***This is a review for their Meal Prep service…read more Recently I wanted to get some meal prep help to eat a bit healthier this new year and after reviewing several options around town, I settled on True Nosh. We started off with a quick consultation of what I was looking for in terms of meal preferences and possible menu items. Renée was happy to answer my questions and as a registered dietitian on a mission to cut sugar and encourage healthy eating, she was more than happy to help me figure out specific nutritional details. . I'm on week 1 of the one month order I made and it has been super yummy so far. Every meal has been delicious (even the meat-less ones) and there's some creativity from her team as well so it's not just the dishes you see on her website. Others in my household have also tried to eat portions of my meals because it tastes and smells so good. I've loved certain products they've sold over the years like the mixed grain rice and goji berry granola so I was super happy to see those items included as part of the grains, cookies and breakfast parfaits. This was way healthier than some other food delivery options out there.

She started the business desiring to produce foods that could fit the dietary restrictions of others and you could tell she was passionate about her work. It was a very hands-on experience making our own noodles, cooking the food together (there was a group of 6 of us) and her explaining the ingredients. I had so much fun making my own noodles and using the pasta roller and the food was delicious! I already have a few of the True Nosh sauces from a previous visit but I highly recommend coming to browse the products if you're looking for some sauce alternatives with lower sugar and better ingredients!

For a work team-building activity focused on nutrition and wellness, we went to a cooking class…read morehere. We signed up for a class that would teach us vegetarian and gluten-free recipes that are healthy and wouldn't be too difficult to make ourselves. I'm always looking for easy recipes so I was looking forward to taking this class with my colleagues. The space isn't large and our team of 15 people filled the room across two tables. The instructor was very knowledgeable about nutrition (I think she said she was a cook at one point in her life) and explained how each dish is prepared, what the nutrition of each ingredient would provide, and substitutes available for ingredients to fit our dietary needs, e.g. vegetarian. She showed us how each dish was prepared and a tv projected what she was doing at the cutting board or stove so that everyone knew what to do. In teams of 4, we would prepare the ingredients (dice, slice, chop, marinade) and cook them as well. All the ingredients, condiments, and equipment were provided. The instructor came and gave us tips as well. At the end of the class, we got to try what we made, which was great. In that class, we made vegan pad thai without fish sauce. I have to say that without that classic fish sauce, the dish fell flat for me. I would be interested in taking other classes with her in the future, but probably ones that involve meat or seafood!

They also have 'discounts' if you sign up for four classes. Be quick because they fill up fast! Keep checking their site for updates if you are interested in any classes! They run series throughout the year and classes are constantly changing. If you're like me who learns best by doing with a bit of help from others, these classes are a good fit for you. The two classes that I have been to were "Cook Once Eat Healthy All Week (a plant-based intro to batch-cooking)" and "Un-Junk Your Kitchen: Healthier, Cheaper Homemade Staples," both of which have been informative and interactive. Andrea and Ellexis were both knowledgeable and made the classes more than fun. The best part was that got to eat what was demoed or what we made ourselves! I'm looking forward to attending the rest of this series.

The basis of this activity is that you are put into teams and tasked with the difficult and creative job of cooking a appetizer and entrée using a secret ingredient that has to be incorporated in both dishes. They hosted our clients professionally and with care which was much appreciated. The experience can come in at a little bit high of a price however, it has been a very successful event and our clients seemed to love it (which is the main goal!). You have to cook for one hour and have access to the kitchen and ingredients and can talk with some of the students that are there as well. It feels very high pressure and depending how you cook or eat it could be either very creative or a little bit overwhelming but it's all in good fun. After that, the head chef tries out all the dishes and scores everyone. Don't fret, you do not have to only eat your concoctions after the cooking challenge. You are then presented with a three course meal done by the students. One thing I do wish they offered was perhaps a Feedback card (I understand this is difficult for a client event but could be coordinated to the organizer). The dishes we got for good, the portions were a bit small and some of the dishes were a bit over salted in my opinion but overall it was a great meal and event. There is limited parking and just have to register your car with the business beforehand, otherwise be prepared to get towed.

The three dishes that we made were pork baos, dan dan noodles, and wontons with chilli sauce. These were all staple foods that I grew up eating in a Chinese family but it was quite interesting to make them with a western fusion twist. If you don't know how to cook, do not worry because I certainly don't either. Dan, the owner, led our class with his assistant Kait. Both were very helpful, engaging in conversation, and accommodating. Dan did a really good job of explaining the origins of each dish, bringing in his own experiences and life stories with his family which I really appreciate as this added a personal touch. He stresses the use of organic ingredients and often shared with us where to buy these common items. Once you walk in, you store your personal items in the cupboard provided. Then you write your name on an erasable name tag and put your apron on. Everyone is involved in the cooking process, from washing vegetables to chopping garlic and green onions. There was just a right amount of time to cook but also socialize with one another. You can also consume alcohol while cooking. I found that the assistant often prepared most of the meat, so some of the hardest parts of the recipes were already accounted for. The pork bao, for example, only required us to make the bun part but I do not recall preparing the pork or marinating it. Everything tasted delicious and looked so colourful that the plating easily looked like restaurant quality, even if you just tossed them all together on a dish. We used a lot of garlic though so a lot of us still came to work with garlic breath the next day! Still, I think my favourite dish must have been the dan dan noodles because of the peanut sauce. Feeling very lucky to have tried my first cooking class through work and hope to be back another time to cook another cuisine!
