A cosy eatery, a cross between casual dining and a coffee shop. Nice coffee and food i would give a score of 6.5 out of 10. If your going to be around this area it would be good place to go for a coffee and a snack.

    Inside seating ....lovely

The sign outside says 'the best breakfast in town 'and I agree with them . A very well presented English breakfast made using locally sourced ingredients which in my opinion is always much tastier . The price was reasonable £7.20 including a tea . The staff are very chatty and the place is also renowned for its pizza so I think I'll made a trip south of the river one evening to give it a go

Rich, strong coffee, oozing paninis and crumbling cakes by day, BYO wine (offy two doors down) and stone-baked pizzas by night, this is Totterdown's independent becaon for the hungry! Full of funky young couples and mums with kids, you can sit outside when the sun does its thing, or cosy up by candlelight. The goat's cheese tortilla had me drooling for days.

    Review Highlights - A Cappella

I love seeing little places like this pop up along Wells Road, giving the area a more vibrant and up-and-coming feel.

Our order was taken very quickly and I was impressed by the range of dishes on the menu; it is definitely a cut above the usual Italian restaurant fare. I had the Fregula di Frutti di Mare to start, which was not at all the seafood soup that I was expecting but more like a watery risotto. It was a bit too creamy for my taste and I wished they'd mentioned that on the menu, but there we are. For mains I thought I had ordered a penne with squid ink sauce, but when it came I was dismayed to find that I'd actually ordered something that was covered in cheese and cream sauce, which being lactose intolerant I just couldn't eat. However, after my profuse apologies for mis-reading the menu, they very quickly replaced it with the squid ink number (it was the spaghetti, not the penne!) so full marks to them for doing that. I liked the ambience of the place too, from the clichéd wax-encrusted wine bottle candle holders to the quirky decorative touches and pictures. I'll keep this place bookmarked for my next visit to Bristol.

But today I just wanted coffee so I thought I'd give it a go. What an awesome little place to hang out! From the outside Playground looks more like a hipster arts and craft shop. But in a good way. It looks intriguing and different from a lot of coffee shops that try and be hipster - theres an irony to Playgrounds hint of hipsterness! Get inside and the first thing you see are two wooden swings (yes swings) with a really nice chill-out windowsill with cushions to sit on. I'm actually sat on the windowsill as a type this and it's a really nice place to be! Much like the outside, the decor inside Playground is different to many other coffee shops close by; refreshingly different. There's lots of colour, swings and a few board games. It feels much more relaxing than your average chip board heavy coffee shop. The coffee itself is really good. I went for the house flat white which was quite sweet and really moreish. It was delicious. All in all a really nice experience and refreshing to see someone breaking the mould. Accepts Bristol Pounds & text to pay
