to go up request bill & they were going to charge us $2 for those tomatoes. read more

How much time have you got? We read the reviews and thought this might be a nice place to eat breakfast; unfortunately, it took 45 minutes before we saw our food, and when we did, the food was cold. My sister had a hair appointment in an hour, a mere 5 minutes away (our niece's wedding was later in the day), and because of the wait, she ended up leaving with no food. When we asked for butter for our toast, we received melted liquid butter stirring on the pot (Really??) . They didn't serve decaf coffee, the peameal bacon was super salty, they promised our bill to be provided quickly and we ended up walking to the till ourselves. Should I go on? Oh ya, the manager said she had no control over the chef?? When we finally paid our bill, we did not receive any compensation for our terrible service. Stay away, stay far away! read more

It was a super crowded and busy Farmer's Market Saturday, but we were promptly seated by friendly and thoughtful staff. The food was excellent. I had the Sir Benedict, which is an unexpected but delicious fried pork belly. Quite memorable. The food was yummy, service was swift and the staff were funny. Highly recommended. read more

The breakfast itself was just fine - nothing worth the wait however. There are only 8 tables in the whole place and yet the entire experience (with only 4 of these tables occupied) took well over two hours. Do yourself a favor and go to the location by the same owners next door and hope that their service is less excruciatingly slow. read more

Came here after a night out with a few fraternity brothers. Great service, fantastic food, and the whole experience didn't take more than an hour which is very fast for midday on a Sunday. Definitely a great place to find a good homemade breakfast! 5-star read more

I want to eat here again...but the menu is too limited for a pescetarian. i had eggs benny with smoked salmon. It was good. I am just not a big fan of smoked fish. My wife had french toast. It was not as good as that at Twisted Apron, but good and interesting (it has a crunchy exterior) nonetheless. read more

By far my favorite place in Windsor so far. I'm American and decided to make a quick trip to Windsor. Apparently it's a completely foreign concept to allow pets on a patio or in restaurants so it was a huge surprise when I found this place! Amazing food and the service was the nicest I have experienced in my week of visiting. I definitely would not recommend Windsor, however if you must then stop by the dogs breakfast it's great food! :) read more

Coffee was very good. Food ordered was as you would expect from a decent breakfast restaurant. Restaurant decor nice. Did find service somewhat inattentive (no cutlery, missed item from order) but pleasant. Do need some type of placemats so plate doesn't slide around on glass table. read more

Absolutely love the vibe, open doors and sunshine in this place! If you're looking for a delicious brunch menu this is a great choice in the downtown core. So far I've tried a few dishes and all have been yummy; lavender pancakes, french toast and the fried pork belly sandwich. Even if you just stop by for a coffee, it's a great place to sit and relax. Keep in mind that it does get quite busy on Saturday during the downtown farmers market but worst case scenario you walk down Maiden Lane to The Squirrel Cage (same owners) for some equally yummy eats and treats! read more

Usually a good spot to go. Today service ok but slow. Took forever to get food. Didn't offer anything while waiting so long. Been here two other times without any issues. Wasn't that busy either. Not sure what the problem was. Disappointed to bring visitors from Texas with us and things were this slow. Can't recommend anymore read more

