I took my truck there cause it was leaking water, I was told nothing was wrong with it, they did a pressure check and told me to come back next week to re check it, I took it back and all of a sudden it was the water pump, he install a new one a week later I was still doing the same thing, I took back and they said it was normal. This may be the most honest businessman I have ever met. While out of town, I left my car with a hotel valet. When I got it back, my muffler was making noise (not terrible, but definitely something had changed). When I got back in town, I found A&B (Steve). He welcomed me right in, quickly identified the problem and made the repair (welded a hole). He let me stand nearby to see what he was doing. 15 minutes later, everything done! I asked how much. He said $30. Any other muffler shop would have you wait in the lobby, perform the same repair and charge you probably $100 (or more). I told Steve to hit my card for $50. Not worried about a customer who paid a tow to get there waiting all day long and no service never go back to this place again

May 2023 entering a refund dispute with A & B Mufflers. The catalytic converters they put on failed - within the warranty period. They started rattling, so I brought them into two non-related mechanic shops. Six mechanics in these two different shops know they were rattling when I brought them in. Both shops and all mechanics said the cats had failed. I contacted AB who said they'd refund me. Once I arrived in person with the cats I was refused a refund, because the cats rattled. That's why I had them replaced! They are refusing to refund me, so I'll dispute the charge. FYI per anyone looking for a shop with reputable practices and proficient mechanical work. read more

Steve (owner) is great and I am a big fan of this shop. I needed a special order Magnaflow 12909 muffler for my 2018 GMC Sierra with the 6.2L engine and Steve got it in same day. I called him in the morning and it was delivered just after lunch. I drive right over there, get it in the bay on the lift and he has it installed himself in less than 30 minutes. This place is so awesome. My husband had installed a side rails on our Jeep and part of it needed grinding down because it was rubbing. We offered to pay him for his time and electricity for the grinder but he refused my husband insisted but he closed the door and said no. This is the fourth job these guys have done for me and my wife and son took care of it. The son's car has the O2 sensor in the tail pipe, nots the exhaust manifold. A crack developed t the O2 sensor and the exhaust pipe broke at that point. I told the wife we would pay up to $200, which she told the shop! Final price? $60, not $199. Was given the price over the phone. Was the exact price I was charged. Owner took me under my pickup and showed me what was wrong. Was going to cost me 1200 bucks through a big time service shop. They gave me a fair price for an exhaust leak fix so I left my truck for repair. An hour after I dropped off my vehicle I received a call saying that they didn't estimate properly and it was going to cost over 3 times the initial esitmate because there was a lot more work involved. They were still able to complete this job in the half-day they originally quoted me, yet the labor costs were 3 times more. (Only parts related costs involved were a gasket and 2 bolts). They did a good job, but I will not be returning because of their inability to estimate within 300% of the original price. read more

I took a Lexus sc400 into Steven's shop when I had problems with brakes and power steering. I told him this was my late father's car and it had been sitting and I was not sure if power steering fluid had coagulated or if there was a power steering pump problem. I asked him for a high price estimate to fix power steering pump replacement and to change pads and rotors and he told me about $300-350. We both understood that he would need to check the car out further to get exact costs and he assured me he would contact me before working on the car. I told him this was my late father's car and I was selling it and did not want to invest a large amount of money in a car that I was not planning on keeping. I had already gotten an estimate from a service station across the street from his garage for $150 (rotors and pads for all four wheels) I told him brake pedal went all the way to floor and I assumed there may be more to fix problem than just rotors and pads. Without ever receiving a call from Steven outlining the problems he had found he decided to put brake pads, rotor and calipers on the back wheels only and put on a serpentine belt. I did not need a power steering pump at all. According to him the serpentine belt was the cause of power steering problem. So, without any notification of price or any phone call to let me know what the actual problems were, he decides to put on the belt and replace back brake pads, rotor and caliper. He then charges me $440 and threatens to keep car if I do not pay him. But the lack of phone call is not even the worst part of this. Even though he took it upon himself to do the work I mentioned above he did not fix the main problem with the brakes at all. The brake pedal still goes all the way to the floor board making it impossible to stop car safely. This is because the car needed brake booster replaced. The estimates I have received on fixing this problem is another $450. So, because Steven decided to half way fix the brakes and do additional work I am stuck paying about $1000 dollars that I am not keeping and has too many miles to make the money back on these repairs. He knew all this and knew exactly what he was doing. He knew I would tell him that I would not want to repair car at all before selling. When I confronted him about the lack of phone call and actual pricing he became belligerent (yelling and pacing the floor in uncontrolled unprofessional manner) After paying Steven to get my car away from him, he points out that if I do not like what he did then I should take him to small claims court. Even though, we all know what a hassle that is going to be he has left me no recourse. I would not trust the positive reviews that can be so easily manipulated because I would be amazed if this the first time he has treated his customers this way. read more

I've used A & B at this Hurst location for over 10 years now and finally decided I should speak up and let everybody know what those of us who have experienced Stephen Riley's car services, know about how good it is. No, I'm not talking about the building or the waiting room. Those would only get 1-2 stars. But those are not the most important thing to me when I'm getting my car worked on. It's the service I'm provided and the cost. It's in those two areas that A & B excels and why I give 5 stars. First of all, I've never had to take my car back to them for any reason...they have always fixed it right the first time. Secondly, on more than one occasion I've been shocked when I get my bill. Not because it's so large, but because it's so small. I realize that is not something most of us are accustomed to when we're dealing with automobile service on our vehichles, but I'm not kidding. I'll just used today's example. We finally took my 00 Ford Windstar into the shop, as it's fuel pump has been causing trouble off and on for about 3 years now (hey, it's 13 years old and has 186k). We first checked with Pep Boys and they wanted $600+ to replace the pump (part and 3 hours labor). To add the fuel filter was going to cost me extra. On the other hand, my bill from A & B today?...$400.00. And Stephen even included the labor for the fuel filter. That was $200 labor and $200 for a complete new fuel pump assembly and the new filter. That's what I'm talking about! Shocking prices and service (in a GOOD way!). As I said, the same thing has happened to me before when he performed a complete brake job. Which by the way, I've had my brakes and mufflers replaced on many cars throughout the years and nobody does it better (although many do it much more expensively). I'm not sure when, but at least over the last several years they began doing other work besides brakes and mufflers, which is why I took my fuel pump issue to them. He told me they now do all types of work except transmissions. So there you have it. If you think I'm just pulling your leg, just do what I did. Call a couple of places and get an estimate, then call Stephen at A & B and ask him for an estimate. Surprise! :) By the way, you'll know if he answers the phone...he's a South African native and his accent will give him away. read more
