We undertook this project with a great deal of trepidation. Our 60-year old concrete driveway was in sore need of replacement. We obtained several estimates and decided to go with a well-established contractor, Pavestone Brick Paving, based on their reputation and experience. (We decided against hiring landscapers who also installed pavers even though their quotes were somewhat lower.) We visited some paver driveways that Pavestone constructed in our village and were impressed with the quality of their work. We also were bolstered by a visit to their facility in Des Plaines where we met the office staff and viewed the construction equipment. From start to finish, the experience was smooth and pleasant. We worked with Sergio, and I was completely satisfied with the service that he provided. From his initial visit to our house, through the discussions of the quotation, and conversations during the ongoing work, he displayed a pleasant demeanor and maintained contact with us, by phone and email. I felt quite comfortable working with him. He made useful suggestions during the planning process, such as rerouting the lower section of our downspouts below ground to discharge into our yard. I was also pleased that he was able to replace an unneeded section of our old driveway with sod. He provided samples of paver stones to assist us in choosing the best fit for our house and even created computer-generated renderings, depicting our house and driveway with the selected pavers installed (see photo). The job began about a month after we signed the contract. The crew of 5 men, led by Hector, worked tirelessly over a period of 6.5 days, in heat and occasional (light) rain, leading to a very attractive outcome. Each worker knew exactly what to do, and the team did their job in concert like a well-oiled machine. (See the photos which depict the progress of the project, from start to finish.) We are quite pleased with the outcome; the result is an attractive driveway that has become the envy of my neighbors. I have received many compliments from them in the days following completion. In summary, Pavestone Brick Paving transformed the worn and aged look of our driveway and walkways into an aesthetically appealing complement to our house's facade. Follow up after an expensive and poor installation!! Very hard to get them back out to fix the pavers that have moved!!!

Called and asked for a quote. They asked me to send pictures because they were too busy to come out and meet me at my property. I sent pics. They gave me quote based on their estimate of the total square footage from looking at pics. Their estimate of square footage was way off. Then they asked if I wanted them to come out and give a formal quote after a site visit. I'm sorry but duh. That's the entire reason I called them in the first place - so I said yes, please come out. They never contacted me back. It's okay. I got three other estimates from businesses that came out after first call. read more

Had my driveway and walkway re-sanded about a year ago and it hasn't held up well at all. Cracks started appearing almost immediately and after the first year, it's almost like I didn't do it at all. I had asked Sergio Giovagnoli, the Project Manager, about Polymeric Sand, but he said they don't do that when re-sanding, only on new installs. It might have held up better. He said cracks like this are normal, but it looks like it did when I had the work done in the first place. I think they sub-contract re-sanding to different company which may have also been part of the problem. Either way, thousands of dollars wasted. They have good reviews and the pictures look nice but I'd be worried about how well it holds up over time. I'd recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Long overdue. First start by saying, I think the workers did a wonderful job. But Rick, the owner, is a misogynist. Please look at all his worst reviews--they're mostly from women. Also, the fact that he continues to argue with people even over Yelp is pathetic! The initial work on my patio was wonderful and quality work done by hard-working, great people. They also buried a gutter drain to redirect water under soil in backyard, but it was done right on the border of my neighbor. Unfortunately, soon after my neighbors backyard started flooding after rain falls. We researched and find out that you have to bury gutter drains 5 feet away from neighbors border. When I brought this to Ricks attention, he was really ticked off and all he could say is how much "he saved us on all the work he was doing and we should be thankful" although the result of some work was flooding our neighbors backyard. When I started planning a time for his workers arrive and fix this, he told me a time of later afternoon but that day they came in early at 8AM. I think this was intentionally so I would not be present. I texted him to tell him this was not our agreement, and he snapped at me, disrespected me and told me off. Then, laughably later, when he realized what an a--hole he was, he texted my husband to "apologize" instead of to me! Ha! Again, the patio and sod work was wonderful. But, other places things were not done correctly and when I brought this up to Ricks attention he got very angry, threw tantrums + insulted me. Even the best kind of work done is not worth the time and money, if you have to walk on eggshells while communicating with Rick. I also want to add (as I see this in other reviews) the grouted sand between the stone was washing away, just a few months after installation. I understand this happens overtime, but so quickly!? I brought this up to his attention, and he did have workers come in and redo it, but it didn't take long to wash away again. After, all he could tell me is I need $1000 maintenance to fix it, but I just had a feeling that should not be happening so quickly. read more