My boyfriend and I tried this spot on my recent visit back to Windsor. We have heard of A Dog's Breakfast and thought it would be a great place to spend my first Saturday morning here. I had the Sir Benedict which sounded amazing but was horribly disappointing. I have never had brunch at any spot that I did not like. This was a first & I am surprised at the reviews left on here. The Sir Benedict is eggs atop puff pastry squares, tomato & carrot purée & lemon curd. Served with pork belly & potatoes on the side. Puff pastry is supposed to be buttery and flaky. The one served to me was so crunchy it felt like I was chewing on rock candy. My boyfriend could hear the crunch from across the table! Not knowing I was biting into the worlds hardest pieces of 'puff pastry' it cut the roof of my mouth. The carrot purée and lemon curd are absurd adding no real flavour to the meal. Just blobs on a plate. The pork belly is also served as two large deep fried chunks on the plate that just don't go with the meal. This does not belong on a brunch plate. Had it been sliced thinner possibly. But this cut & style belong on a dinner plate clearly with a whole different meal & style. So absurd & does not work whatsoever. After a 4 hour train ride I was so hungry but could not eat my food. My boyfriend finished his meal which was the French Benny but only because he was starving & the food was edible not great. I left very unhappy and had to pay for another meal elsewhere.The servers were great, very kind & attentive they offered me a breakfast sandwich in place of the Sir Benedict but really, I was not impressed with their food and did not want to try more? read more

Walked in off the street on a beautiful Tuesday morning on August 14 2018. They had an open overhead garage door at the front that allows a view outside and some patio tables. The restaurant is very nice looking and was aesthetically pleasing. Food was absolutely fantastic and we have nothing negative to say! read more

Welll, I wish there was 1/4 of a star cause that's how I'd rate this place. Being someone who loves food and knowing the very high standards of The Squirrel Cage, this was very shocking. I ordered the French toast. I'm not sure who was in the kitchen, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that when bread is black, it's burned. Regardless, they served it up. Fitting for a 'dog', not for me. Anywho, no type of flavor whatsoever. Cinnamon, vanilla or even powdered sugar would've been fine. Just whipped cream. They got the eggs right, but the mini potatoe pellets were also burned. Or overcooked. Or just weren't being watched. I'm no chef, but again, if you watch the food as you're cooking, I'm sure you'll see when it's close to being done. In this instance, it was well beyond that, the fat lady sung, left stage, then went up the street to pizza pizza to get something better than what I had. I'll never go here again, because I can just burn my own food and give it to all the stray dogs of windsor for breakfast. Maybe that was the point? I've been to the finest restaurants in Detroit, windsor and the world. This place gets .0023 out of 5 stars. (The 3rd and 4th picture with the burned bread and pellets were mine) read more

Came here on a Sunday morning. It was a full house by 10:30. Maybe that's the reason for the unreasonably slow service. We ordered the French Benny and the Benny diet. The hollandaise sauce was a bit on tangy side but still delicious. However, the pork belly was and the sous vide eggs were great. The purée didn't do much for us and the squash in the Benny diet did even less. Had the service been faster, the overall experience would have been better. read more

Absolutely delightful. A small, well-curated menu attentively served in a bright, summery room with a chic French feel. I bet this place is wonderful to visit in summer, and if I lived here, it would be my go-to in winter, so as to get the most natural light in my dining experience as possible. I visited this restaurant and ordered a burger. My burger came with HAIR in it. The worker offered to remake it and was apologetic. But then when my order was remade the meat was raw! I will not be coming here again. As the name of the restaurant it is for dogs not humans. read more

Food was extremely salty and they were out of fresh fruit, jam, and had no peanut butter but we weren't informed of this until after our meals came. This would have ha fed our orders (no toast next time). Willing to give it another shot because of the location and because the server made sure our friend who couldn't eat her meal got a discount. read more

Small little spot downtown great for brunch if you can get in. Had the French toast and loved it. Went in planning to get an omelette or just some eggs and after seeing another customer order, I had to change my mind. FT came with the house potatoes which were not bad but just overshadowed by the French toast. read more

First visit recently. The food is really good. We tried salmon sandwich and sir benedict. However, the service was pretty bad. We were seated quite soon, orders taken, but took 10 min to get water and coffee that was ordered. Other tables seated after us got their drinks first. In fact, a different server came to us at the 10 minute mark asking if we've been taken care of.....yes we were, and we were waiting for just coffee/water. He, not original server, got that for us. Food took a long time to arrive, and again one table seated after us got their food first. Food is still delicious enough that we'd want to return, and hopefully service will have improved by then! read more
