Perhaps one of the worst car related experiences I have ever encountered. I had my car towed here…read morefollowing an accident while visiting CT. I took a quick tour of the place with one of the managers and talked over what I wanted done. I requested that they only perform an initial inspection for insurance purposes, and allow me to make a decision based on that with what I'd like to do. They agreed and performed the necessary inspection. One week later, once I had returned to Boston (my home city), I called to let them know I would be transferring the car to my preferred shop (Automobile Associates of Canton - amazing place) and all hell broke loose. Before they could release the car for transfer, they requested I pay the balance of what I owed them. They claimed this balance included a tow, 20 hours of mechanical work, a week of storage charges, and some ludicrous $200 office / paperwork charge. Insurance had already covered the tow and only authorized the shop to perform 6 hours of work, the duration of the inspection. Talking with the insurance rep, who is permanently station within the repair shop, he said he never saw them do more then take a few pictures and check under the hood, not nearly 6 hours of work, never mind the 20. Neither I nor the insurance had ever heard of this "office charge" but after loosing the "extra hours" of work (which insurance called them out on), they were unwilling to budge from this fee. Not only did they require that I pay this before transferring out, they required I do so in person and in cash, no mailed check or credit card would be accepted. Until I did so, they were going to continue to charge for storage. Thankfully the shop I was transferring to understood the situation and were willing to go down in person for me and make the cash transaction, saving me a lengthy and rather unnecessary trip. Last I heard, they were in imminent danger of loosing their preferred repair shop status, and that this isn't the first job they botched up on. I have first hand knowledge of at least one car they attempted to fix (straighten frame) and did such a poor job on it, the car was forced to be totaled. In all honesty, I would rather sell my car at a lose then allow these thieves to fix it, they're that bad.
