Anyone who rates this restaurant lower than 5 stars is seriously trippin. I cannot begin to express…read morehow beautiful our meal was- there was so much attention to every aspect of the menu. I suggest having reservations, because we called the day before and they were booked for the next two days. Thankfully, they slid us in on a cancellation. There is love here. Our server, Lucy, was super attentive and lovely. She definitely went the extra mile. The chef, Matt, was cooking for the entire restaurant with the aid of only one sous chef and the place was packed. Still, our food came out in a timely manner and it was all cooked to perfection. Quite a feat, given there were people at literally every table. It's not quaint in capacity, either. I was so impressed. As for the food- everything was phenomenal. We ordered a bottle of the Bordeaux, the charcuterie, the beet salad, the petite filet, the mushroom ragu, the creme brûlée and the home made peanut butter ice cream. It was a lot but as we are serious food lovers and I love to cook, we wanted to try it all. Although the menu itself wasn't visionary (not sure there is room for that in SD) the execution was. The filet melted like butter but had an extraordinary crust. Perfectly seasoned. I ate every bite. The creme brûlée is my go to dish- it's so simple but you can tell a lot from how it's executed. The custard was phenomenal and the crust was the perfect thickness, shattered just the right way with q wack of the spoon. The house made peanut butter ice cream... jeez. My husband ordered it. Not something I would have chosen but good lord, I ate the whole thing. I was in pain, but it was some of the best ice cream I've ever had in my life. People on Yelp complaining about seating or pricing are out of touch. This is a very small crew running the restaurant. The chef is an artist and he is killing it. (He is even the one who returned my reservation phone call!) You read the list of what we ordered- it was an insane amount of food PLUS a bottle of old world wine- and if I hadn't tipped so so exuberantly we would have been out of there for under 200 bucks. WE DONT DESERVE YOU, JUNIPER! We are thankful for such an amazing, elevated, romantic date night. Honestly worth going to Rapid City for. Please do yourself a favor, check it out and tip them well. These guys are pulling off something remarkable.

They do need to update the online menu. Filet listed online for $40.75 was $55. Date listed $6.75 were $10. Filet Mignon w/veal Demi glaze was awesome, you could cut it with a butter knife. I didn't like the small potato bites. Should have mashed potatoes $55 Bison ravioli was good (not made in house) but the sauce was on the salty side. Medjool dates filled with blue cheese were great $10. $10 is too expensive for these though. Overall a great place for a relaxing dinner. Or just have wine and appetizers.

Apparently, they don't serve actual wedges because it causes too much waste. The owner agreed they need to change the name of the salad. My beet salad was tasty. Now after waiting 50 minutes with only one other couple in the restaurant, our entrees were served. They should have some games to play at the table for the long wait times. We were actually planning to order dessert but ran out of time. My salmon was cooked very well and tasted fresh. My husband's vegetable lasagna was saved by the mushroom gravy otherwise it lacked flavor.

I ordered a grilled chicken salad with cranberries and almonds. The chicken was hot however it came out too quickly. Like reheated chicken breast which was rubbery. The Blue cheese dressing was nice and thick with chucks of blue cheese. My husband order the BLT which he enjoyed. He ordered sweet potato waffle fries which was an up charge. They were over cooked and not plentiful. The best part of lunch was the dessert. The cheese cake was creamy and fresh.

I'd say half Ranch & half Jam was a good combo. Bison Ribeye medium - 5/5 absolutely flavorful & cooked to perfection. If I only ordered this, minus the server & sides, I'd say #1 they'd get 5/5 stars. Best Ever Bison Ribeye! Top Sirloin medium - 2/5 hardly any flavor except BP, below average, cooked more medium rare, which I don't mind, except it was tough. Outback has a better steak by far! Side Salad - 5/5 fresh, crisp & shockingly a good variety of dressings. I had the Spicy Garlic Honey. Not really spicy, but very sweet. Mango Vinegarette was good w/ Blue Cheese mixed. Sides: Baked Potato - 2.7/5 totally a Wendy's drive-thru baked potato w/ a squeezeable to-go tube of sour cream. Bread Sticks - 2/5 dry & obviously is not the common dinner roll for steaks. On the menu they serve Hawaiian Rolls so not sure why steaks come w/ breadsticks... Coleslaw - 1/5 horrible. The presentation looked like it was someone else's leftovers & the slaw is all vinegar, no mayo or substance. Overall, our server (maybe Amber) was a zero. She was rude, didn't look at us as she asked if we needed anything more just at the wall towards the bathroom. Did not bring share plates for our app. She only looked at us when she brought the check.

Although the space is cozy, it offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with the outdoor area providing some great views. We visited with a group of seven, and despite the restaurant being busy, our order was taken quickly. The service was excellent--our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure everyone in our group was well taken care of throughout our visit. After placing our orders, we grabbed our drinks from the fountain and settled in to enjoy lunch. One highlight that deserves special mention is their house-made root beer. If you're a root beer fan, you're in for a treat. My brother Luis absolutely loved it and couldn't stop talking about how good it was. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and full of interesting items available for purchase. The food was equally impressive. The cheese curds and jalapeño poppers were delicious appetizers, and the burger was cooked perfectly. The home fries tasted fresh and homemade, adding a nice touch to the meal. One thing to note is that the restaurant does not have its own restroom. If needed, you'll have to use the public restroom located nearby along the same strip. However, this was only a minor inconvenience and did not take away from our overall experience. What stood out most was the son of the ownership team, who was working the floor during our visit. He was approachable, professional, and genuinely cared about providing great service to every customer who walked through the door. Overall, our visit was quick, enjoyable, and memorable. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Halley's West for a buffalo burger and a glass of their homemade root beer. It's a wonderful local spot with great food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. On to the next adventure--and don't forget to tip your servers!
