Staff very friendly. Highly recommended . Took a bike here for my daughter who is a student. Glad to do business with them

Got a flat tire this past weekend and walked by bike into the shop this morning to get it changed and to buy a spare tube. The guy helping me was incredibly friendly, fast and efficient at changing the flat, and took time to explain what he was doing so I could learn too. He wasn't condescending at all, and was super nice and helpful. It was ~$9 for the tube and ~$10 for the labor. Very reasonably priced. Was in and out riding home within 10-12 minutes. I'll definitely be back! read more

Fast friendly and expert service in Tower Grove South! I was sorry Jeff closed his other shop in U City but A&M is worth the longer ride.

I bought a new bike online, thinking that I could set up myself, but I ended up bringing it in. The workers were all super friendly and it was the best price I could find in South city for a simple bike set up! Would definitely recommend. read more

Disappointed with Our rental experience with A&M bike shoppe! The rental Bike selection was limited for hybrids. I could have used one size up! Found it overpriced and sadly no road side assist or support if bike broke down, My friends rental bike left brake wasn't connected and the gears on her rental were rough! I was hoping to rent for several days however we returned the bike after 5 hours because they just weren't enjoyable bikes to ride! . We Hope A&M bike shoppe puts more effort into its rentals And customer service and considers road side assist - read more

Had an issue with a leaky valve stem, and none of the bike shops in my area were open Sat morning until 10am. I found A&M on Arsenal who opened at 8am! Thought I just needed a new valve stem core, but they suggested my issue almost always needs a new tube. I bought both, got home and sure enough the tube needed to be replaced. Their expert guidance saved me a trip back:) Nice guys and I appreciated their great help! read more

I have been taking my kids's bikes and my bikes to A&M for yearss. The new owners are really terrible, though. I just got two bikes back from simple repairs. One bike suffered a catastrophic wheel failure that resulted in a bent frame and a RUINED bike! They tried to return the other bike to me with a flat tire, even though I rode it to the shop on two good tires! Also, it no longer shifts on the front chain ring. They are TOTALLY INCOMPETENT and IRRESPONSIBLE. read more

Caught a flat :05 min. into my ride on a Thurs. afternoon. Walked bike into A&M. They had me riding again in less time it took to need the repair. Super fast, friendly, no BS. Grateful and will go back. read more

I just wanted to say this shop has almost been in business as long as I have been alive. I'm 45 years old and I currently take my E-Bike to this location to have upgrades and replacement parts. I have never once been disappointed with the customer service. they are very friendly. the prices for parts and labor are very reasonable. If your looking for a great E-Bike shop this is the place! read more

A couple weeks ago I was riding my 3-year old bike in the park and one of the wheels started to feel funny. I was two blocks from this shop and rode over to have it looked at. Suspected it was a bent rim; it was actually two broken rear spokes. The drop-off was rough. The owner was grumpy. Interrupting me when I tried to speak or ask questions, implying my $800 bike was "economical," not really giving me helpful advice on repairs, etc. But I left the bike anyway because this shop's so close to home. And my last experience was positive. We all have bad days. I go back to pick up the bike and the same guy's there with the same bad attitude and poor customer relations skills. The convo when we're walking out the door: Me: "Yelp says you're open at 10 but user comments say 12. Is 12 right? Him: "I don't really care what Yelp says." Me: "Um, ok. But are you open at 12 normally?" Him: "The hours are right there on the door." Me (to myself): *wow* When one of your customers is trying to ascertain your hours of operation in case they decide to become REPEAT customers, and you can't bring yourself to say when your hours are, you have problems. Big problems. Bigger problem: first ride on the 'fixed' bike today: rear brakes are mushy cuz cable attachments/nuts are loose. Rear wheel is making a NEW noise. So, I'm taking it to Southside Cyclery where I should have gone in the first place; where the employees are nice and helpful and I'm pretty sure they won't send me out the door with a dangerous bike. And I will never, EVER take my business back to A&M. EVER! read more