I've worked with Pavestone on two jobs. The first was a complete tear down of our existing concrete patio and walkway and installation of brick pavers. Ricky did a great job of walking us through the process, including design with renderings, so that we could see what we were getting. He was very helpful in creating a design that fit our needs and was within our budget. They started the job on time, in concert with some other work we had going on such as installing new window wells and an AC unit. They also finished on time. They cleared all the debris and the patio was ready to use immediately. The second job was to remove the front walkway and install the same type of pavers as we used on the patio. I dealt with Ricky from this company, First project I had was to brick around a firepit. He came out for estimate when he said he would, gave me a fair price, made good suggestions, and work was completed on time. So I used them again recently for all brick cleaning in the yard. He powerwashed, filled in sand, and sealed a whole lotta brick area in both my front and back yard. Most importantly, I was out of town when work was done. Crew showed up when they said they would and completed work without a problem, and without me having to supervise anything. THAT NEVER HAPPENS!!! Called and explained I was interested in have a paver mowing strip installed along my property line. The lady who answered the phone was pleasant and explained there was a substantial wait time and asked if I would be ok with that. I said that was fine. She said she would get me a ballpark figure and put me on hold. When she came back she said they did not install pavers on property lines. Huh? Are you kidding? How could they install a driveway without butting it against a property line (like the street)? Dumbfounded but playing along, I said it could be near but not on the property line. She then said they weren't interested in the job regardless. No explanation. Takeaway-- they will BS you with excuses; I suspect they are only interested in very large jobs. Don't waste your time calling about small or medium sized jobs PARTICULARLY if they are near a property line. Personally I wouldn't call them even for a large job after the BS that they don't work along property lines. If they BS you about one thing, they will BS you about anything. read more

Update: you fixed the broken stair 3 years ago on the third time it collapsed. Your work is faulty that the stair keeps breaking. You wanted $200 for a 5 minute job and you live in my town. Good customer service would have just fixed it. If you did your research properly you will find I give great reviews and in your case not great reviews for all work done on my home. I try to help others get the best person for the job. As far as hanging up.... Once I said oh that is a lot of money to fix the stair that was installed poorly and keeps breaking, you said out of contract so that is it and I said oh I can't afford that and you said fine and hung up on me. Review: Pavestone in Des Plaines We called Pavestone to give us an estimate because our neighbors recommended them from a patio job they had done with them. He was the most expensive of the three estimates we got, but could do the job more quickly. His professional manner was certain and arrogant. We wrote it off to confidence, with a touch of cockiness. We contracted with Pavestone to install pavers on our small front porch and the front walkway. We did our homework and picked our products, and were clear about what we wanted. It was in our contract. We paid a percentage up front to secure the dates and supplies. When they came to do the job at the end of October, they showed up with the wrong color edge-stone. We were told that they couldn't use the color we requested because Unilock no longer made that color. Me: "So you're telling us this now the day you arrive with another product? You couldn't call us months ago to let us know this, so we could choose another color/stone?" Owner of Pavestone: "Well, if we don't do this today, we might not be able to get to till next year, soooo, what do you want me to do?" We discovered once wet the new color stone looked like what we wanted originally. Pavestone recommended they use this new color, and they would come back first thing next spring, when the weather was not cold, and put a seal on it to make the stone darker like what we contracted for. In January and February I got a message form an employee at Pavestone requesting I place a review online for their company. After the second message I called and told the gentleman that a review would come once the job was completed in the spring. May 3 I called Pavestone to schedule the early spring date to add the sealer to our unfinished job. The office worker informed me they wouldn't be able to get to us until sometime in June. On May 6th I called the company owner reminding him of his agreement to come first thing in the spring. He reprimanded me stating that because I didn't review them and didn't call them in Feb. to get on their schedule, I'd now have wait. He said he just left me alone since he hadn't heard from us. Why do I have to chase him around for an error he made. Perhaps his office mate didn't tell him my wife called in Feb and the only thing talked about was a review no offer to put us on a schedule. I explained that we were away in Feb. They couldn't finish the job, anyway in winter so why should we call him them in Feb? His responses, and this IS a Direct Quote, "What...do I close my business down just because you go on vacation?" As a business owner myself, my thinking is this. It would have taken him or one of his guys, literally 30 minutes to do the seal job! 30 minutes to make a customer happy by KEEPING YOUR PROMISE. We wouldn't have had to even be here! He could have easily sent someone out here and just done it. That would have impressed the crap out of us, but no, he chose to make us feel like we somehow wronged him for a mistake he made. That's just bad customer service. Folks, his attitude through this whole process was, pushy & arrogant. I would never recommend them just for that alone. I'm in business myself 30 years, and if I gave my clients half the attitude Pavestone gave us, I'd be OUT of business. Anyway, You asked for our review, Pavestone. read more

