Had a great conversation with the manager on the phone to book our stay. The motel is in a great location at the top of a peak along the Mohawk Trail. Really quiet and peaceful. Cool, even in the summer without the need for A/C. Huge lawn out front great for playing or a picnic or stargazing. Loved the dark sky away from urban centers. We brought a telescope along with us and I was able to show my kids a close up view of the moon and Jupiter through the clean and dry mountaintop air. The rooms were clean and the furniture was practically new. The pillows and beds were soft and comfy. My family loved the breakfast pastry spread: donuts, coffee, bagels, muffins, etc. Check-in / check-out was effortless. Nothing to complain about!

The continental breakfast exceeded our expectations with an array of fresh cut fruit, yogurt, homemade muffins and an assortment of breads and English muffins. His attention to detail and eye for aesthetics have made this motel a safe bet for a pleasurable and comfortable stay. Although our room was very small, it was in immaculate condition and had everything we needed, including a very comfortable king-size bed, small refrigerator, 40" television, and a tiny but exceptionally clean bathroom. We stayed here while attending a concert at Tanglewood, which was an easy 20-minute drive down the same road as Berkshire Lake Lodge. The motel is also very close to the Massachusetts Turnpike, so there is some traffic noise, but it wasn't particularly loud and did not disturb our sleep. The motel sits right beside a scenic lake, and guests have complimentary access to kayaks, a fire pit, and a gas barbecue grill. I really couldn't have expected more from this unpretentious, independently owned motel. Pete has done a wonderful job transforming the property into a clean, comfortable, and welcoming place to stay. I would happily stay here again!

This year they are going to be rebuilding the dam at the end of the lake, so that should be worth exploring next year. Last year, we learned how to sail, which was a real treat. We were in the correct season to get to be able to pick fresh wild blueberries from our kayaks!! We made a great syrup with them, and had it over ice cream...yummmm. ====================================================== In response to the person that has trouble with stairs: I think all the cabins have some amount of stairs, the white one has the fewest (maybe one?). In order to get down to the lake, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE ANY STAIRS. My mother-in-law has bad hips, and she doesn't use the stairs. All you have to do is either go around the house to the right, or walk all the way to the left in front of the green cabin, and there are NO STAIRS. The lawn is very gradually sloped on both of those paths. You can even get to the lake by walking directly in front of their porch...without stairs. Look at picture number two (that I took years ago), there are NO STAIRS under the flag on the left OR near the small red tree on on the right. The stairs mentioned are directly in the center of the picture under the arch.