The customer service is a little shabby but the shop is conveniently located across from Tower Grove Park at the corner of Morganford & Arsenal. I guess what keeps their doors open is the fact that this part of town is a heavy cyclist area and a bike shop is well needed. I've gone in once for a bike tire change and a few accessories. The owner is an old grumpy guy so I didn't dare return after my initial purchase. It's no Big Shark but they'll tune you up and get the wheels turning. read more

Karl Becker's bike shop at Arsenal & Morganford reminds me of a shop you might see out in the country. It's small, privately owned and generally more useful/helpful than the larger bike shops in St. Louis. (To remain nameless.) Someone else referred to Karl as being "crabby". HE GETS SWAMPED WITH WORK IN THE SUMMER! Wouldn't you be a little on edge too? Karl has helped me refurbish many old bikes that I buy & resell on craigslist. His prices on many items are much lower than that of...nameless. (I'm sure you can figure it out.) To see the pride & joy I (We) refurbished, go to http://oldtenspeedgallery.com and search 1973 Schwinn Varsity. You'll find a "Campus Green" colored one that was mine. This bike needed almost everything. Maybe I should've kept it...but I sold it on cragslist for a hefty price. Whether you need repair to an older bike, or need a new one...A&M Cyclery is the place to go around Tower Grove Park. Thumbs up from this Old Hippie. read more

A great place to get your bike repaired, as well as a good place to pick up a new bike. However, there's a small selection of new bikes, but they can order whatever you want. Let me get back to the bike repairing part. I was in a rush one day, and asked my friend to take a wheel over there to get my flat fixed. I didn't know the actual size of the wheel, or measurement for a new tire or tube, so it was somewhat logical to bring the entire wheel. Once there, the staff was friendly to her and got it fixed in a heartbeat. This was a woman who knows next to nothing about bicycles. Lots of other places get a little impatient with novices. When I visited, I noted a great deal of bike parts available for purchase. There were also a few apparel racks for the serious (or trendy) cyclist. The staff there is extremely knowledgeable of anything bicycle. They also relate to every customer I've seen walk into the place. I was very satisfied with my purchase and felt like I should frequent my local bike shop more often. read more

They correctly identified me as a sucker when I walked in the door. This was my first major bike purchase. I desperately needed something that can get me to and from work (two miles away) and my old, crappy, extremely cheap bike just wouldn't cut it. I bought a 100$ used bike; not in the best condition. That's fine, it just needs to work well. Unfortunately, it slowly became harder and harder to ride. I got up to go to work one morning to find the back tire was completely deflated. When I went to ask them to replace it; saying that I bought a bicycle, not a unicycle. I need two working wheels. They offered to change it for a price. I protested; as I felt that they sold me a bike with a bad tire. They countered that I popped the tire, they were not at fault at all, and that they say tires are never on warranty because people pop them all the time. I refused to give them any more of my money so I walked from A&M back to a different bike shop. The kind owners at a real bike shop informed me that my tire had dry-rotted and that there were other problems with the inner strip that contributed to the tire's popping. In other words: A&M sold me a lemon and tried to charge me to fix it. I really didn't expect a bike shop to operate like a sleazy used car dealership. Apparently you cannot trust these people to sell you something used that works. That's how they treat people who cannot afford to buy something new. I will never set one foot in this shop again. read more

I have been on the hunt for a bike for a little bit now, and after a short visit with a friend living just around the corner from this shop, I stopped in to check out the selection and maybe find a bike I liked. Walking into A & M, I was greeted by a very nice guy that came out and gave me some general info about a few of the bikes on the floor. After a short conversation and him pointing out a few features of the various bikes, he left me to look and check them out on my own. The selection here is new bikes, I didn't see one used bike on the floor. There is nothing wrong with this, but if you are looking to save money on a pre-used bike like I am, then this isn't the shop for you! One thing that did come in handy was the opportunity to take a test ride on a new bike and experience the difference between a brand new bike and some of the old ones I test drove at pre-owned shop the day before. I actually learned a few things from this test ride, but in the end, the $500 for a bike was a difficult pill to swallow, since I am new to the sport and just want something to get me started. (why invest so much money if I'm not sure I can stick with it?) In the end, I walked away without a bike, but feeling a bit more knowledgeable than I did going in. I'd like to give 4 stars for A & M, but I really felt limited by the lack of pre-owned bikes. Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the lack of selection on new bikes either. It was pretty much a "model A, model B, model C" of each class of bike and not much else. If you know your bikes and know what you want, A & M seems better suited to you, but for a beginner, I'd say keep shopping! read more

