Love our new floors! We used A1 Flooring to replace our old plank style hardwood floors in our family room, living room and dining room. Mike the owner was very patient and helpful as we went back and forth trying to make the right decision for our floors. Come to find out our old floors were uneven and the original subfloor underneath was unstable. Tony the carpenter reinforced the original subfloor and a new subfloor installed on top. Very sorry we went w/ this company. We researched companies and brands and went w/ them for the cheaper installation price. I guess that's what we paid for. The installer was in a rush and his work proved it. As we would call the office wondering when the installer would be coming back, we were instructed to notify the installer himself(???) . No return phone calls from him. There were issues regarding the installation and waited for the "Final walkthrough" at the endand we waited....and waited for the owner to come. Sure, "everything can be fixed". We held off $250 of the final payment as security until touch ups were made, so glad we did, they never came back. If they do, we have their list still sitting on the front table. That's alright. We just wont recommend them. read more

I'm generously giving this company 2 stars because they showed their lack of professionalism and poor communication skills BEFORE the workers stepped foot into my home. For that, I thank them. "Mike" came to our house by way of a referral from the handyman at our townhouse. I didn't know Mike and he made no mention of his company. (I later found out that he runs A-1 Hardwood.) After the initial assessment, he texted that he would be over to start the floor repair Friday between 8 and 9 a.m. At 8:40 on Friday, 2 men pull up in a shabby white van with no company logo. They were looking for Michelle. I said "There's no Michelle here. Who are you?" He says "I'm Mike." Then after I replied that he's not the Mike that was here last week, this new Mike said "Never mind." He turned, walked away, and left. He had spent a total of 10 seconds at my front door. He had no interest at all in clearing the confusion of who I was or who he was. He just walked away, and left his partner standing there on the sidewalk. I texted the original Mike, and explained what happened. He replied with this text message: "Alright just get somebody else then we have workers that do the work I run a company I can't be at every job. I understand just get somebody else. thank you." Until this point, I thought the original Mike was an independent subcontractor. There was never any communication about who would be coming or even what I should expect. No instruction about how to prep for the flooring work. I'm glad Mike #2 turned and walked away. It gives me the creeps to think this caliber of person would have been working in my home. As he walked away, I saw for the first time "A-1 Hardwood" on the back of his jacket, so then I realized the company name. I was never given a business card by either Mike. Based on other reviews, seems like they do good work. Just don't expect them to get your name right or be able to communicate basic information. I think they're too busy to be bothered. Whoever knocks at your door, just let them in and don't ask any questions. Otherwise, Mike the boss will tell you to get someone else to do the work! read more

I can't say enough positive comments about this company! From the beginning they were clear,knowledgeable, and considerate. Their work is SUPERB! This company went out of their way to see I got the color and finish I wanted. They were great at covering my doors and cabinets to keep out the dust. The work was practically dust free. They even helped me move some heavier pieces of furniture. I had A-1 refinish a bedroom and kitchen floor and will gladly hire them again. We went with A-1 Flooring on a written quote & promises from their salesman on the great job they would do with sanding & staining our 65 year old floors. To our surprise when we were at work when they were sanding our home in Aug. 2014 they turned on all the window air conditioners which caused all the wood particles to be pulled into the air conditioners & totally ruined them. Mike and the salesman had no idea that the guys turned on the air conditioners and ruined them. We asked several times for Mike to come out to see the damage which he finally did. The floor was also finished wrong with what appeared to be a satin or no protection at all. My husband called Mike back regarding the poor job done and he said he would come out to look at the floors but he still has not called or stopped by. I would not recommend A-1 Flooring. read more

A1 had put the wood floors in our home before we bought it but we still had carpeting in the living room and family room. I called A1 and they came back and we put hardwood floors into those rooms. I was concerned it wouldn't match. Let me tell you something- it looks spectacular. You cannot tell that part of the floors were put in three years ago and part of them are new. They did an awesome job. I would highly recommend them to anybody. We love our floors now. read more

Mike worked on our home about 10 years ago. He is the worse! Doesn't care about anyone else's time but his. Even his guys thought he was a joke, saying he always messes up estimates. He hires anyone and workmenship doesn't matter. His company laid a bathroom tile floor that butted up to wood floor - they installed. I asked him about the large separation between to two - typical Mike "you can go get some caulk and fill that in". And NOTHING is his fault. He messed up the wood floor they installed - NOT HIS FAULT! He hired some guy and sent him to my home to install another bathroom floor, the guy had no idea what he was doing - didn't put thin set under all the tile just the middle - I have pictures. The process could be explained better and communication as to when workers will come, how to prepare your house for the job, among some other details. We had A-1 install wood flooring in an office addition, then refinish all of our 1st floor wood floors. We planned to leave town so I gave specific instructions to please close windows and lock doors at the end of each work day. Mike made many promises. He called the day we were due home and said they had a problem and had to re-do the floors. He agreed to pay hotel costs. That evening we arrived and went by the house, but they were gone...but guess what? They left the front door unlocked and the window to the dining room wide open - with no screen on. And then we saw the floors - they were wavy. We gave them the additional requested days, but when we came and looked the floors were still very wavy. He knew it and apologized, saying the one who worked on the floors initially caused the problem. So he offered to do again, which we appreciated. We said to take your time and do them right, so we were out an additional 5 days. But in the end, the floors were still wavy and there were numerous issues including holes in the floor, a few gouges, a part in the 1st floor bathroom that didn't get refinished so it was a different sheen, etc. We asked him to at least come and fix those. It took calling him every single day at various phone numbers to finally get him to respond. I understand he never wanted to see us again - but we were left with subpar floors. In the end he came and did one small repair and then never responded again. Unfortunately, we have lost our floor investment on this deal. read more

We were given A-1's information from our realtor and I have to say I was really impressed with the swift responses by both Mike & Dean. Dean came out to the house to see the condition of the floors and properly measure everything. We told them about our extremely tight deadline and they were more than accommodating. After the first day of three days, we stopped over to the house to drop off some things (we were in the process of moving) and noticed that all of the lights were still on and that our fuse box cover was taken off-- strange we thought. They finished on a Friday which was right on schedule. The only disappointing part of the project was that they left their trash on the side of our house for us to take care of AND some of our light switches & outlets didn't work. We called A-1 immediately and all-though it took almost a week for Mike to fix the situation (had to end up calling an electrician) everything was fixed and the floors look AMAZING. I would recommend them to someone looking to have their floors redone. read more
