I was washing my clothes here and had an emergency hospitalation and came back 2 weeks later to do other laundry and my clothes from the previous wash were dryed and folded and then staff including vicki and the 2 Hispanic queens whose name I do not know remembered me and gave them to me free of charge. I tried this Laundromat cause it was close to the house and my own washer was not working. It's a nice laundromat with an attendant on duty. The attendant was friendly but business like, she answered any questions I had. The laundromat was pretty clean with parking in the back. There was a restroom too. Been using their drop off service for about 8 years now. They had always been stellar - quick turnaround, neatly folded clothes and lovely people to work with. My last three trips I have dropped off my clothes on a Saturday - I picked up on a Sunday and have discovered some of my clothes missing. Custom made tshirts - just gone. They don't seem to answer the phone. Not sure how to prove that the clothes I brought in were not returned. read more

TL;DR: Do not waste your money here unless you enjoy being treated like the dirt these lazy shrews are pushing around the laundromat's floor. Full Story: Came here to wash a queen sized duvet, fleece throw blanket, and three small throw pillows. Split that into two washer loads in their biggest machines, and had no issue getting everything clean. Loaded the same items into the equally large driers, put in quarters and walked away for a moment. Cue issue one: drier #20's door popped open, dumping one of the small items onto the floor. I grant it the five second rule, and put it back into the drier (pushing the pillows and blanket around to make sure it's balanced). Less than a minute later, the door pops open again, and dumps another item onto the floor. I seek out an employee to ask if either there is some trick to making the door stay latched, or if she can refund my quarters so that I can try another machine. Cue issue #2: The employee snapped "too heavy! too much!" without looking at the load, and insisted the machine was not at fault. I pointed out that it was only a few lightweight items, and that my duvet (in the next drier, by itself) is far heavier yet not escaping its drier. She simply repeated "too heavy!" and walked away from the half-a**'ed job she was doing mopping the floor with an dingy towel on a stick. I tested the seal/how secure the door to each of the machines I was using felt, and discover that there was a drastic difference. Drier #19 (with the legitimately unwieldy item) has that satisfying "click" when closed, and is completely sealed. Drier #20 (with items small enough to fit in an average sized home drier--joke's on me for thinking these large capacity industrial ones would do the job better) felt like a weak magnet failing to grip, and you could feel the hot air escaping along the edges of the presumably closed door. Cue issue #3: Seek out different employee, because first was actively avoiding me at this point, and this one just shrugged and refused to even go look at the machine. Went back to folding clothes behind the counter. What the actual hell? Rudest customer "service" I have ever experienced. I ended up having to stand next to the faulty drier holding the door shut for the entire cycle. Sure, I could have just forfeited the couple of dollars and switched machines, but I didn't want to give them a single cent more than I already had. Another customer doing their own laundry next to me witnessed the situation and confirmed this is the normal way the employees handle issues there... They don't even try to help, and are instantly agitated and defensive if you ask them anything. Please note that the positive reviews for this place are for people utilizing the drop off service, who A) aren't there to witness their clothes repeatedly falling on the floor and B) do not have to interact with these unpleasant, greedy women for more than a minute at a time. read more

NASTY!!!!! FUNK NASTY!!!! My regular place in Lawrence (rhymes with cheesy) apparently closes at 8:00. So I googled and this one popped up with a ton of amazing Google reviews. Okay, strike one on me - should have used Yelp. This place is sooooo foul. Like soooo foul. As I was loading the washers up, I was thinking to myself, self, the dirty clothes you are putting in will actually come out dirtier. Why do you leave everything to the last minute so you have no options. 1. First - all coins. They rock it retro here. And the ATM - oh there isn't one. So I had to go to Walgreens to get cash so that I could get $30 in fricking quarters. 2. Largest washer is a triple loader. If you are reacting to that - then good for you. You clearly do your wash properly - which is way more often than me. 3. SPOILER ALERT - YOU WILL GAG IF YOU CONTINUE READING. These machine are ANCIENT - they still have knobs. But whatever, right? Two that I opened reeked of front loader mildew. But whatever, right? LAST CHANCE TO STOP READING.... the reservoirs for the detergents are so visually SKANK, I almost threw up in my mouth. Plenty of visible mold and years of disgusting junk build up. See pics. 4. The most disgusting thing - is that I went ahead and used them. I have company arriving tomorrow morning and need the sheets and towels clean. I disgust me. I felt so skeeved out, I immediately went and washed my hands. If I could give this place zero star, I would. Thought I give this laundry mat a try. Turns out I will stay away and never come back. Too small, machine socks, worker sucked as well. The washing machine: I end up using 2 triple loaders, and 1 double loaders for my clothes. They dont have big machines. The triple loaders isn't even deep enough. Spent 31 quarters. The drying machine: 1 quarter= 10 mins! 10 mins! U have to put like 3 quarters to completely dry your clothes. Normally the places I go is 25 or 30 mins. But 10 mins?? Talk about rip off. The parking: it's so cramped. The worker: I ended up short on quarters. I went to car and had 50 cents in nickels dimes and pennies. I ask the worker if I can get 50 cents but she refused to take the pennies. It's still money geez. Where's the customer service? It's not my fault ur store rips customers off with the 10 min drying. Go to the one on California and Lawrence, more parking space, better washing machine and dryers, and nice workers read more