A couple of years ago (2018) Pavestone sealed the pave stones and re-sanded the patio which they built two years before that. This year we noticed that there are many areas where the sand/grout is missing between the pavestones. I called Mario, left a message. Called him again today and he answered. I explained that the grout is missing in some areas and asked what can be done about that. He corrected me that it's called "sand" not grout. Ok. He then told me that this is normal and that is what happens: the re-grouting of the patio needs to be done every year or every two years. I expressed my disappointment and regret, I thought we had warranty for things like that. Our understanding is that the pave stones are being supported by the sand/grout and if the grout is missing then the structure is not very stable, is it? The house would collapse if the cement was missing in the bricks after 2 years. Had we known that there is no warranty for the disappearing grout, we would have probably opted for something else because this patio was pretty expensive and re-grouting it every year or every couple of years for $1400 (each time) seems too expensive. We love the look of the patio but if maintenance is this costly we would have done something else. After I stated my disappointment, Mario became irritated. He told me that we need to wash the patio with a broom and soap and that it's our responsibility and that he explained it to us before. I said that I was not aware of the broom and soap. Mario then accused me that I am looking for "free" things and then eventually he was yelling at me that I need to read the contract. He yelled "read the contract!" over and over. I couldn't believe the attitude. I asked him to remove my address from the list of his customers who provide good recommendations. I have nothing good to say about Mario. read more

This project started out as a small one - had a sunken area of the driveway that included both asphalt and pavers as a surround. Both had sunk and resolving it would require both new asphalt and relaying the bricks on a reconstructed base. Working closely with Joe, we identified a number of repairs that were overdue. Further, once we worked with the field team members, we grew more and more confident in their expertise and workmanship. Small driveway repairs grew into replacing a 20+ year old step, resolving defects along the edges due to poor/old approach materials from the initial install, etc. After two days of repairs, power washing, sanding, and sealing - the patio, path and driveway all look like new. He was patient and very responsive. The quote we received was very reasonable. just a few months later, the sand between the paving stones started getting washed away. this left large areas without sand. We called Pavestone back and they were able to refill the sand. not a few months later again, the sand was washed away with the rain. we've decided to either do it ourselves or call another company. I still stand by the addition to the pre-existing patio they did is beautiful, but what is going on with the grouting technique? our old section of patio which came with the house (early 2000s) is still holding up. read more

We can't express enough how happy we are with Pavestone Brick Paving, Inc. It was the end of April, 2018 when we first sent them an email request. We received a call back quickly. We informed them of what we were interested in and the basic size of our job. They gave us a ballpark figure before even making an appointment to come to our home. This is fantastic given it was spring and these guys are super busy. This saved us time if they were way out our our price point and saved them a trip if we weren't interested. We made an appointment for them to come by a few days later. From the moment we first had contact Ricky, it's been nothing but professionalism. He actually sat down with us and educated us on the products that they work with and the process used to get our job done. We were told they couldn't start the job until July. We felt so comfortable with Ricky that the wait wasn't an issue. We even went to the showroom and saw the actual product on display. This way we were sure of the colors and sizes of the pavers. Any time we had a question for Ricky, we shot him a text. He was always quick to respond; we never had to wait for a reply.
