Continue to love this place. I made the mistake of going to Curry's again when I needed an oil change and tire rotation. Twice in a row they gave my boyfriend a $40 discount and wouldn't give me a discount even when I mentioned that I had the coupon and forgot it (he never asked but got the discount anyway which seems unfair). The second time it happened my boyfriend agreed that something definitely seemed up. Luckily I had previously had good experiences here so took the drive out for my next oil change. It's only a little further away for me than Curry's, but the service was better and price was lower. My car was done in just over an hour. The oil change was $13 cheaper and the tire rotation was $10 cheaper. Much better for female customers, although they do have pinup-style calendars for sale that are AA Auto Service branded. read more

Zac and his crew did a lights out job! Changed out the entire exhaust system on my truck today. I called this morning, they got me in and on the lift the second I showed up, very reasonable estimate, ordered the parts and did the job in the afternoon. Excellent, fair and HONEST auto mechanic place! Went to a local car dealer, they said we had a number of issues with our vehicle. Bobby and his crew cut the list down considerably because we didn't really have issues, and they gave us better pricing on the ones we had. On another time, we went to a local tire place for an alignment. They were unable to get the bolt off to do the alignment so they wanted to sell us that unit. A-A Auto (Bobby) said to bring it to him, he will try to get the bolt off. He managed to get the bold unscrewed and greased it up well...no more issues. We will never go anyplace else when our cars need work. read more

I wanted to thank the mechanic once again for his prompt and courteous service on my 1995 Toyota Avalon. It's getting old and the exhaust system, in particular, is showing its age. For the past several years, the mechanic has repaired the exhaust system leak inexpensively where other mechanics have recommended a full replacement of the entire system -- costing more than the value of the car. Thus, I'm able to keep the car on the road for another year, instead of making the difficult decision whether to replace the exhaust or purchase a new car. I couldn't agree more with all of these positive reviews for AA. Bobby is great - easy to work with, always gives you an honest opinion and his prices are competitive. Every time I've had to get my car repaired, the guys at AA have bent over backwards to make it a painless experience. This last time I had something stuck in my tire and they came, blew up the tire, moved the car into their garage and patched it temporarily so I could take it to a tire shop to get new tires. They were the ones who recommended calling a tire shop because they couldn't get the tires I needed until the next day. I would DEFINITELY recommend taking your car to AA. read more

I recommend highly and think I have found my trusted mechanic in Northern Virginia. It started with me needing new tires. Mine were bad, real bad. I went to Mr. Tire in the morning and was getting the hard sell for expensive tires, expensive oil changes, and all for a beat-up 1993 subaru. and when i told the mechanic/salesman that i didn't appreciate the pressure, he got defensive. i had a bad feeling but weren't sure what my options were. he quoted me $360 ish, which included $89 for a wheel alignment. when i got home, i looked on yelp and read about someone who had a bad experience where s/he felt that the mechanic at mr. tire had sought some revenge on her car for not agreeing to purchase all the services he had sold. i was worried that this would happen to me. so i read the great reviews of bobby at AA auto, and i called him there. i explained i didn't have a lot of money and needed tires, and he understood right away, and quoted me a price of about $340. it was more per tire than what mr. tire quoted me, but he said that not every car needs an alignment, it depends on the car. i trust someone who only gives me the services i need. the service was great, bobby was friendly and honest throughout, a real local mechanic, in the best sense of the word. i would recommend him again, and i will go to him if i need assistance again. plus i believe in supporting local business whenever i can afford it. it's a plus that bobby is such a good guy. read more

I have been an AA customer for at least 7 years now and they're the only auto mechanic service providers I trust to give me good reliable service. I like that they're totally honest with me to what my car needs or doesn't need. There were other shops that were dishonest with me and tried to cheat me into getting repairs I didn't need, but this place never tried to pull that on me. For instance, a couple years ago I went to a local Jiffy Lube for a simple oil change and they said I had a car part that needed urgent fixing and that they should do it on the spot. I was suspicious of them so I went to AA Auto for a second opinion. The folks at AA were honest and said there wasn't anything wrong with the part the other guys at the Jiffy Lube mentioned. I got to drive home without having to make repairs. That was even two years ago and the part that Jiffy Lube said needed "urgent fixing" is still working just fine. Thank goodness I went to AA for a second opinion. I'm also never going to a Jiffy Lube again! There hasn't been any mechanical issues they haven't been able to fix so far and they always gave me good, reasonable pricing on services. read more