With only one washer & one dryer in our apartment building, my husband & I began outsourcing our laundry to A&L about a year ago. We have them wash our warm water, non-delicate clothes that can be put in the dryer (towels, sheets, etc.) and we do the cold water, delicate clothes at home. There are two women there that primarily take care of drop offs; both speak somewhat limited English and are very friendly. They do a great job (very rarely does anything shrink) and are really quick...usually there's about a 4 hour turnaround - much quicker than doing it at home. Plus, prices are really reasonable. Around 70 cents per pound, which is less than half of what it costs at Lincoln Park or Bucktown laundromats. read more

I was in A & L tonight doing laundry for my daughter who just had surgery. The woman who was managing the place was so rude both when we stopped by earlier in the day to inquire about hours and again at night when I brought the laundry in. I lost 50 cents in the dryer and she refused to reimburse me as if I was some sort of criminal. I guess she is rude and mean because she works in this sweatshop all day but I was not impressed. I dropped off laundry today to have serviced since I am a student who works a lot while in school. The only time I have to do laundry is sunday evening when the place is busy. Down the street they charge 50 cents per pound but I have had positive experiences in the past with the same attendant that I am about to talk about so I decided to support A&L instead. They charge 70 cents per pound which is not a bad price for laundry service so i splurged. Picked up my laundry and some of it was hanging although I assured the attendant that I didn't need her to do that. It was a nice surprise after a long day. I carted my belongings (two bags of clothes and a hanging unit of shirts) to my car and drove home. I took the hanging bag and one of the bags into my apartment and came back down to get the other one. I didn't carry them from where they were tied purposefully because they're in plastic bags and i noticed a hole in the first bag that i took up first. I lifted the second bag off of the seat of the car like you would a grocery bag and the bottom fell out. This would not be a big deal if it weren't raining and they didn't fall into grass/dirt/water. I was able to save most of the items but a sweater, a hoodie and two pairs of pants were casualties. I immediately called A & L to see if they would wash the four items for free considering I had just spent $29.40 to have my laundry washed. The woman kept repeating to me "I didn't do that". UPDATE: I spoke with the manager and she was awesome. Perhaps I just had a chance interaction with that attendant. I still only gave four stars because I somehow received a sweater from another person's laundry. read more

I've owned my own house for years so I haven't been to a laundromat since...I dunno...college?? But my recent move to an apartment in the city made it inevitable (well...that and getting bumps all over my chest from doing a load of clothes in the nasty basement washer and dryer in my apartment but that's another story LOL!). I Yelped this place and found some good reviews and they are all spot on. The ladies working there were helpful and funny. TV's were kept at a low level so those not interested in what was on weren't bothered. The place was immaculate and cheaper than Spin Cycle just up the street ($1.50 for a single load wash...$2 at SC) Hours are 7a-10p with the last wash starting at 9p if you're looking for odd hours! I've found this establishment to be clean and friendly. It's Saturday morning 6:15 am and no one in sight. They have a posted time of 6:00 am - 10:00 pm. I would call ahead from now on when trying to do laundry at 6:00 am on a Saturday morning. And thus the reasoning for the poor rating. read more

This was my neighborhood laundry but never again! Attendants barely speak English and too many quarters lost to washers and dryers. Don't even get me started on the daily child races inside. The last straw was the carts. Not enough and now you can't bring them to your car to load up. You have to carry everything inside now and then carry everything out- carts can only be used inside the laundromat. Not looking forward to falling down in the parking lot carrying my own laundry.
