Enter JPG Construction. My sidewalk wasn't that great either, with low spots that collected water or dirt runoff. I decided it was time to replace the sidewalk and stoop. I called a number of contractors for quotes. Some never called back. Others came out and were way off on the price than what I was expecting. John from JPG came by and of all the people, he made the most sense with his approach to replacing the concrete. And he was also $900 lower than the "trusted contractor" in our parish bulletin. And I didn't even want to talk further to some other guy who offered to suspend the railing from ropes overhead as they would pour concrete around it. Don't need to be a cement guy to know he was talking nonsense. John from JPG pretty much kept me updated on the timing of the project, not leaving me in limbo about the project status. When I called him about my building permit being approved, he gave me a pretty good idea of when it would begin. Timing was everything. They broke up the cement the first day, leveled the ground underneath the next. After an inspector from town came to review the work, a cement truck appeared shortly after 7 AM on the 3rd day and poured the cement promptly. By the next morning, the cement was hardened and everything looked great. Sloped sidewalks eliminated a stoop that was too tall to meet local code, plus drained rain water away from the house. In the end, they left no mess or loose chunks of cement lingering behind to remind us of our old sidewalk. The job was done start to finish in a timely manner. It's reassuring to see since some companies tear up the cement then come back a few weeks later to finish it while they simultaneously start other unrelated jobs elsewhere. I heard all sorts of horror stories before doing this cement work and JPG proved to be reputable in all respects. No down payment till work begins, final payment due at the completion of the project. When I'm ready to redo my driveway in a couple years from now, JPG will be at the top of my list for doing that job.

We had several estimates from companies that never returned calls or texts or inflated the costs because they new we needed a new roof ASAP. From the beginning we talked to Cathy who was extremely knowledgeable and talked to us every time we needed to make decissions and she even helped us pick out the color. If she was not available we always got a real person to talk to or had the option of visiting their office. Bob came out and could not have been more compationate to our immediate needs and addressed our problems . The crew was on time, efficient and courtious. Im not sure how anyone can not appreciate the hard work these people do replacing peoples roofs in the heat and poor weather conditions we have had. The history why I have a trust with the company. My latest project was new soffits, gutters and guards. I am very happy that I do not expect to climb the ladders and the soffits are now venting the attic properly. My home now has a much better curb appeal. However, the experience was not like I had in the past. I am very disappointed. Surprise: the next day after 8:00 a sub-contractors van shows up. They are wearing shirts with another firm's name on the back. The worker has a printout with instructions and tells me there in nothing about replacing the freeze boards. The quote was based upon a sales meeting and his instructions. Based upon my past with Peterson I expected the quote was complete. Apparently, they stopped doing clear all inclusive pricing. Sloppy work and left my yard filthy with dozens of nails, aluminum piece, scrap wood insulation all over the yard and deck. I'll be looking for, and picking up the mess over the next few weeks. The use of tarps would have reduced the mess. I had a the roof replaced by Phoenix Exteriors a few weeks earlier and only found three nails near the downspouts. When I pointed out a couple of sloppy points, my home was blamed: "older house is not straight". Flashing with bubbles, and gaps where the strips tuck. The issues show up on the new "freeze boards." Not confident if the boards were put on straight. Taking advantage of elderly customers is not successful business practice. Scheduling: I had to call the office to get on the schedule. I was told Sept, 30, no one showed up. Two days later I called back and transferred to a manager. He seemed surprised and told me he would get back that afternoon. 20 days later I get a call: they are coming out the next day - 7:30 am. Lack of and poor communication is fixable. Peterson had an opportunity keep a returning customer. These issues point to a change in work ethic and can be fixed with a little effort. It's disappointing to see another local business get sloppy.