Last year I got a hole in my radiator and I took my car to AA Auto Service for repair. They got good reviews on Washington Checkbook, so I figured they could repair my radiator with no problems for a good price. When I got the quote I thought it was a little higher than some of the other places I called, but I decided to go with them because of the convenience. They replaced my radiator quickly with no problems, and overall I had a good experience. This past month I started having major power steering issues, so I took my car back here for repair. As I was going on the test drive I was told it was probably either the power steering pump or the power steering rack, which was MUCH more expensive. Well it turned out to be the power steering rack, which was upward of $1400. In addition I was given a long laundry list of other things wrong with my car. One of those was my ball joints which I was told quite a few times that I would not be able to pass inspection in the condition they are in now, so I should really think about getting them fixed, sooner rather than later. Well turns out, they weren't that bad and I was able to pass my state inspection today. I was also told that my brakes and rotors would also need to be replaced soon, which I believe is also a major factor in state inspections. I feel like if these things were as bad as they were making it seem, I would've gotten a rejection sticker. It makes me think they were just out for money, and that maybe my power steering pump was actually the problem which probably would've been around $500, $600 at the most. Instead they said it was the rack and made double the money off of me. I feel like not only was I ripped off in a big way but they tried to do it over and over and over again. It is definitely a lesson learned. I've lost all trust in this business and will not be returning. I would highly suggest getting a second opinion before deciding to get your car repaired here. read more

After reading the positive reviews earlier, I took my car in to AA Auto last evening for some repairs. The problem I was having was - my Jetta was making strange humming noises at higher speeds (it didnt make any noise when it was idling or at low speeds). After doing some research online, I found that this in all probability meant that my wheel bearings were bad. Bobby is definitely a helpful guy as the other reviewers have pointed out - and he too correctly diagnosed the problem. My wheel bearings were in fact completely gone, and needed to be replaced. The problem however was the quote - Bobby gave me a quote for nearly $800! - for replacing both my rear wheel hub and bearing assemblies. While the cost of labor was reasonable, I was quoted over $280 for each wheel hub and bearing assembly. A quick search online revealed that I could have bought these parts online - BRAND NEW - for as low as $50. Hmmm..... So I was just quoted and charged about $450 more - OUCH!!! That said, the reason I still like AA Auto is because I have taken my car in for repair on this exact issue to a couple of other shops (see my other reviews) but no one else was able to solve the problem (all I got were big fat bills, with no resolution to the problem). So Bobby and AA Auto Service get 3 stars simply for being competent. If you have to take your car in for repairs at AA Auto, my suggestion would be - get Bobby and crew to diagnose the problem, tell them you will buy the parts yourself (he apparently has no problem with this per earlier reviews), and have them fix it. This seems to be the best way to get the job done - AND - save some dough! Hope this helps. read more

I've taken my car here for inspections in the past, since they're not very busy and can usually get them done quickly. They did an OK job with the inspections and didn't over-charge me. However, I had a much more negative experience when I brought my car to them to diagnose a check-engine light. They ran the codes, pronounced that my problem was just a loose gas cap, tightened the cap, and that was all. Then they charged me $88 for the privilege of having my gas cap tightened, without informing me ahead of time that there would be such a charge. Needless to say, I will not be going to them for any more repairs. read more

I brought my '16 Range Rover with brake problems after a DIY brake pad change (don't even think about it.) Bobby, the owner, is amazing. The night before Thanksgiving, I drove into DC to see my boyfriend, and my car would not start. I was freaking out, as I had to be at work in Virginia early the next morning, and all mechanics were closed on T-day. I hopped on yelp to see any mechanics in my area I could tow the car to. I called Bobby and he answered the phone even though the shop was closed, proceeded to diagnose my problem, even looking up my engine on his computer to describe what needed to be done. He explained to my boyfriend how to hit the airflow valve gently with a hammer, and PRESTO! my card started. He was my guardian angel. Since then, I've taken my car to him for my 60K maintenance which I think was excellent, reasonably priced, and completely honest. Just this weekend my headlight went out, so I bought the replacement bulb and Bobby's crew popped it in for me, no charge! This is really the most honest owner and excellent service I've EVER found in a mechanic and I will gladly take all my car service to AA Auto service, and highly recommend everyone else looking for a great mechanic to do so. Mechanics like these are few and far between in this area. Honest, nice, helpful, and fair just to name a few qualities. I usually do all my own car work but some things are just out of my reach, and then there's emissions and inspection. Last time i did state inspection at a place in Tyson's Corner and they failed me and told me i needed $700 worth of work on my Jeep. I laughed and told them it was impossible, turns out I was right and they lied flat out to me, trying to strong arm me into repairs i didn't actually need (Sunoco Gas Station 2084 Chain Bridge Rd. Vienna, VA 22182 - NEVER GO THERE) But at A-A Auto they will do both and call you if anything is remotely wrong and discuss your options instead of just failing you, lie to you, etc. I've taken cars there before and had them recommend something cheaper I could do myself to fix it rather than A-A Auto doing an expensive repair. They actually care about their customers which seems non-existent in the DC Metro area when it comes to mechanics . No matter what work you need done, get an opinion from these guys first if nothing else. It will save you loads of $$$. read more

