I had tried for three days to replace a single V-belt myself for a 1983 Merc 240D. Online info make it sound so easy (which yes..in theory it is). However after three days of trying to loosen bolts that previous owners had stripped over the years, I punted and limped it over to A Better Wrench. The crew was matter-of-fact and took less than a day. Expense was very reasonable, and they even hooked me up with a new fuel cap (the previous one was not seating correctly). Trustworthy, Honest, Reasonable, Qualified. You won't find a better place in the area to service your Mercedes. They have been servicing my 2009 CLK 550 for the past 2 years, and I'm blown away by how great they are. I drive my car a lot, so in the time I've been here they replaced my brakes, did Service A & B, replaced an alternator and recently replaced a faulty coil. Every time I leave the shop I'm confident that the repair was done right, I paid a fair price, and they didn't do more than they had to. Last night, we were leaving Chapel Hill to return to Greensboro. Our battery light had come on, but we were hoping to make it home before we had to deal with it. No such luck -- we were on the road, driving, when all of our battery-operated stuff started fading and failing. We knew we needed to get off the road quick, and I pulled up auto repair shops on my phone -- what luck! There was one about a mile ahead. We pulled into A Better Wrench, and my heart fell a little when I saw they were a Mercedes-Benz and BMW place, because we were driving a Chevy Cavalier. We knew we couldn't go any further, though, so we walked in. They were the nicest people! It was about an hour before they closed, and it was raining and nasty. They still rushed to help us -- with one of them even driving to the parts store to get us a new alternator because they wouldn't deliver that late in the day. Less than two hours later, we had a new alternator, even though they had to stay some past closing to get it done. They would have been justified in charging us a rush fee, but they didn't -- it was extremely reasonable, on par with what I paid 10 years ago the last time I needed an alternator on this car. We were so lucky to be near them when our emergency struck! read more

Very nice shop. They saved us over $3000 had we taken it to the dealer, when the driver seat malfunctioned. They tightened the braided cable that allows the seat to be adjusted and did not charge us anything. We have not had any issues with it since they repaired it. It has now been over three years and we have been using them every since. read more

Our cousin used to handle all the maintenance on our cars. When he retired this earlier this year, we had to find someone to service our 1998 Mercedes E320. We started asking around for recommendations. Our friend told us about A Better Wrench. He said, "They are hard working people, act like they want your business, and work hard to make you happy with every service visit." We have just started having our Mercedes serviced with them and we are VERY impressed. I had cracked my front bumper in an accident and needed a replacement. Darren and his crew at A Better Wrench found a used bumper for us and installed it at a very reasonable price (in comparison to other quotes we had gotten). They have touched up some paint on our car, detailed it, polished the headlights so they gleam and serviced our engine. They have assured us our car is in great running condition and has many more miles left in it, which is comforting to know since it is a 1998 model. Today they're fixing a broken latch on the glove compartment by rummaging around for a replacement part from a car they have on their lot. We agree with our friend who said, "They are hard working people, act like they want your business and work hard to make you happy with every service visit." My husband and I could not be happier with the professional service and kindness we have experienced at A Better Wrench. We have already recommended them to our bother and will send anyone who asks us where to get a Mercedes serviced there. read more

I sent in a review in 2009, it is now 2014 and I am still thrilled with this business. My Mercedes E320 was totaled in an accident and I had to find another vehicle. I hated to leave Mercedes primarily because A Better Wrench services only Mercedes and BMW's. A Better Wrench also sells used cars. I talked with Ruth and we came up with a E320 that I could afford from the insurance settlement. A Better Wrench has stood behind the "new" car. I could not be more happy. As long as I live in Chapel Hill, I will drive a Mercedes JUST so I can continue to use A Better Wrench for service and advice. I am not in a financial position to buy new vehicles, so I will use ABW sales to upgrade my cars. This is the best repair shop I have ever had after 45 years of driving. read more

1st contact, Work not done properly, which resulted in a need for a 2nd part to be installed & it not working. Can not get called back to reschedule work. On 9/1/17 I had my car towed to A better Wrench for repair. The repair was completed and I paid for the repair. An air compressor was installed on my 2006 Mercedes Benz S500. I was returning home from a 500-mile trip one way on 10/12/17 trip various parts of the car stop working. My car continued to run and I was able to get home. I called A Better Wrench and had my car towed to make repairs. I noticed what turned out to be fresh water the floorboard of the front passenger seat. Max Jr. called me with the answer to my problem a day alter. My SAM was damaged. An abbreviation for an electrical part that handles various options on my car. They suggested rain had gotten into my car made a puddle of water in the floorboard and supposedly wet my SAM and damaged it. I explained that was not possible. It did not rain where I was returning from, and I missed the rain that happened here while I was anyway. I have a friend who is a HVAC certified. He suggested when the compressor was replaced too much freon was added. My friend said several things can go wrong when too much freon is added. One is part of the air conditioner is under the dashboard on the in the car on the passenger side. Too much freon came cause it to freeze forming ice. The ice melts on to the floor on the Passenger side. I discussed it with A Better Wrench, they insisted it had to be rain. I let it go. The repair was done, or so I thought. A used SAM was installed. on the way home I noticed my gas gage was still not working properly, and the sunscreen for my back window was stuck in the open position. I called A Better Wrench and I told to bring it in on 10/19/17. I returned for my appointment at A Better Wrench. I was at the shop for a couple of hours. I was told they would need to get another SAM. By this time I knew a used SAM had been installed the first time. I told Max Jr. explicitly to use a new SAM this time. They agreed and said they would call when the new part arrived. They had my car until 10/27/17 a week and a day had passed and I had not received a call. I called A Better Wrench 10/27/17. I was told Max would call me back. He did finally call me back on 10/30/2017 late in the day. He started out talking about how much trouble he was having finding another used SAM. At that point, I realized they had no intention in repair my car properly. I told Max Jr. I would find another shop to do the work. I filed a complaint with the BBB, and I'm considering what else I can do. I suggest you stay away from A Better Wrench, I'm not happy with the customer service. read more

I now bring them my BMW. About 6 months ago the controller for my ABS system went out not only disabling that but also the odometer, speedometer and cruise control. The BMW dealer wanted about $2400 for the repair including $1800 for the part and $600 to install it. A better wrench advised buying the part online ($600) and installed it for $200. They are honest and reliable. Highly recommended. read more
