I have been at this school for going on 3 years now. The teacher is excellent and has been doing martial arts for a very long time. He brings some levity into serious training. You feel very worked out after a class, but you enjoy the class as you take it. Weapons training, forms, application. The school offers a great deal and the teacher is very knowledgeable and approachable when teaching or even just popping by the school for extra practice. If you are expecting a hardcore place that has you punching bags until your knuckles bleed, this isn't the place for you. If you are expecting a place that is 'disney-ified' then this also isnt the place for you. If you want a good teacher, with a sound foundation of skills and also has a knack for making classes both informative and enjoyable, then this place will definitely be for you. read more

I searched a long time for somewhere to learn and practice Tai Chi and found 9 Dragons King Fu. They teach traditional Shao Lin, Wu Dang and Hong Jia Kung Fu. I was excited that they also offer Tai Chi classes. Tai Chi is low-impact but builds strength and balance and it looks cool too. I wanted something that challenged me while getting a good workout. Mrs. Kaneen is a great instructor. She has such a positive attitude and makes sure to vary the training from time to time so it doesn't get boring. She teaches Yang style, Chen style Tai Chi forms, sometimes self defense, mixes in some health and wellness tips, and even some weapons training. The way she teaches you makes everything seem so easy, from your hand movement, foot work to breathing techniques. The small class size is perfect. Everyone gets her personal attention. I've been attending 9 Dragons for Tai Chi for almost 5 years now, and it is really one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. It's actually difficult to form into words how important it is to me. A large part of its appeal is the supportive, welcoming and positive community within the school. Simu Tamara Kaneen leads the Tai Chi classes and moves with absolute grace and artistry. Even in the early days when I was laughably uncoordinated - I knew I craved THAT and resolved to continue. She intuitively knows how to break down movements in a way that resonates and makes sense for each individual. While she is serious and dedicated to the martial arts, she peppers her classes with humor as well. She has become an invaluable mentor to me and to others. I think the most surprising part has been all the things I have learned that I was not expecting - for instance, the ability to slow down and devote myself to something that blossoms over a lifetime. As someone who has a tendency to want to learn fast so I can move onto the next shiny thing, this has been a wonderful gift. It is also a lesson in taking oneself less seriously - it feels good to laugh while you try to make your upper/lower body work in tandem and have mixed results initially. But, it's good for the brain! I think the main takeaway is that everyone will find different benefits, but it is well worth discovering how your mind, body, and spirit matures through regular practice and class attendance. I've been training at 9 dragons for, nearly, 3 years now. Best martial arts school I've found in a decade! I've worked with all the instructors and they are waaaaay above average and are able to customise workouts for people of all abilities! Remember, not everyone starts in peak condition. Everything is designed to help everyone reach their goals. Every instructor has to be a certified instructor and that is 18 months of training above everything else. And if you have kids? Awesome, there are kids classes too. Multiple instructors in each class and the parents get to watch class and see the little ones grow! Again, A+ school! I went in for a trial because I was interested in signing up for Tai Chi classes. I was very excited after I spoke to, I believe the owner who was very nice over the phone and invited me in for a trial with the Tai Chi instructor. When I arrived the instructor was not friendly at all, but that was fine. I explained that I was there for a trial as I was interested in signing up for Tai Chi classes. She was very rude and asked me if I had ever taken Martial Arts. I was excited to answer that I had although it was Karate, not Tai Chi. She asked what style. I answered and she basically called me a liar and said there was no such style. I said, "Ok well, I'm from another state and they do a lot of fusion styles, so I don't know what to tell you". I snapped back a bit because her tone was aggressive and argumentative the entire exchange. She then agreed that could be the case, but by then, everyone was very quiet and staring at the ground because it was uncomfortable how rude she was towards me. A few people after the exchange went out of their way to be friendly because they witnessed her bite my head off. I did stay for the trial session and she was ok during class instruction but it was such an uncomfortable and unwelcoming meeting with her (Tamara) that I chose to not give my business there. read more
