We have a 39 year old cement tile roof. Tiles break once and awhile due to wind debris or ice build up. It is a life time roof but things do happen The other day I noticed a tile with a large piece missing. Why we did not have a rain leak is a head scratcher. I called A-1 as they are one of the few roofers who know how to walk on and repair a tile roof. Many make that claim. Most are clueless. They came out the next day and a man named Tom Hall went up and fixed it in minutes, free of charge (a very small job but important one)! He also pointed out, with photos, a number of broken tiles that were in need of repair. I was not surprised. We agreed to have these repairs made and, on the basis it was compeleted before the end of August and the start of the "monsoons". He said he'd work us in between the bigger jobs they had. A day later, he indeed worked us in long before my August dead line. The roof was fixed and is now "tight". The response to the initial repair and the larger repair was much quicker than I anticipated. I also felt condifent in Tom's advice and comments about what needed to be done. No hard sell. They get one star because the roof is beautiful. They loose the rest because they destroyed the yard and house. My LIMITED EDITION PROPERTY BROTHERS GNOMES were broke. They destroyed my flower bed and all the potted plants around my house there's roofing debris on every plant. my lavender is squished I had to completely take out my Veronica and mums. They broke branches off the tree next to my drive way then shoved the branches back up into the tree as if I wouldn't notice. There was hot Cheetos in my flower bed. They parked on my grass. Even though we parked in the street for them. My whole garage is covered in sawdust and nails my laundry room is in my garage so I have to rewash all that laundry. I was helping a friend out holding some of her kitchen items and now she has to toss all that stuff. And to top it all off it's the next day at 5pm and the owner/manager hasn't shown up yet even though he was contacted this morning. read more

Well done Mike and a good job done by your crew. More than ok with these guys. Despite huge cost increases in materials Mike did his best to keep it under control. When compared to other companies Mike's quote was still good wheras another company wanted to just throw a new metal roof over the old leaky existing one to save labor costs but not Mike. He did it properly and I didn't end up with a layer cake like the other guy quoted me to have. And....unlike the crappy landscaping contractor I had out last week, Mike's crew finished the job. Very happy with the entire process and result of the work that A-1 did. I was getting some serious interior leaks in my home a few weeks before Christmas. Shane came out promptly to do an assessment of the situation, and advised a full replacement of the roof (which pre-dated my decade-long ownership of the home). Then we hit several weeks of intense rain, holidays and snow. As soon as the weather conditions allowed for work, Shane had a team of 8 guys show up nice and early on a Saturday. They ended up having to replace 19 sheets of wet and degraded plywood. They worked till after dark, but managed to bust out the whole thing in one day. The crew was generally conscientious of moving things from around the home, and they did a really good cleanup afterwards. Highly recommend them. read more

Good, responsible roofing contractor. We purchased a home with an existing 50 year warranty which was transferred to us. Recently, we had an issue after new gutters were installed that caused a leak on the side of the home. Although the issue was likely caused by gutter installers, A-1 Roofing came out in a couple of days, climbed up, inspected the situation and made several improvements. They could have just blamed the gutter installer and not done anything, but the fact they went above and beyond to make sure our roof is good is really impressive. Not a good time to have leaks coming through the ceiling. called A1. Required immediate assistance and that's exactly what I got with A1, Olympia. I called them on Thursday, they came out and wrote up an estimate on the spot. It rained continuously throughout the weekend, (january 28-30). I called Monday. they advised they just needed the permit and would make it a priority to get out to my house as the roof was leaking. On Tuesday morning the crew arrived. They had 8 workers on that roof. I was impressed. The job was finished in one day. They also fixed the flashing and worked hard not to acclude the gutters. I appreaciate so much their effort to move up their schedule on an emergent basis. Though the cost of a new roof hurts. We all know that ahead of time. Any changes to the estimate were discussed before they did the work. Clean up was "thorough" with zero damage to plants or yard. FIVE big stars. read more

I had the same result as Kurt R. Chris from A-1 came out, very personable, gave me a very competitive bid right away for a small job but could not get the office to return my call even after I called them a second time confirming I would like them to do the job and asking to be put on the schedule. I was told they would get my paperwork and call me back, nothing for three days. I went with another roofer. Too bad for A-1 since I'm probably replacing my entire roof in the next couple years but they won't be doing it. read more

I contacted A-1 in Olympia based on reviews here on yelp. I needed a small repair to a roof and their website said they do these. I called and asked if they would be able to do this. They sent a man named Mike out to look at the repair and give an estimate. After the initial contact from Mike, which was done within a week of my call, he provided an estimate and asked if I was interested in getting placed on a schedule. I of course said yes and wanted to have the roof repaired. So long story short, after 6 weeks or so, I have never gotten a reply, a schedule or a hey F*** you we don't want to do your job. The fact there was never any communication is really disappointing. I would not recommend this business. read more

They came in and did a complete tear-down, replacing many of the destroyed/rotted old particle boards on the roof and put the new architectural shingles on, all by hand nailing! We just had A-1 complete a tear-off and re-roofing of our home in Lacey. Not only was Mike always very prompt for our appointments but he was able to explain the details I did not understand. We decided to select A-1 because, not only was there price competitive but they were hand nailing the roof and supplying a superior under layment than the other bids. Our roof was completed far ahead of the date planned, as and opening had come available in their schedule! Mike was there on Saturday morning to get the crew going and they worked efficiently through out the day. My daughter was at the home while the work was progressing and state all the workers were very appropriate with her and the children. I had a re-roof done on my house in October, from A1 Roofing. From the first contact regarding the quote to the finished roof, I had a very professional and honest experience. Shane and his crew did a great job. As the removal of the existing roof was taking place, it was found that some of the sheathing was compromised. I was called immediately and told of the issue and what was needed to be done to fix it. This did take the re-roof from a one day to a two day project. A1 Roofing employees are very good at what they do and I was very happy with the finished product. My roof is a little steeper than most. That did nothing to slow them down. After everything was buttoned up I noticed and an issue that needed to be addressed. I called Shane and he came out, looked at the issue and had an employee come out the very next day to get it fixed. There was also some debris left around my house. Shane and another employee made quick work of that as well. Shane made it clear that he did not want to be paid for this job until the job was done to my approval, including the that final cleanup. I recently had A-1 come out to give me an estimate on a newly formed water spot. The professional who came out was polite & through. Instead of trying to upsell me, he said there wasn't anything wrong. Probably a former spot that just seeped through the paint on the ceiling. They didn't even charge me for the estimate. I had a favorite roofer who was too busy to come check out a leak. Called A-1 based on the Yelp reviews and was told they were really busy but would see what the could do. Called me back in about 20 minutes, arrived on time, and checked out the issue. Turned out the leak was caused by stuff that had blown onto the roof causing a back up. Ryan swept it off and left without charging me anything. Okay, that was service. That was excellent. read more