This is the place to go. I took my old Dodge in because it'd been running hot (after 200k miles I don't blame it; I miss her already!). The previous mech couldn't really figure it out but these guys took her overnight and called me to say that the coolant system was fried: cracks in the radiator, hoses, and reservoir. Said he could repair it for an actually reasonable rate, but still advised against it! He added it was unsafe to drive because the coolant could pour out at any given time. I, of course, kept driving it but it did exactly as advertised. Limped home but bought a new car. End result: quick, accurate diagnosis. Reasonable repair quote but honest advice. Turned out exactly as predicted. What more could you ask for? read more

This is a great mom-and-pop business. I've been there a couple of times. I took my car in today and was impressed as I waited to overhear the owner tell a customer he would reduce the labor cost because he didn't want to charge him too much. The technician diagnosed a transmission problem with my vehicle and recommended that I take it to the dealership because it was still covered by a power-train warranty. When I asked how much I owed them for the diagnostic, they didn't charge me a penny. When it comes to cars it's hard to know when you're being told the truth, so when I come across a repair shop whose honesty is apparent, I stick with them. read more

I had my front brakes and rotors changed at this place on 3/16/2010. On 3/21/2010 my brake light came on and stayed on when my parking brake was down. Having never experienced this, I googled my problem and learned all about my brake fluid reservoir and how to check my brake fluid level (I know that I should have already known this, but this is still my first car and it's been pretty problem-free). I checked and the fluid was low so I replenished it. Eight days later (today) the brake light came on again. Uh oh, time to take it back to these guys and see what the problem is. Well I take it back to Bobby and drop it off so they can figure out if I have a leak now. A couple of hours later he calls saying that the front right brake hose has a leak and for $160 I can have it replaced. I'm not too car savvy so I call my grandfather, who technically still owns my car and has always handled the repairs, and tell him to give Bobby a call to discuss the technical stuff. So he calls and now there is only a loose washer on the brake hose that he is going to fix free of charge. Bobby also tells my grandfather that he was about to call and tell me this. I don't want to assume anything, but I honestly believe I was going to be ripped off and that does not make me happy. I really wanted to like this place because of it's previous reviews and convenient location, but I will sadly have to keep looking for a good, honest mechanic up here. read more

Radley Acura has been telling me (each time I go in for my oil change) that I need to change my timing belt (and water pump, 2 dry belts, and cam & crank seals). On my last visit they told me that the timing belt could snap and ruin my engine. That got my attention. Their bid was $879 with parts and labor (but they won't replace the seals). I decided to shop around. First I looked on Yelp - I called two from this site- AA Auto Service gave the best price ($632) with the most honest sounding guy (Bobby) who gave me the quote. I told him how Acura said I had to replace this all at 7 years or 90,000 miles, whichever came first. According to Bobby, and his trusty computer software, I actually don't need to replace it until 105,000 miles. Hmm. Apparently, timing belts can break at 30,000 miles or 130,000 miles in any car, but Acuras are good until 105K. So, based on honest y and best price alone (in conjunction with Cindy S's review), I am going to recommend this place and will SURELY go here the next time I need ANY repair!!! read more

I have never ever written a review for anything before, but Bobby is so wonderful I decided to make an exception. I was being lazy so I took my car to a mechanic near my house (I live in Alexandria) for its yearly inspection ; it needed new rear brake rotors and pads. The mechanic quoted $551 to replace the rotors. I told them to take a flying leap and then did what I should have done in the beginning and called Bobby. He quoted $290 over the phone and then actually charged me $270 when it was all said and done. I trust him completely, if he says something needs to be done I listen. Next time I'm going to save myself the grief and go directly to Bobby. You should too! read more