I had an excellent experience at A&M Cyclery. I had a group ride planned on a Sat morning. I get to the meeting place, grab my bike off the back of my vehicle to realize one of my pedals was broken. I rush over to A&M (it was the closest bike shop to me). Carl was able to take a look immediately, diagnose that I also needed a new crank. He was able to do both repairs for me that morning and I was able to get back to my planned ride. It was quick and he was straightforward. read more

My boyfriend took my front bike tire in to get the tube replaced and the guy at the counter was super rude. Basically implying we're stupid for not knowing how to fix it ourselves. Incredibly condescending and rude. This shop is walking distance from our house, but we'll now be going further just due to poor customer service. Go elsewhere - there's plenty of great local bike shops with friendly staff in STL and this isn't one. read more

Well that was a disappointment. Paid $80 for a tune up and ended up with sloppy shifting where I can only hit half of the gears and mushy break. There are cable housings that clearly should have been replaced, that I requested to be replaced if required... and $80 later there they are cracked tired. I love your basic corner bike shop, I even have a soft spot for surly bike people but I have no interest in paying for shoddy work. read more

I took my bike in here to get a tune up & get other things done. The guy behind the counter was really friendly. With me being a novice, he was really patient. He gave me great tips on bike riding. The price wasn't too bad. The seats that he sells are a bit cheaper than REI. read more

Check the new hours! I think he's open at noon now. Just putting that out there so y'all don't show up and 10a and have to wait. :)

Brought my bike in to get fixed here a few weeks ago. The people are friendly, and I like the layout of the small store. However, the work they did on my bike was poor quality and over-priced. They seemed to be interested in just getting the job done and getting paid as opposed to getting the bike to actually work well. I feel ripped off and won't be back. read more

Every time I go in this shop the owner has been disgruntled an rude to me. I gave them 1 last try because it's nearest my house. Bought a tune up some tubes a rack etc... He charges me 200$ or more!! No itemized receipt. No thank you for the business. The back wheel literally fell off on my way home and he didn't even offer to put the rack on that I bought. I don't know how they keep this store going. I'll never go there again. I know how to work on my own bike. Was just trying to support local shops. read more

Great shop. People complaining about the friendliness were probably asking stupid questions. Maybe they should go over-pay at South City Cyclery... read more

Been coming here for half a decade since moving to the neighborhood. The owner has never been anything but helpful and professional with all of my questions and needs. Those who experience otherwise may be wasting his time with stupid or repetitive questions or are not being told what they want to hear. He may not be bubbly, but if you know what you want and what to ask for he will always point you in the right direction. I get tuned up their fairly regularly and always enjoy the major increased performance in my older bike, always on time (sometimes before) and for a fair price. Great bike shop for Tower Grove South and beyond. read more

Great service and knowledgeable. Saw some "bad attitude" comments....this was not my experience. (There are always two sides, huh?) Had one of the items I needed and very able and willing to order the other item. I will be back to this shop. Some shops in town look at you like something moved in the trash if your bike is not $10k. This shop supports local kid's groups, the neighborhood and the overall sport of cycling. A diamond in the rough. read more

Warning to all this shop has no empathy and took advantage of a totally disabled man. My brother had a stroke five years ago. He has right side paralysis, brain damage. No use of his right arm and extremely limited use of his right leg. Karl sold him a $600.00 tricycle. Every bicycle person and store owner I have talked with told me they would work with my brother to explain to him he would be unable to ride a bike or a tricycle. It is unfortunate my brother is unable to ride a bike, but it seems to me Karl has no empathy or concern for a disabled customer. I think there are many other places to go for bicycle support and sales. read more