But the replacement of the cement walk to the garage, and the old concrete slab by the garage, exceeded our expectations. The slab was in horrible condition, broken up, and uneven, undoubtedly due to tree roots. Ricardo and his team removed all of the old cement as well as the offending roots and replaced them with an attractive floor. Needless to say, it is a tremendous improvement. The staff from 3D were very easy to work with, from Frank who came out to set up the work, Alex who helped me with the building permit, to Ricardo who led the team. We obtained several estimates and decided to go with a well-established contractor, Pavestone Brick Paving, based on their reputation and experience. (We decided against hiring landscapers who also installed pavers even though their quotes were somewhat lower.) We visited some paver driveways that Pavestone constructed in our village and were impressed with the quality of their work. We also were bolstered by a visit to their facility in Des Plaines where we met the office staff and viewed the construction equipment. From start to finish, the experience was smooth and pleasant. We worked with Sergio, and I was completely satisfied with the service that he provided. From his initial visit to our house, through the discussions of the quotation, and conversations during the ongoing work, he displayed a pleasant demeanor and maintained contact with us, by phone and email. I felt quite comfortable working with him. He made useful suggestions during the planning process, such as rerouting the lower section of our downspouts below ground to discharge into our yard. I was also pleased that he was able to replace an unneeded section of our old driveway with sod. He provided samples of paver stones to assist us in choosing the best fit for our house and even created computer-generated renderings, depicting our house and driveway with the selected pavers installed (see photo). The job began about a month after we signed the contract. The crew of 5 men, led by Hector, worked tirelessly over a period of 6.5 days, in heat and occasional (light) rain, leading to a very attractive outcome. Each worker knew exactly what to do, and the team did their job in concert like a well-oiled machine. (See the photos which depict the progress of the project, from start to finish.) Luigi told his brother who owns a local pizza place to tell me he would come by but he never did. It seems like one of the 3 loads of concrete brought it for our job was a bad batch or processed with too much water. We are so disappointed and cannot recommend this company.

I was impressed by their work ethic and professionalism. I remember Mike has a brother ( I don't remember his name) who finished off the sidewalk with just the correct runoff pitch. And it was a delight to see their father lay the finishing touches into the drive way's wet cement using a special tool to make the creases. If…read moreI had posted right when the job was finished, it would have been based solely on the experience and I probably would've given it a two star. But after about four years, my backyard patio has held up well and there are no cracks or structural problems. However, at the time of install, the patio was poured a lot higher than the paver patio that it replaced. So high, in fact, that once winter came a few months later, the ground froze and swelled to the point that the back door would not open. The concrete was literally poured even with the door threshold rather than a little bit lower where it should have been. Greg's answer was just to see what happens in the spring and so we did. Luckily, for him, when the ground thawed, the patio did lower just enough so that the back door would open again. We held our breath all summer and fall until winter came again to see if it was rise back up. Fortunately, it didn't much, but the concrete is still right at the threshold level. My advice to anyone would be just to make sure you clarify in advance where the top level of the patio will fall. I didn't really think I needed to specify that I still wanted to be able to use my back door. One other detail that is rather minor, but when you're paying thousands of dollars for something you kind of want it to be perfect... at least at first. Our backyard spigot is right over one of the corners of the patio and it is what they used to draw water from for the project. That part is fine but once they smoothed out the concrete, they did not make sure that the spigot was all the way off, and it dripped water on top of the new concrete, leaving a very noticeable flaw. I tried to address it with him, and I was treated like I was being unreasonable and that I shouldn't worry about it. They did a little something to patch it, but you can still see it and it's a flaw, which is a shame because of the rest of the patio looked beautiful. I do have a very nice patio now, but something else that kept me from being totally satisfied was just his treatment of his customer. I feel like I'm a pretty reasonableperson, but I am the customer and I am paying for the job so I feel like I should have room to make some requests. We've had a lot of issues with our grass from other things, so I requested that they only walk on one side of the house, which was a little bit farther for them, but not much. I got a lot of complaining and grumbling, but he reluctantly agreed. He made it very clear to me that this was very inconvenient for him. They did put down boards as a path for the carrying of the concrete in the wheelbarrows, but they backed the cement truck up over the curb and easement and past the sidewalk which completely destroyed the grass in my easement and front of my yard. For the next year, I was finding chunks of gravel and concrete in my easement and front yard from spillage. After having very reasonable conversations with him about being careful of the lawn and the high level of the patio and the drip flaw, he actually said to my face," boy, you are a piece of work!". I only said," well, I know what I want for my project since I'm paying for it". I didn't really want to piss him off in the middle of the project, but I was really pretty angry that sealed the deal that even if the patio turned out nice, I would never be hiring him or recommending him again. That kind of arrogant attitude is not very good customer service. I'm sure there are plenty of other concrete companies that will do as good or better a job and treat their customers with respect.
